Fmoc Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis: A Practical Approach (Practical Approach Series)
Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0199637245 |
Book Description
In the years since the publication of Atherton and Sheppard's volume, the technique of Fmoc solid-phase peptide synthesis has matured considerably and is now the standard approach for the routine production of peptides. The basic problems at the time of publication of this earlier work have now for the most part, been solved. As a result, innovators in the field have focussed their efforts to develop methodologies and chemistry for the synthesis of more complex structures. The focus of this new volume is much broader, and covers the essential procedures for the production of linear peptides and more advanced techniques for preparing cyclic, side-chain modified, phospho- and glycopeptides. Many other methods also deserving attention have been included: convergent peptide synthesis; peptide-protein conjugation; chemoselective ligation; and chemoselective purification. The difficult preparation of cysteine and methionine-containing peptides is also covered, as well as methods for overcoming aggregation during peptide chain assembly. Many of the techniques developed for the production of large arrays of peptides by parallel synthesis, such as t-bag, SPOT and PIN synthesis, have naturally been included. Finally, a survey of available automated instrumentation has also been provided.Customer Reviews:

Chemistry of Peptide Synthesis
N. Leo Benoiton Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 1574444549 |
Book Description
Chemistry of Peptide Synthesis is a complete overview of how peptides are synthesized and what techniques are likely to generate the most desirable reactions. Incorporating elements from the author's role of Career Investigator of the Medical Research Council of Canada and his extensive teaching career, the book emphasizes learning rather than memorization. The text uses clear language and schematics to present concepts progressively, carefully excluding unnecessary details and providing a historical context in which to appreciate the development of the field. The author first outlines the fundamentals of peptide synthesis, focusing on the intermediates in aminolysis reactions. Gradually the text builds into discussions of the applicability of coupling reactions, stereomutation, methods of deprotection, solid-phase synthesis, side-chain protection and side reactions, and amplification on coupling methods. The book clarifies the differences between oxazolones from amino-acid derivatives and segments and the implications of their formation on the chiral integrity of products. The author offers a critical analysis of the mechanisms of coupling reactions and the desirability of preactivation. The text explains hindrance and the nucleophilicity of tertiary amines and rationalizes their use. The book also explores mechanisms of acidolysis and the dual role of nucleophiles as reactants and scavengers. Chemistry of Peptide Synthesis supplies a broad, yet straightforward approach that appeals to those with limited knowledge of organic chemistry or chemists from other fields as well as in-depth coverage that can be appreciated by experienced peptidologists.

Amino Acid and Peptide Synthesis (Oxford Chemistry Primers, 7)
John Jones Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0199257388 |
Book Description
The study of amino acids and peptides is becoming increasingly important to chemists becuase of the growing overlap of mainstream organic chemistry with bioorganic chemistry and biochemistry. This introductory text begins with a brief survey of the role and diversity of amino acids, peptides, and proteins in nature, and goes on to describe and explain the principal methods of chemical synthesis. With its emphasis on chemical principles and strategies rather than detailed technical matters, the book will be essential reading for all students of chemistry and biochemistry with an interest in this important field. This second edition contains extensive additions and adjustments, to present a completely up-to-date account of the chemical essentials of mainstream peptide synthesis.Customer Reviews:
