Book Description
Stewart's CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS, Third Edition offers a streamlined approach to teaching calculus, focusing on major concepts and supporting those with precise definitions, patient explanations, and carefully graded problems. CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS is highly regarded because it has successfully brought peace to departments that were split between reform and traditional approaches to teaching calculus. Not only does the text help reconcile the two schools of thought by skillfully merging the best of traditional calculus with the best of the reform movement, it does so with innovation and meticulous accuracy.

Poor.......2006-10-25
I taught this class with this book several times, and it makes the material more difficult. It is one of the poorest textbooks available for this class.
It's actually worth the huge price tag.......2006-07-06
I was turned on to Stewart through his excellent multivariable calculus text. Having been so impressed by that book I decided to fork out the bucks for the this text. Yea - I know - the material in this text is a pre-requisite to the other but I own a kazillion mathematics books and at this point in my life, I've been through various levels of Calc so many times that order is irrelevent. Anyway, for me, this book is really worth the huge price tag. I frequently open it up and read it for pleasure. Sick, huh? But it's that good! Stewart is great at chosing examples to work out fully for your eddification. He also is great at selecting interesting and illustrative problems that aren't presumptuous of the student's abilities at clairvoyance (unlike some other textbook authors I could mention). Lastly, the everything about this book reeks of quality: from the mathematical content (btw - it has excellent graphics!) and Stewart's obvious underlying teaching abilities to the physical characteristics of the binding and page materials. The book is a jewell.
Well, I could go on but you probably get the idea. I wish J. Stewart would do a textbook of similar quality on Linear Algebra or better yet, Differential Geometry! That would really destroy the myth that money can't buy happiness.
Good Calculus Book.......2005-09-22
I've learned calculus long time ago, but recently I need it to read a financial book. This book worked for me. I am surprised to know that calculus is easy due to the book's step by step explanation. This book is good not only for readers who learn calculus for the first time but also for poeple who have some experiences. Depneding on your level and purpose, you can read this book like a novel or do all exercises. Only problem I can think of is that this book may not be suitable for people who need to learn pure mathmatics because definitions are not so strict.

I received my item wihtin a week of my purchase. I recommed to buy books from this seller

Great Over view of Family Therapy Theory.......2007-09-09
I used this book for a master class. It has great over views of family therapy theory. Well worth reading.
Really Good... as far as it goes, but the editorializing is odd.......2007-06-01
What I like: There's very little of significance in the field that Nichols and Schwartz have failed to include in the series of seven editions, and they're so deep in the trenches and so well-connected to the ground-breakers that each new edition will pretty reliably cover the latest developments, techniques and empirical research. It's hard to think of anyone else who's doing as -thorough- a job of grounding newcomers as these guys. That said...
What I don't like: The authors seem to have -some- continuing biases against proven philosophy, method and empirical data from the medical model, existential, interpersonal (this really -is- surprising) and other schools of thought and practice that make me continue to scratch my scalp when I run into them. Also... I get further, -faster-, with the Karpman Drama Triangle than almost any other tool I have in the box... and this series has ignored it since the git.
Useful Book.......2006-06-20
I purchased this book for a graduate level course in family therapy. I found it very helpful in explaining the important theories of family therapy. It also highlights therapeutic techniques and provides vignettes of how the theory might apply in a real life situation. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a basic theoretical background in family therapy.
Required text book.......2006-03-10
I bought this book because it is a requirement for a graduate level class I am taking in the MSW program where I live, otherwise I don't know that I would have purchased it. However, it is full of good research information and practical applications with clients.
Student review.......2006-01-05
As a graduate student, I found this book very helpful. It is a perfect introduction to the subject writen with the care that teaches well. I would recommend this for any library that needs an excellent broad overview.

Good introductory biology text.......2007-08-24
This is a great text for anyone taking an introductory college-level biology course. The writing style is simple and easy to understand, unlike many other science textbooks. Despite being very easy to read, it contains a good amount of information.
Biology: concepts and connections with student cm-rom 5th.......2007-02-11
Excellent service and perfect condition, bought brand new. Will buy again and again...
Above and Beyond Other Textbooks.......2007-01-17
This is a fabulous textbook. The descriptions are clear and there is always a picture following in case you are a visual learner. The greatest thing about this book is that it provides so many ways to study. The book has a website and a CD rom, where you can read the book, do very helpful activities, hear MP3 tutor sessions with the author and more. If you don't understand something, there are so many ways to study it, that it won't take long before you will.
What a Savings!!!.......2006-11-23
When I first purchased this book from my school bookstore, I gulped after looking at their price tag over $130. After returning it and purchansing a used copy from Amazon, I couldn't believe the condition that it was in. It was "like new" just the way my seller claimed it to be.
I feel educated every time I use this book..........2006-03-11
This is a great book!! I'm an English Lit. major and wanted to focus a bit on science and got myself this book. It's so wonderfully written! It explains very clearly and it has a CD-rom with excercises. Even if you're not taking an intro-biology course this book is useful and easy to use for self study. The book is devided into theme chapters and covers about everything you can think of in the natural world. It's no doubt a very good introduction to further study in biology. I feel educated every time I use this book!
I'd give more than 5 stars if that was possible.
Book Description
POPULATION introduces you to population issues, concepts and theories. While keeping larger population issues in perspective, the text closely examines key factors in population processes, from fertility and mortality rates to agricultural production and urbanization. The text addresses both population problems and potential solutions, and includes intriguing essays, interesting examples, and up-to-date Internet resources.
Customer Reviews:
Yeah its a text, but its good..........2007-01-26
Weeks is a genius. He came into my population life course class and spoke about anything we wanted to know, and was happy to be there. Which is weird, coming from the academic world.
Population by Weeks Review.......2004-05-29
This is a great introduction to demographics. It provides a easy to read introduction. It is still a college textbook. The author integrates humor into the text, which certainly kept me reading. Infotrac was completely worthless. It was a password to a three-month trial of access to databases. I already have access to databases through other sources, school and the library.

helpful but I believe there was a picture of the actual book.......2007-01-04
I think when I bought the workbook I had a misconception that it was the actual textbook.
Misrepresented item.......2006-11-06
The way the description read for this book was very misleading. I thought I was buying the actual textbook. I was very dissappointed when it arrived less than a week prior to my class starting and it was a review book. Live and learn - if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is!!
thoughts about Human Biology: Concepts and Current Issues.......2006-03-23
This is a great book. It gives a perfect amount of information, not too much, but not too little. I love the pictures and the diagrams. I have the newest edition, 3rd. It's only about 5 pages more than the 2nd edition, so if you need to save money, you won't be missing out on much if you get the 2nd edition.
All Of The Biology Of The Human Body.......2005-05-19
This wonderful book gives the reader a comprehensive presentation of the biology of the workings of the human body. The book comes with a CD ROM inside the cover and a free registration number for the tutor center which offers the learner internet and telephone support.

Good book.......2007-06-01
Easy reading, good explanations of basic concepts and up to date scenarios in real world.
Used at new price.......2005-10-01
I ordered the book new. It arrived with dented/chipped corners and a slightly torn spine on hardcover. I assumed it was new but slightly damaged from storage or shipping. Three weeks into the college term I am discovering highlighting already in the book. I feel ripped off.
not pleased at all........2005-09-01
I ordered the 7th edition as this page shows and incorrectly received the 5th edition. Problem was not corrected.
A good book, but not spectacular.......2003-09-01
This is a good, step-by-step book for strategic management.
It lays out the steps very well, but it could use a bit more information.
The financial ratios section could use more information, and the case studies are often unequal in the types of information that they carry. This makes it difficult to do competitor comparisons.
How do you rank a company's workers policy when only one case has information on it and the other does not? You cannot simply discount such information when it could be an important competitve factor.
Essentially, this is a good book for teaching you a process, but it could use some work on giving you more details.
Strategic Management: Concepts & Cases.......2002-03-20
It is a helpfull book, especially for anyone who deal with the strategy formulation. This book provide some valuable tools for analyzing the organization's environment, both external and internal, which is something special with this book that make it different with the other.
Book Description
The main difference between this text and many others is that an attempt is made here to present material in a rather relaxed and informal way without omitting important concepts. The text demonstrates the wide range of relevant issues and questions that can be addressed with the help of statistical analysis techniques by presenting over 1,750 realistic problems that arise often in health care, the social and physical sciences, education, business and economics, engineering, and leisure activities. It also convinces your students that statistics is "do-able" by including real data that students have collected and analyzed for class assignments and projects. Additionally, the text utilizes an intuitive, common sense approach (including occasional humorous situation or ridiculous name) to develop concepts whenever possible. Statistics: A First Course employs widely available, inexpensive technologies--particularly Minitab and the TI-83 graphing calculator. We also explore the use of the World Wide Web to collect data, providing students with the means to obtain up-to-date information without leaving their desks.
In short this book is written to communicate with students rather than to lecture to them, and its intent is to convince readers that the study of statistics can be a lively, interesting, and rewarding experience!
Customer Reviews:
Very Good.......2006-01-09
This book made statistics easier and less esoteric.
This book is organized into 13 chapters and is a little expensive.
Contains a lot of charts, figures, graphs, diagrams and some pretty pictures too(some of them seem to be out of place).
Salient features -
1) Excellent coverage of sampling & Estimation, and more importantly Hypothesis testing(very comprehensive).
2) Several solved problems.
3) Several exercises/problems for you to solve/learn from.
4) Many typos/printing mistakes/goof-ups.
5) Very detailed in approach.
6) Funny.
Realy a HEAVY first course in statistics.
Very honest seller.......2005-10-01
This person is the best person I've ever dealt with. He responds to you quickly and positively EVERY TIME!!

A Student.......2003-10-19
I took a Statistics couse with one of the authors (Smidt), and this was the reference book (for 500 level). It was a MINITAB course instead a really statistical course.

Where in the World Am I?.......2007-02-08
Geography: Realms, Regions and Concepts is an excellent text which provides the student with all information relevant to understanding geography on a whole; its regions and landforms, climate, politics and people. There is adequate information for every area of the world, and I am very pleased my instructor required this text.
I would highly recommend this book or any other editions of the author, de Blij, to teachers and students alike!
Looked Brand New.......2007-01-25
It was great to buy a book so cheap and look brand new. Instead of going to the bookstore to buy a 113 dollar book.
Great Maps!.......2006-03-23
I had to use the book for a geography class. Didn't really read it a whole lot, but the maps are OUTSTANDING!!! Tons of maps, full color, really well detailed. If you are looking at it for a class, GET IT!!! The maps are great!
Concepts and Regions in Geography..........2006-02-25
Seems like the typical geography text book but it's neither dumbed down nor intimidating. The CD and website are very very helpful and interesting. The Amazon new price when I bought it was cheaper than the used price at bookstores.
Authors biased towards India........2004-01-06
In the chapter about South Asia, the authors have written quite a lot about the "Kashmir problem" but not once have they mentioned the ethnic cleasing of 350,000 Kashmiri Hindus that took place in 1990. I just cannot believe that they don't know about this.

Elementay & Intermediate Algebra.......2007-10-05
The book was brand new.. and in the wrapper. The only bad thing is that I needed "MyMathLab",too. I was under the impression that it came with the book if you bought it new. If you need the book & the "MyMathLab"... then specifically search it that way so you will be given that option. THANKS!
Cheap, New, and Fast.......2007-09-12
I recieved my book promptly, in perfect condition, and for way cheaper than at my college.
Algebra book review.......2007-03-24
The book is very good. It gives many examples for you to use as practice. It explains everything very well and that means a lot, especially since I have not taken algebra in about 25 years. Also I would like to say thanks to Amazon for being so prompt in shipping my order. I ordered the book at 8pm and it arrived by UPS at 10am the next day.
this was really helpful!!.......2007-03-20
the instructors edition has all the answers..which was useful for last minute homework and the price i paid online was the price the college was selling the used copy for. what a great deal
awesome.......2006-12-01
excellent text. clear and easy to read. very helpful for my advanced algebra course. instructions were spectacular with good review at end of chapter and sufficient practice. Highly recommended.
Book Description
Now fully updated and revised, the new Fourth Edition of Cell and Molecular Biology not only offers you and your students all of the latest research, it also gives students the tools they need to understand the science behind cell biology and ultimately succeed in your course. This text is ideal for sophomore/junior-level courses in cell biology offered out of biology or molecular and cell biology departments.
Cell and Molecular Biology provides an alternative for faculty looking for a text that concentrates on core concepts without sacrificing coverage of experimental evidence. Karp explores core concepts in considerable depth, and presents experimental detail when it helps to explain and reinforce the concept being explained. This edition also continues to offer an exceedingly clear presentation and excellent art program, both of which have received high praise in prior editions.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent introductory book.......2007-07-19
I've come to appreciate this book more and more over its succeeding editions. It has now replaced both the Alberts et al. and the Lodish et al. books (both nevertheless excellent) as my favorite textbook on cell and molecular biology.
It is concise, covers a very large range of subjects and has very clear graphics. I think it is better balanced than many of its competitors in the sense that the reader never gets the impression that the author sacrificed certain subjects to give more room to his favorite ones. On many occasions, I was surprised to find things in here that I couldn't find in the bigger (and more "fundamental") Alberts and Lodish.
It references papers and review articles that are very current, and is very up to date on its content.
I think Gerald Karp is doing a very good job with each new iteration of this book and I will recommend it to my students.
Excellent book!!.......2006-01-09
This is one of the most complete and easy-to-read book ever! I have studied with Gerald Karp books since I was an undergraduate student (Biochemistry, and Karp book was always by my side, very useful). This book explain the cellular metabolism, structures (cytoskeleton, microtubules, filaments, genes, relations between genes and proteins, DNA repair, cell cycle, cell signalling, lot of concepts that are not easy to understand at first, Karp does it very simple. You will love this book. I can strongly recommend it. Another excellent book I can recommend is Molecular Biology of the CELL by Bruce Alberts....is excellent! and before you take an exam, I will suggest the "Outline of Molecular and Cell Biology" by the Schaum's series. Well, that's it for now, I wish you the best in your career (I have been there, I know how hard it can be and choose the proper books!) and always remember, keep working and practicing, because practice make the Master!! :)

Great job.......2005-09-26
The book was in great condition. Seller let me know that the book was in the mail which was nice.
Concise story of cell biology.......2002-01-04
Another introductory book in the biology of the cell. I would say that the book is divided into mainly two sections, Cell structure and DANA, DANA replications etc. Second part takes almost two thirds of the book. I would prefer to read other Gene books when it comes to that point but for the cell structure, it is not bad. Some colored pictures, computer animations makes it easy to visualize things. Sections called "experimental pathways" scattered throughout the text takes you into current issues related to the subject. They are also quite sophisticated issues rather than practical problems. I think this book requires considerable guidance when read alone. I could not call this book as self sufficient or easy to read one compared to books by Alberts or Baltimore.
He's got it all here in a nutshell.......2000-12-07
All biology, biochemistry, and premed students will find this text an indispensible source of information for anything there is to know about cells. This is one text that can't possibly be read and fully understood overnight; just take a little bit at a time at any convenient moment and it will all come together in your mind before you know it!
