This is a great book. It teaches me how to analyze the competitive business environment we have today. It provides many good examples to illustrate the concepts. The book also includes many cases that tell me what strategies those big companies employ and how they succeed. I really like the book.

Dealing with the Unknowns? Then, this is the book for you........2004-06-28
Invariably, the final semister/quarter of General Chemistry involves determining the ions contained in an unknown solution. This can be a frustrating time for a student, which is in many instances due to the lack of clearly written and understandable laboratory procedures. When I took the class, I thankfully had a savvy professor who utilized this book (the Sixth edition) as the sole laboratory procedures. As a consequence, I did well in the lab (grade was an A) and had a positive experience.
As a teaching assistant in graduate school, I recalled how useful this book was and developed my lectures based on its content (the Chemistry department at that university utilized its own "home grown" book of procedures which were sadly lacking in clarity). This book contains much of the necessary background in reaction kinetics, solution phenomenon, and ionic properties for each group that a student needs to perform and understand the experiments. Two of the most important and indispensable aspects of this book are the flow charts and the questions in each chapter. The flow charts provide a clear, overall picture of the procedures and are easy to follow. I implemented flow charts similar to these in my class with much success. Many of my students copied those flow charts and gave them to classmates in other laboratory sections. The questions were VERY helpful in clarifying how separations of the ions could be successfully achieved and the importance of reaction conditions during these separations. The questions, or variations of them, also made good lab quiz questions. (Hint, hint.) I highly recommend answering the questions prior to performing the lab to give yourself a better idea of what to expect when following the procedures. With this book and good laboratory techniques, you should have no problem acing the Unknowns.

Analytical Pyrolysis of Synthetic Organic Polymers is a follow-up to Analytical Pyrolysis of Natural Organic Polymers, which is volume 20 of the series. The main focus of the book is on practical applications of analytical pyrolysis in synthetic organic polymer identification and characterization.
The first part of the book has five chapters including an introduction, a discussion on physico-chemistry of thermal degradation of synthetic polymers and on instrumentation used in analytical pyrolysis, a chapter discussing what type of information can be obtained from analytical pyrolysis, and a chapter dedicated to the analysis and characterization of synthetic polymers.
The second part systematically covers the analytical pyrolysis of various classes of synthetic polymers. Some theoretical background for the understanding of polymer structure using analytical pyrolysis is also discussed.

This book provides me with technical information commonly needed in a laboratory environment. It seems to boil down many references all into one easy to read book. The index is fantastic, you can find anything in the book quickly and easily. This is usually a problem with most reference books, but not with this one.

I had the pleasure of working with Vatche for several months. Vatche was taught by the smartest guys in the world at Caltech (where he got his Ph.D.) and then began teaching Ph.D's at Caltech before he became the number 1 designer for the power supplies for most of NASA's spacecraft instruments. If you're smart enough to understand this book you'll benefit greatly! Vatche is considered probably the smartest guy in the world on switching power supplies.
how to calculate things you are not interested in.......2006-11-09
This book is a work of academic excellence. The authors have solved a calculation problem that no one else could do. The practical problem with the book is that it shows how to do precise calculations of electronic circuit parameters that are rarely needed and can be done with a circuit simulator in less time. One example is the precise value of out of band gain and impedance of an amplifier.

This book is great for graduating engineers who have to review what they learned. I would recommend it over 90% of the books out there on circuit analysis. Its great for self education. And its a great book for learning the EET theorem. I will suggest that you get the hardcover over the e-book. If you can get a copy get the hardcover.

This book mainly focus on STM. However, it doesn't cover much on AFM.
