Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    5 out of 5 stars Best Introduction.......2006-11-10

There are two negative things to be said of this textbook: I had trouble putting it down, reading well into the night; and, I wanted more.

For those entering the field of explosive engineering, this is an excellant first text. Having learned about shock waves from texts and reports written by those who created the field of explosive engineering, it was a task to learn on my own. Paul Cooper has written a book that makes the subject seem so simple and understandable I wonder why I had so much difficulty understanding these basics. This can only be explained by this text having been written by someone who knows the subject intimately, and has tremendous skills as a wordsmith. It is also obvious that Paul Cooper has put considerable of effort into this work, not letting it be published until it was truely ready.

It is well worth the price, and will be as great a value to the savant as to the neophyte in this field. An excellant predecessor to Paul Cooper's "Explosives Engineering."

    Book Description

A perennial bestseller, Chemistry of Pyrotechnics and Explosives: Basic Principles and Theory, is simply the most definitive reference in this field. Author J.A. Conkling first covers the requisite background in chemistry, thermodynamics, and light emission, introduces oxidizing agents, fuels, binders, and retardants, then explores virtually every aspect of formulating pyrotechnics. Topics include the requirements for and preparation of high-energy mixtures, ignition and propagation, heat and delay compositions, and color and light production, including sparks, flitter, and glitter. The journal Pyrotechnica said this book "…belongs on every pyrotechnist's bookshelf."

3 out of 5 stars A reasonable explanation of the chemisty behind pyrotechnics.......1995-08-18

This is a book that discusses chemistry, on perhaps a freshmancollegiate level (or slightly lower), with an emphasis on thechemistry that occurs in pyrotechnic devices. It is intersting in that it references chemical mixtures from both military and entertainment pyrotechnics. Somewhat overpriced. Does not cover construction of fireworks, nor are the example formulas extensive enough to make this a usefull refernce for the pyrotechnic hobbyist. However, it is educational, and will teach you what is going on, along with some of the why.

        Book Description

Revised and expanded to reflect new developments in the field, this book outlines the basic principles required to understand the chemical processes of explosives.

The Chemistry of Explosives provides an overview of the history of explosives, taking the reader to future developments. The text on the classification of explosive materials contains much data on the physical parameters of primary and secondary explosives. The explosive processes of deflagration and detonation, including the theory of 'hotspots' for the detonation process, are introduced and many examples are provided in the detailed description on the thermochemistry of explosives. New material includes coverage of the latest explosive compositions, such as high temperature explosives, nitrocubanes, energetic polymers, plasticizers and insensitive munitions (IM).

This concise, readable book is ideal for 'A' level students and new graduates with no previous knowledge of explosive materials. With detailed information on a vast range of explosives in tabular form and an extensive bibliography, this book will also be useful to anyone needing succinct information on the subject.

3 out of 5 stars It is a fairly good introductory text........1999-09-24

This is a 173 page paper bound book published by the Royal Society of Chemistry and authored by Jacqueline Akhavan of Cranfield University, Royal Military College of Science, in the United Kingdom. The text partially fills a gap in the literature of explosives by providing more information on the chemistry of manufacturing and functioning of explosives. However, it still is more of a text about explosives than it is about the chemistry of explosives. In brief, it is a fairly good introductory text, but stops significantly short of being a great one.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Chemistry Text.......2007-05-30

First, realize that this book is a fairly technical organic chemistry text about explosives. Under the heading of explosives also fall black powder and some pyrotechnic compositions, but the bulk of the text is about high explosives. This was one of the first texts I read on explosives, and it is one of the best. That being said, I am a synthetic organic chemist by training, so I have a very different perspective on the material.

As one reader mentioned, there is a lot of history in this book. Davis was the chair of the historical section of the ACS (American Chemical Society) for many years, and it shows here. Much is written about the discovery and the industrial processes used to manufacture explosives. Their uses throughout wars and some commercial aspects are also noted. The history of black powder and pyrotechnics are a very informative read.

This is not a formulations book (i.e., the Anarchists' Cookbook, etc.). While it does have some laboratory procedures in it, they are written at a technical level, and without some knowledge of chemistry, it may be difficult to reproduce them.

The material is a little dated, as many of the explosives discovered after 1943 are left out (HMX, CL-20, etc.), but the explosives field is a very mature one, and the material herein is still quite good.

The pyrotechnics are of the 1940s vintage, where mercury, lead and arsenic salts were still in common use, and some other safety considerations were not in place. This book isn't a great place to try and build a library of formulations from, but it is good for the historical aspect.

Overall, the book is very well written and an interesting read. I enjoyed reading it both for the quality of writing and the witty humor interjected by Davis at times. I would highly recommend it to any chemists in the energetic materials world, as well as those interested in the history or chemistry of explosives.

4 out of 5 stars An exellent introduction to Powder & Explosives.......2006-08-25

I'm still reading the book. The truth is that its not what I was expecting, because the book was written about 194X during WW2, I had no idea until I recieved it! But its a very good introduction to the subject as it details the evolution throughout the years (of course, until 194X)

3 out of 5 stars Not bad but..........2006-06-03

I didn't like it. First understand that this book was written in two parts in 1941 and 1943. That in of itself does not make it a bad book. After all as the author state "Principles of Chemistry do not change." Very true, but the knowledge of safety and better compositions do change.
Secondly, I estimate the book is approximately 30% history. And some of that is very ancient history indeed, giving compositions dating back to the 1500's. Of what use are these? It wouldn't be so bad if all the history was put in one chapter, but all this history is intertwined within the technical explanation so as to make studing very tiring.
I give it 3 stars because there is enough technical information in the book for the price. But digging it out will be quite a chore.

5 out of 5 stars The Chemistry of Powder and Explosives.......2005-09-23

I am realy enjoying this book. It's a great history of powders and pyrotechnics, as well as informitive about the chemistry.I wouldn't recomend for anyone under 21.

        4 out of 5 stars Explosive information.......2005-01-19

This work written by Tenney L. Davis prooved to be a fantastic read. Davis uses his knowledge of explosives and chemistry to keep the reader interested as they learn about the many different types of explosives. If you are looking to extend your knowledge of explosives look no further Davis has everything you need to know and more. However if you are looking for an easy book to read for a project you will be dissapointed, Davis uses an extensive vocabulary and at times can be confusing. I would definately recommend this book to anyone interested in chemistry or in explosives. I am interested in both of these and this book was a great tool in providing useful information.

        Book Description

Charles Mader, a leading scientist who conducted theoretical research at Los Alamos National Laboratory for more than 30 years, sets a new standard with this reference on numerical modeling of explosives and propellants. This book updates and expands the information presented in the author's landmark work, Numerical Modeling of Detonations, published in 1979 and still in use today. Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants incorporates the considerable changes the personal computer has brought to numerical modeling since the first book was published, and includes new three-dimensional modeling techniques and new information on propellant performance and vulnerability. Both an introduction to the physics and chemistry of explosives and propellants and a guide to numerical modeling of detonation and reactive fluid dynamics, Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants offers scientists and engineers a complete picture of the current state of explosive and propellant technology and numerical modeling. The book is richly illustrated with figures that support the concepts, and filled with tables for quick access to precise data. The accompanying CD-ROM contains computer codes that are the national standard by which modeling is evaluated. Dynamic material properties data files and animation files are also included. There is no other book available today that offers this vital information.

        4 out of 5 stars Technically Challenging.......2002-08-06

This book is not for the faint of heart.
It is a highly technical book and written only for those
        with experience in this field.
The book does not start out with basic definitions
and is written for individuals who have professional
        credentials in this particular industry.
Personally I look for a technical book to begin with
basic theory and then build from there with orderly
procedures and fully worked mathematical examples.
The author is a good communicator, however if you
are looking for basics in this field, it's a little
steep to try to start from this material.
If your a professional already working with
explosives in a research facility you will find this
book to be an excellent treatise. If like myself you
only have a passing interest and are looking for
general content, then this is not for you.
I was looking for information regarding pressure
relief for dust explosions inside production
vessels and purchased this book by mistake.

1 out of 5 stars No examples included.......2002-08-06

The book does not give any worked examples.

The mark of any good technical writer is
showing your work in detail, this book
leaves a lot to be desired.

I am trying to return the book to
        amazon.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Text Regarding Explosives.......2000-04-20

This book truly is the ultimate text for anyone who is interested in the workings and chemistry of everyday explosive devices. Although it is recommended that the reader have a high ranking background in this type of field, I must say that as a 15 year old rocket science enthusiast I found that comprehending the material provided by this text was a relatively easy task. I believe that if the reader has a strong interest in this type of field and/or in chemistry in general and has little difficulty understanding general chem concepts, that this book is probably for you.

However, I must confess that certain pieces of the work presented in this book are a little harder to understand than other sections. Such as the section that deals with fluid dynamics which I personely had a little more difficulty understanding. But, do not be intimidated for this is quite expected of the reader, any reader, even a scientist. One has to realise that this is a complicated field of interest, nevertheless, anybody who is dedicated to learning the science can understand it.

To me, this book was of great practicality when conducting my own reasearch and development of slightly modernized model rocket engines. It also played a big role in my science fair project when I used some of the general concepts in the book to provide explanations of how my modernized engine designs were more efficient than conventional mass manufactured engines.

All in all a great reference to have and cherish fit for anyone with an interest in the field of explosives, chemistry and physics.

        Book Description

This book examines both the potential application of electronic nose technology, and the current state of development of chemical sensors for the detection of vapours from explosives, such as those used in landmines. The two fields have developed, somewhat in parallel, over the past decade and so one of the purposes of this workshop, on which the book is based, was to bring together scientists from the two fields in order to challenge the two communities and, mutually, stimulate both fields.

It begins with a review of the basic principles of an electronic nose and explores possible ways in which the detection limit of conventional electronic nose technology can be reduced to the level required for the trace levels observed for many explosive materials. Next are reviews of the use of several different types of solid-state chemical sensors: polymer-based sensors, i.e. chemiluminescent, fluorescent and optical, to detect explosive materials; metal oxide semiconducting resistive sensors; and then electrochemical sensors. Next, different pattern recognition techniques are presented to enhance the performance of chemical sensors. Then biological systems are considered as a possible blue-print for chemical sensing. The biology can be employed either to understand the way insects locate odorant sources, or to understand the signal processing neural pathways. Next is a discussion of some of the new types of electronic noses; namely, a fast GC column with a SAW detector and a micromechanical sensor. Finally, the important issues of sampling technologies and the design of the microfluidic systems are considered. In particular, the use of pre-concentrators and solid phase micro extractors to boost the vapour concentration before it is introduced to the chemical sensor or electronic nose.

I am just in the 'literature review' stage of my thesis for an advanced degree in Physics and I have found the information in this book invaluable.
This is a particularly interesting topic for me, and I am pursuing it, step by step. But I believe in the end, the 'gold standard', ie the sniffer dog, will have some serious competition out there.
