Book Description
As the need to reduce pollution in textile production increases, the use of enzymes in the chemical processing of fibres and textiles is rapidly gaining recognition for its eco-friendly and non-toxic characteristics. Enzymes are a safe alternative in a wide range of textile processes that would otherwise require harsh chemicals whose disposal would pose environmental problems. Textile Processing with Enzymes covers all of the relevant issues from basic biochemistry and enzymology to the industrial application of these biocatalysts. The book begins with the fundamental aspects of enzymes determining catalytic properties, followed by a summary of fibrous and non-fibrous materials as substrates for enzymes. It discusses catalysis and processing, with an overview of the function and application of enzymes used in textile processing, and addresses process engineering and industrial enzyme applications. The final chapters present the practical aspects of handling enzymes, provide a detailed look at operational and storage stabilities, and consider the use of enzymes in effluent treatment. As a comprehensive guide to textile processing with enzymes, this book explains the applications that are transforming the industry. It is a valuable resource for scientists and engineers with a basic background in textiles, biotechnology, chemistry, or engineering, as well as students interested in the subject.
Book Description
This book is designed to introduce plastics to a wide range of non-chemists who need to either gain, improve, or refresh their knowledge of plastic materials and manufacturing. It fully discusses both materials and manufacturing processes in a carefully-constructed and logical presentation. While providing a fundamental overview of a broad spectrum of topics, this book’s high level of detail makes it valuable as a professional reference manual.
Complete examination of materials, processes and performance of plastics includes many recent developments–at the molecular, micro and macro levels–such as conductive polymers, nano technology, biodegradable polymers, bio-based raw materials, twin-sheet thermoforming, and health considerations of plasticizers.
Appropriate as a reference manual by manufacturing engineers, chemical engineers, plastics engineers, mechanical engineers, industrial engineers, or any other engineer working in a plastics-oriented company.
Customer Reviews:
Good for processing.......2003-04-04
This book is written a very understandable and readable style. It seems to be very good and thorough in the processing areas. There are a number of errors in the first few chapters on structure, so if you use this book you should supplement it with something else.
Excellent Resource for Many Reasons.......2002-02-25
From my particular perspective, Brent Strong's text on plastics is valuable because it is one of the very few places one can turn for a substantial discussion of high-energy radiation processing of plastics by means such as e-beams, microwaves, UV light, and plasmas. E-beam processing of plastics to impart commercially valuable improvements in their physical properties is especially well covered.
excellent book.......2001-08-21
I have used this book as a reference and for teaching a Plastics Course in Mechanical Engineering. It is very easy to read, it does not get into too much confusing details about the chemistry - it explains the chemical fundamentals very easily. It does a great job of relating plastic structures with actual properties such as permeability, strength and conductivity. All my students consider a great book. It is one of the best written books I have encountered during my academic career. Worth its weight in gold !!
Plastic: materials and processing.......2000-06-23
Very helpfull and usefull book for everyone who would like to know about plastic materials technology.

Book Description
In this comprehensive book, plastics engineers, designers, and manufacturers discover how to exploit the latest techniques of measuring the rheological properties of molten and viscoelastic plastics. Fully examined is the role of polymer rheology in various melt processing operations, along with specialized areas.
Customer Reviews:
One of the most concise and excellent books in rheology.......2002-02-20
I have found this book as the reader friendly in a wide spectrum of books available on polymer rheology. The authors have maintained a fine balance between mathematical theory and physical explanations. Therefore, one can get a feel of the subject while learning through this book. The language of the book is also lucid.
I highly recommend this book for someone who wants to know what the equations and the theories in rheology means.
Last but not least, considering the progress in last few years on theoretical front, this book needs a revision!

Self-Doped Conducting Polymers
ASIN: 1420043609 |
Book Description
Many significant fundamental concepts and practical applications have developed since the publication of the best-selling second edition of the Handbook of Conducting Polymers. Now divided into two books, the third edition continues to retain the excellent expertise of the editors and world-renowned contributors while providing superior coverage of the recent advances in polymer processing and applications, particularly in conductivity, nonlinear optics, and light emission. Conjugated Polymers: Processing and Applications, the second of two volumes, picks up where the first volume ended. It concentrates on the numerous processing methods for conducting polymers and their integration into various devices and applications. The book first examines coating, printing, and spinning methods for complex patterned films and fibers. It then shows how conducting and semiconducting polymers are applied in many devices, such as light-emitting displays, solar cells, field effect transistors, electrochromic panels, charge storage devices, biosensors, and actuators. Following the essential scientific information found in the first installment, this book explores the ways in which polymers are useful in industrial and commercial applications. These application developments have already led to marketable products.

Customer Reviews:
Good textbook for undergraduate students.......2006-04-28
This book is a good textbook for undergraduate and practicing engineers who are not so familiar with polymer processing, as it is written in plain English and easy too read. The volume is compact.
Introductions of more advanced topics are also given, and differentiated by shading. This is a good idea. If you were interested in more advanced topics, then you could learn from literatures cited.
