Customer Reviews:
A great book on Casting.......2006-11-10
I have been casting for a few years at this point but C.W. Ammen is the best authority on the subject.
I re-learned a few things as I read this book. Anyone who does metal casting SHOULD own this book.
Remember always be safe.
Great book for beginners.......2006-01-30
This book is great for newbies to Metal casting, it provides great details in creating molds, furnaces, and the do's and don'ts.
It gives several different types of molds from sand molds to plaster molds, and gives the advantages and disavantages of both. It explains the various types of furnaces from coke, propane, to waste oil. Finally it gives in perfect detail the causes for various abnormalties in your caste. . .
Great book to get started with. .
solid........2005-09-13
This text is great for the sand molder. There is a depth of knowledge that few others can illustrate in a clear manner. Also notable is the glossary of casting terms that takes up the last half of the book with drawings and clear language. I would recommend that every beginning metal caster buy this item, and every experienced caster peek at it when nobody is looking. Thumbs Up!
His book Cast Iron is the bible for ferrous metals.
Metalcasting.......2002-11-10
This is a big thick paperback book, that you might think goes into great detail and has a lot of descriptions. Unfortunatly, there is just some background and and brief descriptions of different things. Also, almost half the book is devoted to a glossary. If you want to find out about sand casting, "The complete Sand Casting Manual" also written by him though still not complete, is the book for you.
Metalcasting.......2000-02-20
If you do not have any other books by the author, C. W. Ammen, then this is a good book. However, if you already have "The Metalcaster's Bible" or "Complete Handbook of Sandcasting" then you already have 90% of this book.
Most of the illustrations and definitions are right out of these other two books. I was dissappointed with this book because I already had the other two books and bought this book for the new information it contained. There's a picture of a permanent mold being poured on the cover with no further explanation in the book about it. Just a short definition. I had bought this book because I thought it dealt with this process in depth. It does not. The cover is misleading.
There is however, a good section on building your own burn out oven for investment casting which is not in any of his other books.
As in his other books, some of the definitions are somewhat sketchy. He refers to "sharp sand" throughout the book with no definition of what it is. He tells of a Nitric Acid test for silicon where you let the mixture boil. Does this mean dissolving the metal (bubbling) or actually boiling the acid over a stove. If you try the latter, it could have severe consequences.
If I saw this book in a bookstore and had a chance to glance through the pages, I would not have bought it as it's almost a direct copy of his other books. If I did not have his other books, I would buy "The complete Handbook of Sand Casting" or the "Metal Caster's Bible" as they contain the same information and illustrations and are half the price.

Book Description
A step-by-step guide to the design and analysis of CMOS operational amplifiers and comparators
This volume is a comprehensive text that offers a detailed treatment of the analysis and design principles of two of the most important components of analog metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) circuits, namely operational amplifiers (op-amps) and comparators. The book covers the physical operation of these components, their design procedures, and applications to analog MOS circuits-particularly those involving switched-capacitor circuits, and analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converters. Roubik Gregorian, a leading authority in the field, gives circuit designers the technical knowledge they need to design high-performance op-amps and comparators suitable for most analog circuit applications. In this self-contained treatment, which is loosely based on his well-received 1986 book, Analog MOS Integrated Circuits for Signal Processing (coauthored with Gabor C. Temes), Gregorian reviews the required basics before advancing to state-of-the-art topics and problem-solving techniques. This valuable guide:
* Clearly explains configuration and performance limitation issues affecting the operation of CMOS op-amps and comparators
* Details advanced design procedures to improve performance
* Provides practical design examples suitable for a broad range of analog circuit applications
* Incorporates hundreds of illustrations into the text
* Concludes each chapter with problems and references to advanced topics, useful in textbook adoptions
Introduction to CMOS Op-Amps and Comparators is invaluable for analog and mixed-signal designers, for senior and graduate students in electrical engineering, and for anyone who would like to keep up with this essential technology.
Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive treatment of op-amps and comparators........1999-05-27
This book focuses on two most important components of analog design: op-amps and comparators. A lot of new developments in recent years are covered in this book. It is very useful for any analog designers. I just feel two chapters which cover data converters could be more detailed and complete.

Book Description
Fibre metal laminates were developed at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, from the beginning of the 1980s. This is a new family of hybrid materials consisting of thin metal layers bonded together by fibres embedded in an adhesive. As a result of this build-up, fibre metal laminates possess a mixture of the characteristics of both metals and composite materials. Initial development led to the `Arall' variant using aramid fibres, which was first applied on the C-17 military transport aircraft around 1990. Large-scale application became possible with a variant using glass fibres, dubbed `Glare', which was selected for the Airbus A380 super jumbo in 2001. This is the first book to discuss these new materials and it deals mostly with Glare. It covers most of the relevant aspects of the materials, from static mechanical properties, fatigue and impact to design, production and maintenance of aircraft structures. This book contains the basic information on these new materials necessary for engineers and aircraft operators alike.

Customer Reviews:
photocopy.......2007-04-18
This book is so shoddily put together. It's a photocopy even the cover. This is a shame because the content looks good but I certainly would not have bought this book at this price if I'd seen it in a book shop.
Was this a joke?.......2007-04-18
I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened my much anticipated package and found a photocopied leaflet, for which I paid $11.99. I can get that kind of information off the internet for free. I truly believe this book was not realistically represented. I am so disappointed and I think you will be as well.
photocopy leaflet.......2007-02-10
I recieved a photocopied booklet for my $11.99. I would not recommend this at all! It is a tad ridiculous!
Extra information.......2007-01-10
This is an interesting look at a different approach to working with Precious Metal Clay with clay paper and syringe. I would reccommend this if you are intersted in this style of work. But it's really a small booklet, not a book, and I'm not sure you couldn't find this information as part of a larger book. I think you can learn something new from almost any book or article about this product, so for the bits of info I didn't catch anywhere else, I'm glad I purchased it. It's clear, concise, and easy to follow.
Customer Reviews:
Great book... Well worth the money.......2007-04-02
I love this book, it gives a lot of ideas, not only using clay, but also money saver ideas. It offers ideas for making a home made clay dryers and others. It also gives a complete list of needed items, some of which most people already have rather than going out and buying un-needed things.
Lots of interesting designs, and ideas to create..
Wonderful Reference Book.......2006-10-19
Whether you are a novice or a long time PMC'er, this book is a must. I am constantly going through it for references to a technique. LOVE IT!
Great for beginners........2006-03-18
Wonderful step-by-step book for beginners. It exposes you to various design elements of PMC and really helps the beginner understand how everything fits together without going too in depth. From a beginner's standpoint, I would have liked to have seen a better picture of what the finished product should have looked like at the end of each project, but that would not stop me from buying the book.
Very Informative and Will be a big Help.......2005-07-25
I ordered this Book to see if I really wanted to invest in going to a craft Camp for a week and taking this new medium. It has convinced me to go.
Also it has convinced me that I can do this at home with very little outlay of expenses for tools. Most of us have quite a bit to the things we need right at home.
The big thing is ordering the PMC itself.
I started out buying Polymer Clay to play with first, then have gone on to the more expensive PMC. Now I am to the point of wnating to invest in a special PMC oven. It does have a digital heat regulator. so be sure you can afford to get into this medium.. and This Book will help you decide.
Excellent Resource for PMC Info.......2004-03-16
This book is an excellent reference for anyone who works with PMC. It is clearly written so a novice can follow, as well as provide backup to an expert looking for firing temp, time or options for glass, gold, etc. I looked at several books before deciding on this one - it has a good mix of expert advice and project inspiration.

Wildfire 2.0 Sheetmetal Review.......2006-02-22
Although the content is O.K. I'm very disappointed with the book itself. It's all in black and white with no color. The pictures are not very bad- hard to see, especially with no color. The paper is very low quality and the entire book is only a quarter inch thick or so with a paper cover. If I had only paid $10-20 for the book it would be all right but $60 is a little hard to swallow. I realize this is a technical manual but for the price I believe it should be of higher quality.

A Useful, but not "Must have" book.......2007-06-27
-This is not a book for hack n' slash munchkins ;) If you like some background info you can slip into games regarding herbs (real and imaginary), weird alchemy and so on, it's kind of fun.
-There are useful magic items and things you can add into games, or make with Alchemy skill and so on.
-One thing it should have had, IMHO, is a table of poisons and beneficial chemicals, and that over sight prevents it being more widely useable and thus, makes it a 4 rather than 5 star item, sorry!
-My copy came with two badly printed/damage pages, Murphy's law, I should have returne dit but...meh.
So, a good item if you plan on playing a more, oh "Hosgwart" or "Cadfael" inspired game (and I don't mean that in a negative way, Cadfael is a fave of mine), or one where alchemy is an important part of the millieu.
