Book Description
Well-known as the "bible" in its field, this text/reference has been thoroughly revised and updated by a team of internationally recognized and clinically experienced neuropsychologists. Drawing on their diverse interests, they provide authoritative, broad-based, and in-depth coverage of current research and clinical practice in neuropsychology. They have not, however, changed the book's overall organization. The first eight chapters present the knowledge base for understanding the principles and practice of patient-oriented, hypothesis-testing neuropsychological assessment. The last 12 chapters review nearly all tests and assessment techniques discussed in previous editions plus many new ones and recent revisions of older tests. The extent of the updating is apparent from the fact that approximately half of the more than 7,000 references cited appeared since the last edition was published. Many new topics relevant to current assessment practices have been added to the 4th edition. The chapter on examination procedures, for example, now contains sections on cognitive functioning in pain and PTSD patients. The chapter on brain disorders includes new material on electrical/lighting injuries, migraine, Alzheimer's disease and other dementing disorders, and both medical and psychological treatments. The discussion of assessment procedures has been updated throughout to cover recently published test batteries used in general neuropsychological assessment (e.g., mental abilities, memory), newly developed batteries for specific issues (e.g., frontal lobe evaluation), and recent research on older neuropsychological assessment batteries. The fully revised chapter on assessing response bias describes and evaluates more than 60 tests, test combinations, and other measures for detecting questionable effort within the context of forensic neuropsychological assessment.

Neuropsychological Assessment.......2006-02-24
This is a brilliant book. A must have for anyone doing psychometric testing!
Best thing going.......2005-09-25
this book is the seminal work in the field, in my opinion. the book is very comprehensive and well-organized, and you don't have to be a neuropsychologist to understand or use it. it is a great reference for therapists and patients alike who are looking for an increased understanding of brain function and behavior. of course, it is also an excellent resource on conducting neuropsychological testing and can help practitioners of all sorts make a more educated guess regarding the need for assessment/referral.
Lezak's Neuropsychological Assessment.......2005-09-09
Highly recommended! If there is one indispensable text in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology this is it, both for the practicing neuropsychologist and the student. As with the previous editions this text really has no equal in the field. It is the reference I pull most frequently from my bookshelf.
New edition out soon.......2004-02-20
This is a fantastic reference book. I can't count how many times I have opened it. HOWEVER, there is a new edition coming out in June 2004, so the interested yet frugal buyer might want to hold off for a few months
This is an invaluable resource for assessment........1998-05-24
Neuropsychological assessment provides an invaluable resource for anyone interested in assessment. Lezak has provided innumerable references as well as current information about instruments and their neuropsychological applications. As a graduate student and in everyday practice, I have found this book to be constantly on my desk. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the field of assessment.
Book Description
This richly illustrated and superbly organized text/atlas is the first volume of the new Diagnostic and Surgical Imaging Anatomy series produced by the innovative medical information systems provider Amirsys(R). Written by the preeminent authorities in each radiologic subspecialty, these volumes will give radiologists a thorough understanding of the detailed anatomy that underlies contemporary imaging. Each volume features over 2,500 high-resolution 3T MRI and multidetector row CT images in many planes, combined with over 300 correlative full-color anatomic drawings that show human anatomy in the projections radiologists use. Succinct, bulleted text accompanying the images identifies the clinical and pathologic entities in each anatomic area.
Customer Reviews:
The best imaging anatomy texts - bar none!.......2007-09-22
This series of anatomy texts has no peer. Each section outlines the key facts, presents superbly executed graphics in explanation, then proceeds to meticulously demonstrate the fine details and subtleties of imaging anatomy using well-labelled and captioned images from every imaging modality ---from plain radiographs through ultrasound, CT, MR, scintigraphy, and even PET.
Admittedly the three volumes will set you back nearly a $1,000 if you get the e-book option (very worthwhile to avoid lugging the set back and forth from home to work), but nothing else comes close to such completeness and quality.
Radiology textbook review........2007-03-27
This is one of the best Radiology textbooks I have ever seen. It is brilliant!
The ideal book for a practicing radiologist, resident, fellow or surgeon........2006-11-08
This book is exceptional. The cross-sectional CT, MR, and volume rendered images are great! Structures are clearly, but unobtrusively labeled. Probably the best quality of this book is its repetitive nature. The reader is presented with multiple similar (though not identical) images of the same structure from different vantage points, throughout the book- quite helpful when one tries to integrate 2 dimensional data into a 3D frame of reference. I'm glad that I bought it and I would do so again. I believe in full disclosure- the only slight disadvantage is the cost, which is fairly pricey- but I believe it was DEFINITELY worth it. While Netter's work can never be duplicated, this book surpasses what a radiologist can glean from a basic anatomy book.
Just what I needed!.......2006-07-29
At last a text with up to date radiological anatomy of the head and neck. We all know that this is potentially the most challenging area to interpret and none of the standard texts to date are equal to demonstrating the level of exquisite detail obtained by modern imaging techniques. The radiological images and the illustrative drawings are excellent and the organization correlates well with the problems likely to be found in radiological practice.

Book Description
Sohlberg and Mateer's landmark introductory text helped put cognitive rehabilitation on the map for a generation of clinicians, researchers, educators, and students. Now, more than a decade later, the discipline has come of age. This new volume provides a comprehensive overview of this fast-evolving field. More than a revised edition, the text reflects the dramatic impact of recent advances in neuroscience and computer technology, coupled with changes in service delivery models. The authors describe a broad range of clinical interventions for assisting persons with acquired cognitive impairments--including deficits in attention, memory, executive functions, and communication--and for managing associated emotional and behavioral issues. For each approach, theoretical underpinnings are reviewed in depth and clinical protocols delineated. Difficult concepts are explained in a clear, straightforward fashion, with realistic case examples bringing the material to life. Also included are samples of relevant assessment instruments, rating scales, and patient handouts. Throughout, the new volume emphasizes the need to work from a community perspective, providing a framework for forming collaborative partnerships with families and caregivers. It is an essential resource for professionals across a wide variety of rehabilitation specialities, and will serve as a text in courses on rehabilitation methods and neurogenic disorders.

Book Description
Why do we feel the way we feel? How do our thoughts and emotions affect our health? Are our bodies and minds distinct from each other or do they function together as parts of an interconnected system?
In her groundbreaking book Molecules of Emotion, Candace Pert provides startling and decisive answers to these and other challenging questions that scientists and philosophers have pondered for centuries.
Her pioneering research on how the chemicals inside our bodies form a dynamic information network, linking mind and body, is not only provocative, it is revolutionary. By establishing the biomolecular basis for our emotions and explaining these new scientific developments in a clear and accessible way, Pert empowers us to understand ourselves, our feelings, and the connection between our minds and our bodies -- body-minds -- in ways we could never possibly have imagined before.
Molecules of Emotion is a landmark work, full of insight and wisdom and possessing that rare power to change the way we see the world and ourselves.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing story ...........2007-09-27
I really enjoyed this book. I know other women PhD'ers so I was not put off by Dr. Pert's style of writing and confidence. My husband, on the other hand was and put it down after only a few pages. I was amazed and enthralled by her story and life. I think the book would appeal to women more than men. She was after all, at the forefront of the women's movement and what courage it must have taken to enter into the field of science research--the big boy domain! Even though the book was published in the late 1990's and much of what she discovered has been in the public domain by now--it is still a very good book to read and one of those larger than life bio's.
A Must Read for Anyone Interested in Health.......2007-08-16
I absolutely loved this book. A great book to read in conjunction with Molecules of Emotion is Feelings Buried Alive Never Die becasue Molecules of Emotion is the science behind Feelings Buried Alive Never Die. I think both books are a must read for anyone who wants more out of life and does not want to waste time being duped by the American Health Industry.
Molecules of Emotion from Lucy's Standpoing.......2007-07-30
I purchased this on the recommendation of a friend. I have always been such a skeptic about Chakra's but remain open to new ideas including this. I haven't been home enough to read the book as much as I would like to but expect that it will make good evening reading as the days grow shorter. When I have read it takes a while for the material to sink in and I find I need to ponder each concept some before moving on.
A very important book.......2007-07-24
Candace B. Pert gives a fascinating account of her research and her findings on how mind and body interact. I read this book before I read ORDINARY MIND: EXPLORING THE COMMON GROUND OF ZEN AND PSYCHOANALYSIS, by Barry Magid, and WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW, by William Arntz, Betsy Chasse and Mark Vicente. These latter two books throw more light on the chemistry behind what goes on inside our minds and bodies. All of these books provide helpful tools in understanding ourselves and others.
Molecules of Emotion Review.......2007-05-17
The title of this book may lead one to believe that it is a text book. However, although it does contain science that is easily understood by the non-scientist, it is autobiographical. Candace Pert tells of her journey in the world of male-dominated science. I would recommend it for any young woman starting out in science.
Book Description
The Handbook of Psychophysiology, 3rd Edition is an essential reference for students, researchers, and professionals in the behavioral, cognitive, and biological sciences. Psychophysiological methods, paradigms, and theories offer entry to a biological cosmos that does not stop at skin's edge, and this essential reference is designed as a road map for explorers of this cosmos. The scope and coverage in the Handbook have expanded to include both a context for and coverage of the biological bases of cognitive, affective, social, and developmental processes and behavior. In addition to updated coverage of the traditional areas of psychophysiology, coverage of the brain and central nervous system has been expanded to include functional neuroimaging, event related brain potentials, electrophysiological source dipole localization, lesion methods, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. It also includes a section on cellular and humoral systems with attention to the communication across and interactions among cellular, immunological, endocrinological, and neural processes.

Excelent book to get detailed knowledge on methods.......2003-10-03
I have read the second chapter on ERPs and it is excelent.
Book Description
Practical Neuroangiography, Second Edition is a complete, concise, current, practical, and richly illustrated guide to diagnostic and interventional neuroangiography and neurovascular disease. Techniques and safety chapters take readers through the actual hands-on experience in the angiography suite and specifically address issues concerning patient safety, radiation protection, complications, and outcome. Subsequent chapters describe and illustrate the entire gamut of neurovascular anatomy, anatomic variants, and pathology to help readers interpret neuroangiographic studies.
This edition's expanded section on interventional neuroradiology covers the most common elective and emergent interventional procedures. The updated artwork includes over 1,000 photographs and diagrams, some in full-color or two-color.
Customer Reviews:
Great illustrations, diagrams and labeled arteriograms.......2001-02-11
This is a great book for anyone interested in neuroangiography. The beginning chapter goes through the nuances of selective catheterisation and meticulous anti-embolic technique with each step nicely illustrated. It is difficult to get this information elsewhere. The anatomic chapters emphasize the issues that routinely arise when trying to define cerebral aneurysms. These chapters also clarify a lot of vascular nomenclature that can be otherwise confusing. I refer to this book whenever I come across an atypical vessel. If neuroangiography is part of your practice, you will find this book extremely helpful and will want a copy of it in your neuroangiography area.

No better title for this book.......2000-09-08
This is an excellent starting point for the senior radiology resident or beginning diagnostic neuroradiology fellow who wants to learn the basics of "practical neuroangiography." It is wordier than Ann Osborn's new "Diagnostic Cerebral Angiography" and it contains a bit more statistical information and factoids than I could deal with at times but seldom do books entitled "practical" live up to there names as this one does. There are numerous excellent angiographic examples and line drawings which illustrate common normal variants. I think the greatest asset of this book is the beginning chapters on technical procedures which gives many useful (ie practical) points on performing cerebral angiography which is were it really excels over Osborn. This is a must have in the library of any newcomer to the field.
Book Description
Sleep disorders and insomnia have staggering societal and personal costs, with lack of sleep accounting for up to 50% of industrial and traffic accidents every year. This book guides the clinician in how to best establish a sleep clinic to study and solve sleep disturbances of his or her patients. Residents in the rapidly growing number of sleep medicine programs will want to keep this practical, hands-on manual at their sides as they learn the tools of the trade.
Customer Reviews:
Concise, practical & easy to read.......2006-04-15
Perlis and collaborators put together a succinct and practical book on CBT for insomnia. The book is aimed for clinicians, researchers and sleep behavioral therapists. This beautiful hardcover edition begins with defining insomnia and explaining the conceptual framework of CBT treatment. Then, step by step, the author explains how to perform 8-sessions of behavioral therapy. Each concept is reinforced by a sample dialogue; it is like having a coach next to the reader. Troubleshooting frequently encountered problems such as non-adherence is also explained. Then a sample case, session by session. To finalize, the appendices have useful clinical tools. All of these qualities make this book a must for sleep medicine fellows, or clinicians interested in CBT for insomnia.

Book Description
The presentation and interpretation of visual information is essential to almost every activity in human life and most endeavors of modern technology. This book examines the current status of what is known (and not known) about human vision, how human observers interpret visual data, and how to present such data to facilitate their interpretation and use. Written by experts who are able to cross disciplinary boundaries, the book provides an educational pathway through several models of human vision; describes how the visual response is analyzed and quantified; presents current theories of how the human visual response is interpreted; discusses the cognitive responses of human observers; and examines such applications as space exploration, manufacturing, surveillance, earth and air sciences, and medicine. The book is intended for everyone with an undergraduate-level background in science or engineering with an interest in visual science. This second edition has been brought up to date throughout and contains a new chapter on "Virtual reality and augmented reality in medicine."

Nicholas Wade takes a daring approach in this collection of documents from the history of optical studies. In it, he compiles a curiously structured anthology of writers, from the 5th-century B.C. Greek philosopher Democritus to the 19th-century English musical instrument maker Charles Wheatstone, including such famous students of light and vision as Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. These thinkers are grouped by theme ("Light and the Eye," for example, or "Space") and by date, but only very loosely by immediate subject, giving the book a hop-around feel. Wade freely admits that the organization of the anthology requires work of the reader; it may indeed call for effort, but his collection is of signal usefulness to students of the history of science and the optical sciences. --Gregory McNamee
Book Description
This illustrated survey covers what Nicholas Wade calls the "observational era of vision," beginning with the Greek philosophers and ending with Wheatstone's description of the stereoscope at the end of the 1830s (after which vision became an experimental science). Although there are other histories of vision, this is the first to present extracts of the works of scholars, organized both topically and chronologically. In what has become the author's signature style, the book juxtaposes verbal and visual descriptions. Many of the over three hundred illustrations are derived from engravings--of portraits of the scholars cited, as well as of scientific diagrams.
Each portrait appears beside a significant quotation by the scholar, along with the dates of birth and death, and the source of the original illustration. The author's commentary provides the context for the quotations and traces the scientific development within each topic. The book is organized around the principal topics within the investigation of visual phenomena: light, color, subjective visual phenomena (such as afterimages and pattern distortions), motion, binocularity, space, and visual illusions.

finding your way around vision.......2003-11-29
I'm a photographer who thinks about photography and its relationship to human vision. Wade's book is an inspiration for that kind of thinking. What is remarkable about this book is the way it reveals that understanding HOW we see did not come easily to humanity.
