Book Description
Look, look! Children run, fish swim, stars shine . . . all for baby's eyes to see. This sturdy board book, full of high-contrast black-and-white cut-paper art perfect for staring at, is just the thing for the eyes of the youngest babies. A few words in curving red type on each spread describe the scenes -- a car races, a cat stretches, flowers bloom-- and extend the book's age appeal so that it will be fascinating to older babies, too. Striking and stylish, Look Look! is the ideal first board book for babies just beginning to look and learn. Peter Linenthal is an illustrator who has taught art in elementary schools for twenty years.

early intervention must.......2007-10-05
This is a wonderful black and white book which will be easy for your infant to show how he/she can track objects. Great stimulation for infants.
It IS worth it!.......2007-09-22
My three month old loves this book (and has loved it for a month now). The first page with the hands and butterfly can hold her attention for a good minute or two. And she always smiles at the smiling sun/moon face. I "read" it in an animated voice....adding vroom vroom to the "car races" page and meow to the "cat stretches" page and wiggling the book for the "fish swim" page. Interestingly though the "fish swim" page doesn't do anything for her yet (surprising because it is the most dynamic image). Perhaps because it is at the end and with a book this intense a kid can get tired? I'd recommend it highly as a gift and to anyone with an infant.
The only book she'll pay attention to.......2007-08-01
My daughter loves this book from the day I bought it (at age 1 month). She really focuses on the imagery. Out of the gazillion books I have showed her, she likes this one the best.
Save Your Money.......2007-07-02
My newborn was not at all interested in this book. I tried to get him interested up until he was 3 months old. By 3 months he was interested in colorful books and I have since lost this book. Also, after purchasing this book, I found that you can print similar black and white images from the internet. I should have saved my money.
My Daughter's Favorite!.......2007-06-14
My 15 month old daughter loves this book so much, that I have it memorized! She just giggles and giggles when we read it to her. I'm actually here now buying a backup copy in case our "original" ever gets lost. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to any mom or dad who has an infant or toddler.

Book Description
Motion-Free Super-Resolution is a compilation of very recent work on various methods of generating super-resolution (SR) images from a set of low-resolution images. The current literature on this topic deals primarily with the use of motion cues for the purpose of generating SR images. These cues have, it is shown, their advantages and disadvantages. In contrast, this book shows that cues other than motion can also be used for the same purpose, and addresses both the merits and demerits of these new techniques.
Motion-Free Super-Resolution supersedes much of the lead author’s previous edited volume, "Super-Resolution Imaging," and includes an up-to-date account of the latest research efforts in this fast-moving field. This sequel also features a style of presentation closer to that of a textbook, with an emphasis on teaching and explanation rather than scholarly presentation.

Book Description
Written by international experts in the field,
Video Registration is a survey of the state of the art in this fundamental technology. It is an essential reference to both academicians and practicing engineers working in the fields of security, surveillance, multimedia, and robotics.
The increased availability of low-cost, low-power, highly accurate video imagery has resulted in a rapid growth of the applications for this data. Video imagery has many advantages over still frame imagery; for example, it provides context and timing relationships, which are suitable for dynamic situation monitoring and action verification. Manipulation of video requires automatic processing and analysis (computer vision and image processing), vast amounts of storage and efficient search methods (databases), high bandwidth communication (networking), and real-time implementations (VLSI/hardware). Users of video imagery include disaster relief agencies, environmental monitoring and planning applications, tactical military groups, civilian agencies such as homeland security agencies, city planners, transportation (traffic management), the entertainment industry, law enforcement groups, landscape ecologists, WWW users and trainers and educators.
Video Registration is suitable as a text at the senior undergraduate and graduate levels.
Book Description
In Audio-Vision, the French composer-filmmaker-critic Michel Chion presents a reassessment of the audiovisual media since sound's revolutionary debut in 1927 and sheds light on the mutual influences of sound and image in audiovisual perception.
Chion expands on the arguments from his influential trilogy on sound in cinema-- Las Voix au cinema, Le Son au cinema, and La Toile trouee--while providing an overview of the functions and aesthetics of sound in film and television. He considers the effects of evolving audiovisual technologies such as widescreen, multi-track sound, and Dolby stereo on audio-vision, influences of sound on the perception of space and time, and contemporary forms of audio-vision embodied in music videos, video art, and commercial television. His final chapter presents a model for audiovisual analysis of film.
Walter Murch, who contributes the foreward, has been honored by both the British and American Motion Picture Academies for his sound design and picture editing. His is especially well-known for his work on The Godfather, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now.
Customer Reviews:
Good book but too long........2004-09-24
Good information though written in a wordy style that I disliked. Could have been shorter and had better headings to bring out the structure and information.
Outstanding.......2002-01-11
This is the best book I have seen so far on theories for sound design. I used it for my graduate design research thesis 4 years ago at Carnegie Mellon, and I am about to require it for my students at UT next week, for a course in sound design. Chion opened up so many new ideas for me on different ways that sound affects us. Like the book itself, the forward by Walter Murch (considered by many to be a hero in film sound design) is inspiring.
Book Description
Voice & Vision is a comprehensive manual for the independent filmmakers and film students who want a solid grounding in the tools, techniques, and processes of narrative film in order to achieve their artistic vision. This book includes essential and detailed information on relevant film and digital video tools, a thorough overview of the filmmaking stages, and the aesthetic considerations for telling a visual story.
The ultimate goal of this book is to help you develop your creative voice while acquiring the solid practical skills and confidence to use it. Unlike many books that privilege raw technical information or the line-producing aspects of production, Voice & Vision places creativity, visual expression, and cinematic ideas front and center. After all, every practical decision a filmmaker makes, like choosing a location, an actor, a film stock, a focal length, a lighting set-up, an edit point, or a sound effect is also an expressive one and should serve the filmmakers vision. Every decision, from the largest conceptual choices to the smallest practical solutions, has a profound impact on what appears on the screen and how it moves an audience.
In Practice sidebars throughout Voice & Vision connect conceptual, aesthetic and technical issues to their application in the real world. Some provide a brief analysis of a scene or technique from easily rentable films which illustrate how a specific technology or process is used to support a conceptual, narrative, or aesthetic choice. Others recount common production challenges encountered on real student and professional shoots which will inspire you to be innovative and resourceful when you are solving your own filmmaking challenges.
Other features in Voice & Vision include:
* Comprehensive technical information on film and digital video production with a focus on low-budget techniques and creative expression
* Close to 600 lavish illustrations
* A seamless integration of film and digital video. Express yourself with any camera and any format.
* A focus on successful filmmaking within limitations, learn to work successfully with available resources (time, equipment, budget, personnel) and turn limitations into opportunities.
* A substantial exploration of the sound tools and techniques used in film production and the creative impact of the post-production sound design.

Product Description
This comprehensive new book deals with motion estimation for autonomous systems from a biological, algorithmic and digital perspective. An algorithm, which is based on the optical flow constraint equation, is described in detail. This algorithm fits with the motion processing model, hardware and software constraints and resolves depth-velocity ambiguity, which is critical for autonomous navigation. There is also extensive coverage on the use of this algorithm in digital hardware and describes both the initial motion processing model, the chosen hardware platforms, and the global function of the system.
Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-06-24
This is a VERY good book for Eragon lovers and movie fans alike. I have read it a bunch and never tire of it. Lots of pictures (With captions.) Defenetly a MUST HAVE. Quotes from the actors and inside stories are all in.
In-depth look at a shallow movie.......2006-12-11
"Eragon",the book,lacks many things--a plot,believable characters,good writing.But how will it fare as a movie?
"Mythic vision:The making of the movie Eragon" by Mark Cotta Vaz provides a fascinating glimpse into Stefen Fangmeier's heroic attempt to make a dull, derivative book into a fun film.Vaz first follows the self-publishing quest of the author,Christopher Paolini, who through the magic of marketing, became an overnight success.Paolini's Montana boyhood is briefly touched upon--but since this is a book aimed at kids, not teens--it doesn't mention how his parents once belonged to the survivalist cult Church Universal and Triumphant headed by Elizabeth Clare Prophet.
Next,Vaz explores technical aspects of the movie. He shows how the battle of Farthen Dur--which is set in a volcanic crater--was filmed in an actual volcanic crater in Hungary. He tells of how a designer for rock stars made the leather pants&armor.
The most interesting part of the book is the exploration of how Stefen Fangmeier adapted the original "Eragon" and took extensive liberties. For example,in the book,Daret is a useless tangent;in the movie,it becomes the setting for Angela's prophecy to Eragon&it is a city built on a lake.In the book, the Urgals look like Minotaurs;in the movie, they look like barbarians. In the book, the Ra'zac are giant ravenlike beings;in the movie, they resemble mummies.Fangmeier took extensive liberties with the book because the original is deeply flawed.
"Mythic Vision" is a great, fun read.
Never Seen Anything Like It.......2006-03-31
I believe that this movie will be tremendous. I've read both of Mr. Paolini's books several times over and over again. This is going to be a star hit in the movie industry and I cant wait for the next two movies following his Trilogy.
Customer Reviews:
One of the few very interesting nonfiction books.......2005-12-28
I got this book at Disneyland yesterday. It was SO great! I'm glad I bought this instead of a stuffed Sally doll. It was very interesting, and I'm very pleased to see storyboards and the very informative contents of the book, especially the poem of The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, I wish I could've read more of the poem Tim Burton wrote. Then I could compare it to the original poem of The Night Before Christmas. Tim Burton is an exceedingly creative man, and I'm glad he makes stop-motion animation, because I'm SO sick of all the stupid computer animated movies that studios make nowadays. Tim Burton follows his own ideas, and this movie inspired me to be a stop-motion animator when I grow up, alongside with a career as an author.
-Jo W.
This Book Is So Cool!.......2005-09-25
If you've ever seen Tim Burton's truly excellent stop-motion animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you've probably wondered, "How was all this done?" This book can answer that. Inside you'll find the stories behind the screenplay, the music, the process of stop-motion animation itself, and see some of Burton's original sketches that gave inspiration to one of the most imaginative and outright magnificent movies in the last fifteen years. If you love The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you'll go nuts over this book.
A must have in your personal library.......2005-08-30
If you're interested in knowing more about Tim Burton's movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, this book is a great buy. It has all the details about the making of the movie and the characters plus loads of great pictures. A must have for every Nightmare Before Christmas enthusiast.
Very illustrative..........2005-07-11
This book is definitely very illustrative about the process of creation of a film of the caliber of `The nightmare before Christmas'. With a foreword by Tim Burton, the book includes everything related with the making of this stop-motion animation classic. This book is more a documentary about the making of the film; it is divided in three sections (described below) and takes you through the whole process of creation of the movie. It is an interesting document indeed for people wanting to know about the creative process of making a movie of this kind. A perfect companion for the film!
The Film
The first part of the book focuses on the story ans the lyrics of the movie songs, beautifully illustrated with pictures from the movie, designs and Burton's sketches. Some movie facts are also given in this part of the book.
The Art
The original poem by Burton in which the movie is based on is presented in the firt part of the section. Most of Burton's sketches and character designs are here. The design of the sets, the characters and storyboards are well explained and presented in this section of the book with beautiful pictures, colored sketches and original drawings by Tim.
The Vision
In this section we get to meet all the people involved in making this film possible, and a little background on her profiles and how they were selected to partake on this project. Tim Burton, Henry Selick, Danny Elfman, Caroline Thompson, Kathleen Gavin and Denise Di Novi participate with comments and thought about the project.
GREAT, BUT WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE MORE.......2005-04-05
I bought this book wanting to know more about the making of the movie, but didn't get as much as I'd hoped for. It does include many sketches from Tim Burton, but hardly an from others who worked on the film. Yes, it does include lyrics to the songs featured in the film, all except for the one I was hoping for ( I can't remember the name, but it's the last song in the movie sung by Jack & Sally... "if you don't mind, I'd like to join you by your side, Where we can gaze upon the stars, And sit together, Now and Forever..")
Most of the book is a pictoral reference on the movie, and though I certainly would have loved to see more, it was still a good buy. It's just too bad I didn't get to read anything on the making of the film, or Burton's thoughts on its production.
