Customer Reviews:
school required purchase.......2007-08-23
The high school required the purchase of this book for the AP Chemistry class. I was pleased it was so easily accessible and used copies were available. The school year just began, I am sure it must be a good source of help for the students since the teacher is requiring it at the beginning of the year.
Great review book.......2007-07-27
This book covers almost all topics you'll see on the actual test. And it really helps if you need an overall review just before the test.
However, it didn't cover much on the Organic and Nuclear chemistry. Well, even though these two topics are not emphasized(about 5 MC), you really need to go over them if you really want a 5 on the test.
And, do every question(including the free response questions).
Be confident, the actual test will be easier than you have thought.
cracking the ap chemistry exam.......2007-06-12
The book was written in - in PEN! All the answers ! It made for a waste of time and money to get a book you could not use as a study tool.
A Very Concise Review Book.......2007-05-23
This review book has been really helpful in preparaing me for the AP Chem exam. Unlike other review books, this book does not include a whole lot of review information. This is good because when you review, too much conceptual reviews can actually hinder the review process, something that Baron review books tend to do very much. In addition, the problems on the back of every section are very useful, although it's actually a little harder than the actual problems on the exam. Overall, this book has been very helpful.
AP Chemistry .......2007-05-14
This book is an excellent review source for the AP Chemistry exam. I was very satisfied with the material. The only problem noted was that the free response section of the review is not in the current format of the test. The material, however, is relevant. Would highly recommend this book!

Customer Reviews:
Every medical student should get this book........2007-09-14
All major topics covered by the usmle step 1 are concisely and intelligently covered in this book. The figures are amazing and integrate concepts so that you are sure to get the big picture and the most important points from each chapter. I use this as my main textbook for my medical biochemistry course. After I get the concepts covered in this book, filling in the details from lectures or my required textbook, (Textbook of Biochemistry With Clinical Correlations, is easy. I am sure that it will make studying for step 1 easier too since, with the aid of this book, I have been able to focus on the big picture from day 1. Also, if there is no preview here on amazon, I think the book's website has sample chapters. [...].
Great reference!.......2007-09-13
This is an excellent resource for decoding those lectures delivered in a less than linear fashion. Well organized, excellent illustrations (cartoons) explain most concepts. Will save your hours of banging your head against the wall. It is saving my happy behind right now! Would not recommend for board review - too comprehensive - but do NOT go through biochem without this translator.
read for boards.......2007-05-25
i read this for the boards(step1). It is readable with nice tables and diagrams that compliment it. you may not have time to read it, but if you have time, pls read this book for step 1. You should also read it during course work, then when the step 1 comes along it should be easier to read. i wish i read it during course work, but i read it for my step 1 and i made a 229/95
The Newest and Best Edition.......2007-02-28
I have used all three of the editions of thisbook in my classes. By far the best review text, the addition of color illustrations adds greatly to the conciseness of the text. Color certainly helps me remember things a bit better, as I have a visual memory. A good study aid and USMLE prep book.
must have.......2007-02-01
if you take biochem, gotta have this book. by the way, biochem blows.

Customer Reviews:
Just what I needed!.......2007-07-08
This is a great review book. It isn't swarming in details and really outlines the high yield stuff for step 2 without being overwhelming. Format is similar to a text book...but there are lots of memorization charts that are helpful.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!.......2006-11-30
This book is amazing. I used for the USMLE Step 2 CK and get a 220. I used with the First Aid, because this book has different information than the FA. I highly recomend to read chapter 29-34 a couple of time they are very helpful.
Good Luck!!!!!
Well presented chapter but .............2006-11-06
If you are looking to add further information to this book ( as is needed from other sources ) the fact that the contents are not in alphabetical order might waste allot of time flipping back and forth and on every occassion having to look to the content table. Unlike First Aid, where the contents are in alphbetical order ( ex: Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Endocrine .... etc.). If it was alphabetical it would allow for faster and more efficient stydying as is needed in preperation of a Step exam. Best of luck.
useful book.......2006-08-07
The format is excellent. Concise and easy to read; a lot of pertinent information for the step 2 preparation.
great book.......2006-07-10
everything it claims to be, and a great brush up before step 2.

Book Description
1001 Questions in MCAT Chemistry provides practice questions in all chemistry topics covered by the MCAT. The questions and explanations are designed to teach the student to think intuitively. Like the MCAT, conceptual thinking is encouraged while lengthy calculations are discouraged. Memorization of basic formulas is required, but usually will not, in itself, provide the fastest method to finding an answer. Questions are conveniently arranged by topic. Question difficulty ranges from easy to very difficult. Questions are formatted exactly like the MCAT. Answers and explanations are provided in the back of the book.
Customer Reviews:
Examkrackers Chemistry.......2006-08-22
This is a very good book. Amazon shipped it right away, in excellent condition. This book will help you get ready for the MCATs by acting as your very own tutor. I recommend getting all of the Examkracker series.
Great for high yield review.......2006-05-15
To get into Med school after 15yrs in business I took my Organic Chem series over again, studied Exam Kracker's 101 series until I knew the books cold, listened to EK's Audio Osmosis about 10 times while communiting then took several full length practice tests.
Going in I thought I'd be taking it a 2nd time so I wasn't too stressed. Afterwards, I was even more sure I would be re-taking it. However, I managed a 30 (straight 10's) so I know anyone can.
Bottom line, MCAT is not about knowing a ton of details (unlike Step 1). Know the basics like EK teaches so you can apply the concepts anyway they ask the question. Then practice, practice and pracitce some more (yes, especially the essays). It will help cement the concepts in, but more importantly give you confidence.
My personal belief is reduced stress and being on top of your game test day are more important than which study aid you use. That said, EK's focused and yet whimsical style was perfect for me to go through it over and over until I knew it cold.
Excellent. Do be fooled by other texts, this rocks!!!.......2005-06-19
First of all, if you consider yourself a 'pre-med' and serious about the MCAT, then as such you probably would've done some research about your products you are using... judging from the other reviews, they have not.
These texts are for reviewing the SUBJECTS specifically... NOT for the MCAT!!! There designed to fill in the gaps you may have missed that some teachers 'leave out' during your education.
If you want reviews specifically for the MCAT, and you are already a master of all the subjects covered, then get the Examkrackers Complete Study Package here on Amazon.
The 1001 and 101 question series by Examkrackers is a great SUBJECT review for any student, premed or not. They explain difficult concepts in simple terms. Thanks EK!
Great chem review.......2005-06-03
This book really focuses on the topics that are tested on the MCAT. I'm pretty good in chemistry but this book made me extremely comfortable with all the topics. It's an excellent complement to any review book and I highly recommend it.
A must have for the Physical Sciences portion of the MCAT.......2004-07-23
If you want to score well on the physical sciences portion of the mcat, BUY THIS BOOK. I bought this book 5 weeks ago, and I feel much more confident about the material on the MCAT. Get this book for practice and drilling of concepts. If you don't know the material- DO NOT GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!! Like said above, review the material elsewhere, but if you wanna perfect your concepts get this book. Make sure you review the concept, though, before doing the problems. It's the general rule of thumb, that if you know the concept decently, and If you do problems (which this book has loads and loads, for example, there are 200 problems devoted JUST to acids and bases), then you will master the concept. I have improved my physical sciences scores now to a 12 up from a 9 in just 3 weeks. Granted, I worked very hard, but if you put your heart into this book, and really learn each and every one of these 1001 questions inside and out, meaning you learn why every answer choice is wrong, and why choices is correct, and also if you can give yourself problems just like the problems in the book, then there is absolutely no reason to not perform well on the Physical sciences test. Everyone says how the MCAT test is a thinking test is a valid statement for every section except for the physical sciences section. Only thinking you'll have to do is read and understand the passage (which, say if the passage is about magnetism, and you understand magnetism like thet back of your hand, is a joke), the rest of the test is simple math calculations and concepts. Good luck pre-meds-don't lose faith in yourself-the MCAT's are extremely difficult, but they are also predictable, and most importantly, conquerable.
Average customer rating:
- Not the best, it helps
- It will not prepare you for the MCAT
- Exam Style
- Decent
- Perfect practice problems for MCAT

Customer Reviews:
Not the best, it helps.......2007-07-02
The last comment from James Min is on the ball, however, although many of the questions ARE too easy..there are too easy for sum1 who has a solid foundation in OCHEM, like myself. However, with sum of teh questions that i got wrong, the explaniations were perfect in allowing me to understand and review sum of the things that I 4got. Example: What is the hydrogen defeciency of C1204h3Br1-
The formula for this problem is (2n+2) - x/2 where is the number of carbons and x is the number of hydrogen OR Halogen...My OCHEM prof never mentioned that we added the halogens to this equation! So overall I will give the book 4 stars
It will not prepare you for the MCAT.......2007-06-30
It does not deal sufficiently with reactions. The questions are too easy. I don't have a problem with the questions being in discrete forms since one needs solid understanding of the materials (through discrete questions) before being able to tackle passage based questions. But, after having gone through about 50% of the book so far, I don't feel like I've improved in my knowledge base in Ochem. If you need very very basic questions, this book is for you. I get the feeling this book was put together in a hasty manner with little thought invested in the quality of the questions. I would not recommend this book.
Exam Style.......2005-09-23
This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.
Decent.......2005-07-24
This book was decent in that it reviewed some of the fundemental concepts necessary for the MCAT. However, most of the questions were too easy, and none resemble the format of an actual MCAT question (not passage based). There were some errors, but easy to identify. The book was worth having for extra practice if you have the money, but don't expect much.
Perfect practice problems for MCAT.......2004-02-19
Practice is the key to the MCAT. Review is an essential first step, but is only part of the complete preparation for the MCAT. ORGO 1001 will help you guys ace the Biological Science questions. Everything from stereochemistry to lab techniques is in this book. There are over 90 stereochemistry questions alone. This book won't guarantee a 15, but it may help raise your score a couple points.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Challenging Questions For MT Students.......2007-01-03
This is the most difficult review book that I've come across. It contains harder questions than the ACSP Bor review book, NCA review book and the Prentice Hall Q and A review book. If you like challenging questions, then this book is for you. If you just want the basics and normal questions, then go with the other books. It has the explainations along side the questions on the very same page which is nice. Not really for students studying for the MLT exam but more toward MT level exam material. The new 3rd edition comes with new CD software with quizes and photographs which I found to be very nice.

A must have book.......2006-05-10
Actually, my co-worker asked me to purchased this book online. All I know is she passed her stateboard last week.
Comprehensive review.......2005-09-20
I found this book to be a very good review for the med tech exam. There were even a few topics that weren't covered in class. The key to making this book work is to start early and do a set number of questions per day. I liked the fact that they had explainations for each answer, because then you could figure out why you got a question wrong. I passed the MT(ASCP) exam with a high score, and I feel that this book definately contributed to my success.

Prentice Hall Health's Question and Answer Review.......2006-11-10
Very good cards. I highly recommend them to anybody preparing for certification exams.
A must have for reviewers.......2006-06-01
I bought this book when i was reviewing for my Medical Technology certification exam. The book is more difficult than the certification exam. But the beauty of this book is that it will make you understand the rationale and principles behind all the laboratory tests and procedures. If you can pass at least 60% of the questions in this book. You have a good chance of passing the certification exam.
Prentice Hall Q&A Review of Med Tech/CLS.......2003-09-05
I highly recommend this book! I bought several other review books such as Concise Review, and this book has more detail than any of the others. It has 1000's of questions, but what is most helpful is the DETAILED description of the answers. They were so thorough that by diligently studying and outlining their answers you will learn a tremendous amount.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Book.......2007-03-11
This book was a very good purchasing, because it gives me the main infomation about biomolecules, metabolism and biochemistry deseases. I don't want to be expert in biochemistry, I am studying medicine and I just want to be a doctor that has a good biochemistry knowledge with a clinical approach. This book gives me what I want...
Besides, the book makes be easier to learn biochemistry...
Good Clinical Correlations .......2007-03-03
The whole point of going to medical school is to be able to solve problems and apply basic scientific principles in solving those problems. This edition gives specific and memorable clinical cases that help one to remember and apply these priniciples in clinical practice. It also comes with a CD that is a great bonus. I heartily recommend this book to help explain and use the basic medical biochemistry principles. It starts with a look at the metabolic and nutritional needs of the human body, relevent to anyone, and a great place to start, whereas many other books like, Lehninger, start out with chemical theory. This makes Marks much more relevent to the medical student and much more interesting. I recommend this book for your library and practical use. Use Lehninger to keep the door open, and read Marks to feed your brain.
Marks' Basic Medical Biochemistry: A Clinical Approach.......2007-01-20
An excellent clinically based medical biochemistry book. Good examples of realistic cases.
It makes a decent doorstop.......2006-11-05
I'll be honest, I love Biochemistry and I have tried several different books but I always go back to Voet. It may be a little deep in detail for the medical community but it gives a much more clear and concise overview than this book. I gave it two stars because it does serve as an excellent doorstop.
Great Book for MS1s w/o Biochem Background.......2006-08-27
I got this book for a medical biochemistry course I took prior to entering medical school to fulfill my undergraduate degree requirements. The book then was amazing. It's explanations were easy to understand, the figures weren't confusing, and the clinical correlations helped out tremendously. When I did enter medical school, I cracked open the book again to see if it would help with the level we were at there. It did! It seems to have a good balance in teaching the concept and integrating the deep minutia. I absolutely love this book. Whenever stuff gets a little confusing at school, I go home and read it and it clears it all up. This book comes highly recommended!
