Book Description
The urgency for a global standard of excellence for those who protect the networked world has never been greater. (ISC)2 created the information security industry's first and only CBK®, a global compendium of information security topics.. Continually updated to incorporate rapidly changing technologies and threats, the CBK continues to serve as the basis for (ISC)2's education and certification programs. Written as an authoritative reference, the Official (ISC)2® Guide to the CISSP® CBK® provides a better understanding of the CISSP CBK - a collection of topics relevant to information security professionals around the world. Although the book still contains the ten domains of the CISSP, some of the domain titles have been revised to reflect changing terminology and emphasis in the security professional's day-to-day environment. The ten domains include: information security and risk management, access control, cryptography, physical (environmental) security, security architecture and design, business continuity (BCP) and disaster recovery planning (DRP), telecommunications and network security, application security, operations security, legal, regulations, and compliance and investigations. Endorsed by the (ISC)2, this valuable resource follows the newly revised CISSP CBK, providing reliable, current, and thorough information. Moreover, the Official (ISC)2® Guide to the CISSP® CBK® helps information security professionals gain awareness of the requirements of their profession and acquire knowledge validated by the CISSP certification.

Good material.......2007-08-28
I found the Shon Harris book easier to read, but I used this extensively as a reference when trying to strengthen my weaker areas.
Great CISSP Study Guide - Much Better then the first !!!.......2007-06-04
If you are thinking about taking the CISSP exam, I would highly recomend this book (and others as well). Think about it, why not read the book that is published by the ones who created & manage the test itself ? No brainer right ? This book is roughly 715 pages of reading and it is well put together. However, I stongly recomend that you also read the All-In-One CISSP by Shon Harris. You must keep in mind that the ISC CBK is written by multiple authors (each chapter is a different auther), so the melody of the book changes throughout. However, it is a great reference and should be included as your CISSP study guide.
Highly recomended !!

No better than the first one........2007-05-11
This book was no better than the first version. Don't waste your money you're not missing anything.
Decent Guide to the CISSP.......2007-03-26
I have read 4 books in my preparation for the CISSP. The All-in-One, Official CISSP CBK, CISSP Prep Guide, and the CISSP Exam Cram. This along with numerous study guides and several online courses. My overall comment is that I expected more from this book. It is extremely verbose and does not seem to "flow" like some of the other books. (Probably because it is written by numerous authors). The test questions at the end of each chapter are poorly written. It also seemed to lack some of the critical details I found in other books. The best overall guide I have found so far is the All-in-One (no big surprise). The official CISSP CBK did not provide any significant details you cannot find the All-in-one and it lacked details in several key areas.
Great overview, a few bugs though.......2007-03-12
This is a great overview of the CBK, presented by experts in each domain. The quality is good overall, but some of the chapters are a little choppy and contain typo and consistency errors (these are few and far between, though). The material is presented as a scholarly writing (as it should be) and isn't really appropriate for someone brand-new to the security field. This serves as a great reference guide for a CISSP (especially for the wealth of references in Law and Ethics domain).
Book Description
A Practitioner's Handbook for Real-Time Analysis: Guide to Rate
Monotonic Analysis for Real-Time Systems contains an invaluable collection of quantitative methods that enable real-time system developers to understand, analyze, and predict the timing behavior of many real-time systems. The methods are practical and theoretically sound, and can be used to assess design tradeoffs and to troubleshoot system timing behavior. This collection of methods is called rate monotonic analysis (RMA).
The
Handbook includes a framework for describing and categorizing the timing aspects of real-time systems, step-by-step techniques for performing timing analysis, numerous examples of real-time situations to which the techniques can be applied, and two case studies.
A Practitioner's Handbook for Real-Time Analysis: Guide to Rate
Monotonic Analysis for Real-Time Systems has been created to serve as a definitive source of information and a guide for developers as they analyze and design real-time systems using RMA. The
Handbook is an excellent reference, and may be used as the text for advanced courses on the subject.
Customer Reviews:
A must-have book for Real-Time system designers/programmers.......1998-07-21
This book is a rare commodity in the area of Real-Time systems. While there are several books on programming in general and object oriented methods in specific for real-time and embedded developers, few approach the subject from timing prodictability point of view.
In several ways, this book has first appeared way ahead of its time. When the processing capacity itself was not available, several embedded developers were more concerned about optimizing their applications for that elusive 'speed' than being worried about building fully predictable systems using proven design methodologies geared towards guaranteeing timing predictability, which inheretly introduce certain inefficiencies in common perception. Therefore, these techniques were deemed to be applicable to only those exotic world of 'hard-real time' systems such as defense, nuclear and not to mere mortals.
With modern processors becoming more and more powerful and devices being targeted to mass markets (e.g! ., set-top boxes, personal communication devices, home automation etc) the market is ready to demand (and of course, get) timing predictability out of embedded devices. Developers therefore need standard books like this and standard software tools (e.g., TimeWiz) to meet this shifting paradigm.
The methods described in this book can be looked at a precursor to a set of "structured methods" for designing real-time systems, based upon temporal modeling (as opposed to object modelling).

Book Description
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is one of the most important applications areas for high-performance computing, setting the pace for developments in scientific computing. Anyone who wants to design a new parallel computer or develop a new software tool must understand the issues involved in CFD in order to be successful.
The demands of CFD, particularly in the aerospace and automotive industries, coupled with the emergence of more powerful generations of parallel supercomputers, have led naturally to work on parallel computational fluid dynamics; and initial results from using parallel machines to study the properties of liquids and gases in motion are promising.
Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics provides the first survey of this rapidly developing field. Drawn. from such different disciplines as mechanical and aeronautical engineering, computer science, and numerical methods, contributions cover implementations of CFD codes on commercially available large-scale parallel systems, studies of parallel numerical algorithms for CFD applications, and discussions of computer science topics with direct application to parallel CFD.
Researchers will find that Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics serves a number of needs. It presents the expertise of multidisciplinary research groups that will make it possible to succeed in solving the "grand challenge" problems stimulated by the new national High Performance Computing and Communication Program. It offers aeronautical or mechanical engineers an excellent introduction to what has been accomplished in the last few years in CFD on parallel machines. And it provides researchers in the areas of hardware, software, and algorithms with a useful survey of CFD's computational requirements as well as a source of applications to test out new ideas.

Book Description
Digital technology has had a major impact on the production and experience of art during the past decade and a half. Not only have traditional forms of art such as printing, painting, photography, and sculpture been transformed by digital techniques and media, but entirely new forms such as net art, software art, digital installation, and virtual reality have emerged as recognized practices, collected by major museums, institutions, and private collectors the world over.
Christiane Paul surveys digital art from its appearance in the early 1990s up to the present day. Drawing a distinction between work that uses digital technology as a tool to produce traditional forms and work that uses it as a medium to create new types of art, she discusses all the key artists and works. The book explores themes addressed by and raised by the art, such as viewer interaction, artificial life and intelligence, political and social activism, networks, and telepresence, as well as issues such as the collection, presentation, and preservation of digital art, the virtual museum, and ownership and copyright. 180 illustrations, 100 in color.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good.......2002-11-15
This is the best material processing book for lasers that I know of. A good starter and reference book. The only other good source of reading that I know of are the LIA publications. Most importantly it describes in a surprisingly clear way the properties of a beam as they relate to processing, and good basic equations for heat transfer.
Basic but very informative.......2000-09-16
This book is amazingly good for those who are new in this field. It starts from the scratch and then makes your concepts. I think everybody should have one copy.
Best book on laser material processing, with nice pictures.......1997-06-04
You can't think of a process in the laser business that isn't described in this book. Especially if you are an not a pro in laserstuff but still interested in the basics of laserprocessing, like welding, hardening, cutting etc.
Every chapter ends with a funny cartoon on something to do with the subject of that chapter. This comes in handy for presentations or other intermezzos.
But this cannot be called a shallow book, some real tough formulas can be found here, they are explained so well though, you can really understand them after only reading them twice or so.
Actually if you want to publish stuff in this field you might consider using this book as a reference. It is that good.
