Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars Might be better with separate outlines on each topic.......2007-03-04

I used this outline for review and with some problems I was having in a course on computational robotics I was taking a couple of years ago and I found this book to be an excellent review that answered all of my questions. However, my stepson used it in his statics and dynamics classes to help with the material when it was being presented to him for the first time, and he said he felt it brushed over some of the material in both classes. Even though this is a hefty outline, perhaps it would be better if they dedicated separate Schaum's outlines to each subject - statics and dynamics - and covered more ground in each subject rather than putting both subjects in the same book. This outline even has one chapter on mechanical vibrations, but it is just barely an overview and hardly gets into the subject at all. It might be best if that chapter were deleted entirely and more space spent on the subjects at hand.

4 out of 5 stars Good supplementary text.......2002-09-08

I have always liked the Schaum's series of books. They are straightforward and to the point. This text was no exception.

The most important aspect of this book is that it can be used as a supplement to most of the popular texts. I used it along with Beer & Johnston and Shames.

Quite a useful book on a difficult, hands-on subject.

5 out of 5 stars A good supliment.......2002-07-02

I have had Statics and will be taking Dynamic's next semester. I bought this book so I could get a head start on next semester as I heard the professor is tough and the material is difficult.

The parts that cover Statics were a very good supliment to what I had learned last semester. Kind of like the Reader's Digest version, I couldn't figure out what parts they had left out. It seemed pretty complete to me. They even covered stuff we didn't. We didn't have anything in our class wrt differential equations, but this book did. Since I have had diff eq, it was nice to see it being put to use and I learned something.

On the Dynamic's side, it is a bit of a tough go. I am using this as a primary/only text and do not have the benifit of an instructor. I am wading through slowly. I wish there was a bit more explination before the examples. This is where an in class text book would be helpful. I believe that this book will be a valuable resource when I actually start the class.

2 out of 5 stars Inadequate subject coverage.......2007-01-19

I picked up this book to review statics and mechanics of materials and found it missing much fundamental information on the subject. No mention was made of the concept of Mohr's Circle which is useful in visualizing computation of combined stress states. The solved problems tend to be inadequate in explaining the subject. It was helpful however to have statics and mechanics of materials in a single text (a bargain buy!). Pick another text to either learn or review this subject.

2 out of 5 stars Mediocraty at it's finest.......2005-02-09

The book isn't overall bad, but the explanations assume a strong comprehension of the subject. As for statics and mechanics, it is merely a few select cases, and fails to actually help. Several vital steps are omitted outright, so you'd be better off skipping this book, and searching for a question and answer bank.

The book begins with 13 pages of content review that includes excellent graphics, tables, and graphs. This is followed by an 8 page section on pedagogical strategies. The heart of the book, of course, is the set of 24 activities, evenly distributed between states of matter and changes of state. Each activity is clearly laid out with the following sections: time required, key science topics, student background (if required), national science education standards, additional process skills (for some activities), materials - for getting ready - for the procedure - for the extensions, safety and disposal, getting ready, introducing the activity, procedure, variations and extensions, explanation, assessment suggestions, cross-curricular integration, and handout masters that are worth the price of the book even if you already do some of these activities. Excellent graphics add to this outstanding resource. Nice extras at the end of the book include 6 masters for assessment models and a list of suppliers for materials that might need to be ordered. (Most of the activities use common materials.)

Activities: (1) Properties of Matter (2) BedBugs (3) Mystery Eggs (4) Balloon in a Bottle (5) Burping Bottle (6) Tissue in a Cup (7) Showing That Air Has Mass (8) Marshmallow in a Syringe (9) Moving Molecules (10) Non-Newtonian Fluids (11) Rock Candy Crystals (12) Crystals from Solutions (13) Crystals by Freezing (14) Boiling Water in a Paper Pot (15) Boiling Liquids in a Syringe (16) Boiling Water with Ice (17) Liquid to Gas in a Flick (18) Disappearing Air Freshener (19) A Cool Phase Change (20) Using Dry Ice to Inflate a Balloon (21) The Phase Changes of Carbon Dioxide (22) Balloon-into-a-Flask Challenge (23) Crushing an Aluminum Can (24) Hats Off to the Drinking Bird

One more thing: I also think that many of these activities could be done at the high school level, although you might choose to modify the hand-out questions.

    Book Description

A pop-can speedster illustrates the conversion of elastic potential energy to kinetic energy. An Operation game becomes a lesson on electronic circuits. Simple machines built with Lego kits demonstrate the principals of levers, gears, and pulleys. Is it fun, or is it science? It's both! Classroom-tested and developed with funding from the National Science Foundation, Teaching Energy with Toys helps instructors teach about mechanical energy and energy conversion with confidence and students' full attention. Using toys, games, and hands-on activities, the experiments in this jam-packed resource book convey complex science principals to young people more vividly and effectively than any textbook on the market. All toys can be inexpensively purchased or created by students with readily-available household materials. Each motivating lesson, which includes reproducible activities and integrated cross-curricular connections, is linked to the NSTA's National Standards for Science Education, and is perfectly suited for home or school instruction.

4 out of 5 stars Good Resource for Teachers of Science.......2000-08-09

Like the other books in the "TOYS" series from Terrific Science Press, this book is an excellent resource. Although the cover indicates an intended audience of grades 4-8, I think the most of the 21 activities could be used with high school students as well.

The book includes a 10-page section on pedagogical strategies that is specific to the content of the activities and that also includes a sample assessment rubric. There is also a 13-page content review that I found to be both clear and useful.

Each activity is clearly laid out with the following sections: time required, key science topics, student background (if required), national science education standards, additional process skills (for some activities), materials - for getting ready - for introducing the activity - for the procedure - for the extensions, safety and disposal, getting ready, introducing the activity, procedure, variations and extensions, explanation, assessment suggestions (for some activities), cross-curricular integration, suggestions for further reading, and handout masters for some of the activities.

Although I like this book, I found myself a bit frustrated as I tried to find the toys needed for some of the activities. I found some, but not others. Some items are easy; we can all find LEGO's. Other items are more difficult. I bought out the toy store's end of summer clearance stock on the Explorer Gun a few years back. This year, it took me a few nights searching the web to find a distributor. I gave the book 4-stars because of this problem; it might mean that not all of the activities will be useable. I put an asterisk after those activities requiring items I found difficult to locate. You may be luckier.

Activities: (1) What Makes It Go? (2) The Toy That Returns (3) How Much Energy (4) Exploring Energy with an Explorer Gun®* (5) Pop Can Speedster (6) Ladybug, Ladybug, Roll Away (7) Rubber Band Airplane (8) Slingshot Physics* (requires a Sling Thing™) (9) The Catapult Gun* (requires the Insect Gun®) (10) Loop-the-Loop Challenge* (requires a Darda® car) (11) Homemade Roller Coaster (12) Bounceability (13) The Energy Transformation Game* (requires the Guess Who® game) (14) Drop 'n' Popper (15) Apply Your Energy Knowledge (16) Doc Shock* (requires the Operation® game) (17) Make Your Own Motor (18) Chemical Energy Transformations (19) Simple Machines with LEGO® (20) Get it in Gear with a LEGO® Vehicle (21) Squish 'em, Squash 'em, Squoosh 'em* (requires the Grape Escape® game)

      Book Description

Capillary Forces in Microassembly discusses the use of capillary forces as a gripping principle in microscale assembly. Clearly written and well-organized, this text brings together physical concepts at the microscale with practical applications in micromanipulation. Throughout this work, the reader will find a review of the existing gripping principles, elements to model capillary forces as well as descriptions of the simulation and experimental test bench developed to study the design parameters. Using well-known concepts from surface science (such as surface tension, capillary effects, wettability, and contact angles) as inputs to mechanical models, the amount of effort required to handle micro-components is predicted. These developments are then applied in a case study concerning the pick and place of balls in a watch ball bearing.

Researchers and engineers involved in micromanipulation and precision assembly will find this a highly useful reference for microassembly system design and analysis.

An up-to-date and unparalleled in-depth treatment of all kinds of flow phenomena encountered in centrifugal pumps is given, including the complex interactions of fluid flow with vibrations and wear of materials. The scope includes all aspects of hydraulic design, 3D-flow phenomena and partload operation, cavitation, numerical flow calculations, hydraulic forces, pressure pulsations, noise, pump vibrations (notably bearing housing vibrations diagnostics and remedies), pipe vibrations, pump characteristics and pump operation, the effects of highly viscous flows, pumping of gas-liquid mixtures, hydraulic transport of solids, fatigue damage to impellers or diffusers, material selection under the aspects of fatigue, corrosion, erosion-corrosion or hydro-abrasive wear, pump selection, and hydraulic quality criteria. Information on the methods and procedures for the various calculations and failure diagnostics discussed in the text are presented in tables which may be considered almost unique in the open literature. This comprehensive handbook focuses on practical application in the industry and is free of mathematical or theoretical ballast. In order to find viable solutions in practice, the physical mechanisms involved must be thoroughly understood. The book is focused on fostering this understanding which will benefit the pump engineer in industry as well as academia and students.

          Book Description

This work treats structural and continuum mechanics in a unified and consistent manner.

All theoretical developments are presented both in the text and by means of an extensive set of figures. Text and figures complement each other, and this twofold presentation is also used in the examples. Volume 2 covers stresses and strains in simple elements subjected to extension, bending, shear and torsion. For elementary structures like trusses, beams and frames, displacements due to simple loads are obtained using both classical mathematical descriptions with differential equations and engineering methods like Williot diagrams for (simple) trusses and "forget-me-nots" and moment-area formulae for bending.
