Customer Reviews:
Not pleased.......2007-09-09
I am not happy to report that we never received the book we ordered. We ordered the book on August 4, 2007 and told shipment would arrive by August 24th. On August 24th, we wrote in that we had not received the book. We never received a response from Amazon. On August 26th a duplicate of the book had to be purchased from the University Bookstore as the school term had begun and we were still without the needed book. The only positive thing I can say is that after submitting a claim on the purchased book, our money was promptly returned.
Good Work.......2005-09-12
I was pleased with the arrival time of this book and the quality of material that arrived. Thanks

Introduction to Microbiology: A Case-History Study Approach (with CD-ROM and InfoTrac®)
ASIN: 0072857994 |
Book Description
The laboratory exercises in this manual are coordinated with Human Biology, a text that has two primary functions: 1) to understand how the human body works and 2) to understand the relationship of humans to other living things in the biosphere. This laboratory manual can be adapted to a variety of course orientations and designs. There are a sufficient number of laboratories to permit a choice of activities over the length of the course. Many activities may be performed as demonstrations rather than as student activities, thereby shortening the time required to cover a particular concept.

Customer Reviews:
Great reference for my gross anatomy class.......2003-06-27
I liked this book because it make anatomy much easier to retain because of the detailed pictures showing the structures of the body. I'm a visual learner and found this book to be very good in showing me the difference in location between various ligaments and bones etc. I also used the following which is also available on amazon:
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
isbn: 0971999600
This study guide helped me with the type of questions encountered in on my medical gross anatomy tests in med school. I highly recommend both books

Unprofessional & practically useless, even after 5 editions.......2002-09-07
Two weeks into the semester and many instructors (like me) are wondering, why was the 5th edition of this book released and recommended for text-use in classrooms? Everybody finds it frustrating, not just instructors, but the Anatomy-Physiology majors, not to mention the health-care and gen ed students. As one colleague put it, a serious disservice has been rendered to Martini. Sadly, as an author and pedagogue, Meehan seems to be conspiculously lacking in professional ability -- if not confidence. Why is there is such disregard for FOCUS?
Disorganized and narrow with too many inaccuracies.......2002-09-06
This book is a disappointment. The clinical comments are unclear and narrow. The format is disorganized and inflexible. The cross references are inaccurate. It is not an effective manual for lab use, nor does it cover the fundamentals of physiology adequately. Look elsewhere.

Book Description
Award-winning author Elaine N. Marieb brings her unique understanding of students' needs to Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology, Sixth Edition. The hallmarks of this popular text, which has introduced countless allied health students to the structure and function of the human body, are a clear and friendly writing style, just the right level of detail, and features that emphasize the relevance of A&P to students' lives and careers. The author uses numerous analogies to clarify concepts, and consistently defines key terms to assist students who may have little or no background in science. The Sixth Edition includes clearer, crisper art to help students better visualize the human body. In addition, a greater career orientation assists students in understanding and remembering information vital to making a successful transition to their professional lives.
Customer Reviews:
Made an A in A&P.......2007-08-13
I think my instructor had a lot to do with it, as well as some changes in study habits since I went to college the first time (2.68). But this book definitely helped. I had a 96 average in class. It's not an easy read, nor is something to try to do without some class notes, but I thought it was clear and informative.
Human Anatomy.......2007-07-25
This book was purchased for a high-school course.
Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book
properly. I presume that it is good because the
school chose it.
Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology 8th edition.......2007-01-21
This book was necessary for my class. Its good, except I can't get the disk to work.
good condition-- a bit long for delivery.......2006-11-04
the delivery was a bit slow but the book was in perfect condition.
Nice and Well Organized Book. .......2005-08-10
I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy.
The diagrams are clearly listed, but of course I've seen a few errors. The information is just so much. Unless you are crazy about this, I doubt you'll remember much without reviewing it over and over continuously on a weekly if not daily bases. Almost each part in the diagram is listed out on the same page or a few pages back and forth to give the reader a more precise knowledge if the reader intends to know more of what the diagram/photo represents part for part.
The information is simply mind blowing and pretty exhausting to remember. Most readers of this and other anatomy/medical/etc related books would sooner or later ask themselves "who the heck would make up all these silly names and expect us to memorize it?!" The information is a little too compact for me and this is the only problem I have with this book, the simple fact that its a lot to comprehend and doesn't seem very intended in my Physiology and Anatomy basics class. Like always, mix other text books with this one if you intend to get everything out of this subject. No one book is perfect. Otherwise, its a decent book overall.

Book Description
This laboratory manual is best known for its ability to help students develop critical and creative reasoning skills in investigating science. Dr. Mader provides step-by-step procedures and hands-on activities to help students learn the concepts of biology. This manual covers the entire field of general biology.
This manual is color customizable so that instructors can build a manual to fit the way they teach their course.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Condition/More than I expected.......2002-10-08
The Lab Manual I purchase "used condition, some writing". Was in very good condition. Only 2-5 pages were written on and the remainder of the Manual was perfect. Shipping was in one weeks time with a guarentee, and option to send back if I wasn't satisfied. The Lab Manual met my need. *And much cheaper than buying the Manual from school.
Good in many ways, but contains errors.......2002-08-29
While this book was helpful in my AP Biology class, we spent many periods debating over how to interpret certain diagrams, only to find out that the reason it was so hard to understand was because the diagram itself was badly drawn. Some are more complicated or more simple than they need to be, one or two are just wrong. However, I highly recommend this book to anyone who learns well by the written word rather than by pictures.

By emphasizing human osteology, forensic anthropology, primates, human evolution, and genetics, this lab manual provides students with hands-on lab assignments to help make the concepts of physical anthropology more clear. It contains short-answer questions, identification problems, and observation exercises. The France LAB MANUAL provides a wealth of solid information that is invaluable in supporting the labs that accompany Physical Anthropology courses.
Customer Reviews:
Good Book.......2007-07-06
Needed it for my Physical Anthropology class, pretty good but diagrams too small, but otherwise pretty good.
confusing.......2007-05-22
As a teaching assistant using the new edition of the lab manual, my students and I continualy ran into problems with this addition. Not only is it full of typos (eg. labeling A. africanus as A. robustus), but it is also confusing in the types of questions asked. Plus, the chapters themselves are arranged differently and lack in detail.
An anthropology student's nightmare.......2005-03-22
My professor has chosen to use this lab book for her "Introductory Biological Anthropology" course. On average, my classmates and I spend around four or five hours hunting for answers hidden within. The common theory we have is that somewhere there is a textbook that might accompany it. The diagrams are not very helpful - tiny black and white pictures that we are supposed to compare in size, shape, etc. The questions are very vague - before I started to type this review, I was using google to try to find some sort of answers for my lab before meeting with almost half of my class to go over what we've each individually found. At the end of term, I am definately having a book burning party for this manual!
ONLY GAME IN TOWN.......2003-12-20
I've used this manual for my physical anthropology classes since the 3rd edition, and there has been some improvement. It's the only game in town as far as lab manuals go, although the students also like Kappelman's VIRTUAL LABORATORIES cd-rom.
There's an instructor's manual available for printout from the publisher, but the key has some WRONG answers, which is annoying when one is swamped or has a student assistant grading who may not realize that the key is wrong. For example, the solution to the ABO blood group frequencies in exercise 1.6.3b is wrong and there are some weird stats in exercise 11.2's key, but that might be my mistake.
Some of the info is arcane, and refers to information that is not available in the prefatory chapter in the manual or in most phys anth texts. Specifically, why is it important to know about cingula?
The exercises are a bit redundant and over-long, but that's what the students have told me -- I actually like the way that France has the students build the answers to the problems in stages, going from simple to complex. The pictures in the 5th edition ARE better, but the mechanics of doing the exercises w/pictures can get crazy sometimes, what with flipping back to see this figure or that. Some exercises refer to figures several chapters back, and are a little hard to find.
I know that I will keep using this manual. It's good for undergraduate through graduate students, it represents a huge amount of work on France's part (which I appreciate!) and it's the only game in town.
*** this review refers to the latest, 5th edition.
Caution!.......2003-07-03
The review quoted here refers to a VERY old edition. The new 5th edition is out now, so please review THAT edition for possible use. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Book Description
In addition to the traditional cytogenetics still used as the basic methodology for everyday clinical diagnosis, new molecular cytogenetic techniques provide a useful basis for routine diagnosis. Flourescence in situ hybridization (FISH) has become a standard technique, and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), spectral karyotyping (SKY), and multi-color FISH have shown their potential for diagnostic purposes. Following a section on tissue culture, chromosome staining and basic information about karyotyping, nomenclature and quality standards, protocols of relevance for comprehensive cytogenetic diagnostics are presented.
