Advanced Organic Chemistry: Structure and Mechanisms (Part A) (Advanced Organic Chemistry / Advanced Organic Chemistry)
Francis A. Carey , and Richard J. Sundberg Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
Accessories:
ASIN: 0306462435 |
Book Description
Since its original appearance in 1977,
Advanced Organic Chemistry has found wide use as a text providing broad coverage of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic compounds. The Fourth Edition provides updated material but continues the essential elements of the previous edition. The material in Part A is organized on the basis of fundamental structural topics such as structure, stereochemistry, conformation and aromaticity and basic mechanistic types, including nucleophilic substitution, addition reactions, carbonyl chemistry, aromatic substitution and free radical reactions. The material in Part B is organized on the basis of reaction type with emphasis on reactions of importance in laboratory synthesis. As in the earlier editions, the text contains extensive references to both the primary and review literature and provides examples of data and reactions that illustrate and document the generalizations. While the text assumes completion of an introductory course in organic chemistry, it reviews the fundamental concepts for each topic that is discussed.
The Fourth Edition updates certain topics that have advanced rapidly in the decade since the Third Edition was published, including computational chemistry, structural manifestations of aromaticity, enantioselective reactions and lanthanide catalysis.
The two parts stand alone, although there is considerable cross-referencing. Part A emphasizes quantitative and qualitative description of structural effects on reactivity and mechanism. Part B emphasizes the most general and useful synthetic reactions. The focus is on the core of organic chemistry, but the information provided forms the foundation for future study and research in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, biological chemistry and physical properties of organic compounds.
The New Revised 5th Edition will be available shortly. For details, click on the link in the right-hand column.

Advanced Practical Organic Chemistry
J. Leonard , B. Lygo , and G. Procter Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0748740716 |
Book Description
The first edition of this book achieved considerable success due to its ease of use and practical approach, and to the clear writing style of the authors. The preparation of organic compounds is still central to many disciplines, from the most applied to the highly academic and, more tan ever is not limited to chemists. With an emphasis on the most up-to-date techniques commonly used in organic syntheses, this book draws on the extensive experience of the authors and their association with some of the world's mleading laboratories of synthetic organic chemistry. In this new edition, all the figures have been re-drawn to bring them up to the highest possible standard, and the text has been revised to bring it up to date. Written primarily for postgraduate, advanced undergraduate and industrial organic chemists, particularly those involved in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and other areas of fine chemical research, the book is also a source of reference for biochemists, biologists, genetic engineers, material scientists and polymer researchers.

Writing Reaction Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry (Advanced Organic Chemistry)
Audrey Miller , and Philippa H. Solomon Manufacturer: Academic Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0124967124 |
Book Description
Writing Reaction Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry, Second Edition, is an invaluable guide to charting the movements of atoms and electrons in the reactions of organic molecules. Miller and Solomon illustrate that understanding organic reactions is based on applying general principles rather than the rote memorization of unrelated processes, and, in turn, emphasize that writing mechanisms is a practical method of applying knowledge of previously encountered reactions and reaction conditions to new reactions. Students and research chemists alike will find this book useful in providing a method of organizing and synthesizing an oftentimes overwhelming quantity of information into a set of general principles and guidelines for determining and describing organic reaction mechanisms.Customer Reviews:

Metal Catalysed Reactions in Ionic Liquids (Catalysis by Metal Complexes)
Paul J. Dyson , and Tilmann J. Geldbach Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 140203914X |
Book Description
This book represents first non-edited book on the subject of metal catalysed reactions in ionic liquids and covers the literature from its origins until early 2005. Following a general introduction to the field of biphasic/mutliphasic catalysis, the synthesis, functionalisation and fundamental properties of ionic liquids relevant to catalysis are described. In the ensuing chapters catalysed reactions are discussed according to their type, encompassing hydrogenation, hydroformylation, oxidation, C-C coupling reactions, metathesis, dimerisation, polymerisation and more. Trends, generalisations, advantages and disadvantages of ionic liquids for specific reaction types are discussed. Specific processes such as supported ionic liquid phase catalysis, continuous processes using CO 2 extraction and nanoparticle catalysis are covered. The book should be of interest to all those working in catalysis/green chemistry, in particular, to advanced level undergraduate and graduate students and all those researching or contemplating research in bi- or multiphasic catalysis using ionic liquids.

Principles of Nucleic Acid Structure (Springer Advanced Texts in Chemistry)
Wolfram Saenger Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items: ASIN: 0387907610 |
Book Description
During the last decade the advances in molecular biology have increasingly emphasized the importance of the hydrogen bond in biological interactions. Hydrogen-bonding in assemblages of biological molecules examined from the structural point of view is a main focus of the present book. Hydrogen-bonding is thereby defined in its broadest sense, as many attractive interactions involving a covalently bonded hydrogen atom. The concept of the hydrogen bond structure is developed, as is the role of cooperativity, in stabilizing particular structures and hydrogen-bonding dynamics. The information presented is based on the extraordinary increase in quantitative structural data that has become available from X-ray and neutron diffraction studies of crystal structures involving small and large biological molecules. Included are structural data of particular types of hydrogen bonds as well as data for different types of molecules, such as carbohydrates, purines and pyrimidines, nucleosides and nucleotides, ices and hydrates, cyclodextrins, nucleic acids and proteins.Customer Reviews:

Principles of Protein Structure (Springer Advanced Texts in Chemistry)
Georg E. Schulz , and R. Heiner Schirmer Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0387903348 |
Book Description
There has been an explosion in the information available about protein structure. Principles of Protein Structure provides a comprehensive overview of this massive set of information. The authors use the known structures to illustrate the forces which determine protein structures, the rationale behind many of the features of organization of proteins, and the mechanisms by which proteins perform biological functions. This textbook surveys not only what is known, but also how the structural data can be organized and systematized and what it can be used for in chemical and biomedical research. The book includes what is probably the most comprehensive published bibliography on protein structure.
