Book Description
This is a polymer physics textbook for upper level undergraduates and first year graduate students. Any student with a working knowledge of calculus, physics and chemistry should be able to read this book. The essential tools of the polymer physical chemist or engineer are derived in this book without skipping any steps. The book is a self-contained treatise that could also serve as a useful reference for scientists and engineers working with polymers. While no prior knowledge of polymers is assumed, the book goes far beyond introductory polymer texts in the scope of what is covered. The fundamental concepts required to fully understand polymer melts, solutions and gels in terms of both static structure and dynamics are explained in detail. Problems at the end of each Chapter provide the reader with the opportunity to apply what has been learned to practice. The book is divided into four parts. After an introduction in Chapter 1, where the necessary concepts from a first course on polymers are summarized, the conformations of single polymer chains are treated in Part 1. Part 2 deals with the thermodynamics of polymer solutions and melts, including the conformations of chains in those states. Part 3 applies the concepts of Part 2 to the formation and properties of polymer networks. Finally, Part 4 explains the essential aspects of how polymers move in both melt and solution states. In all cases, attention is restricted to concepts that are firmly entrenched in the field.

Polymer Physics Bible..........2007-01-24
As a polymer physicist, among other things (mechanical engineer/tribologist) I can tell you that this is must for anybody trying to understand polymer physics. Whether you are a scientist or worked in applied sciences (engineering) this will make a great text book and reference.
Detailed but Still Clear.......2007-01-09
I am a Chemist working on applied R&D in the oil refining industry. I bought this text as I needed a good understanding on polymer containing fluids (viscosity, solutions behavior). It is very well written and quite detailed. It is not the sort of text that tries to introduce excessive and not useful mathematical details but is anyway very accurate. I advice it also for professionals
Super Intro!!!.......2006-01-26
This book is very straightforward reading with nice intuitive ways of thinking about polymer behavior. I used it during an intro grad school class and still refer back to it first when I'm thinking about polymers. It has just the right mixture of explanation and equation for anyone with a background in Calculus and a little bit of experience with statistical mechanics (really... just a little bit). A great book.

Customer Reviews:
The Art of Electronics .......2007-09-24
Well written and easy to read and comprehend. Emphasis is on understanding basic principles, not on detailed mathematical analysis and proofs. It was last updated more than 20 years ago, but is remarkably current. It is the textbook for the university level music technology electronics course I teach.
Simply the best general electronics/electrical engineering book I've ever seen........2007-08-16
I've never seen anything that comes close. If you're interested in electronics as a hobby or as a career this is the book for you.
The answers you need.......2007-06-08
If you want to know how to design stuff that works without getting bogged down in the kind of math that gives most people the sweats, BUY THIS BOOK.
Yes, some of it is showing it's age, but even those bits have an enormous amount of clever design insights and very cool solutions to non obvious problems.
In short, whether electronics is a hobby or a career, you cannot do without this book on your shelf, preferably close at hand.
Helpful? Reference, yes. Teaching/learning, no........2007-06-01
I've used this book for two quarters at ohio university in physics 272 and 273. Other than the fact that the lab courses doen't do much in the way of actual teaching, this text and it's sarcasm is awful.
It does ask a lot of questions, but as a teaching text for an introductory set of labs, it is terrible. You may think I'm just too stupid to benefit from sarcastic questions with no material in the text to answer them, but if that is the case, you are probably some nerd type that knows very little in the way of education.
I'll be selling this set of texts, which is unusual, since as a teacher, I generally keep all my texts for future reference (even my introduction to particle physics by Das, and my quantum mechanics text by Ira Levine)...save money and use google, or wikipedia you will find more detailed answers.
Outstanding.......2007-03-09
This book came well recommended and has not been a disappointment. It is not in the style of anything written by the ARRL for learning LRC and RF material, nor had it been presented as such.
The information is very detailed and very complete. Some areas are a little devoid of extensive material but the reader should be easily guided to finding material that will complete their education.
I found nothing that was inaccurate and that says a lot for any technical publication. It covers most of the basics and does it very well. If you are looking for extremely detailed information in any particular subject, this is not the book for you.
Do not omit this book from your library. It is a de facto standard and deserves a lot of respect.

perfect for the ARDMS general physics and instrumentation exam.......2007-01-10
I purchased this book in preparation for taking the ARDMS general physics and instrumentation exam. At first, I reviewed all my notes and re-read my entire textbook (Kremkau). I thought I was well prepared. Then I began this book's questions. I found SO many questions that just looked at situations differently than I had thought of them and really cemented in my mind, okay, if you do this, how will it affect not only this, but this as well? I passed the exam with a 90% and some of the questions I swear were right out of this book. GET IT!!

Ultrasound Physics Review: A review for the Ultrasound Physics & Instrumentation ARDMS Exam
ASIN: 0941022544 |
Book Description
Looking for guidance and a clear understanding of the principles and facts on which you will be tested? With registry-like questions and clear explanations, Vascular Physics Review illuminates this challenging topic from the point of view of experts who themselves have taken and passed the ARDMS vascular physics examination. Vascular Physics Review reveals your strengths and weaknesses, hones your exam-taking skills, and assesses your progress as you study. Based on the exam outline published by ARDMS, this edition contains more than 450 questions that cover ultrasound physics, ultrasonic imaging, physiology and fluid dynamics, physical principles, and ultrasound safety and quality assurance.
Why are our mock exams so popular and effective? Because they contain the same kinds of thought-provoking questions you will find on the real exam! Currently approved for 7.5 hours of continuing medical education (CME) credit by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS).
Customer Reviews:
Not a very helpful study guide.......2006-05-23
This book was not worth the money or the time I spent working on it. I stopped wasting my time after the sixth chapter. Instead I studied Vascular Technology by Claudia Rumwell and that was all I needed. The questions in this book are outside the realm of what the vascular registry actually requires and I passed the test with a very good score. Also, the answers in the back of the book are mostly just references to other books, without many explanations.
Pass the Vascular Physics Exam on the First Try!.......2005-08-28
Overall, this was a helpful practice exam that I found quite valuable towards passing the ARDMS Vascular Physics exam. In fact, I only had two other source materials from which to study, namely the Edelman physics book and another vascular practice exam by Lori Green & Lori Sens. These were enough to easily pass the exam on the first try. The Vascular Physics Review had over 3 times as many questions than the registry test so it was fairly thorough. However, some of the last sections could do with a few more practice questions to round out the topics. The explanations in the answer sections could be expanded a little bit as well, but there was enough to explain the more difficult concepts. At first I hesitated to buy the book but now I think it was money well spent.
A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.......2005-06-13
THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS BOOK IS MORE FICTION THAN FACT. YES IT FOLLOWS THE ARDMS OUTLINE, BUT WITH SO FEW QUESTIONS PER SUBJECT IT PROVIDES LITTLE IN THE WAY OF PREPARING YOU FOR THE REGISTRY AND IS NOT WORTH THE EXPENSE. THE BOOK MAKES MORE OF AN EFFORT TO SELL YOU OTHER PRODUCTS RATHER THAN HELP YOU REVIEW FOR THE REGISTRY. THE CD ROM WAS USELESS, IT WENT STRAIGHT INTO TRASH.

Book Description
Over the past twenty years our understanding of polymer solutions has undergone a dramatic evolution. New methods and concepts have extended the frontier of the theory from dilute solutions in which polymers move independently of each other, to concentrated solutions where many polymers entangle with each other. This book provides a comprehensive account of the modern theory for the dynamical properties of polymer solutions. This includes viscoelasticity, diffusion, dynamic light scattering and flow and electric birefringence. Nonlinear viscoelasticity is discussed in detail on the basis of molecular dynamical models. The book fills a gap between classical theory and modern developments and constructs a consistent picture for the dynamics of polymer solutions over the entire concentration range.
Customer Reviews:
Classic.......2002-08-05
Excellent book: but to grasp everything one will need to read through a few simpler texts first, say Scaling Concepts by de Gennes, Introduction to Polymer Physics by Doi, some Rheology book say Viscoelastic properties of Polymers by Ferry and Polymer Solutions by I Teraoka.
Very good, but not for beginners.......2001-02-14
This book is excellent, there is maybe none better that gets into the fundamentals of polymer motion. A warning: I read two or three other textbooks before I could understand this one.
A must for the best........1997-04-13
This book is great.
It clearifies many ideas about polymer dynamics.
If you want to understand more about this area, there is no better book to start with.
But be careful, it was not designed for beginners.
This is really great

Book Description
Polymer Physics is one of the key lectures not only in polymer science but also in materials science. Strobl presents in his textbook the elements of polymer physics to the necessary extent in a very didactical way. His main focus lays on the concepts of polymer physics, not on theoretical aspects or mere physical methods. He has written the book in a personal style evaluating the concepts he is dealing with. Every student in polymer and materials science will be happy to have it on his shelf.
Customer Reviews:
A comprehensive polymer physics book!.......2003-01-02
This is a comprehensive polymer physics book, each chapter is well written with adequate depth of coverage. Most definitely the book one must pick to delve into dynamics, thermodynamics, scattering and crystallization, and get to the level of appreciating the complexity and beauty of current research and understanding in the field of polymer physics. Highly recommended!
A Decent, Instructive Book for Serious Students.......2001-05-26
I'm no expert on polymers, but I've been exposed to a little on the subject through my work and classes, so I picked this up on sale. The beginnings of the chapters seem informative for one who wants a soundbite rather than the full meaty treatment. On a handful of occasions I've found a few numbers and figures from the book useful.
However, this is not a book for a beginner who wants to gain a little familiarity of the subject without serious study (not like, say, Saleh and Teich's optics book, where one can pick a topic and learn a little about it). When he decides to delve into theory the derivations can only be understood by sitting down and going through them by hand. It's not that steps are skipped or any other such atrocious practice, but simply that this is a book for people working hard to understand and join the field, not outsiders who want to gain some familiarity with it.
So, I'd say it's meaty but understandable for beginners who are serious about studying polymer physics, but not for people like me who encounter polymers from time to time and would like to gain a passing familiarity with the field. Also, it seems like a good reference even for experts, with the wealth of figures and charts and numbers and derivations.
