They are reactive intermediates employed in the production of polyurethanes and other polymers which are used in a wide diversity of applications involving many thousands of workers worldwide. The safe handling of MDI and TDI requires close attention to working practices in their transportation, storage, use and disposal. This book focuses on handling aspects, but also includes reviews of medical and environmental issues. It also shows how manufacturers can save money by increasing the effectiveness of material use and reducing the use of toxic chemicals. It advocates new directions for the material sciences and government policies on materials. And it argues that manufacturers, suppliers, and customers need to set more socially responsible policies for products and services to achieve higher environmental and health goals.
