Customer Reviews:
Ok.......2007-05-31
Again Barrons keeps to its style of writing review books that are somewhat more difficult than the actual test. Overall I think they have a good book here. Unfortunately there are some noticeable typos, wrong answers in practice exams and that sort of thing. However if you are decent, they won't be a problem and you'll benefit from the 4 practice exams in the book.

good practice.......2007-06-26
This book was pretty good prep. It did a good job of covering all the topics on the test, though I did have to reference the internet/ my chem textbook on several topics the book didn't cover in depth. The practice tests were fairly similar in difficulty to the actual one. Overall, my money was well spent, and it helped me to do well.

Customer Reviews:
The most helpful chem SAT II book out there.......2006-06-27
THis book really lays out the info in an easily understandable and organized way. It focuses on just the stuff you need to know and doesn't overwhelm you. The practice exams are great and really accurate. I read the book cover to cover like 3 times, did all the practice exams, and got a 780!!
A Collection of Falsehoods.......2006-05-29
This book is not so much a chemistry review book as a beguiling, deceitful encounter with incompetence. Having read only two-thirds of the so-called review section, I discovered numerous serious errors. Some of these errors include claims that mass is measured in g/mL (p. 45) and that CO2(g) has molecules that are arranged in a regular geometric pattern (p. 57). Additionally, there were misleading statements and diagrams regarding bonds between and within water molecules (p. 85-87), inconsistent values in equations (e.g., p. 108 and 118), and discrepencies between descriptions and diagrams (e.g. p. 124). These more serious errors are in addition to other trivial typos that I discovered. Of course, it is possible that other important errors have escaped my notice, or exist in the chapters that I did not see fit to read. The author and publishing house ought to be ashamed of themselves. Though I was fortunate enough to realize the terrible unsuitability of this rubbish, I tremble for those who were not, and are about to embark on the daunting journey through the SAT II. When one reads this book, one is tempted to convert potential energy into kinetic energy--that is, to throw the book down in disgust.
Good Book (like McGraw's SAT I book), be wary of other reviews.......2006-03-11
Like most McGraw test prep books, it is good quality and better than Princeton Review/Kaplan who I swear copy and paste those same "test taking" tricks from one book to another. Once you've read one, it's time to move on. But has anyone noticed that ALL of the other previous reviews are from NEW YORK. Moreover, most of them are only two sentences long, possibly indicating that someone decided to ensure this book had good reviews. If that's the case, that is really horrible because Amazon.com's reviews are generally pretty reliable unless they're reviews on a politically hot and polarized issue. Doing stuff like that is really demeaning to Amazon.com and its patrons.
If you plan on passing the chemistry SAT II, buy this book.......2005-12-22
This was the best investment I ever made in buying a book to help me study for an important test such as the SAT II. This book goes step by step through the vast world of chemistry and condenses the material into simple concepts. Not only that but Thomas A. Evangelist makes several analogies to everyday life that allow for a more thorough understanding of chemistry on the whole. It also includes great pictures and actual SAT II exams for more practice. This is a great book for chemistry and a fantastic guide for preparing for the SAT II's
All Hail Evangelist!!.......2005-12-12
2005 Book of the Year: Sat II Chemistry by Thomas A. Evangelist!! Mr. Evangelist is my chemistry teacher, and ever since I bought his book, I found all the questions and answers on the tests!! My Grades has dramatically improved!from 80's to 100's! I am very grateful for this book, chemistry could not have been easier.

Good.......2007-07-01
THe practice tests is what really made this book great. They were a little easier than the real thing, but are helpful. The review is very good, showing that you only need a broad knowledge for the test. If you are taking a regents exam (NY) then this book is helpful because it does not use reference tables, forcing you to actually know the tings you do. They did a good job.
Great for a quick review.......2006-12-28
This book is good to get in September to summarize topics learned in class or to study from in May or June for an SAT II. If you are looking for a book that will OVER prepare you, the consensus is Barrons. I have both and I can tell you that Barrons is thorough where Princeton Review is brief. My friends last year used this book and did very well (think 700+) so it isn't dooming you to fail. I used Princeton Review for biology last year, and I must say it is pretty good at showing you the types of questions and how things are asked. In conclusion, Princeton Review is good for a crammer with two months or less, or as a quick way to get main ideas.
Buy it it rocks!.......2006-09-10
Getting a 700+ on the SAT2 requires more than just a review book, it requires study. This book is a great help if you learn the material, and take the practice tests. You go in feeling prepared and knowing how to manage your time. No magic bullets, just good preparation and practice with this book works miracles. The book doesnt teach you chemistry- it teaches you college board chemistry- all its going to teach you is how to put what your teacher said into SAT format and get the right answers- it works! ( i got a 710 !!!)
SAT Chemistry.......2006-08-05
This book is thorough and detailed. You can go at your pace and go back over anything you don't understand, as many times as you like. It even has techniques to help you learn to associate concepts. I give this book 4 stars because it has really helped me so far, but there's always room for improvement.
NOT too easy.......2006-07-09
I don't know why people are saying the practice tests are too easy - I never got above a 740 on the practice tests, but I got a 770 on the actual test.

Great way to prepare.......2006-08-07
This book is a great way to prep for the test. The practice questions are challening and the answer explanations are clear. I'd recommend this book to anyone studying for the test.
HORRIBLE.......2006-05-06
The subject review is okay, but the practice tests are flawed and the answer keys are wrong! Also, the score conversion tables are inncorrect and include impossible raw scores. There are only 85 questions, but somehow the table is out of 90. DO NOT buy this product.

Customer Reviews:
TERRIBLE!!!.......2006-05-31
Wow... I was relunctant to write a review for this book, but its atrocities was too overwhelming to ignore. I would NOT recommend this book. Buy Barron's, it's harder, but prepares you much better. This book is just filled with too many errors. First off, some of the multiple choice answers don't match with the explanation. Such as this one problem on page. 83 where the explanation says the answer is A, yet the answer they give you on top is B. Other problems abound when they try to explain simple things such as Electron Affinity. I don't know what kind of explanation they attempt to give but whatever it is, it is far off from what I've learned in my Chemistry AP class and from what my teacher has taught (Also different from the Princenton Review Explanation). I would NOT recommend this book. If you do buy this book. God Bless you when you take the test.

Customer Reviews:
OMG OMG THANK YOU FOR THE 800.......2007-09-13
i was an average student in a non-honors chemistry class, who barely got a 90. however, thanks to this book, i received an 800 on the sat ii chemistry test! when i found out, i was extremely happy but not too surprised because on test day, i was able to answer every question effortlessly. i couldn't believe how easily i was able to go through the test. it was amazing how i knew exactly how to answer every question. i left the test center feeling sure that i would get at least a 780 on the test and i did!
i purchased both the princeton review and barrons books but neither can measure up to the kaplan book. the review is perfect; it contained just the right amount of information and was easy to follow, except it lacked the two sections on descriptive chemistry and experimentation. simply read the barron's for those. i also advise you to take the practice tests in the barrons book because they are much harder than the real test.
overall, this book is EXCELLENT!
superb!!.......2004-10-11
This is overally is excellent. Every chapter covers the concepts which you need on the SAT II examination. The depth is actually much deeper, compared with the Baron's and Princeton Review. If one wants a in depth review on the chemistry, this book is for him. After finishing this book(I mean really really understand every conception shown on the book), one is not only well prepared for the SATII chemistry test, but also well equiped for a undergraduate chemistry study. However, I recommend everyone who is using this book also use the baron's because this book is hard enough to confuse anyone by its simple appearance and lack of calculation practice.
Ok but unorganized.......2004-07-19
The Kaplan book is quite comprehensive but the lack of diagrams and the disorganized state of the book can make this a boring read. It goes over a lot of useless info that may be confusing and the text may lose you in some parts. If you have a lot of self motivation and patience, this book may work out for you. Be sure to read up on Barrons because it is quite a bit more user friendly and is organized more like a high school chemistry book which is much more familiar to most students.
Excellent Preparation.......2004-07-19
The Kaplan SAT II Chemistry book provides excellent preparation for the exam. The extensive information covered details almost everthing that you could possibly want to know for this exam. However, there are several useless pieces of information in this book. The equilibrium equations with natural logs, etc. are all extra useless stuff. Also the extra material for atomic orbitals is not on the SAT II. No one will ask you about the specific name of quantum numbers. This extra stuff means that they didn't put in enough descriptive chemistry review and experimentation, hence only 4 stars. Not perfect, but if you buy either Chemistry the Easy way or the other Barrons SAT II book and read up on the two great chapters on experiments and descriptive chemistry you're all set. I recommend buying the REA book as well for the practice. Nothing improves your score as much as practice.
Got me a 800!!.......2004-01-19
I used this book in conjunction w/ Barron's and Princeton Review and I got an 800, mostly thanx to this book. Barron's was too detailed, but good for reference and practice tests. Princeton review was 2 broad.
Average customer rating:
- Utterly confusing (and I still got an 800)
- Okay..not great
- good review book
- Ok, but not spectacular

Utterly confusing (and I still got an 800).......2006-10-11
This book presents topics in a wierd order or something, because I couldn't understand it. So I gave up on it and only used it for it's practice tests which were easy.
Okay..not great.......2006-07-05
Kaplan is notoriously famous for its mistakes, and here they are again. However, Kaplan does a fair job on summarizing the information concisely. It even has some shortcuts in doing some of the calculations. However, there are many mistakes on the practice tests. After initial comparing of your answers to the books, your heart skips a couple of beats to find that you missed many problems (my experience), but not so! If you actually look at the answer explanations, when the correct answer is C, it would say some other answer although the explanation would clearly lead to that answer C. In a way it may discourage some students knowing that Kaplans is easier than the real test. I recommend this book for some extra tips a dilligent student may need, but not for its practice tests
good review book.......2006-03-21
There are enough information to review the things you have already knew or the things you do not learn yet.
Ok, but not spectacular.......2006-01-18
The notes are short and concise and contain everything you need to know (and perhaps a little extra stuff) for the test. However in my opinion the practice tests were not really like the real thing. There is a lack of questions on laboratory and descriptive chemistry, of which quite a lot of questions come out in the real test. Use this with a chemistry textbook to get best results.
A GREAT book for anyone.......2005-12-18
Even though I'm just up to the second chapter of the Chemistry Review, I'm already enjoying this book very much. I would highly recommend it to anyone (and I doubt you will regret it) to prep for the SAT II Chemistry. It is thorough and concise (as long as you have been paying attention in class, the review is excellent), with no extra useless information (as I found last year when I read Barrons Biology book). Here's from my past experience: Kaplan for biology, chemistry, physics, Barrons for SAT, AP Statistics.
