Customer Reviews:
A Must Read for Everyone.......2002-05-29
This is a wonderful book and I've recommended it to all of my friends and family members. This book covers much more than just a diet. It incorporates recommendations on how to enhance your lymphatic system through specific lifestyle changes. Dr. Lemole also includes many wonderful recipes that are easy to make and are delicious. This book truly inspired me to change the way I eat and I how I choose to live my life day-to-day.
Dr. Lemole is a well-respected and very experienced cardiovascular surgeon. In his book he combines traditional views of medicine with what have typically been "non-traditional" healing therapies.
Dr. Lemole uses an easy to understand language to describe complex medical terminology and his recommendations are easy to follow. I feel that his diet and lifestyle recommendations have helped me to feel better than I have in years. Since I'm only 35, I'd like to think that living a healthy lifestyle will help me avoid some of the medical problems associated with getting older.
The Healing Diet.......2001-01-03
It is truly refreshing to know that Dr. Lemole being a well respected mainstream clinician, surgeon and scientist is willing to recognize the patient as a whole person. Dr. Lemole speaks to the scientific justification for his theories on lymph system clearance, explains easy to follow healthy guidelines related to the spiritual side of the patient, provides support and recipes for his dietary recommendations. I am impressed with Dr. Lemole's willingness to address the body's need for vitamin and mineral supplementation. I have attempted to discuss vitamin, mineral and herbal supplementation with other medical doctors. The subject is met with resistance or is not well known and therefore dismissed. I encourage those individuals that want an active role in their own health and health care to evaluate Dr. Lemole's sound judgement and create a dialogue with their health care professionals.

Breast Cancer and Iodine : How to Prevent and How to Survive Breast Cancer

Singer and Grismaijer have collected striking (but preliminary) evidence that bra-wearing may be a major risk factor associated with breast cancer: women who wear tight-fitting bras 24 hours a day are 125 times more likely to have breast cancer than women who do not wear bras at all. Their interpretation is that tight clothing inhibits the proper functioning of the lymphatic system (an internal network of vessels and nodes that flushes wastes from the body) and leads to a buildup of carcinogenic compounds in the constricted areas.
Although it must be emphasized that their studies are preliminary, still controversial, and definitely need to be followed up with detailed analyses of correlative factors (do these women have higher rates of smoking? do they have less-healthy diets?), this book should be read by anyone concerned about breast cancer. Possibly a very important book that could save many lives.

EVERYONE Should Check Out This Research!!.......2007-06-25
This is one of few books that I have multiple copies of just to lend out to friends and family. Overall, it deals with the compression of the lymphatic system in our bodies and how this leads to the beginnings of cancer cell growth.
The lymph system is what carries and gets rid of the toxins in our bodies. When various lymph nodes are compressed day in and out (by such things as bras, tight clothing, etc.) toxins are not able to be excreted as they are meant to be, and this build up of carcinogens leads to cancerous cell growth.
The book includes research from various cultures - those who typically wear bras, and those who don't, as well as what happens when non-bra wearing women move to the U.S. and start wearing on a daily basis... The authors also discuss other forms of clothing-lymph constriction and cancer sites -- such as tight jeans around the abdomen/pelvis area and glasses that constrict the lymph system around the nose. Interestingly, the 3 biggest sites of cancer in the U.S. are around the breast, the abdomen/pelvic region, and around the nose. This is not seen in cultures that do not wear constrictive clothing.
Granted, there are likely several factors that go into who develops, and who does not develop cancerous cell growth. However, the research presented here is empirical, sound, and more than compelling.
It is a great book, easy to read, packed with data, and gives us something to really think about... The author specializes in culture-based health and wellness and is the head of a health research college in Hawaii. His wife (who is also an author of the book) suffered from cyst/tumor development in her breast after decades of bra-wearing. She treated this with natural measures - the foremost being to take off her bra! She is now cyst/tumor free.
The authors discuss the myth that I have heard many women voice -- "If I don't wear a bra, won't my breasts sag?!" NO! The reverse is actually true...Just as in other parts of the body - the muscles you use are the muscles that stay firm and strong and supportive. Authors go into the physiological makeup of the breasts and breast tissue.
I also highly recommend checking out The Healing Power of 8 Sugars for those interested in pro-actively warding off cancer cell growth or eliminating it from the body. This book is written by 21 top doctors in various fields of health and deals with the roles of glyconutrients and glycobiology in the body. Both books deal with the ability of our bodies' cells to clean out toxins and restore themselves, the way the body is designed to function when given what it needs to work properly - a free flowing lymphatic system and cell-to-cell communication.
The Healing Power of 8 Sugars: An Amazing Breakthrough in Nutrition, Sciences and Medicine
Excellent Book.......2007-02-17
I had always thought that clothes are evil. Okay, not really. But tight clothes can do evil things.
This book is a well written report that does an excellent job of explaining not only why bras are probably a factor in getting breast cancer... but it goes into great detail on how the study was done, why it was done and the personal connection between the authors and the issue. Throughout the book I had about a hundred "that makes sense... what are we {as a society) thinking" moments.
It delves into areas that traditional oncology studies avoid (I think withholding information is as bad as disseminating incorrect information) and it successfully furthered my belief that the traditional medical community, media and most of the rest of our society may keep information (which won't result in huge sales) hidden. If the people who control what we see and hear (which ultimately sways our lifestyle choices) will not be more socially responsible and less selfishly capital driven, we need to be more open to the possibility that our society's selfishness can kill us.
What a difference 12 hours can make. . . . . . .......2007-02-09
I had this book in my going to purchase file for several years. After I read the book, I couldn't believe how long it took me to make this purchase. The information presented is not redundant from my point of view. I have never heard of this particular viewpoint in regards to breast cancer. The author gives a glimse of their own journey and research. And when you think about all the information that they present, it actually makes sense.
To sum it up . . . This book is about a couple finding out about cancer and the decisions they had to make to save a life and what they chose to do about the information obtained along the way of their journey of healing. It was their personal quest to research breast cancer and what could be the cause that we as a society are overlooking. This book includes the results from a questionaire regarding bras usage and responses from their survey. There is an interesting emphasis on how minimal pressures on the lymphatic system is correlated to breast cancer.
How do the experts know?.......2007-01-29
The experts and institutions all dismiss the
idea that bra wearing leads to cancer but how do they know or what is their basis for saying that? Can you know anything without a study? And admitedly they don't know what causes it,but they know it isn't bras.
Singer is faulted for lack of rigor in his study. It's just a beginning survey. How would you get funded for a more expanded study? His method was very simple and elegant. He took a large group of women and asked them how many hours a day they spent wearing a bra and found that it was related to the number that developed breast cancer. Those that seldom or never wore one, seldom developed cancer, whereas those who wore one 24/7, a majority developed cancer.
Those who wore one for a lessor amount of time had an intermediate rate. Sure there are
contaminating factors but they tend to cancel out in large group studies.
This reminds me of the old studies relating the packs of cigarettes smoked per day to the likelyhood of developing lung cancer.
What if it turns out he is wrong and women gave up their bras needlessly? Would that be such a loss? If he's right, what a benefit.
This book may yet become a classic in time.
Dressed to Kill: The Link between Breast Cancer and Bras.......2007-01-10
It is amazing to me that this work has not received more serious attention by the general public and the medical profession. It is an excellent book about a very serious problem effecting a large number of people.

Book Description
Sjogren's syndrome, currently the most prevalent autoimmune disorder in America, is disease in which the body mistakenly attacks its own moisture-producing glands in the eyes, mouth, skin, and vagina, disrupting the function of the internal organs and central nervous system. Written by two Sjogren's sufferers, this book provides medical information, research results, treatment methods, and suggestions for coping with this often debilitating disease.

excellent choice.......2007-05-27
This book was a great source of information. It was wonderful and patient friendly. After being given a diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome, I really didn't know what it meant, but after reading this book it made a lot of things clearer. This is a must read for anyone with this syndrome. My money was well spent.

Purchased this book for my Mother who was diagnosed with Sgogren's Syndrome, a disease we had never heard of. It helped us understand. Easy to read and understand.
A Must for All Sjogren's Patients.......2006-03-15
This book is the perfect companion for dealing , day to day, with this perplexing disease. There are so many different symptoms, and they combine in such a varied degree that most of us feel at a loss as to what to do. This book will become your constant reference companion, giving you information and ideas that, often, not even your Dr. can supply.
Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide.......2005-08-10
A lifesaver for recently diagnosed patients. The book covers so may aspects of a very complex disease. Written by People who know the disease.
Very helpful.......2004-04-30
I really enjoyed this book because it deals with the emotional and psychological effects of having a chronic illness. Sometimes when patients are diagnosed with autoimmune diseases they feel very frightened and alone...this book lets people know that others can totally empathize and relate to what they are experiencing. It gives advice on what to look for in a doctor (many are ignorant of autoimmune diseases!), and how to cope with people who just don't understand the debilitating impact of Sjogren's. I recommend this book in conjunction with the New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook, which maps out the biomedical aspects of the disease.

Book Description
Workshops on the mechanisms of B cell neoplasia have been organized alternatively in Bethesda and Basel since 1983. Progress in our understanding of the development and responses of B lymphocytes is presented and discussed with the aim and hope to understand what might go wrong when B lymphocytes are transformed into malignant cells. Such knowledge might lead to better diagnosis, prevention and even cure of these terrible diseases. This volume is the latest of a long series which documents the excitements of ground-breaking discoveries as well as the frustrations of our inability to fully understand the mechanisms leading to B cell neoplasia.

Book Description
Presenting many previously unknown patterns of lymph drainage and based on more than 2000 studies of melanoma patients, this book is a valuable addition to the topic of lymphatic mapping and sentinel node biopsy which is of such considerable interest in surgical oncology. The authors' vast experience and their insights in applying this technique to patients with melanoma will be invaluable to any surgical oncology team contemplating introducing this approach to management of their patients. A section on lymphatic drainage patterns of the breast is also included, based on 90 studies of breast cancer patients. The new lymphatic drainage pathways described will also be of interest to other surgeons and anatomists.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
A&P Revealed...layer by layer!.......2006-03-24
The best things about this series are:
-the plain fact that we're veiwing cadaver images (mostly), and not artist's renditions.
-the ability to 'fade' the layers in and out. This allows one to relate internal structures to each other and to surface anatomy.
-The terms and information for each image are concise and are displayed WITH the image (in a sep box), so no toggling or moving around within the app.
-For many features, there are animated models that can be linked to (eg. see the movement that the muscles facilitate)
Drawbacks:
-"tagged" features (labelled) are sometimes limited. This is not a hugely comprehensive bank of data, but probably just right for first-years.
Overall, I like this bundle alot (tho I've only seen vol 1 & 3), and am enthusiastic about the efforts to adopt it at our Community College for lower div A&P students. At the very least, it will be made available in the independent study lab. Though there are many CD_ROMs similar to this, I must offer kudos to Ohio Med school for putting together a lovely and well-designed tool for studying human anatomy!
