Misleading Offer.......2007-09-10
Amazon offers this study guide along with the text book as a package deal. However, the text book is the 3rd edition and the study guide is the 2nd edition, rendering it pretty much useless to my daughter. Please review this closer than my daughter did! I beleive that this is an Amazon issue more so than the fault of the publisher.
Be Cautious of Edition.......2007-09-03
I purchased this study guide to go with the Thrid Edition of the textbook, as shown with the text book. when i recieved it, i realized that it is the second edtion and is not compatable with the third edition. just be careful of what edition you need it for.
I wonder why this was even published.......2006-09-29
This has got to be the worst solution manual I've encountered. My edition is copyrighted in 2004, and it still seems like it is a very rough draft. Although some of the solutions come out to be quite clear, for every one of those there is at least one that either solves the problem with unnecessary complexity or is downright wrong. This causes a lot of confusion and self-doubt for the student. Errors of this type and frequency are tolerable if they come from one's mentor, but when the solution manual comes from a publisher with such reknown as McGraw-Hill, I would expect it to be thoroughly edited and proofread. I would definitely not recommend this item unless they have a revised edition published. In the meantime, one would be much better off asking his or her professor or TA for the solutions, and discussing with them as necessary.
Wanna get an A in Genetics?.......2001-01-27
Although this solution guide has a few mistakes, it helped me tremendously in Genetics. I got an A only because I had the answer and explanation to EVERY question in the textbook. It gave me a clear understanding of the basic concepts and it had plenty of diagrams. Barely anyone in my class had the solutions manual, so I felt like I had an advantage over everybody...and I found out I was right when I got my report card! :-)

Study guide was a great aid.......2005-02-06
This study guide helped me to learn some difficult concepts like Genetics by Mendal, Biotechnology and the Genetics of Viruses and Prokaryotes. The book made learning a little more fun especially when my college biology lectures are quite boring. I do like biology but this book made it easier learning it. I was recommended the following from one of my classmates and it was very significant in helping me get very good grades. The book is called "The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations," (Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3) by Patrick Leonardi. These 3 volumes were like no other because they showed me the style of question to expect on my college exams.
Book is ok, r you willing to spend the time 2 learn details?.......2004-09-05
Very similar to other biology books, there will not be a feature in this book that will make it stand-up from the other ones. In despite of that, I really recommend the website that accompanies this book. The animations are great to understand biological concepts such as PCR, operons, etc.
Everything is in great detail (too much detail for my taste)... the organization could have been better to make the students understand better. Sometimes I feel it provides so many details that the big picture is lost! I think that the cellular respiration chapter organization was very confusing (it kept going from glycolisis to kreb's cycle back and forth.) It will be somewhat hard if you want to use this book to learn biology independently.

Book Description
Work more effectively and gauge your progress along the way! This
Study Guide is designed to accompany Karp’s Cell & Molecular Biology: Concepts & Experiments, 4
th Edition. This helpful and effective workbook provides ample resources to aid student learning. Activities include chapter outlines, review questions, and key illustrations.
Now fully updated and revised, the new
Fourth Edition of
Cell and Molecular Biology: Concepts and Experiments not only offers you and your students all of the latest research, it also gives students the tools they need to understand the science behind cell biology and ultimately succeed in your course. Karp explores core concepts in considerable depth, and presents experimental detail when it helps to explain and reinforce the concept being explained. This edition also continues to offer an exceedingly clear presentation and excellent art program, both of which have received high praise in prior editions.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent introductory book.......2007-07-19
I've come to appreciate this book more and more over its succeeding editions. It has now replaced both the Alberts et al. and the Lodish et al. books (both nevertheless excellent) as my favorite textbook on cell and molecular biology.
It is concise, covers a very large range of subjects and has very clear graphics. I think it is better balanced than many of its competitors in the sense that the reader never gets the impression that the author sacrificed certain subjects to give more room to his favorite ones. On many occasions, I was surprised to find things in here that I couldn't find in the bigger (and more "fundamental") Alberts and Lodish.
It references papers and review articles that are very current, and is very up to date on its content.
I think Gerald Karp is doing a very good job with each new iteration of this book and I will recommend it to my students.
Excellent book!!.......2006-01-09
This is one of the most complete and easy-to-read book ever! I have studied with Gerald Karp books since I was an undergraduate student (Biochemistry, and Karp book was always by my side, very useful). This book explain the cellular metabolism, structures (cytoskeleton, microtubules, filaments, genes, relations between genes and proteins, DNA repair, cell cycle, cell signalling, lot of concepts that are not easy to understand at first, Karp does it very simple. You will love this book. I can strongly recommend it. Another excellent book I can recommend is Molecular Biology of the CELL by Bruce Alberts....is excellent! and before you take an exam, I will suggest the "Outline of Molecular and Cell Biology" by the Schaum's series. Well, that's it for now, I wish you the best in your career (I have been there, I know how hard it can be and choose the proper books!) and always remember, keep working and practicing, because practice make the Master!! :)

Great job.......2005-09-26
The book was in great condition. Seller let me know that the book was in the mail which was nice.
Concise story of cell biology.......2002-01-04
Another introductory book in the biology of the cell. I would say that the book is divided into mainly two sections, Cell structure and DANA, DANA replications etc. Second part takes almost two thirds of the book. I would prefer to read other Gene books when it comes to that point but for the cell structure, it is not bad. Some colored pictures, computer animations makes it easy to visualize things. Sections called "experimental pathways" scattered throughout the text takes you into current issues related to the subject. They are also quite sophisticated issues rather than practical problems. I think this book requires considerable guidance when read alone. I could not call this book as self sufficient or easy to read one compared to books by Alberts or Baltimore.
He's got it all here in a nutshell.......2000-12-07
All biology, biochemistry, and premed students will find this text an indispensible source of information for anything there is to know about cells. This is one text that can't possibly be read and fully understood overnight; just take a little bit at a time at any convenient moment and it will all come together in your mind before you know it!

It's ok.......2006-02-19
It's an okay book. I needed it for a class. There are several mistakes on the diagrams (our professor noted which ones).
Lots of typos and missing info........2006-01-07
Good study guide when the answers were in the back. Sometimes the answers were off by one or non existent. If you can get past that, it does help, but jeez don't they employ a proofreader? For thirty bucks, I was kind of disappointed. The textbook is great.
Wonderfully Informative Book!!!.......2005-12-12
WOW! I love this book. Every time I read part of it I learn so much stuff that I never knew before. It is fairly advanced information but it is written in a very understandable way. I am in high school and I like it because it teaches in the same format as my school's biology text books. I use this book because I like to read about this stuff. It is so facinating. If you are in a high school biology class, read this and you will be light years ahead of every one else!
Great book for teachers and students.......2005-09-17
This text explains some very complex information in a very reader-friendly way. The photos, charts and practical examples of how microbiology impacts everyone's life make it very readable. I would recommend it for teachers and students!
Micro Made Easy.......2005-09-14
This is one of the best text books I have ever used. The information is clear, concise, and interesting. It gives examples throughout the book of how microbiology is being used now to help us.

kid review format because of privacy issues.......2007-01-21
This book is for the third edition, not the forth in case anyone couldn't tell. Although my class is using the 4th ed I still found this study guide to be quite relevant to the material of the text.
