Book Description
Polymer clay has grown and grown and grown in popularity since the publication of Donna Kato’s best-selling The Art of Polymer Clay in 1997. And there have been so many technical advances, too. Now poly-diva Donna Kato presents an all-new look at one of crafters’ all-time favorite mediums. Donna Kato’s Polymer Clay Innovations begins with the essentials of polymer clay, including its working properties, plus tools, curing, safety recommendations, and color blending (with full information on the now-indispensable Skinner Blend). Photo-packed chapters focus on exciting projects—beads, bracelets, pins, pendants, and boxes--and showcase new techniques, including image transfers, surface treatments such as stencils, stamps, paints, and inks, sculpting, inclusions, special effects, and finishing. Finished pieces by some of the biggest names in polymer clay, including Kathleen Dustin, Pier Voulkos, and Nan Roche, plus Donna Kato herself, offer ideas and inspiration.
Customer Reviews:
Looking for something extra.......2007-10-05
If your looking to do something different with your polymer clay, then this is the book for you. I love all the different methods Donna Kato talks aout, and she writes so well, it is so easy to read, and she makes you feel like it is the easist thing in the world. I love just looking at the images in this book as well. The only thing I would say I don't like about this is book, is that several of the projects are japanease style, but this doesn't make any difference bcuase you can create whatever designs you want to. If you thinking about a polymer clay book-to extend your knowledge then don't hestiate to buy this one!
Nice book.......2007-09-03
You get to know how to, to all the things the title of this page says but most of the projects are to make pendants, if you looking to make a lot of beads projects get " Making Polymer Clay Beads: Step-by-Step Techniques for Creating Beautiful Ornamental Beads by Carol Blackburn " as complement to this book, I think you gonna learn a lot out of this two books to start making polymer clay jewelry or whatever.
Any library strong in clay crafts needs this........2007-09-03
Ten years ago clay artist Donna Kato's first book ART OF POLYMER CLAY established her as an early authority on the topic: she's become a teacher and product designer since then, and her latest title The Art of Polymer Clay: Creative Surface Effects: Techniques and Projects Featuring Transfers, Stamps, Stencils, Inks, Paints, Mediums, and More expands the topic to the next level, featuring dozens of techniques for exciting surface effects and art options. Chapters cover everything from inkjet transfers onto clay surfaces to texturing and toner transfers. Any library strong in clay crafts needs this.
Wouah!.......2007-08-31
Superb book, to be recommended to whom wants to make with polymer clay something really special. Clear explanations, beautiful projects. It requires some material; but the results are the reward.
A must for any craft library.......2007-08-26
I just started working with polymer clay a few weeks ago and wanted a book that logically explains techniques as well as offering good photography. Being a librarian and fiber artist, I HAVE to have my own library of art/craft books for reference and inspiration. Kato's is one of the best I have for any media. It's well written and organized and the photos are inspiring. I highly recommend this book for any polymer clay artist or library wanting to add a high quality book to a crafts collection.

A fascinating study of this amazing archaeological discovery.
Book Description
Recent decades have seen an explosion of new applications of fluoropolymers in all aspects of human life, particularly in the chemical, electrical, and semiconductor industries. Properties of durability, inertness, low coefficient of friction, and high heat and chemical resistance are unmatched by any other family of plastics.
This is the second of a two volume series of books about fluoroplastics. Volume 1 covers the non-melt processible homopolymers, requiring non-traditional processing techniques. Volume 2 is devoted to the melt-processible fluoropolymers, their polymerization and fabrication techniques. Both a source of data and a reference, the properties, characterstics, applications, safety, disposal, and recycling of melt-processible fluoropolymers are comprehensively detailed for immediate use by practicing engineers and scientists in the plastics industry. Students will benefit from the book’s arrangement and extensive references.
Customer Reviews:
Fluoroplastics Volume 2.......2003-10-27
This is a continuation of a previously published book on fluoroplastics by the same author. This volume covers the melt-processable fluoroplastics, one of the fastest growing segments of fluoropolymeric materials. The written material is very well and logically organized.
The book emphasizes the practical over theoretical, although it still covers relevant scientific principles involved in the synthesis of monomers, polymerization, properties and processing. Each melt-processing technology is introduced and very well explained. Additional topics covered are applications, safety, disposal and recycling of fluoropolymers. Numerous appendices contain test methods and technical properties of the commercial products, such as high temperature resistance, permeation etc. A comprehensive glossary is also included.
The ample references at the end of each chapter serve as a resource for more detailed reading on the given subject. There are numerous review papers included, which represent additional relevant resource for the reader.
Fluoroplastics, Volume 2 contains a wealth of useful information and quality data for the student, for the engineer in process or product development or for the scientist in industrial research and development or for the university teacher interested in technology. It is definitely the most comprehensive and informative work on the subject published so far.
Melt Processible Fluoroplastics.......2003-07-29
This is an excellent, thorough work covering this fast-growing segment of the polymer science and technology. Its title claims to be "The Definitive User's Guide and Databook" and it is just that. It covers everything from fundamentals, synthesis of monomers, polymerization, structure and properties and a large variety of essential processing and fabrication methods and applications pertaining to melt processable fluoropolymers. Although all chapters of the book are put together impeccably, those dealing with processing are the strongest ones. Each processing method is explained first and then the details applicable to fluoropolymers are discussed thoroughly. Seven appendices provide information on high temperature resistance, permeation properties of certain fluoroplastics, mechanical, thermal, electrical and physical properties of FEP films, and modulus data for fluoroplastics. A very thorough glossary and a list of trademarks are included and represent additional valuable resources for the reader.

Customer Reviews:
Falls short on design.......2007-09-19
This textbook is aimed at graduate students but it is not good for an undergraduate course such as senior technical elective because it is very light on design considerations and design examples. No software is provided so the students will have to spend lots of time programming. Appendix 5 "Computer Programs for Laminate Analysis" is worthless; a one-page table listing Matlab, Mathcad, Maple, and references to commercial finite element programs, none of which are used in the textbook. The 3rd Edition only adds a chapter on "plates and beams" and another on "emerging composite materials"; if you have the 2nd edition you don't need a new copy.
Excellent overview of composite material performance and anlysis.......2007-07-04
This book is written in a very systematic manner and covers a broad range of composite materials performance starting from basic mechanics. Some contents are quite unique and I never found other composite books. For example, failure modes of composite materials are well-described and almost all-inclusive. This book shoould be a must read for the begginers who want to learn the subject of composite materials in a short time. Someone who understands the basic of composite and wants to do deep-down research, chapter 3 and 4 would be a great review for them.
Overall, I would rate this book as an excellent overview of performance and mechanics of composite materials.

Written for the general reader with an interest in ceramics, Handbuilt Ceramics is a big, colorful, and complete how-to manual for shaping clay without a potter’s wheel. Features 8 projects, complete with materials lists, clear step-by-step instructions, and detailed “how-to” color photos.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-07-03
As an experienced ceramic artist, it's nice to be reminded, that we are never too old to learn
In this book Kathy Triplett shares many of her skills, what I also enjoy is seeing the works of some other outstanding ceramic artist
Honestly, after seeing this book, you will be off to the ceramic supply store, and stocking up on clay & glazes
Comprehensive Ceramics Book.......2006-07-19
Through setting up, producing simple pieces to attempting more complex projects 'Handbuilt Ceramics' is an excellent guide. There are many examples of simple and basic ceramics pieces for inspiration along with practical advice. Each of the projects has step by step photographs and clear written explanations. I have found it useful and interesting.
Very useful.......2005-10-07
This is one of the most useful and well-done ceramics books I've found. It strikes a good balance between basic information (i.e., theory) and practical application (in the form of example projects). It has hundreds of good color photos: some of finished work (to stimulate creative ideas), and others showing step-by-step techniques being applied. The text is well-written and full of useful tips.
Inspiring.......2002-10-23
This book is wonderful. The writing is clear and concise, the project instructions have enough detail to give you confidence for execution and experimentation.
The photos are good quality and inspirational. In the short time I have owned this, I have used it in adult and children's classes. For smaller children who want to rush to the wheel, the book gives excellent examples of what can be accomplished with handbuilding.
The book lit a creative fire for new 6 year-old potters and this old, experienced potter.
Excellent book for both experienced and new potters.......2002-03-18
I turned to this book after being "stuck" with wheel throwing--I just can't think of anything to make on the wheel that appeals to me right now. The pictures and techniques have freshened my creativity and inspiration, and are leading me to explore new techniques and develop new skills that I will eventually combine with wheel-thrown pieces. My favorite aspect of the book is the variety of styles that are shown in the beautiful pictures--there really is something for everyone in here. The directions are comprehensive and clear. Thank you, Kathy, for bringing back the excitement I felt when I first started working with clay. An amazing book! I'm not allowed to come to class without it, and other class members have made trips to the book store to pick up their own copy.
