Book Description
Following the huge success of previous editions, Electrophysiological Testing 4th edition is the must-have resource for students, residents, cardiology fellows, primary care physicians, cardiologists, nurses, and technicians because it:clarifies the role of electrophysiology in the evaluation of cardiac arrhythmiasdiscusses advances in therapeutic electrophysiology keeping you completely up to dateprovides clear summaries of complex topicsis written in a user-friendly and understandable writing style to make the information easy to digest and recallincludes an entirely new chapter on the key field of Cardiac ResynchronisationReviews of previous edition:"Many times I have found that EP literature is very tied to research results and bogs down the primary topic and makes it difficult to understand. This book explains EP in plain English! I think it is in a class by itself. EP Technician, Galichia Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS, USAIt gives a good understanding of EP without getting too technical and complex in the explanations. It accomplishes a major task of "demystifying " the field of EP. It not only addresses the needs of non technical EP Personnel, but also provides a precise overview of EP for general review. Like Clift's Notes in Shakespeare class.......2007-09-09
For an electrophysiologist in training this is like "Clift's Notes" in Shakespeare class; everyone has it, everyone has read it, but nobody admits to it!
For any cardiology fellow interested in EP fellowship, or who wants to get the most out of an EP rotation, buy this book and read it over the weekend. THEN buy Zipes or Josephson and quote from one of them.
I recommend this as a starting point for those interested in EP fellowship, or as a good overview for those who are affiliated with EP and want a better understanding.
I only give it 4 of 5 stars, because the author occasionally gets opinionated, but at least his humor is refreshing.
Handbook of Cardiac EP by Murgatroyd.......2003-02-12
By far the best EP book written in my opionion. If you're a layperson to EP and trying to get a handle on what the EP is doing and how we all fit into the puzzle, this is the book for you. Great illustrations, tracings, and easy explanations adjacent to the pictures for better learning.
Electrophysiologic Testing.......2003-02-12
Difficult and dry reading for the layperson. The Handbook of Cardiac EP by Murgatroyd is the best EP book I have seen yet. It has wonderful illustrations matched with tracings and easy reading for people other than the EP doctor.
Wonderful EP book.......2002-10-16
I used this book during a month of electrophysiology during my PGY-1 year. It's a wonderful introduction, and I highly recommend it. Fogoros' prose is very readable.
Great Reference.......2000-05-24
Great reference to those just learning EP or who are new to the field. We used it for training of nursing staff in EP and for general cardiology fellows. The book is easy to read and has done an excellent job of making some of the more difficult concepts understandable.

Book Description
In the 25 years since From Neuron to Brain was first published, the authors' aim has remained constantto describe how nerve cells go about their business of transmitting signals, how the signals are put together, and how, out of this integration, higher functions emerge. The new Fourth Edition, while maintaining this focus, has been completely reformatted and updated.
The emphasis, as before, is on experiments, and on the way they are carried out. Using a narrative approach, the authors follow a line from the original inception of a new idea to an account of research being done today. The wealth of new facts, techniques, and concepts, however, presented a challenge in keeping the book to a manageable size. Inevitably, the authors have had to delete descriptions of certain classical experiments.
Largely in response to readers' comments, elements of format and presentation have been changed for this new editionmore headings have been introduced, the paragraphs are shorter, and the illustrations, now in full color, have been clarified. As in previous editions, references are cited throughout the text, and appendices are provided to help readers unfamiliar with the nervous system deal with essential facts and definitions.
Intended for use in upper-level undergraduate, graduate, psychology, and medical school Neuroscience courses, From Neuron to Brain will be of interest to anyone, with or without a specialized background in biological sciences, who is curious about the workings of the nervous system. It presents a readable and coherent account of how cellular and molecular approaches can provide insights into the workings of the brain.

Condition of new book from Amazon is not new........2007-09-11
I realize that Amazon uses different shippers and stuff but I would not recommend buying this book from Amazon b/c, first of all, it took 6 days for it to ship to me when I have 2 day shipping and because I paid for a new one(direct from Amazon) and the copy I was shipped already had scratches and water damage on the inside pages although it was wrapped in clear plastic and supposedly new. This is not the first time where things like this have happened but I think this will be the last time. I am canceling my 2 day shipping and have decided to use other sources for my textbook and other book needs after my vouchers are used up.
Excellent Book for Neuroscience.......2006-04-01
Neuroscience is generally considered a very dry area of research where people do research for years together to discover some meager facts. Still, even to a person who is averse to Neuroscience, this book might seem appealing. This speaks about the lucid, simple way of explanation in this book. This book is well written and explains the basics of Neuroscience better than any other giant books in market. Buy this book irrespective of your discipline to know the intricacies of Human Brain and have a pleasant reading.
A great introductory book on neuroscience.......2005-08-12
I am a physics graduate student who happen to become interested in neuroscience. I had been searching for an introductory book when I stumbled upon this one. Although I am only half-way through the book right now, I could already tell that it is exactly what a newcomer to this field would need. With the terminology clearly defined, the book gives a very concise, clear, and logic description on the fundamentals. It further keeps one's interest high by relating the fundamental knowledges to everyday experiences. What I like most about this book is that it does not shy away from pointing out what is not yet known. With the last chapter devoted to "open questions", it presents the real questions to be answered. This book is really perfect. Highly recommended.
Clear, concise, helpful text for a beginning grad student!.......2004-10-19
I am a first year graduate student "accidentally" entering the field of neuroscience. I needed a basic text to help me "catch up". This book has been wonderful! The authors' have a great writing style- easy to read. More importantly, the authors are expert at choosing and presenting important, basic aspects of neurobiology to inexperienced neuroscientists without bogging the reader down with unnecessary and confusing detail. In particular, the authors thoroughly discuss ion channels and their role in neuronal communication, presenting electrophysiology as a valuable tool for studying these channels. This text was "just right" for me. However, if you are an advanced "neuroscientist", this text might be a bit on the "simple" side.
Neurophysiology (History & Evolution).......2004-06-11
This book is similar in format and style to Principles of Neural Science by Kandel, Schwartz, & Jessell. Nicholls book is half the length of Kandel's, yet just as good. Colored drawings & diagrams are laced throughout the text. It is strongest in auditory physiology, synaptic transmission, vision physiology, & neural development. Clear graphs and line-drawings of intracellular and extracellular recordings abound. Give this book its chance. It should be on the reading list for Medical & Graduate School.
Book Description
Brimming with more than more than 1700 references, this reader-friendly and extensively revised Fourth Edition will prove invaluable to instructors and students alike-providing a unified approach to the anatomical, physiological, and perceptual aspects of audition with updated chapters on the latest developments in the field.
Customer Reviews:
Good but unwieldy.......2006-07-15
I am a sound engineer (not paramedic) and I found that book (its most part) covers topics of my interest, broad and deep enough, but I must admit some unwieldy style on explaining things there. (Just for the opposite example (on similar subject) I can point out to Juan G. Roederer's book "The Physics and Psychophysics of Music. An Introduction", more witty or easy to understand.)
Customer Reviews:
Well Rounded Book.......2006-11-08
This book is excellent. It's easy to read but still completely thorough and accurate. The pictures are great visuals as well. I kept this book after I finished nursing school and I continue to reference it. I had a friend taking an Anatomy class. Her professor was a bore and they were using a mediocre book. I recommended this one, she got it and it proved quite useful to her. Great book!
super help.......2005-12-10
very helpful ,and i specialy recommend for a student with ESL.Very clear and anderstendable text.Iportant that book covers the subject.
Thanks so much!.......2005-09-29
I appreciate the promptness of delivery, the good condition it arrived in, and the privilege of working with this company. You will be getting my business in the future.
Very good book.......2003-03-27
I used this book as a reference for my anatomy and physiology class in college and found it be right on target. I like the way the author explains these sometimes hard to understand topics. However, the book was not boring. If you want to really get an "A" buy the following books which are sold on amazon:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Vol 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and
Vol 2 (ISBN: 0971999627). These books focus on the type of questions that A and P teachers ask on college exams. My study group and I used this and it helped us all get excellent grades.
It's a great reference book........2001-01-21
I enjoyed this book very much, and I placed it on my reference book shelf. It provided me with enough important information for my studies. It is clear, concise, and eloquent. It provides the reader with excellent visual illustrations, in addition to a thorough and necessary information about the human anatomy and physiology all in plain english.

Gastrointestinal Physiology: Mosby Physiology Monograph Series (Mosby's Physiology Monograph)
ASIN: 0120883945 |
Book Description
FROM THE PREFACE:
The original purpose of the First Edition of
Physiology of the Gastrointestinal Tractto collect in one set of volumes the most current and comprehensive knowledge in our fieldwas also the driving force for the Fourth Edition. The explosion of information at the cellular level, made possible in part by the continued emergence of powerful molecular and cellular techniques, has resulted in a greater degree of revision than that of any other edition. The first section, now titled "Basic Cell Physiology and Growth of the Gl Tract" contains numerous new chapters on topics such as transcriptional regulation, signaling networks in development, apoptosis, and mechanisms in malignancies. Most of the chapters in this section were edited by Juanita L. Merchant. Section II has been renamed "Neural Gastroenterology and Motility" and has been expanded from seven chapters with rather classic titles to more than twenty chapters encompassing not only the movement of the various parts of the digestive tract but also cell physiology, neural regulation, stress, and the regulation of food intake. Almost all of the chapters were recruited and edited by Jackie D. Wood. The third section is entirely new and contains chapters on "Immunology and Inflammation" which were edited by Kim E. Barrett. The fourth section on the "Physiology of Secretion" consists of chapters with familiar titles, but with completely updated information to reflect the advances in our understanding of the cellular processes involved in secretion. The last section on "Digestion and Absorption" contains new chapters on the intestinal barrier, protein sorting and ion channels along with those focusing on the uptake of specific nutrients. These chapters were recruited and edited by Hamid M. Said and Fayez K. Ghishan.
· Collected in one set - the most current and comprehensive coverage of gastrointestinal physiology
· Information presented in a style that is both readable and understandable
· Valuable to the specialized researcher, the clinical gastroenterologist, the teacher, and the student
· Features an entirely new section on Immunology and Inflammation
· Each section edited by the preeminent scientist in the field
Book Description
This book covers the basics of human biology from three integrated perspectives: health, homeostasis, and the environment.
Customer Reviews:
Environmentalism propaganda masquerading as human biology........2005-07-11
I am very interested in learning about human biology and ordered this book on this site. Boy!, was I disappointed! This book is more intent on propagating the global warming myth and other Chicken-Little-the-sky-is-falling-hysteria. There is not very much on simply human biology.
This book is going straight to the trash. It's a total waste of my money.
Interesting note: The author lives in Evergreen, CO and works at Denver University. Evergreen is in the mountains west of Denver. DU is in southeast Denver - a long commute - something like 30 miles. If the author is really concerned about global warming, then why doesn't he live closer to work?
