Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Clear, up-to-date coverage of methods for analyzing geographical information in a GIS context

Geographic Information Analysis presents clear and up-to-date coverage of the foundations of spatial analysis in a geographic information systems environment. Focusing on the universal aspects of spatial data and their analysis, this book covers the scientific assumptions and limitations of methods available in many geographic information systems.

Throughout, the fundamental idea of a map as a realization of a spatial stochastic process is central to the discussion. Key spatial concepts are covered, including point pattern, line objects and networks, area objects, and continuous fields. Analytical techniques for each of these are addressed, as are methods for combining maps, exploring multivariate data, and performing computationally intensive analysis. Appendixes provide primers on basic statistics and linear algebra using matrices.

Complete with chapter objectives, summaries, "thought exercises," a wealth of explanatory diagrams, and an annotated bibliography, Geographic Information Analysis is a practical book for students, as well as a valuable resource for researchers and professionals in the industry.

    Book Description

A novel, practical approach to modeling spatial uncertainty.

This book deals with statistical models used to describe natural variables distributed in space or in time and space. It takes a practical, unified approach to geostatistics-integrating statistical data with physical equations and geological concepts while stressing the importance of an objective description based on empirical evidence. This unique approach facilitates realistic modeling that accounts for the complexity of natural phenomena and helps solve economic and development problems-in mining, oil exploration, environmental engineering, and other real-world situations involving spatial uncertainty.

Up-to-date, comprehensive, and well-written, Geostatistics: Modeling Spatial Uncertainty explains both theory and applications, covers many useful topics, and offers a wealth of new insights for nonstatisticians and seasoned professionals alike. This volume:
    * Reviews the most up-to-date geostatistical methods and the types of problems they address.
    * Emphasizes the statistical methodologies employed in spatial estimation.
    * Presents simulation techniques and digital models of uncertainty.
    * Features more than 150 figures and many concrete examples throughout the text.
    * Includes extensive footnoting as well as a thorough bibliography.

Geostatistics: Modeling Spatial Uncertainty is the only geostatistical book to address a broad audience in both industry and academia. An invaluable resource for geostatisticians, physicists, mining engineers, and earth science professionals such as petroleum geologists, geophysicists, and hydrogeologists, it is also an excellent supplementary text for graduate-level courses in related subjects.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!.......2000-03-16

Highly recommended! This is easily the most comprehensive, scholarly, and up-to-date work in the area.

The authors cover the entire range of geostatistics - structural analysis (variogram fitting), kriging, multivariate and nonlinear methods, conditional simulation, scale effects, and inverse problems. The chapter on geostatistical simulation is particularly impressive, and much unpublished work of Georges Matheron and the Center for Geostatistics at Fontainebleau, France, is made available here for the first time. Practical and theoretical aspects of geostatistics balance each other very nicely.

This is not an introductory text - there are other books in the area which are custom-tailored to beginners - but it is an invaluable, and very carefully written, reference. For anyone applying geostatistical techniques in environmental sciences, earth sciences, engineering, or related fields, this book is a must-have!

5 out of 5 stars the reference book in geostatistics.......2000-02-17

There are a large number of books on geostatistics, usually introductory books dealing with parts of the subject. The volume by Chiles and Delfiner is THE comprehensive reference book in geostatistics that has been missing up to now.

It covers every part of geostatistics. After a useful introduction and preliminaries, different chapters are devoted successively to structural analysis, kriging, the intrinsic model of order k, multivariate methods, nonlinear methods, conditional simulations, scale effects and inverse problems.

Within each section, the book offers an accurate perspective of the different geostatistical methods. Practical approaches as well as theoretical developments are jointly considered, providing a sound basis to the user.

The writing is fluent, with an extensive documentation and a most helpful index.

The book will benefit those who want to know more about a specific method, as well as those who are looking for different approaches to a given problem. It will be valuable for academics and students, as well as scientists, engineers and practitioners from different domains such as mining, hydrogeology, oil exploration, soil science, forestry, and environmental sciences.

5 out of 5 stars Readable Time Series Book.......2007-04-24

I have found this book very helpful. I am a Clinical Psychologist with a strong research background, yet have had difficulty understanding the very technical 8+ Time Series books I have read thus far. This book is relatively easy to read, and has helped me complete my analyses correctly.

4 out of 5 stars Useful for SAS users without a deep love of stats.......2007-04-04

This textbook has been useful for my work (using SAS) on interrupted time series analysis. Fairly useful examples, but very few examples using transfer functions, which is my interest. Overall, this has been an excellent resource for developing my time series models, and the SAS code is especially helpful. I'd recommend it to others that are not econometrics experts interested in using ARIMA models, but may be intimidated by other highly statistical texts.

1 out of 5 stars Data and Syntax CD with the book.......2004-08-26

I think this book is useless unless the author includes a CD of data and syntax as had been done by Gujarati and Green.

2 out of 5 stars Difficult to understand.......2001-05-18

Although I have taken courses in multivriate statistics, I had a very difficult time getting through the second chapter in this text. Certainly, there must be something that is easier to understand. The author writes as if he spent his whole life inside the ivory tower and gravitates towards three and four syllable words. "Introduction to Time Series Analysis and Forecasting with Applications of SAS and SPSS" is the best textbook in the area of econometrics that I ever read so far. It demonstrates detail programme language of SAS and SPSS for time series analysis and Forecasting which make this book distinguishable from others. I found the explanation of the programme language (right beside the programme) is easy to read and make me understand SAS and SPSS more, especially for the beginner of these programmes. Besides the programme language, the text itself also explains the concepts and the equations of the time series analysis and econometrics in an easy to understand and orgainzed way. This is definitely a good tool book for people learning econometrics.

...rather than a "how to" or tutorial ESRI book, but nonetheless interesting for learning different approaches to solving spatial problems. The math content is minimal, but the target audience is probably the researcher rather than the GIS practitioner. The individual chapters are well-written, but since they span such a broad range of topics (see the TOC below) few people are likely to read this book cover-to-cover. I was content to have been able to borrow it from the library.

I'm a GIS manager with 23 years of real-world experience, I am the program director for the GIS degree program at Tarrant County College where I also teach advanced GIS classes ... This book was way over my head. It's first 5 pages are a matrix of the authors and their academic qualifications - there are 36 of them. That should have been a warning of the complexity of the speach.

Each chapter is written by a different author, and it's almost as if they try to speak in the most complex terms, and to be more complex than the last chapter. Written by pure acedemics FOR pure academics.

Make no mistake, the subject matter is not that complex - just the language. I would reccomend the "ESRI Guide to Spatial Analysis Volume 2" for a better primer on spatial analysis and how to make it work for you.

        Book Description

Statistics courses frequently gloss over the foundations of statistical analysis and concentrate solely on method. As a result, students are able to perform the techniques, but do not know when to utilize them or how to interpret results incorporating statistical methods. Designed to give geography students a solid understanding of key statistical concepts, this in-depth text both presents basic techniques and fully explores their meaning and importance. Structured for optimal classroom use, the book includes helpful student exercises with answer keys. Four broad sections provide comprehensive coverage of descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, statistical relationships between two variables, and modern methods of analysis.

        Book Description

Professor Dey's persuasive, instructive, critical, engaging, and often humorous investigation places many elements of grounded theory under close scrutiny. In searching out the methodological principles on which grounded theory is built, he reveals its main features as a qualitative research methodology for social research and the issues fundamental to understanding it. He also highlights the disagreements between the originators of grounded theory, their reasons, and their effects. His enlightened perspective thereby makes sense of the ways in which grounded theory approaches some of the key issues in qualitative analysis, such as coding and categorization, analysis of process, and generation of theory.

        Key Features
        * Critically considers what grounded theory has to offer qualitative inquiry
        * Explores the principles and methodologies raised during the course of grounded theory's evolution
        * Not another "how-to" version of grounded theory

4 out of 5 stars Learning to use Grounded theory.......2002-05-24

Ian Dey provides a good explanation of grounded theory method and he is especially worried in the definition of concepts, something very important in a research method. Special relevant are his highlights along the book, that help to focus on the essential of each section. In my opinion this book is a good analysis of Glaser and Strauss work, and he gives a more neutral perspective on how to use grounded theory. Very analytical and objective in his explanations.

2 out of 5 stars more problems than solutions?.......2000-07-26

As a student of its originators and a practitioner of the grounded theory approach, this book was for me a bit like reading an intelligent observer's critique of the conversations overheard at my family reunion, without knowing any of the context, history, or quirks of the family members themselves. Although Dey titles this book "Guidelines," I found it instead to be a methodological critique, as acknowledged in the editorial review provided by this website. Many issues Dey raises are reasonable and provocative, but his critique of the major methods texts of grounded theory bypasses the many hundreds of published examples of grounded theory research and thus doesn't address how the method is actually used in practice. This book will be of interest to serious grounded theory devotees who are able to see beyond some errors and misconceptions to a thoughtful exploration of important ideas behind grounded theory analysis, but it may discourage and confuse novices.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, Detailed, on level ground!.......1999-12-03

If you've read Glasner and Straus' (1967), then this is an excellent modern day treatment of developing grounded theory. A must-have title for any qualitative researcher. Above all, suggestions throughout this book offer practical tips that any academic researcher will appreciate.

        Book Description

Spatial epidemiology is the description and analysis of the geographical distribution of disease. It is more important now than ever, with modern threats such as bio-terrorism making such analysis even more complex. This second edition of Statistical Methods in Spatial Epidemiology is updated and expanded to offer a complete coverage of the analysis and application of spatial statistical methods. The book is divided into two main sections: Part 1 introduces basic definitions and terminology, along with map construction and some basic models. This is expanded upon in Part II by applying this knowledge to the fundamental problems within spatial epidemiology, such as disease mapping, ecological analysis, disease clustering, bio-terrorism, space-time analysis, surveillance and infectious disease modelling.

This text is primarily aimed at medical statisticians, researchers and practitioners from public health and epidemiology. It is also suitable for postgraduate students of statistics and epidemiology, as well professionals working in government agencies.

        Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great book very bad writing.......2002-08-23

This is a truly great book on this subject, but it is obvious that the text is mostly transcribed lecture or lab notes. The writing is so bad (run on and fragments) that the publisher should have caught this, and should provide all of us who purchased the book a free revised and updated copy.

But down to the real stuff. The author rightly critcizes the use of mapping rates by unit areas for to gain inference about disease patterns; and, provides some nifty insights into how important error modeling is; perhaps the book's real strong point. However, like most books on this subject, including the infamous Cressie, a huge assumption is made about the readers. Most public health people and epidemiologists have no clue about this area of analysis. Moreover, there needs to be a book where this stuff is presented so that most who would benefit could understand the subject matter.

If you like run on and sentence fragments and especially finding out what defines a real disease cluster then get this book.
