1 out of 5 stars Redundant Rambling Fiction.......2007-06-02

It is common knowledge that this book is really a pile of lies. It isn't much of an autobiography and leaves the reader wondering which, if any, parts of it to really consider seriously.

It is truly painful to read due to the unending redundant rambling nature of Menchu's storytelling.

I cannot believe that this garbage is still being assigned as required reading. Worthless.

4 out of 5 stars I,Roberta Menchú.......2007-01-24

We give I, Rigoberta Menchú four stars because it was a good book but at the same time it was complicated to understand. For instead, it was a good book because she explains her life very well with details. Rigoberta also never gave up she kept going no matter as hard situation she'll face in her life. This book is complicated because Rigoberta just keeps repeating her self, is like we want to know more, something different. What we learn from this book, if we really truly want something we should never give up and when you feel like falling down for a moment, pick your self up and accomplish your dream.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing book of survival.......2006-12-30

I read this book years ago and re-read it again recently. It is still one of my favorite books. Rigoberta Menchu suffered unbelievable atrocities and incredible losses and still lived to tell her courageous story through an interpreter. I think the book is phenomenal and I recommend it to anyone with a heart. It helps explain a lot about the Guatamalen people and their strife. It also is a timely book since the illegal immigration debate rages on in this country on a daily basis. It paints a vivid picture of the suffering of indigenous peoples and helps us to relate to their need to escape their countries in search of a better life. I dont know what David Stoll had to gain by writing a book that contradicted Menchu's powerful account. She states at the beginning of her book that her perspective is hers alone and that her memories may have been clouded by the trauma. It makes me crazy when people pick apart one tiny aspect of a book and then, throw the entire thing out as a sham. The same thing happened with the James Frey book, A million little pieces. People tended to ignore the overall strengths of the book and his basic message of surviving drug addiction over a few little insignificant details. This book is the same situation. The overall message and story of rigoberta menchu is so powerful and moving, it must be read, even if there is a fact or two that someone wants to contradict.

5 out of 5 stars Memorable.......2006-06-16

I read this book shortly before visiting Guatemala, and I have to say it made my travel experience alot richer. I felt more sensitized to the currents of racism and political struggle still present in the country, as well as to the pain of a people recovering from a horror in the not so distant past. Nearly every Guatemalan that I met had some powerful story of the genocide, and this book gave me a good background on the facts and politics behind the peasant struggle.

Though it has been criticized as being imbellished and realistically inaccurate, I think that it can still be used as a tool to learn about the native Quiche culture in past and present times. Their spiritual and political beliefs and their connections to the natural world are interwoven throughout the memoir. And most importantly, the horror of a major Latin American genocide that still scars the memories of peasants in the region today. Rigoberta was very matter of fact in sharing information about the torture and killing of her people in gruesome detail... so detailed that it was difficult to read at times, but nevertheless, essential in understanding the extent of the what happened to her people.

Whether you read this book as fact or historical fiction, I think it is a good read for anyone interested in Latin American history, politcal science, peasant cultures, or human rights. It is a story that will stick in your mind... and your heart.

5 out of 5 stars Just 2 or so hours South of Miami! .......2006-01-11

It is incredible that such human suffering went on, and in many ways is still going on, just a couple of hours (by pane) away from where I live. Rigoberta Menchu's book, written as dictated by her, is sad and tells of horrible situations.

Guatemala is a beautiful country, the indigenous sill dress in their local garb, each unique to a particular village. Guatemala has been referred to as the most exotic country in the Western hemisphere.

A good friend of mine, a Guatemala Indian, told me about the efforts of the Indians to get help from the United States. They sought out various Native American tribes in the U.S., that to them was seeking help from America. From what he told, it never occured to the elders of the Guatemalan groups to approach anyone other than Native Americans. And they did not receive help, because help was not available. But had they approached the U.S. government, they most likely wouldn't have been helped either.

I have been in Guatemala so many times, I started to call it my second home. There is still a lot of oppression, and the indigenous still feel fearful of the police and the military. I have not been there in a couple of years and am yearning to return.

The last time, the police/military made great efforts to change their image. Instead of stopping trucks and harrassing the passengers, they handed out white carnations!

Menchu does not deal with the greatest problem that is keeping the indigenous in danger, that of language barrier. The Guatemala Indians speak over 20 local languages. The languages are so totally different, that communication is impossible. Though some books are written in the local languages, they cannot be read by the indigenous because they are illiterate. Division is a "great" tool to keep populations from binding together to fight a common evil. Spanish is the country's political language, but over 80% of the indigenous do not speak Spanish.

I have traveled into the villages, into the hills and mountains where customs as ancient as the peoples themselves still reign. All of them have experienced evil. Their story did not end with Menchu's book. It continues, and who knows how much longer it will continue.

An old adage says, "God created man in His own image and man has been returning the favor ever since." Philip Yancey realized that despite a lifetime attending Sunday school topped off by a Bible college education, he really had no idea who Jesus was. In fact, he found himself further and further removed from the person of Jesus, distracted instead by flannel-graph figures and intellectual inspection. He determined to use his journalistic talents to approach Jesus, in the context of time, within the framework of history.

In The Jesus I Never Knew, Yancey explores the life of Jesus, as he explains, "'from below,' to grasp as best I can what it must have been like to observe in person the extraordinary events unfolding in Galilee and Judea" as Jesus traveled and taught. Yancey examines three fundamental questions: who Jesus was, why he came, and what he left behind. Step by step, scene by scene, Yancey probes the culture into which Jesus was born and grew to adulthood; his character and mission; his teachings and miracles; his legacy--not just as history has told it, but as he himself intended it to be.

Yancey is not alone in his examination of the "real" Jesus. Publishing today is replete with writers committed to setting the story "straight, quot; joining countless others who, over the past 2,000 years, have determined to discover the truth about Jesus. But where others would deconstruct and discount, Yancey disarms and discloses. We become colleagues with him as he examines the accounts of the life of Jesus. And among the things that we discover is that Jesus himself leaves us few options: either he was who he said he was or he was nuts.

Philip Yancey was awarded the Gold Medallion Christian Book of the Year award for this book in 1996 by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. It's not the first, nor the last, award Yancey has won for his writing. But the writing is not necessarily the great gift of this book. Yancey allows the reader to discover, along with him, The Jesus I Never Knew. --Patricia Klein

Book Description

Philip Yancey reveals the real Jesus beyond the stereotypes, revolutionizing the reader’s passion for Christ, and offers a new and different perspective on the life of Christ and his work—his teachings, his miracles, his death and resurrection—and ultimately, who he was and why he came. Relating the gospel events to the world we live in today, The Jesus I Never Knew gives a moving and refreshing portrait of the central figure of history. Yancey looks at the radical words of this itinerant Jewish carpenter and asks whether we are taking him seriously enough.

One of the best books I've read in a long time! Puts Jesus in a whole new light...not a whimpy weak vulnerable man but our SAVIOR! our HERO! our SUPERMAN! I loved it and passed it on!

4 out of 5 stars The Jesus I never knew.......2007-07-20

Classic Yancy. He starts building a foundation and by the end he has you wishing there was more book. Analogies are outstanding and the insight into possible reasons for Jesus' actions are intriguing. This is the third book I have read by Phillip Yancy, and I really enjoy his expanded view he gives on a subject. I read this book after his title "What so amazing about Grace". I think Yancy has a deep understanding about the things of God. I would recommend this book to anyone. I also think it would be a great group study source.

A very interesting and different perspective on the life of Jesus that you don't get everyday. Very refreshing.

5 out of 5 stars Review from a non-religious person.......2007-06-05

After spending 8 years in Catholic School - my distain for religion and the Catholic Church has been a part of me my entire adult life. I found this book in a pile of books someone gave to me, and for reasons unknown to me, I picked it up and read it. This book made me cry. For the first time questions that where always with me were voiced and examined in an intelligent and non-judgmental way. I believe my heart is no longer hard to the possibility of Jesus. Today I plan on purchasing ten copies of this book to pass along to my friend and family - religious and non-religious alike. Also, at the age of 45, I'm going to read the bible for the first time with an open mind.

5 out of 5 stars LORD, I Want to Know You.......2007-10-05

An excellent book that helps us know God more deeply and intimately and to know exactly how He works in our lives. Kay Arthur takes us through all of the names for God and teaches what those names mean to us in this day in which we are living. She breaks the study up in small daily "doses". She is an exellent teacher and this book is more proof of that. I learned a lot from the book and I highly recommend it for anyone who desires to know God better.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent study guide.......2007-06-01

We are using this as a group study for a ladies' Sunday School class. The content and questions have profitable depth and insight.

5 out of 5 stars Great for group use.......2007-01-17

If your small group, Sunday school, or other group is looking for a great study that keeps you in God's Word and applies everything discussed to the real-world, this is a great book. I went through the study with a group of 7th and 8th graders and thoroughly enjoyed it. Packed with Scripture and great discussion questions, there should be no lull in the interaction among your group members. And what could be more beneficial than studying the names of God and delving into a deeper understanding of His character and attributes? Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Study.......2005-10-03

Great study---I have always enjoyed the teachings of Kay Arthur. Understanding many (but not all)of the facets of God, His names shows He cares for me in evey area of my life. In studying the Names of God, I can now pray and believe using specific names knowing that God is my salvation, peace, provider, healer........

2 out of 5 stars A disappointment.......2002-04-23

This book is a study of the names of God. However, I found some of the commentary and discussion points a stretch - discussing sexual abuse when studying the account of Hagar.

    Book Description

If you could send a letter back through time to your younger self, what would the letter say?

In this moving collection, forty-one famous women write letters to the women they once were, filled with advice and insights they wish they had had when they were younger.

Today show correspondent Ann Curry writes to herself as a rookie reporter in her first job, telling herself not to change so much to fit in, urging her young self, “It is time to be bold about who you really are.” Country music superstar Lee Ann Womack reflects on the stressed-out year spent recording her first album and encourages her younger self to enjoy the moment, not just the end result. “Your hair matters far, far less than you think,” is the wry advice that begins the letter bestselling mystery writer Lisa Scottoline pens to her twenty-year old self. And Maya Angelou, leaving home at seventeen with a newborn baby in her arms, assures herself she will succeed on her own, even if she does return home every now and then.

These remarkable women are joined by Madeleine Albright, Queen Noor of Jordan, Cokie Roberts, Naomi Wolf, Eileen Fisher, Jane Kaczmarek, Olympia Dukakis, Macy Gray, and many others. Their letters contain rare glimpses into the personal lives of extraordinary women and powerful wisdom that readers will treasure.

Wisdom from What I Know Now

“Don’t let anybody raise you. You’ve been raised.” –Maya Angelou

“Try more things. Cross more lines.” –Breena Clarke

“Learn how to celebrate.” –Olympia Dukakis

“You don’t have to be afraid of living alone.” –Eileen Fisher

“Please yourself first…everything else follows.” –Macy Gray

4 out of 5 stars thought provoking and worth a read - share with a young woman.......2007-01-20

The main review dissed two of my favorite stories in the book - Barbara Boxer and Eileen Fisher. Different strokes, I guess. This is a quick and easy read but I find myself still thinking about it and mentioning it to friends. After I get it back from the friend I loaned it to, I'm going to write my own "what I know now" and tuck it into the book, and then send it off to my teenage nieces.

If nothing else, it is good to be reminded that we do learn much about ourselves and others over time, and that for the most part, struggles that seem insurmountable are usually survivable. Even if it hurts.

    4 out of 5 stars A Guide for Self-Exploration.......2007-01-10

Most of us have wondered at some time in our lives, "what if....." Letters to My Younger Self provides insight into the lives of other women and offers the reader the opportunity to ask herself: What would I write to my "younger self"?

    3 out of 5 stars disappointing.......2006-12-24

A book full of fluff, nothing of substance...
a good book to have on the shelf but nothing else.

5 out of 5 stars Something to pass on!.......2006-06-04

I just Read Spragins amazing collection of letters and had to post this message about it. If you're looking for a meaningfull thought provoking gift this is it! This book will be cherished not just because it reveals the inner thoughts of some amazing people on our planet, but because it confirmations the inner voice in all of us that is often ignored.

This book is wonderful for young people who could use the sage advice of a mentor. It's great for people thinking about the changes they want to make in their life. It's also a good way to stimulate you to write your own letter.

After reading "Letters to My Younger Self" I wrote a letter to myself about what I wished I'd known 20 years ago. The experience was very helpfull. It allowed me to think about the past and contemplate the future in a way I hadn't before.

    5 out of 5 stars A Lesson in Reflection.......2006-05-12

I found this book as I was looking for a gift for my daughter's college graduation. The concept seemed incredible to me so I grabbed it up and brought it home. Reading the letters inpired me to write my own letter. I wrote a letter to myself 23 years before, pregnant with my daughter. The process of reflection was intense for me. I cried as I remembered the fears I had--the uncertainty. My sister called as I was writing this letter and the two of us went even farther back than 23 years. We remembered each other as children--when we were unable to communicate our fears. Our conversation helped our relationship and helped me to finish my letter to myself. In the end, my letter to me became my gift to my daughter. Without this book, all this reflection would be lost.

    5 out of 5 stars cliffs micro.......2007-07-31

I'm in a very fast paced micro class. Our class is only 5 weeks long and we get the same amount of info as a normal length term. This book is going to be a life saver! I'm so glad I got it. And spending the extra $1 to see it and print some pages out on line while waiting for it to come in was a huge help, too.

    1 out of 5 stars Horrible Product.......2005-11-30

These are great flashcards unless you actually want to learn and pass your microbiology class. Not only is the content poor, several of the cards in my pack were improperly printed with half the text cut off. No wonder they come sealed in plastic at the bookstore, if I had had the chance to look at them before I bought them i would have known better. They do work well for leveling a wobbly table though.

    5 out of 5 stars thank you.......2003-07-01

thank you for the fast delivery of the book.

    5 out of 5 stars Great reference.......2003-06-27

This book made medical microbiology much easier. I used this book for my medical microbiology class. It is easier to understand and it cut my study time because it was to the point. I also used the following:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (ISBN:0971999635)
The second book helped me prepare for the kind of questions on my medical microbiology tests. In fact, both these books helped me to get a 93 average in my medical microbiology class. I was recommended these two books from a friend of mine in another med school. He also got high grades on his medical microbiology exams.

1 out of 5 stars flash cards were disorganized and hard to read.......2002-06-28

Although others seemed to enjoy this method of learning, I found the cards disorganized and hard to use with repeated sections. I felt it was a waste of $. I still earned an A in Microbiology but found the "Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple" much more helpful. Best of luck!

5 out of 5 stars Great for quick studying .......2007-07-08

This book was a great help in addition to my text book in Biology. It helps to compact information so I was able to pick out only the facts. This is a great tool for people who are trying to CLEP their Biology.

    4 out of 5 stars Very helpful........2007-01-16

I used this book to help me prepare for the PRAXIS II content knowledge test in biology (it's one of those awful standardized tests). It was generally very good at covering all of the topics necessary in a concise and easy-to-understand manner. There were occasions when I was less impressed by the way in which a topic was explained or laid out, but it is definitely a good supplement or review for someone who has other sources for learning or re-learning the material. (My main gripe was with photosynthesis.) But for a 200 page book on the vast topic of biology, it certainly did its job, and helped me pass my test.

    3 out of 5 stars good .......2005-09-02

4 out of 5 stars Adolescent Portraits: Identity, Relationships and Challenges.......2004-04-19

Adolescent Portraits: Identity, Relationships, and Challenges, written by Garrod, Smulyan, Powers, and Kilkenny (2000), is a collection of personal stories written by college students. The stories consist of the students' recollections of events that occurred during their adolescent years. This book provides much insight into the development of adolescents, while it also aides in the understanding and development of current theories. The case studies collected by the authors are excellent tools for gaining insight into the mind of the adolescent. The authors of the case studies not only narrate events from their past, but also provide personal perspectives as to why they reacted in certain ways and held particular concerns during their adolescent years.
"The way in which we view adolescence depends, to a large extent, on our perceptions of human nature and the relationship of the individual to society" (Garrod et al., 2000, p. 1). Current theories are independently and personally based on such perspectives. Before the authors present the adolescents' case studies, they discuss the various contributors to current adolescent theory. These contributors include theorists such as Locke, Rousseau, Hall, and Mead. By presenting the case studies, the authors show these theories at work.
The case studies are divided into three sections: "Identity," "Relationships," and "Challenges." The first section, "Identity," involves Erikson's Psychosocial Developmental Theory, particularly the stage of "identity verses role confusion." Believed by Erikson to be the dominating challenge during the adolescent years, this stage is characterized by the need to establish one's individuality in the world. According to his theory, it is only after this stage is completed that the individual is ready to develop intimate relationships with others.
In the following section, "Relationships," Erikson's belief of obtaining intimacy only by first successfully achieving personal identity is disputed. Many theorists believe that intimacy may actually be a source of achieving one's personal identity. For example, Sullivan believed that the development of intimacy may be related to relationships with best-friends. It is in these types of relationships that individuals are able to experience, first-hand, how various roles and attitudes are viewed by others. Other types of relationships one might encounter during his or her adolescent years "include close friendships, cliques, peer groups and crowds, and romantic relationships" (p. 132). Furthermore, psychoanalytic theorists such as Anna Freud and Blos believe that adolescence is a critical time of separation from one's parents. Even so, theories maintain that adolescents have a need to preserve a close, meaningful relationship with their families of origin. The case studies that are seen in this section concentrate on the importance of the development and continuity of relationships throughout the adolescent years.
In the final section, "Challenges," the authors present a collection of cases about adolescents who are caught up in various challenges that appear quite difficult to overcome. It is in this section that the authors present the phenomenon of adolescents who grow up in extremely difficult, if not tragic, situations, yet still develop into healthy, successful adults. The challenges presented in this section are "(1) a severe stutter and serious sexual abuse in early childhood, (2) the emotional crisis surrounding an abortion in adolescence, (3) a journey from war refugee to immigrant to the United States and gradual acculturation, and (4) a family breaking apart under the stresses of immigration to the United States and the mental illness of a parent" (Garrod et al., 2000, pp. 249-250).
One might wonder how the adolescents described in the preceding paragraph might manage to live through such tragedy, yet still develop into "normal," healthy adults. According to the authors, "self-understanding is one of the more important aspects of emerging adolescent abilities for overcoming serious challenges" (Garrod et al., 2000, p. 250). It is only with this self-understanding that one might be able to live through such atrocities, yet still continue with healthy physical, emotional, and psychological development.
Though it must be considered that the sample of individuals who wrote the case studies seen in Adolescent Portraits: Identity, Relationships, and Challenges may have higher than average academic markings, it may be understood that it is a fairly average sample. Therefore, the cases presented may be assumed to be typical of "normal" adolescent development. With this assumption, the case studies allow for further development of the theoretical perspectives which are already presented. Furthermore, the case studies leave room for personal evaluation and introspection, both of which may lead to a better understanding of current theories as well as the development of personal theories.

5 out of 5 stars Adolescent portraits: Identity, relationships, and challenge.......2000-06-13

I think that these case studies are a wonderful insight to the work done by the authors Kudos!

A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word. What began as a number of consecutive articles angled for "honest, no-nonsense readers who were fed up with facile Christian verbiage" in 1973, Knowing God has become a contemporary classic by creating "small studies out of great subjects." Each chapter is so specific in focus (covering topics such as the trinity, election, God's wrath, and God's sovereignty), that each succeeding chapter's theology seems to rival the next, until one's mind is so expanded that one's entire view of God has changed. Author Elizabeth Eliot wrote that amid the lofty content Packer "puts the hay where the sheep can reach it--plainly shows us ordinary folks what it means to know God." Having rescued us from the individual hunches of our ultra-tolerant theological age, Packer points the reader to the true character of God with his theological competence and compassionate heart. The lazy and faint-hearted should be warned about this timeless work--God is magnified, the sinner is humbled, and the saint encouraged. --Jill Heatherly

This is a fantastic book full of wisdom and knowledge. Packer knows how to make it easily absorbed by anyone wishing to truly know more aboutt our living God.

3 out of 5 stars Knowing Calvinism is a better title and description.......2007-06-01

Its difficult (and perhaps arrogant) for me to write a poor review against a scholar as renowned as J. I. Packer and a book as popular as this one. This book is endorsed by many heroes of the faith, such as Jack Hayford and Elisabeth Elliot, which even gives me greater pause. However, if the goal of the book was to learn how to know God better, it was, for me, a failure. Certainly I know Packer's theology better. I also know much more about the bible and Calvinist doctrine. Readers will certainly know more `about God' but this is not the same thing as "Knowing God," not by a mile.

Dr. Packer takes swipes at Arminians and many others who differ with Calvinism. This book follows hyper-Calvinism in the sense of God's sovereignty, where even murder and evil things are ultimately God's will. If you are a Calvinist in the dispensationalist and evangelical stream then this book is for you. A better author in that stream, perhaps would be Millard Erickson's, especially his book "Introducing Christian Doctrine." There at least multiple views are given a fair hearing.

"Knowing God" is a great read, that is it puts theology in a readable form instead of the dry cerebral academic tone of many books. Remember however, it is theology: the bible interpreted and presented through a particular view point, not necessarily knowing God or His reality. As Philip Yancey has written, the book of our `unknowing' is far larger than our `knowing.' Unfortunately most theologians with their `biblical systems' don't believe that.

    4 out of 5 stars Profoundly Scriptural.......2007-03-09

The best book I know of this author. Packer explains several biblical key-words. Gods love, grace, majesty, wrath, jealousy, goodness and severity come to life! And yet this is not a book for only intellectuals. The message is warm and impressive.

5 out of 5 stars Knowing God reveals that knowing God is but a pursuit away.......2007-02-14

Packer's deep understanding of Scripture and ability to slowly bring his many concepts and points regarding the manifestations of God in our daily lives into the forefront of our minds is simply classic.

Though the book may seem a bit "textbooky" at first, Packer's work is very well written and only appears heavy because of the deep, weighty content that almost requires the reader to take a breath to let it soak all in.

Arguably the best book written in the late 20th century, Packer paved the way for other contemporary classics.

If you want to know God, as the title indicates, this book can and will help.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-01-04

I believe this will be very helpful for Christian People to understand who God is through the life.

5 out of 5 stars An Incredible Thought Provoker.......2007-01-04

I have spent a fairly large part of a long life in Sunday School,
church,Bible Classes, college courses, and daily reading of the Bible and myriad magazine, tracts etc. But never have I experienced a deeper mind shaking treatise on faith and understanding of what Jesus was doing and intended while he taught his disciples and listeners/observers during his time on earth as described in the 4 gospels. My understanding of passages I never could comprehend before is wonderfully satisfying and truly exhilerating. I haven't stopped thinking about it, and doubt I ever will.

5 out of 5 stars Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide.......2005-08-02

The study guide is an excellent resource for anyone facilitating small group discussion on Yancey's book. The suggestions for how to enhance the discussion are doable, and a variety of options are presented. The study guide is well worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars Food for thought.......2005-07-03

Yancey does a good job about allowing us to paint a picture of Jesus in our eyes, and not that of Hollywood. Too often we draw conclusions based upon an image that is handed to us through advertising or visual media. The book takes you through 14 different lessons that help you experience Jesus. Afterall, being a Christian is not about the church, not about hype, not about anything else but your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

    5 out of 5 stars A Child Called Jesus.......2004-05-23

Decades ago when George Lucas presented STAR WARS for the first time, certain movie reviewers criticized it for its "silliness" and that "it would be easily forgotten." How wrong they were, and how embarrassed they now must be.

Variety has criticized films that are ahead of their time. Take for example the TV movie A CHILD CALLED JESUS, starring Matteo Bellina. Variety complains about long shots, excessive makeup, amateur sets, unrealistic dialogue and unsynchronized dubbing.

But many people who have seen this film have praised it for its uniqueness compared to other Jesus films. Just visit www.imdb.com for reviews about this film. If you watch it, you will be mesmerized by the long shots; you will see that the makeup is NOT excessive (the actors have very natural skin tones compared to Cecil B. de Mille actors); you will observe that the sets are as natural as they should be in a Middle Eastern country; you will appreciate the dialogue as the words would personally touch you; you will tolerate the dubbing because this isn't even the fault of the filmmakers.

I am glad that this book is recommending the watching of this film to help readers understand the Jesus they never knew. Although it may seem that some parts are apocryphal, they do not necessarily go against the Gospels. These unbiblical scenes "could have happened" -- for didn't the evangelist John say that Jesus did so many things that they couldn't be fit into the Gospels?
