Book Description
This revision brings the reader completely up to date on the evolving methods associated with increasingly more complex sample types analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC. The book also incorporates updated discussions of many of the fundamental components of HPLC systems and practical issues associated with the use of this analytical method. This edition includes new or expanded treatments of sample preparation, computer assisted method development, as well as biochemical samples, and chiral separations.
Customer Reviews:
A great book - information overload.......2002-07-16
This is a very useful reference to have if you work extensively on HPLC. I find its of more use to understand concepts ...there is a lot of information here.
Which means - if you are looking for a solution to a problem and you want to research separation theory - a great book.
If your looking for a quick fix to an HPLC problem - not as good. This is a detailed, extensive and well written text on HPLC Method development - wish there was more on validation here though.
Plactical and Rational method Development!.......2000-03-15
Rational Method development for HPLC is resented. Instruction of rational development of 3-solvent separation system is excellent. This book also has useful know-hows and tools in practical laboratory experiments, such as strength of hydrogen bonding of base silica and nomograph for estimation of "solvent strength" for reversed phase HPLC.
an excellent book on pratical HPLC.......1998-01-20
The book is useful for gerenal operator who are both novice and expert. It do is pratice. It's better give another chapter for troubleshooting and maintence.

Customer Reviews:
Great intro to HPLC.......2003-09-05
I have recently been put in charge of an HPLC while having little experience in the field. This book was invaluable in developing my technique and was a gem as far as trouble-shooting goes (which I needed quite badly, I made a lot of mistakes at first). The only downside is that there hasn't been a new edition in almost 10 years, DAD and some of the processing have changed quite a lot and I would like to see that included if a future edition is made.
Useful text for beginning HPLC user.......1998-09-11
This was the most useful and straightforward text I came across in my search for HPLC information. As a beginning user, I found the sections on troubleshooting, column aging diagnosis and healing, and method development to be invaluable in getting an HPLC system up and running in a new laboratory. I would highly recommend this reference tool to beginning users who do not have the opportunity to interact with an experienced HPLC user. One consideration when choosing this book is that it does not go into detail on any theory behind method development; however, it does offer sound advice on developing methods.

Book Description
Gradient elution demystified
Of the various ways in which chromatography is applied today, few have been as misunderstood as the technique of gradient elution, which presents many challenges compared to isocratic separation. When properly explained, however, gradient elution can be less difficult to understand and much easier to use than often assumed.
Written by two well-known authorities in liquid chromatography, High-Performance Gradient Elution: The Practical Application of the Linear-Solvent-Strength Model takes the mystery out of the practice of gradient elution and helps remove barriers to the practical application of this important separation technique. The book presents a systematic approach to the current understanding of gradient elution, describing theory, methodology, and applications across many of the fields that use liquid chromatography as a primary analytical tool.
This up-to-date, practical, and comprehensive treatment of gradient elution:
* Provides specific, step-by-step recommendations for developing a gradient separation for any sample
* Describes the best approach for troubleshooting problems with gradient methods
* Guides the reader on the equipment used for gradient elution
* Lists which conditions should be varied first during method development, and explains how to interpret scouting gradients
* Explains how to avoid problems in transferring gradient methods
With a focus on the use of linear solvent strength (LSS) theory for predicting gradient LC behavior and separations by reversed-phase HPLC, High-Performance Gradient Elution gives every chromatographer access to this useful tool.
