Book Description
Now in two volumes, the Third Edition of this standard-setting work is a state-of-the-art pictorial reference on orthopaedic magnetic resonance imaging. It combines 9,750 images and full-color illustrations, including gross anatomic dissections, line art, arthroscopic photographs, and three-dimensional imaging techniques and final renderings. Many MR images have been replaced in the Third Edition, and have even greater clarity, contrast, and precision.
Customer Reviews:
NO1 book in orthopaedic sugery.......2007-06-24
Best book in orthopaedic surgery. Huge amount of photos and illustraions, in detail review, almost every disease and the sports injuries are covered in this book. Very practical, easy to read, must-have for orthopadeic surgeon. This is not only the best textbook, this is the beautiful artwork.
incredible.......2007-05-13
This is the definitive work on orthopedic imaging. The illustrations and images are all of high quality. Unlike many other reference books, this one actually gives you an approach to image interpretation for each joint, in addition to detailed discussions of the pathology. There is also a sample report with images provided at the beginning of each chapter. Although it is pricey, it certainly blows the diagnostic imaging book out of the water. Highly recommended for any radiolgist interested in providing high quality reports to your referring orthopedists.
High end orthopedic imaging text.......2006-11-24
The illustrations are beautiful. There has been tremendous attention to detail. This is a definitive tome on high end orthopedic imaging. It contains information and concepts that are pretty cutting edge (that seem to just be getting into the literature). If you're looking for THE text on orthopedic imaging, this is the one. It BLOWS away the DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING Series - Orthopedics (by Dr. Stoller also).
This is a very large series of 2 books. Like that it's broken up into upper and lower extremity. Initially, cost freaked me out a bit. But, for what you get ... particularly the really high quality images and illustrations (and lots of them), it's well worth it.
Essential for MSK radiologist but a little dry.......2002-09-07
This remains an essential textbook for musculoskeletal radiologists although one criticism would be that is a little dry . It steers clear of the opinion which makes books by Resnick or Helms so entertaining and useful. Stoller and some of the authors he has used for the chapters are enormously experienced and it would be good to read a more personal perspective .
Fine Text for Orthopaedic MRI.......2000-07-13
This book provides thorough reviews of disease process involving each joint. There are also chapters discussing bone and soft tissue tumors. Illustrations include MR images, intraoperative images, and pathologic specimen. I have found it very informative and helpful for my radiology residency. It is quite pricy with a price tag of nearly $300. So it is probably only meant for those of us who are really dedicated.
Book Description
Drs. Elizabeth Morris and Laura Liberman, two rising stars in breast MRI from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, edited this complete, superbly illustrated practical guide. The comprehensive text is written by contributors from the top cancer centers in the world. Introductory chapters are devoted to diagnosis and cover the basics of performing breast MRI exams, setting up a breast MR program, and understanding clinical indications. Additional chapters discuss breast interventional procedures, including the surgeon's use of MR and MR-guided needle interventions. A comprehensive diagnostic atlas completes the volume and addresses the spectrum of clinical situations, such as various carcinomas, special tumor types, and benign histologies. Radiologists, residents, and fellows will benefit from this guide's thorough examination of image interpretation, which highlights pitfalls that specialists must recognize.
Customer Reviews:
excellent introduction to breast MRI.......2005-10-21
well made with a fantastic amount of pictures. A great help when you have to start breast MRI from scratch.
Book Description
Since the first edition of MRI in Practice was published in 1993, the book has become the standard text for radiographers, technologists, radiology residents, radiologists and even sales representatives on the subject of magnetic resonance imaging. This text is essential reading on postgraduate courses. Furthermore, MRI in Practice has come to be known as the number one reference book and study guide in the areas of MR instrumentation, principles, pulse sequences, image acquisition, and imaging parameters for the advanced level examination for MRI offered by the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the USA. The book explains in clear terms the theory that underpins magnetic resonance so that the capabilities and operation of MRI systems can be fully appreciated and maximized. This third edition captures recent advances, and coverage includes: parallel imaging techniques, functional imaging techniques and new sequences such as balanced gradient echo.Building on the success of the first two editions, the authors have now re-conceptualized the design of the book. The third edition contains a wealth of additional illustrations and chapter enhancements draw on the depth of the authors ' experience in delivering MRI education and training. To promote accessibility of difficult concepts, extended analogies have been developed to relate the complexities of MRI physics to everyday phenomena. Learning points are clearly articulated, and frequent summaries are included to assist the reader in digesting the information.

A Great Helper for Students and Professionals.......2007-01-09
I have been working in MRI for 8 years and I think this is the best book I've ever read. This edition is well made than last edition. The figures and images are very useful.
One of the best all-in-one MRI instruction textbooks........2007-01-04
Not overly technical, easy to read, and not boring. Each topic is discussed clearly. The illustrations are sharp and in color. The chapter on K-space makes it worth the price. If you are only purchasing one textbook for MRI this is a very good choice. Less technical than Lufkin, less entertaining than Bushong; this is overall a very good choice for the technologist, medical student, or physician looking for a good reference on the subject of magnetic resonanace imaging.
Book Description
Completely updated to reflect revolutionary changes in technology and practice, the Fourth Edition of this best-selling reference features state-of-the-art coverage of multislice CT scanners and three-dimensional imaging, plus a new chapter on the acute abdomen and new material on CT and MR angiography, lung cancer screening, pulmonary embolism, coronary artery calcium screening, and interventional CT techniques including radiofrequency ablation and CT fluoroscopy. More than 5,000 illustrations--mostly new 3D and multiplanar images--complement the text. Each organ system chapter demonstrates imaging techniques, normal CT/MRI anatomy, and pathologic findings. The authors indicate where MRI complements or supplements CT or has supplanted CT as the primary imaging modality.

Book Description
MUSCULOSKELETAL MRI covers the essential and basic facts of musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging. Normal anatomy, the most common abnormalities, and diseases that are unique to the anatomic site are discussed along with individual joints and general disease processes. To facilitate learning, the text is logically organized by discussing the components of anatomy, then immediately explains abnormalities affecting the individual structures.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-04-23
This is an excellent book that thoroughly covers the intended material. Great for spine. Get it!
Simply the Best.......2006-02-26
I regard this as the best single text in radiology, and it's one of two that I use on a daily basis. I only bought it because someone stole my last one.
The writing is superb. The index is very useful and the pictures tell me nearly everything I need to know - starting with basic anatomy.
Great review.......2005-08-13
Not the most in depth source for MSK radiology but a great overview of important topics and their MRI findings.
The Best Musculoskeletal MRI Book........2005-07-16
Why can't all radiology books be written like this. I just wish that authors in other fields of radiology can write books like this. This book tells you what you need to know and not how much the author can write about a subject. It's good for anybody from resident to practicing radiologist. If you read MSK MRI, you have to get this book.
Great MSK MRI book.......2004-08-20
This is an excellent book for the following reasons:
-Size of text. This is the perfect size for an introductory text for a resident rotation. Small enough to throw in your backpack.
-Cost. On par with the Requisite series.
-Concise presentation. The text is easily readable for someone who has experience with plain film MSK, and takes time to explain the relevant anatomy when it's important. It goes over the most important topics over each major joint, leaving out the more obscure topics for the larger textbooks.
-Illustrations and images. Illustration are simple black-and-white drawings, which are much more effective than some texts that borrow illustrations, which are often way too busy (poor illustrations of the relevant anatomy). The images range in quality from OK to excellent, but shows normal first and pathology second for comparision. The images are liberally labelled with arrows denoting pathology and normal anatomic structures, which is a mark of an excellent text. I detest texts who present images without pointing out the findings. It's lazy, unhelpful, and sometimes you can't figure out just what the abnormality is! Tree-in-bud? Crazy paving? Pencil-in-cup? Radiology is filled with signs and descriptions, some of which are ridiculously or poorly named. Unfortunately your stuck learning them, and nothing is more infuriating than reading through a topic like arthritis with unmarked images showing subtle findings like "erosions" without clearly illustrated images.
This book is worth the asking price. MSK MRI is a rotation most residents don't receive until their 3rd/4th year, and it's the quickest way to hit the ground running.

Customer Reviews:
helpful book.......2007-05-07
This is a very useful book for CT/MRI Technologists. The images are current and the labeling of anatomy is more detailed than most cross sectional books for Technologist. It is very helpful for Neuoro anatomy, but could use additional labeling.

Customer Reviews:
Very Informative.......2007-01-04
Coming from a purely Physics background, this book is great at explaining in simple English without sounding like it is talking to a complete idiot. I don't appreciate books that are condescending, and this one is not. Very good, well written, and highly recommended!
It is bible for understand NMR.......2006-11-10
It is a distinguished book for beginer to under stand NMR from theory to experiment step by step.
Good NMR text.......2004-10-05
This is an excellent text book written by a chemist. Author handles some of hardware stuff as well as physical chemistry of NMR based on quantum mechanics. This text provides us with clear pictures of NMR phenomena. Some detailed explanations about basic NMR pulse sequences are excellent for everybody who studies this field.
A must have for any aspiring NMR jockeys.......2004-01-18
For those studying biomolecules with NMR, the unofficial bible is of course the maroon colored Cavanagh book. Though this is an excellent book, it isn't the best suited book for beginners. This is where Levitt's book comes in: this is by far the kindest introduction to NMR that I have seen, with heavy emphasis on understanding the concepts first and the formalism later. The book is full of useful diagrams, detailed analogies, and exercises for the reader where other books only show equations. So borrows someone's Cavanagh first, and if you get stuck after 20 pages then order yourself a copy of Levitt and you won't be disappointed. If you already have studied NMR and are looking at how to apply it to proteins, then Cavanagh should suit you fine.
Clear first introduction to NMR.......2002-07-27
This book could simply be stated as an excellent attempt to introduce the foundations of NMR. It is a very good primer on all theoretical aspects that are essential to an understanding of the subject.
It offers a methodical, step-by-step approach. Useful tools and consistent terminology are the most attracting feature of this volume. It is well-illustrated; and controversial issues are highlighted in the "Notes" sections at the end of each chapter. It has illustrative problems at the end of each chapter, with solutions provided at the end.
Interestingly, the appendix covers many important aspects that are needed at a more advanced stage. Useful tools for the understanding of NMR are developed at appropriate stages. These include: the box notation for coherences, populations, density matrices and transitions; the origin of NMR spectra from individual coherence terms in the density matrix; origin of 2-D NMR signals as well as many important concepts in Fourier Transform NMR are described. The origins of relaxation enjoy a very readable and simplistic approach in the last chapter.
Whenever simplistic approximations are used, the author never claims of completeness or rigour. Distinction is made between terms that are physically correct and terms that are sometimes misleading, but enjoy widespread use in the NMR spectroscopy convention. The essential tools in quantum mechanics are outlined, product operator descriptions are used frequently and repetitively, that enhances understanding and provides more practice. Pictorial representations have been given where possible, a view-point beginners like myself find very useful.
One drawback, is a careful side-lining of the very important technique of using pulse-field gradients, although their cousin technique, named pulse-cycles is quite elaborately explained. I hope, the next issue of the book would also cover up this important technique.

Decent.......2005-09-26
This book does a pretty good job of explaining the basic concepts. But it doesn't seem to offer a complete coverage of the topics covered in the book.
Excellent for Physicist.......2004-02-07
We recently purchased this book and I find it extremely well written and useful. I would call it super for a physicist doing medical imaging research. The book reads like a reference text for a researcher. There are no cartoons or homework problems. The second edition is very up to date. The book could use some references to advanced information sources as it is a bit short on physics/mathematics details.
suitable for teaching medical physicist wannabes now.......2002-04-22
I currently own the first edition of this book, and after flipping throug this new expanded 2nd edition, I'll be upgrading soon. The first book is an excellent text to use for teaching radiology residents the principles of medical imaging. Now, this second edition with greatly expanded content and pictures looks like it would be suitable for teaching a course to medical physics students. All sections appear to be significantly expanded with the additional detail needed for medical physicists. Still excellent for residents, but might go into a little more detail than they need.
Kudos for an excellent textbook........2002-04-08
Opening the pages to this textbook is like stepping into a classroom. These authors obviously are not only experts in their respective subspecialties of medical physics, but they are also seasoned teachers of the art and science of this field of medicine. This is easily evidenced by the clarity of thought and completeness with which they treat each topic in this comprehensive, easily readable textbook. I highly recommend this textbook to all who have a need for such a clear, concise teaching of the many aspects of medical physics covered in this work.
Essential Physics Review.......2002-03-13
This text book is the most up to date and comprehensive text book available for radiology residents preparing for the ABR exam as of this date 3/12/2002. I have recommended this text for my most serious students and they have done quite well on the ABR exam. ( Most have scored in the > 90th percentile in the U.S.) For residents who want to just pass the exam, I recommend Sprawls text.

Silvio Souto, MD
Book Description
This textbook provides a true introduction to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which has become the dominant research technique in cognitive neuroscience. Although there is extraordinary interest in fMRI among researchers, instructors, and students alike, its instruction has faced a set of challenges. Existing texts are targeted toward practicing scientists in the field, and assume a level of expertise not possessed by most students. Furthermore, most students do not have access to fMRI equipment and data, so they have no opportunity to gain hands-on experience. This textbook overcomes these limitations by presenting a comprehensive overview of all aspects of fMRI, designed with undergraduate students, graduate students, and beginning researchers in mind.
The book progresses through 15 chapters. It begins with an introduction to fMRI and its history, principles, and technical requirements. The following several chapters cover the physics of fMRI, with careful attention devoted toward relating abstract concepts to research applications. Subsequent chapters cover the basic biological properties of the fMRI signal, including its spatial and temporal properties and its variability. Systematic discussions of research design and experimental analysis are included, and will be of particular interest to the many students with graduate or medical school aspirations. The book ends with discussions of future directions for fMRI, not only in terms of advances in understanding the brain and methodological improvements, but also in the integration of fMRI with other research techniques.
Included with every copy of the book is a comprehensive CD-ROM containing study questions for each chapter of the book, suggested lab exercises, fMRI data sets including both functional and anatomical data, a tools section, and compete glossary.
The authors' goal was to create a book that is sufficiently scientifically rigorous for researchers in the field, but also accessible enough to be easily read and understood by beginning students. All chapters are copiously illustrated, with key terms described in a marginal glossary, and have annotated lists of references. The book can be used as the primary text for classes in fMRI, or as a secondary text for cognitive neuroscience, research methods, or other courses.
Customer Reviews:
Oasis in the Magnetic Wilderness.......2007-05-07
This book is perfect for the new researcher trying to get a good grasp of the principles of fMRI. It covers the concepts, the engineering and experimental design of fMRI scanners and the studies they can be used for. The explanations are clear and made clearer still by the excellent use of analogy and pleasing diagrams. It even covers the basics of experimental design which really helps the novice. The book also comes with data sets which allow one to try out ones image processing skills.
This book is highly recommended for those studying for higher degrees and is almost unique in that it is far more accessible than any of its rivals. Highly recommended.
Great Book.......2005-08-29
