This is a very good book. It basically shows you how to eat smart...without preservatives and all of the unneccesary things in your diet. I would highly recommend this book to everyone with chronic illness or weight issues.

The Liver-Cleansing Diet.......2007-06-11
I really like this book. I could not locate my original copy so I ordered another one. That's how much I like it. The recipes are good and you do not have to follow exactly and it still works.

JUST A REFERENCE BOOK.......2007-04-10
THIS BOOK IS NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING EVEN THOUGH IT GIVES A DETAIL EXPLANATION OF THE LIVER FUNTIONALITY. IT TEACHES US HOW TO PREVENT TOXINS FROM CLOGGING THE LIVER AND HOW OUR NEGLIGENCE COULD LEAD US TO ILLNESS.
HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT PROVIDE A CLEAR, CONCISE AND EASY TO FOLLOW DIET TO DETOXIFY OR CLEAN THE LIVER AS THE TITLE SUGGESTED. THE DIET SHE SUGGESTED IS A LONG LIST OF FOODS; FRUIT, VEGETABLE AND MEALS WE SHOULD EAT EVERYDAY. THIS LIST TAKES ALMOST HALF OF THE BOOK AND IS JUST REGULAR FOOD MOST OF WHICH I ALREADY HAVE ON MY DIET. I DON'T SEE THE CLEANSING DIET AS SHE SUGGESTED. OTHER THAN THAT ALL THE OTHER INFO IN THE BOOK IS PRETTY GOOD STUFF.
Book Description
In this revised edition of his best-selling book, formerly The Amazing Liver Cleanse, Andreas Moritz addresses the most common but rarely recognized cause of illness - gallstones congesting the liver. Twenty million Americans suffer from attacks of gallstones every year. In many cases, treatment merely consists of removing the gallbladder, at the cost of $5 billion a year. But this purely symptom-oriented approach does not eliminate the cause of the illness, and in many cases, sets the stage for even more serious conditions. Most adults living in the industrialized world, and especially those suffering a chronic illness such as heart disease, arthritis, MS, cancer, or diabetes, have hundreds if not thousands of gallstones (mainly clumps of hardened bile) blocking the bile ducts of their liver. This book provides a thorough understanding of what causes gallstones in the liver and gallbladder and why these stones can be held responsible for the most common diseases so prevalent in the world today. It provides the reader with the knowledge needed to recognize the stones and gives the necessary, do-it-yourself instructions to painlessly remove them in the comfort of one's home. It also gives practical guidelines on how to prevent new gallstones from being formed. The widespread success of The Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush is a testimony to the power and effectiveness of the cleanse itself. The liver cleanse has led to extraordinary improvements in health and wellness among thousands of people who have already given themselves the precious gift of a strong, clean, revitalized liver. Andreas Moritz is a Medical Intuitive and practitioner of Ayurveda, Iridology, Shiatsu and Vibrational Medicine. Author of The Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush, Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation, Lifting the Veil of Duality and It's Time to Come Alive. Founder of the innovative healing systems, Ener-Chi Art and Sacred Santèmony - Divine Chanting for Every Occasion.

THE answer to todays' ill health.......2007-08-06
This book is the most comprehensive I have found on the liver flush. Andreas explains in well-researched terms, our modern day illnesses and how they relate to our 'sick livers'. Our liver has been forgotten in our quest for wellness, and Andreas writes again and again on it being the most important organ in our body, and thus how important it is to keep it clean. The liver flush is so simple yet so effective. I believe it is the answer to many or all of our modern day illnesses. As a registered nurse working 20 years in emergency departments, I have witnessed the other side of what happens when we ignore our liver: such unnecessary interventions, surgery, drugs, etc. This book is now one of my main reference books.
!!!FASCINATING!!!.......2007-04-12
Andreas Moritz never fails to hold my interest. i have another one of his books that is also fantastic. this book is very helpful and the flush really works!!! if you want to feel better and improve your health than you NEED to read this book!!!
The secret of all times.......2007-03-22
I am on my fourth flush. Wow I can not sing the praises of this book enough. Thirty two years of liver pain from parasites going into my liver and leaving a calcified cyst. Now No pain. None Zero. I think of all the people lined up for liver tranplants.
Here is what is more amazing. I had come to conclusion that most people can lose weight not from genetcs but something simple like the gallbaldde needs to be flushed or removed. So I followed the book and I did clean the gallbladder to help me possibly lose wieght. Well, I am going toward a natural balance in my weight by already losing ten pounds. Without the starvation diets.
Sinus problems and allergies GONE Pain left knee GONE Hurtful liver pain GONE. Lower back pain GONE Need for endless coffee and tea GONE I also have all this natural energy.
High choleserol Gone Sugar levels from diabetes from 235 to 92.
I was unprepared for this.

Why I Chose This Book.......2007-01-14
The author is honest, straight-forward, thorough, and knowledgeable in this field. I believe that religiously following his recommendations and instructions would be far more rewarding and much less expensive than blindly accepting the dreaded alternatives.
30 years worth of Gallstones Info .......2006-12-30
This book is written so well that I was able to understand the concept of how gallstones impact the body without being bogged down with a medical dictionary. This book does not waste time on providing indicators on whether you have gallstones on page six there is a natural non-invasive way to determine whether you have stones are not just by viewing the color of your stool.
This book is rich with information, for instance, Chapter 1 conveys the role that gallstones play in certain disorders as well as diseases. Chapter 2 offers a comprehensive guide on determining whether you have stones using the skin, nose, eyes, the tongue, mouth, lips and teeth, hands, nails and feet. Chapter 5 provides guidelines on avoiding gallstones.
The author offers his own experience with a gallbladder attack and how the recipes in the book are what "he considers the most effective". I have read this book about 10 months ago and still I am too chicken to try the flush. I purchased the liquid form of a herb mentioned in the book for apple juice intolerance. And will use this product to dissolve stones as mentioned in the vendor's website from Canada. This will take a year so the flush by all means will be the fastest way to get rid of the stones if you have them.

Customer Reviews:
Helpful resource.......2006-02-06
This review is definitely worth using to prepare for the GI boards. It is as well organized and comprehensive as any one source could be. I found it very useful and even answered questions that I remembered reviewing exactly from this book. However, I would recommend a supplementary review source as well, especially for color plates of histology and examples of esophageal manometry and pH monitor readings etc. Overall, a good source.
This is all you need.......2004-01-30
I can't tell you how valuable this single resource is. The text is imminently readable and the info is right on the money. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of confusing resources until I locked on to this book. Using it alone, with no other study aid, I passed the boards. I strongly recommend this book to anyone taking the GI boards or the recert exam. Tremendously helpful.

Useful text.......2007-03-15
I've had some complaints with this series, but this is one of the better texts. I have used it extensively and read most of it for review. The tables are quite good, and most illustrations/photos are good. It's certainly much better than teh GI chapters I've seen in multiauthored surg path texts. Definitely worth the money.

Book Description
The review from Gastroenterology sums up the appeal of this book: More than any other text in liver diseases, this one provides the best source of synthesised clinical wisdom, a currency in ever increasingly short supply as our fund of factual knowledge burgeons. Indeed, if one demanded that an author confine the breadth of our knowledge in liver disease into a readable clinical textbook of less than 700 pages, he or she could do no better than to direct that individual to Sherlock and Dooley's Diseases of the Liver and Biliary System. Diseases of the Liver and Biliary System continues to be one of the pre-eminent textbooks of choice for trainee as well as practising gastroenterologists. This new edition will contain updated sections on viral hepatitis, in which each type of virus has its own chapter. Since this is the fastest moving area within hepatology at the moment, the clearer demarcation of each virus will be much appreciated by the reader. There will also be updated sections on cholestasis, fulminant hepatitis and ascites. There will be expanded coverage of immunology of the liver and the role of cytokines in disease and therapy. As a new feature for this edition the reference list will be star-rated with annotations to help the reader find the classic papers in any one subject.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best clinically-oriented texts ever!.......2002-03-19
The latest edition of Dame Sheila Sherlock's text on diseases of the liver is a welcome addition to the books available for those treating patients in the clinic. The text is easy to read and well organized. It is easy to find subjects of interest in the index and that cannot be said for every text in print currently.
The book offers clear and consistent handling of issues concerning patient care. This proves very valuable in daily practice. ... the book is a more than reasonable memorial to Dame Sheila Sherlock's work. Although, some might not find the text sufficiently encyclopedic there are other texts for that purpose. I combine Schiff's two-volume set with this when I feel a need to seek that kind of overview.
An excellent primer.......2000-03-16
Sheila Sherlock is like the bible for anyone interested in Hepatology. Although there are several other books more advanced and comprehensive, this is an essential primer to the subject of Hepatology. It's approach is simple, yet reasonably comprehensive and the illustrations are superlative. This is a book every aspiring hepatologist should own.
A layman's review of a difficult subject.......2000-01-15
If you need to read this book as a patient or significant other, do not despair excessively. It is written by and for specialists in the field, but with the aid of a medical dictionary and a sypathetic physician or nurse, you will be able to understand quite a great deal. This helps in demystifying the diseases contained within, giving you at least a foundation of vocabulary and watchsigns. It may help in discussions with your physician if you have a desire for very detailed information. The book also contains extremely extensive references. In the field, it seems to be the best there is. Although the vocabulary and jargon may confuse a bit, use your medical dictionary (essential), and realize that there are not many absolutes in this field. Each patient is an individual, not a statistic. Do not become depressed or anxious about the information--it can seem a little overwhelming and only presents a very clinical, hard look at liver disease. The text only contains the best of Western medicine and does not even remotely cover alternative therapies available to a patient. My advice is to have this as a Western medical reference and outlook. But remember that there is usually another way--search for other answers from alternative practitioners--accupuncture, Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, herbs and herbalists, medical intuitives, healing books and tapes, etc. Most Western doctors at this point often dismiss these alternatives, but they themselves may be able to offer little to help the patient depending on the disease. Think of yourself (the patient) as the center of the medical team--surround yourself with the best you can--people, therapies, positive thinking, etc. Never loose hope or give up. This field is advancing daily, so this book may be out of date by the time you read it and you will have to talk to your physician for the latest information. Most physicians will be happy that their patients are well-informed about their condition and should be happy to discuss any questions you have related to your condition--indeed this is their job.
Customer Reviews:
Although dated, it still informs.......2007-06-19
After my husband's doctor told him that his gall bladder was due to come out (no pain, no troubles of any kind), I asked about detox. "There is no such thing," she said. I proved her wrong with this book, and proceeded to clean out his and my liver, gall bladder, and cleaned up our diet with Sandra's help.
I also ordered her other book, and keep them both as reference. Every book I've managed to read with the same subject matter and a newer publishing date has the same info in it--I'm glad I got it from the pioneer. I STILL can't find anything new under the sun for liver/gall bladder/kidney care!
Not good for people with digestive troubles!.......2006-07-08
Unless your diet is presently terrible, this book probably won't help you if you have candida, celiac disease, crohn's, ulcerative colitis, IBD, or IBS. Cabot limits meats and encourages non-gluten grains. Those of us with many kinds of digestive disorders cannot digest starches and disacharides (double sugars). I followed the Liver Cleansing Diet strictly for three weeks, but the inclusion of grains, sweet potatoes, corn, and soy made my symptoms worse than they had been before I started her diet. My bloating became so bad on this diet that I looked six months pregnant and getting worse. I eliminated soy and corn but to no avail. I then switched to Elaine Gottshall's Carbohydrate Specific Diet (Breaking the Vicious Cycle) and started feeling better within two days. My belly is board flat now, my skin looks better, my mood is good, and digestion feels so much better - after only one week! I wish I had found Gottshall years ago.
I gave the Healthy Liver and Bowel book (and the Liver Cleansing Diet) three stars because the information about the liver was well documented and important to learn. The caveat here regards impaired digestion; as long as our intestines are not functioning properly we cannot absorb the nutrients our liver needs. People with digestive disorders need a dramatically different approach.
I think Cabot is a good doctor and writer, but maybe needs to broaden her horizons. Excellent liver health CAN change our lives, but until my intestines heal, my liver starves.
Easy to read and it works !!!.......2001-08-31
This book is designed to be read by a person with no medical
or scientific background. It educates you about your digestive system is supposed to work, what can go wrong, what you can do about it, both preventive and if you are already ill. I have followed what I thought was a healthy diet for years, and some advice from this book, and motivation of understanding why, allowed me to fine tune, and start losing weight and feeling healthier already.
She does sell lots of other things, and she is more an marketer than a doctor, but her information is basic enough that her scientific knowledge is more than the average person needs to know. I read another book on the Liver by Melissa Palmer, and it talked down to the average person, and was a bit stiffer of a read. Dr Cabot truly caters to the public, and I highly recommend this book.
a very informative and holistic aproach.......2000-02-29

Book Description
This is the definitive reference work on the histopathology of disease affecting the liver. No other work provides such a detailed discussion of the subjects or such ample color illustrations of the diseases and their variations. The book consists of two volumes: text and photomicrographs. Volume I features 27 chapters detailing the techniques of liver biopsy; the production of microscopic slides; detailed discussions of the diseases of the liver; AIDS; and liver transplantation. Volume II presents more than 1100 corresponding color photomicrographs, illustrating the histologic abnormalities seen in liver disorders. These remarkable color plates are presented in a large format (4 per page), each with a detailed description of their histologic features. Expertly written and meticulously organized, this will be an invaluable sourcebook for hepatologists, gastroenterologists, and pathologists. The book provides a useful description and analysis of the cellular and tissue patterns of disease in the liver as seen through the microscope.
