Book Description
Written in a clear, straightforward style, LIFE-SPAN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT provides the comprehensive coverage that you need to do well in this course. Each chapter focuses on a domain of development (such as physical growth, cognition, or personality) and includes information on four life stages: Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, and Adulthood. Features included throughout the text help you chunk material into manageable portions, master the skills required to understand research data, and understand the processes of transformation that occur in key areas of human development.
Customer Reviews:
Life-Span Human Development.......2004-07-17
I found the layout of this book very interesting in that it took a portion of the life-span and brought you from infancy to old age. In this way, the natural progression of life could be viewed for each topic. The alternative would be to start with infancy, then go to childhood, adolescence, etc. With the approach of this book, I found tracking each topie, e.g., "Perception," more interesting.
Tired Read.......2003-09-28
Very dry read. Complicated and confusing order of addressing topics. Reading for my developmental psych class felt like a chore with this book.
Choppy, and incredibly dry.......2001-05-01
I used this book with a human development course at my university, and it was less than adequate for the job. The book is incredibly bland, and while it goes through the life span in order, it seems to jump around from different people's theories too much. Better if all of Piaget's ideas were presented together for a certain topic, etc.. On top of that, I believe that the method of citing the sources, while it works for research papers, seemed out of place in this setting. Numbered footnotes would have worked better. The method of citation used made it seem choppy, as all of a sudden you'd see a last name and a year in the middle of the text. This could be done more effectively, because the current method definitely broke up the text significantly. Hopefully, some of these changes will be implemented in a future edition.

Excellent product condition! No problems with seller - very straightforward purchase and will buy again!!
Decent, but had a lot of fluff.......2007-08-29
For me this book was required for a class. I guess it wasn't bad but I felt like I had to pick through all their example stories to find any of the real content. So much was case studies of one child or another. And most of the case studies were in themselves mostly fluff.
Packed with usefull information.......2007-02-18
I found this book very engaging, the topics were interesting and the graphics were very appropriate. I really liked how every other page had an interesting question that you could apply to everyday life and you got the answer in 2 pages. I would skip ahead to find out the answer. But after my developmental psychology class was over i wanted to keep this book. i love it.

Customer Reviews:
Not that helpful.......2007-03-08
This book really didnt help me get through Life Span Development any faster. It's basically just a list of all the important terms in the book. Great if you only need to know the vocab but not good if you need to understand the context in which those words are used. The other probelm is that the words arent even in the same order as they come up in the book. All and all not a very helpful product.
This is Cram 101, not the book.......2007-02-02
Amazon is still making the same mistake. This item is advertised as "Life-Span Development (Paperback) 9th Edition Santrock" but it really is Cram 101 Textbook Outlines. No wonder people make this mistake! It should be clearly labeled to not confuse it with the textbook.
I haven't yet decided whether or not to keep it.
Wrong Book.......2006-11-10
The book I purchased was supposed to be the textbook Life-Span Development. Instead I got a sort of 'Cliff Notes', outlined version of the textbook. I called and spoke to a customer service rep and she said that the ISBN of my order should have been a textbook and that the listing was somehow mixed up. I kept the book even though it was not what I had originally believed I purchased. I hope the mix-up has been remedied for future buyers.
TOO WORDY, NEEDS to be MORE CONCISE.......2006-02-26
this book has good information but not much of an attention getter at all, needs to be straight to the point and have pics or charts that will be detailed but grabs you attention! It is an okay book over all but not so great when comes to actually studying for an exam...
Excellent Service.......2006-01-14
I was very impressed with how quickly I received my book. It was in great condition. I would definately order from him again.

not necessary.......2007-09-22
I feel that this book is completely unnecessary for the course. Review tests must be ordered on the internet and they are $9.95. I would never recommend this book to cram for the course.
VERY INFORMATIVE.......2007-07-06
I USED THIS BOOK FOR AN ONLINE COURSE AND I FOUND IT VEY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE.I LIKED THE WAY IT HAS THE CHAPTER REVIEWS AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER SO YOU CAN LOOK BACK ON WHAT YOU READ AND PULL OUT THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS.
Dev across Lifespan.......2007-02-21
This book is an outline of the book that I wanted. Not what I thought I ordered.
scamming.......2007-02-06
this was not the isbn book that i ordered. thank you for being so miss leading. i am heading to iraq and will have to drop my course thanks to you shipping me a useless study guide.
Misleading.......2006-11-06
The description is wholly misleading. This is nothing but a cram 101 book, and said that NO WHERE on the page when I purchased it. Thanks to that, I had to spend that money AND an additional $120 in the campus book store to get the actual book.
Thanks Amazon, you screwed me over.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
Reviewers and adopters have praised John Santrock’s A Topical Approach to Life-Span Development text for its themes of research, applications, and contexts, and students have loved it for its pedagogy and accessible writing. Building on these strengths, the third edition features more than 2,100 citations from the 21st century and new "Careers in Life-Span Development" boxes.
Customer Reviews:
it's a textbook.......2007-03-30
Okay, this is a textbook for a lower-level course in psychology of human development. It is pretty simplistic, I think. I wouldn't buy it unless it was assigned to me in a class or I was writing TV screen play and need some names and vocabulary to stick in a character's mouth.
Not What It Claims To Be!.......2007-01-03
I thought I was buying a paperback edition of the book. Instead, I received an outline (just words with the definitions)of the book with space to write in. Had I known it WAS NOT the ACTUAL BOOK, I never would have bought it. I needed this book and now won't have it in time for class. Change the title to reflect what it actually is, not the textbook. Once you receive it, the outside cover says textbook not included. Truely a waste of my time and money.
interesting book.......2006-04-01
I bought this at Amazon.com from an Awesome Deal I found on DailyTool.com. I enjoyed reading the book and it helped me get through the summer class.
Life Span Development.......2006-03-18
I was very happy with this book. It's nice and has a wealth of information. It's also a great buy for the price compared to buying it at the bookstore.
Succeeds in coverage, fails in objectivity.......2004-07-08
I enjoyed the readings for most chapters in this text. The information is generally well-presented and nicely segmented for quick reading. The author incorporates the little asides (mini research articles) to break things up and add some flavor and interest at different points in the book, which I also appreciated.
Unfortunately, the chapter on Intelligence is a train wreck. It's fine and expected to mention Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, but the author couches that theory as the intelligence theory of choice for psychologists. His fawning over Gardner's theory is irresponsible given the total lack of empirical support. Then the author proceeds to rake Jensen over the coals, despite the fact that Jensen's research is extensive and well-supported. The author, at times without citations, directs the student to ridiculous conclusions about intelligence research. For example, he downplays the importance of heritability in intelligence and states a hyperbolic case for the effects of environment. Being very familiar with the intelligence research, I was surprised, but shouldn't have been, that someone could selectively choose to ignore what the vast body of data shows. I can only hope that most grad students will look beyond this treatment of the subject of intelligence for something more substantial and less partisan.

This book is just a glossary of terms.......2007-07-12
When I ordered this review book, I was expecting an outline of important facts from each chapter. However, all the book turned out to be was a glossary of bolded terms. The right side of every page has lines to write your own notes, if you like doing that. But the description that is on Amazon is definitely off-putting. In no way will this "review book" help you alone. You'd be better off saving the $13 by using the glossary in the actual text book.

As an early childhood teacher, I use this book as a carry over from my university days. It covers the main issues, theories, and primary literature with relative simplicity allowing you to escape getting overwhelmed by too much techy language...but get more texts. Buying this one book will not suffice in the classroom.
Buyer Beware.......2003-07-10
This is a study guide that is 100% worthless unless you are using it with the associated text book. Don't buy it as a stand-alone work. It doesn't even have an index.
Instead check out "Lifespan Human Development" by Gormly and Brodzinsky instead. It has a high Amazon rating and it seems well written, concise, and on topic.
I was also very happy with the vendor, College Book Service. They let me upgrade the shipping on my order so it would arrive sooner,...
Human development A Life-Span Approach.......2003-06-18
This book is a big help in getting the basics. I really want to comment on the seller-College Book Service- they had the book here in 4 days. I was happy!
A comprehensive study of human growth and development.......1998-12-05
This book provides an excellent, detailed look at human growth and development from birth through death, detailing theory, history, and up-to-date concepts in the field. Current issues in human development are also discussed. An excellent resource for teachers and other professionals!
