This book is a great one to brush up on your fundamentals of electrochemistry and a must-have-on-your-bookshelf item for electrochemists. The latest edition also covers sections on modern day applications of electrochemical methods and serves as a good reference to understand the techniques.
Second Edition updated.......2001-05-03
The 1st edition (the 1980 version) was the gold standard of electrochemistry books, and the authors have done an excellent job of revision for the 2001 2nd edition. In particular, the sections on impedance and modern pulse methods flow nicely. The spectroscopy section has been updated as well. I have not worked many problems, but they seem useful in elucidating concepts. The mathematics is of a higher order than one expects from electrochemistry, showing the impact of kinetics on electrode processes nicely. I recommend this text for electrochemistry courses highly.

This is a very complete and thorough book, and
covers all of the fundamentals. It suffers from being somewhat out-of-date (1980), so it does
not cover modern techniques (e.g., x-ray, STM)
or single-crystal electrodes.
It can be rough for the first-time student,
but it's a must for the serious researcher.
I often spend hours working on a problem, only
to discover the answer is buried in here!

Electrochemical Deposition.......2001-05-26
This book being the first of its kind in the industry on electrochemical deposition is very informative and interesting. Copper damanscene being the future for CMP has somwhat made this book a neccessity to all personnel working in the micro electronics industry.
The book gives a good grounding on electrochemical deposition and the underlying parameters that affect deposition.
The only setback is that there is no effort being made to link the findings in the deposition of copper and how it affects the final CMP process.
Being a new and first of its kind this is forgivable.

This monograph covers the rapidly developing field of electrochemical supercapacitors capable of exhibiting many Farads of capacitance per gram of active materials. The volume is aimed at a broad spectrum of scientists and technologists, including electrochemists, chemists, electrochemical and electrical engineers, and materials scientists. Hence the book is self-contained, starting with introductory chapters on the double-layer at interfaces, principles of electrode-process kinetics, and of electrostatics required in the treatment of double-layers and ion solvation, and elements of the theory of dielectrics. The main body of the material is concerned with procedures for characterizing the behavior and performance of electrochemical capacitors. Similarities and differences between electrochemical capacitors and batteries are treated in some detail, together with applications of both small and large capacitance units such as computer memory back-up and hybrid battery-capacitor systems for electric-vehicle drive-trains. The book is an up-to-date introduction to the fundamentals of the initial stages of Electrocrystallization, which are dominated by nucleation and growth of the first clusters of the new phase. It offers a readable exposition of the topic, in simple terms, providing a detailed theoretical description of the phenomena involved. The most relevant aspects of the experimental studies of electrochemical nucleation and growth are considered, as well, including some important methods for acquiring and analyzing experimental results.
Having specific properties quite different from those of bulk materials, these small, nano-clusters have always attracted considerable attention, and many sophisticated methods have been developed for cluster studies. In spite of this, information on small clusters can still be obtained by simple experiments, and the book shows that Electrocrystallization is unique in this respect. In this special case the phase change may be controlled experimentally by controlling the voltage and current, two simple and easily measurable electrical quantities. Certainly, this is what makes electrochemical systems an attractive object of study both from a scientific and from a practical point of view.

Waste of Money.......2006-03-25
This "solutions manual" doesn't actually bother to help you solve anything, it only confirms if you done something correctly. It only provides the answers to approximately 25% of the problems at the end of the chapter.
The biggest problem is that it doesn't show you how to solve these questions, only provides you with an answer. I'd prefer it not give me the answers, but lead me through the theory to solve the problems.
I felt misslead by this book being called a solutions manual, and feel that the price tag is ridiculous for something that is essentially a list of numbers and graphs that should be included in the allready expensive book.
I definately would not recommend this to anyone.

This book is essential item for students who study electrochemistry.
It is very hard to study 'Electrochemical Methods'. But with this student solutions manual, it could become easier.
But, it would be better if all problems were solved.
