5 out of 5 stars Best energy book for beginners i've ever encountered.......2007-09-10

If you want to start learning about energy throughout history, and understand how it all started and especially why new age vibrational healing is rising up like a motherf... hammer killing all them damn classic doctors who want to keep you drugged up so you will shut up and stop complaining about pain. Get this book right now!

It will provide you with wisdow that will change your point of view when we're talkin about (vibrational) healing, illness and where we get our energy from, concerning the information we have about CRYSTALS!!!! just a second there, isn't practically everything a vibration!! ha, think about that!!! verrryyy interesting! It's subject is focused on the 'Brain' like the doctor said, thinking: tssss all your bloody problems, but saying: madame/sir it's all between your ears. So this is a good book to start helping yourself without any doubt that the material is wrong, cause their mostly facts presented by true scientists who are truely concerned about us and not only about their paycheck.

Verrrrry easy to understand since I'm from Belgium and I speak dutch, french and persian too I still could understand everything about every subject in this book, I'm only 21y old, using the credit card of my mom hehe. I did study sports so anatomy comes in handy understanding some bio pictures from cellular material, but not nessesairy cause we have google don't we ;-)
Also good to mention are the very good references towards other books, but I would still search them here @ amazon and look for the 5 starred miracle that can improve/change your life in a positive way. Have fun with this one, it's truely blessed.

4 out of 5 stars nice condition, late arrival.......2007-01-28

very nice condition, new in fact, but arrival in day 10 th. Very late in comparison with 4 books more that we asked at the same time. It was the last...

5 out of 5 stars Wow I always new good things were happening.......2006-11-10

Dr Oschman's "Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis", has put the "science" into what I have experienced.

This is a must read for all those energy healers who also like to know that it is not all in the head. I couldn't wait to read the next chapter and then the next.

4 out of 5 stars very interesting contents for acupuncturitst and biomedicine.......2005-09-15

This book wrote very interesting contents for acupuncturist and biomedical researchers. what is Energy medicine? this book wrote not difficult! understand easily.

5 out of 5 stars The communicating whole.......2004-01-17

Oschman did something quite exceptional in this book; he expressed my understanding of the way living things work, but went beyond my dark intuitive sense of the significance of the whole, to a crisp, intellectual, yet poetic, expression of the parts in relation to that whole

George Box and Norman Draper have written an outstanding text on model building and response surface methods. This is an excellent companion to Box's text with Stu Hunter and William Hunter on experimental designs "Statistics for Experimenters". Another excellent, more recent and detailed account of response surface methods can be found in the book by Montgomery and Myers.

Book Description

Fundamental Concepts in the Design of Experiments, 5/e offers comprehensive coverage of the key elements of experimental design used by applied researchers to solve problems in the field. Wide-ranging and accessible, it shows students how to use applied statistics for planning, running, and analyzing experiments. Featuring over 350 problems taken from the authors' actual industrial consulting experiences, the text gives students valuable practice with real data and problem solving. The problems emphasize the basic philosophy of design and are simple enough for students with limited mathematical backgrounds to understand. The authors provide extensive coverage of the analysis of residuals, the concept of resolution in fractional replications, Plackett-Burman designs, and Taguchi techniques. SAS (Statistical Analysis System) computer programs are incorporated to facilitate analysis. Thoroughly revised and updated, this new edition includes sixty new problems, focuses more on computer use (adding computer outputs from statistical packages like Minitab, SPSS, and JMP), and emphasizes graphical procedures including residual plots and normal quantile plots. Ideal for various advanced undergraduate and graduate experimental methods courses taught in statistics, engineering, and mathematics departments, this book will also appeal to professionals and researchers doing experimental work.

4 out of 5 stars Fundamental Concepts in the Design of Experiments.......2000-09-16

This book is very valuable for those actively engaged in the conduct of experiments, either operational or developmental in nature. It does require someone with a background in statistical methods using analysis of variance. The user needs to have a good understanding of statistical inference. There are many good working models of various analytic procedures provided.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, if you already know theoretical statistics.......1999-06-12

This book is written for people who already know the theory of statistics and want to do statistic consulting.

The author begins with the basics of design of experiments: experiment, design and analysis. Then a brief (lovely) review of statistical inference follows; including: Estimation, test of hypothesis, power function and some easy applications.

In the following chapters almost all statistical methods are presented; among others: single factor experiments, randomized block and latin square, factorial experiments, nested, experiments of two or more factors, 2^f -, 3^f factorials, split plot design, Taguchi, regression and finally miscellaneous topics including covariance analysis, response-surface experimentation and more.

After each chapter there are problems and answers to odd-numbered problems can be found at the end of the book. Included is a practical summery with all methods presented in one table. Additionally you find a glossary of terms used in statisics, statistical tables and an index.

The examples in the book are analysed using SAS. Knowing that S-Plus is much easier to handle (and knowing that SAS is frequently used in the industry), this is very useful.

The mathematics used is easy, but - as mentioned in the preface - the fundamental concepts of statistical inference must be known.

1 out of 5 stars Statistics by example only - very little theory/concepts.......1999-03-14

After using this book for a class, we all agreed that this book was not the best for those of us who are just learning the concepts in analyzing variance. The author tends to assume the basics are "hard-coded" into the students head. Fair enough. His next step, however, is not to discuss the theory/concept. Rather, it is to give an example of what he is talking about, hoping you will grasp the concept. It would very helpful to have the concepts explained and then the examples given. In addition, the notation (subscripts) are not always explained, nor are the formulas obvious/straightforward. Finally, the book has editing problems.

A better editor and supplementary manuals (step-by-step explanation of concepts and formulas, SPSS instruction, etc.) would be a big help.

My recommendation would be to find another book from which you will learn statistics.

Fulfill the practical potential of DOE-with a powerful, 16-step approach for applying the Taguchi method

Over the past decade, Design of Experiments (DOE) has undergone great advances through the work of the Japanese management guru Genechi Taguchi. Yet, until now, books on the Taguchi method have been steeped in theory and complicated statistical analysis. Now this trailblazing work translates the Taguchi method into an easy-to-implement 16-step system.

Based on Ranjit Roy's successful Taguchi training course, this extensively illustrated book/CD-ROM package gives readers the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and apply the Taguchi method to engineering projects-from theory and applications to hands-on analysis of the data. It is suitable for managers and technicians without a college-level engineering or statistical background, and its self-study pace-with exercises included in each chapter-helps readers start using Taguchi DOE tools on the job quickly. Special features include:

Engineers and technical personnel working in process and product design-as well as other professionals interested in the Taguchi method-will find this book/CD-ROM a tremendously important and useful asset for making the most of DOE in their work.

1 out of 5 stars Blatant Commercialism.......2007-05-07

I found this book to be noting but a thinly disquised sales pitch for software, training and consulting services. A real rip off.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for practical applications.......2002-03-29

I bought this book hoping to learn DOE using Taguchi Methods and apply what I learned to real life problems in my work. It was very helpful. Not only did it help me learn the methods I needed to perform my testing at work but I did it in only 8 days of reading. The book was very easy to read and the examples helped me understand everything I needed to know to apply this method to real situations. A great buy for anyone looking to learn Taguchi Methods.

5 out of 5 stars An Introduction to More Effective Experimentation.......2002-02-20

The challenge that all research directors and senior scientists face is that virtually all scientists are originally trained to believe that the only proper way to conduct an experiment is to vary only one factor at a time while holding all other variables fixed. This belief, which can be shown mathematically to be totally incorrect, has been a drag on the scientific community for decades, causing experimental science to be much less productive than it should be. In fact, by properly designing experiments in which several factors are varied in a carefully thought out, predetermined pattern, much more information can be obtained with far fewer experiments.

What Dr. Roy has achieved in his book on experimental design is to clearly explain why this is so and to provide the tools which allows his readers to overcome their ingrained beliefs and adopt a more effective method of designing their own experimental programs.

Of particular interest is his discussion of experimental design using orthogonal arrays (Chapter 4) for it is in this part of the book that the full power of modern approaches to experimentation become most evident. Here, he illustrates how a set of as few as eight experiments can be used to determine how three presumable independent factors, such as time, temperature and concentration, can be studied to obtain detailed information not only on how each factor individually effects the quality of the final product, but also on the extent to which the factors interact.

Historically, learning this type of technique for designing experiments has been a daunting task since somewhat tedious mathematically manipulations are required for both the design of the experiment and the analyses of the resulting data. However, included with Dr. Roy's book is complete software which eliminates the need for the experimenter to either manually solve the handful of equations needed to extract the results in useful form, or to develop custom spreadsheets in an attempt to automate the process. The software is easy to use and includes all of the tables and data which are used in the book to illustrate the principles of experimental design. The software is also capable of assisting the experimenter in designing sets of up to eight concurrent experiments, rapidly analyzing the data and generating graphical and tabular presentations which greatly aid in the interpretation of the results.

This is an extremely useful book which can have a major beneficial effect on the productivity of any laboratory engaged in experimental process research such as crystal growth, chemical synthesis or manufacturing. By allowing the reader to overcome his innate aversion to varying more than one experimental factor at a time, the book makes it possible for the reader to become a much more productive scientist or engineer and become a role model for his coworkers to emulate.

5 out of 5 stars Must have for Quality Control Professionals and Educators.......2002-02-05

First, I completely agree with all the good things mentioned in the other reviews, but wish to add the following comments:

1. The discussion group (usenet) hosted by Dr Roy is fantastic. If by chance you don't "get it" from reading the book, a simple question posted to the usenet frequently gets you an answer, often within a few hours (its a vocal crowd!!). Many times, the author himself responds to usenet questions. And, on at least one instance, after I repeatdly asked my question, he began exchanging emails with me, which then led to some pleasant phone disscussions.

2. User friendly software and support. See above.

3. Taguichi is frequently attacked by full blown Design of Experiments statistical types who miss the whole point. I strongly encourage all professionals interested in gauging quality control to try out his books and the free software downloads....

An excellent book with powerful software and support......

Reads like a winner, looks like a winner, performs likes a winner....... need I say more...

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent NMR book for the ones 'in between'.......2005-08-12

Lambert and Mazzola's NMR book strikes a nice balance between the weighty tomes aimed at NMR specialists, and the structure-determination only books aimed purely at synthetic organic chemists. For someone like me, who is interested in the experimental and technical aspects of the NMR spectrometer and of NMR spectroscopy, but only because he wants to run good, clean NMR experiments, this book is marvelous. Lambert combines concise and clear discussions of key concepts like relaxation, NOEs, phase cycling, and processing parameters, with succint and illustrative examples. One of the unique aspects of this book is the listing of ballpark parameters for many experiments including ones like mixing times, no. of scans, relaxation times etc. For all parameters, the essential things, and those essential things which you have to watch out for, are both carefully explained.
Lambert's book is a very useful tool for those chemists who are 'in between'- that is, those who want to do structure determination themselves and also learn the practical and fine points of spectral acquisition as well as processing, without too much detail, either instrumental or mathematical. Lambert and Mazzola give us just the right amount. A must have on the shelf of any scientist interested in NMR.

      Book Description

Silicon, the basic material for a multibillion-dollar industry, is the most widely researched and applied semiconductor, and its surfaces are the most thoroughly studied of all semiconductor surfaces. Silicon Surfaces and Formation of Interfaces may be used as an introduction to graduate-level physics and chemical physics. Moreover, it gives a specialized and comprehensive description of the most common faces of silicon crystals as well as their interaction with adsorbates and overlayers. This knowledge is presented in a systematic and easy-to-follow way. Discussion of each system is preceded by a brief overview which categorizes the features and physical mechanisms before the details are presented. The literature is easily available, and the references are numerous and organized in tables, allowing a search without the need to browse through the text.

Though this volume focuses on a scientific understanding of physics on the atomistic and mesoscopic levels, it also highlights existing and potential links between basic research in surface science and applications in the silicon industry. was required by my school, thats why i cought it. has a lot of typos in it, and doesn't explain the experiemnts very well.
      Very marginal over all

2 out of 5 stars Everything a chemistry textbook should not be.......2005-05-22

Horribly written. Painfully disorganized, bouncing from technique to technique and concept to concept at COMPLETE random. Zero photo plates and minimal line drawings that aren't recognizable as anything actually seen in a laboratory. Structural formulas that look like they were produced in MS Word. In fact, the whole ugly layout has this appearance. The $107 price tag must have been a belabored attempt at humor.

        Book Description

Matrix isolation is a technique for trapping reactive species at very low temperatures and studying them spectroscopically. This book offers detailed practical advice on how to carry out matrix-isolation experiments, and is a unique introduction to the subject. Chapter 1 introduces a brief historical survey of the development of the technique that incorporates a discussion of its strength and limitations. Chapter 2 provides a thorough description of the building of a matrix-isolation laboratory from scratch. All the necessary equipment is described in full and there are diagrammatic examples throughout. In later chapters, ancillary equipment for generating reactive species, and an informative description of the various methods for forming low-temperature matrices are dealt with. There then follows a chapter on the specialized technique of matrix photochemistry with polarized light. The final chapter comprises an extensive collection of classic matrix experiments which have been selected due to their ease of application and which will thus serve as useful exercises for testing new pieces of equipment. This accessible text offers thorough coverage of the topic and will be invaluable to postgraduate and industrial chemists as an introduction to matrix isolation techniques. Researchers in chemistry and related fields who are considering whether matrix isolation can play a part in their own research will also find this book useful.

        Book Description

In modern surface science, hundreds of new physical and chemical measurement methods have come to form a vital foundation for experimental research. This book presents many practical and widely used laboratory methods, but which have thus far not been communicated coherently to students or practitioners entering the field. Approximately 250 methods and principles, selected from information supplied by more than 100 experts as well as the literature from the past thirty years, and arranged in topical groupings for easy reference, are described succinctly with drawings and text. Providing a veritable gold mine of clever ideas and tricks of the trade, the book will serve not only as a useful reference for those starting experimental research in surface science, but also as a handbook for established researchers, providing new ideas for using basic materials and components effectively for surface science research and measurement. Updated information on American, English, German, and Japanese suppliers of materials and components used in surface science research is featured at the end of the book.
