love it.......2007-09-27
this book is great. i'm in vet school and it describes everything perfectly and is very easy to understand.
Excellent Resource!.......2007-03-21
This book gives all the information you will need about each drug, it's approved use, approved dosages, and different forms for each species.
A "must have" resource for any serious breeder!
Excellent quality, excellent service.......2007-03-20
The book I received was in mint condition and 1/2 off the "new" cover price! It arrived in a timely manner and I've made great use of it.
I will absolutely order from this vendor again!
Review of Plumb's Veterinary Handbook.......2007-03-09
This is a very detailed text on medicines used in many different animal species, and so is a very useful reference when working with unfamiliar medicines or unfamiliar species.
Very informative.......2007-02-19
This book breaks down hundreds of drugs so that you understand what they are, how they are used, what dosages, etc. Most every drug you can think of is in here. Each medication has at least one full page dedicated to it. The only drawback I have seen is that some of the drugs have secondary effects, and have been used specifically for those effects, but that is completely overlooked. All in all, if you want to delve deeper into what you are giving your animals, or want to know more about what you should be giving your animals, this is the book for you. I also highly reccomend the Merck Veterinary handbook as these two work very well together.

Book Description
This new, thoroughly updated edition of a popular formulary includes current drugs and veterinary practices. The practical format is exceptionally concise, portable, and easy to use, and offers readers immediate access to essential information on therapies for dogs, cats, horses, ruminant species, pigs, birds, rodents, rabbits, ferrets, and reptiles. Drugs are logically organized by practice: Small, large, and exotic species. Each section begins with a table of dosages and is followed by alphabetically organized entries of commonly prescribed medications. Entries include the generic drug name (and U.S. and Canadian trade names, as appropriate), indications, routes of administration, adverse and common side effects, drug interactions, formulations, and additional drug uses. Dosage conversion tables and formulas are easy to find and use. An easy-scan index speeds readers from drug generic or brand name to complete entries.http://www.skyscape.com/p.asp?I=33394-01-1p1173
Customer Reviews:
Excellent veterinary companion book.......2003-05-06
This drug book is organized extremely well for easy use. You can obtain dosaging information quicker than other veterinary drug books with a convenient formulary in the front of each section. It is nice that the doses are separated for large animal vs small animal. The only drawback of this book lies in the drug descriptions in that they are not complete. The specific drug descriptions will provide a general idea of the drug's uses and major side effects and available sizes, but not some of the more comprehensive information that is sometimes necessary.
Great Drug Guide.......2000-11-22
This book contains three sections; small animals, large animals and exotics, with each section being split into drug dosages, antimicrobials/anthelmintics and descriptions of drugs.
Each sub-section is alphabetically ordered making it quick and easy to find whatever drug you are looking for, and there is a comprehensive index in the back containing both generic and trade names as well as some diseases and therapies! The down side of this is that the trade names relate to Canada and USA so some of the British drugs aren't listed by trade name. I haven't found this to be too much of a problem, but sometimes it is difficult to find drugs if you only know the trade name.
I found the drug dosages sections very useful as not only does it give the dose but also it gives the different doses for different indications and administration routes. I especially liked the exotics section since it gives you detailed information on rodents, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles and birds; subjects on which data is usually difficult to come by.
The size of the book makes it very handy to keep in your bag for reference during lectures and it is small enough to fit in your pocket when on clinics.
This book provides the usefulness of a formulary and the convenience of dosage charts, all combined into one pocket-sized handbook. It has been a great aid to my studies and I highly recommend it to vet students on either side of the Atlantic.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderfully Informative!!!!.......2007-06-17
I've had this book for a couple of years and it has truly saved the day!! I find it most useful for OTC medications for my pets. Sometime the vet is not available and I don't want my pets to be uncomfortable while waiting for the doctor. So, I give them OTC meds and know that I have not given them a thing that can harm them. Also, dosage being so important, I am assured that they are not being overmedicated (which can make them worse or even kill them.) I have such faith in this publication that I sent one to several relatives and friends for their animals safety. Doesn't get a much better recommendation than that!!
Great source of information.......2007-06-08
Up to date and informative. Being a rescuer I see my fair share of the Vet's office. New medications always get a once over to check for signs of allergic reactions. This book is a great source. It also helped once when a friend's dog snatched a pill. While waiting for Animal Poison Control I was able to let her know the dog was not in trouble. Every rescuer, breeder and exhibitor should have a copy. The average owner may not need it unless they make a lot of vet visits for medications.

A Great Idea that is very outdated.......2007-03-21
I have used and recommended the human version of this book to patients and feel that it is VERY Useful. Jumped at getting the pet version as soon as I ran into it. The concept is great with this version also but, with a copyright date of 1998 it is VERY BEHIND the times and many of the things were not listed or, as someone else pointed out--poorly indexed and hard to retrieve.
Good idea but not current enough or indexed well enough. A new version would be a gold mine.
For anyone who loves animals.......2007-01-04
Great resource for any animal owner! This book covers all presciptions plus common OTC medications. Just gives you peace of mind before popping that pill in your animals mouth!
Must Have Book for the Serious Pet Owner.......2006-11-10
Doctors, whether for humans or for pets, often neglect to tell us the possible side effects of the medications they have prescribed. This book is a detailed pill book guide that can really help you through some rough spots with your babies. Knowing your pet may have an upset stomach or become lethargic from certain drugs can really help a pet owner to NOT panic. This book is detailed and complete and has helped our 16 rescued pets immensely!

A Book.......2007-02-17
Though this is a good book, I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't required by the class I am taking. It doesn't really explain much, and I assume that is because they assume it is just a refresher.
Needed the refresher..........2003-07-06
Love the examples in this book. They are very "real world" and usefull. I used it to refresh my math skills.
Book Description
The Veterinary Drug Handbook: Client Information Edition helps veterinarians and pharmacists bridge the drug information gap between themselves and the people (clients; owners) who are treating their animals. Several studies have demonstrated that people receiving verbal information from health professionals retain very little of that information once they leave the premises of their health provider. The information provided in this book will supplement the actual care provided and help in the task at hand, namely to improve the health of animals. The authors have included drugs that are commonly prescribed by small animal and equine practitioners, both those that are veterinary and "human " labeled medications.
Customer Reviews:
Poor quality software.......2006-09-04
I love the text book! It's one of the most useful texts in my library. I even had the 1995 CD-Rom version for my practice, and it was indispensible while on house calls. But the 2005 edition sucks. It won't work on my Mac (although the disk case says it should), uses a windows-only proprietary format that won't even search properly, has non-standard user controls, useless help files, and is basically unusable. Steer clear of this CD version and just buy the book.
Plumb Rocks!!.......2006-04-15
When it comes to veterinary drugs, this book is the bible. Does get technical in some places, but it gives you everything- interactions, and other tidbits of pertinent information. This is the first place I look to for drug info- all of our vets use it daily as well- the cover is beyond shredded! Alphabetical and in some cases both common and trade names. What more can you ask for?
My veterinarian said this is the best book she uses!.......2004-01-19
I do cat rescue and needed a detailed reference book on veterinary medications. I asked my veterinarian what book she recommended and she said that this was the best book by far. She prefers it over other medical textbooks that costs hundrends of dollars. I purchased this book and use it all the time now. It has helped me resolve medication related questions in emergency situations. This book has more than paid for itself in the $$ is has saved me in veterinary bills. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs access to information on veterinary medications, especially when it's a night or weekend and I cannot contact my veterinarian. This is a must have book for anyone who works with animals.
Best drug handbook on the market!.......2003-01-25
I've had every edition of this drug handbook for about 10 years now, and I use it often. I've seen lots of "other" veterinary drug handbooks, but they pale in comparison to Plumb's. There's just the right amount of information here--not too much, not too little. Other handbooks seem relatively lacking in content.
Don't practice without it........2002-12-03
This is the only book that I have that I use every single day!
