I absolutely love everything Karen K writes. They are such good clean moral books and that is something that is very hard to find now days. Everyone thinks there should be lots of premarital sex in books today. I really appreciate your writing.

This order was shipped and arrived within just a few days of my order. The book itself was in excellent condition and I will be placing future orders with this very responsive seller.
Karen's best series.......2007-01-10
The Redemption Series followed by the Firstborn series are the best of Karen Kingsbury. Each book leaves you wanting to read the next. It is hard to review just one book in this series. If you haven't read the Redemption series, start at book one and go through from the beginning, then on tho the Firstborn series.
Great!.......2006-11-28
I buy all of Karen's books. I liked Found and the other Firstborn books. I loved the Baxter family, and it's nice to see them in this series also. Karen is one of my favorite authors! I can't wait to read the next one!
Book Description
The Perfect Storm on the prairie, Storm Warning is a compulsively readable account of one of the most terrible tornadoes in history -- and the extraordinary people who kept it from becoming the deadliest.
May 3, 1999, is a day that Oklahomans will never forget. By the time the sun set over a ravaged plain, some 71 tornadoes had claimed 11,000 homes and businesses and caused a billion dollars in damages. One of them was a mile-wide monster of incredible power, the fiercest F5 twister to hit a metropolitan area, and whose 300 mph winds were the fastest ever recorded on the planet.
Veteran journalist Nancy Mathis draws on numerous interviews to weave the story of those few terrifying hours that irrevocably changed the lives of many Oklahomans. Storm Warning features Kara Wiese, who fought to save her son from the fatal winds, and Charlie Cusack, who followed the tornado's progress on television until it came knocking on his front door. Amazingly, only thirty-eight people perished at the hands of the Oklahoma F5. Many lives were saved by the efforts of professionals such as Ted Fujita, the creator of the Fujita Scale (dubbed "Mr. Tornado" for his relentless pursuit to unravel a twister's mysteries); the oft-criticized but dogged government meteorologists; and Gary England, a resourceful TV weatherman whose tireless efforts prepared hundreds of people in the tornado's path. Storm Warning alternates between personal stories and the history of the struggle to understand this bewildering force of Mother Nature, creating a nail-biting, captivating look at surviving the fury from the skies.

Gripping Tale of our Killer Storms.......2007-06-17
Tornadoes are the most powerful storms known, with an F5 monster reaching 300 mph winds. Fortunately they are far smaller than hurricanes and so do not usually cause the extensive damage that hurricanes can. The localized damage is often nearly total!
Nancy Mathis in her book "Storm Warning: The Story of a Killer Tornado" chronicles the story of one F5 tornado in particular, the one that struck Oklahoma City in early May of 1999. She provides much historical background, including the story of Ted Fujita, who survived World War II in Japan by a series of apparently random events to produce the Fujita scale to to aid in the understanding and prediction of tornadoes. Another important player, Gary England, pioneered tornado prediction when the United States Weather Service was unable to do so. Numerous people worked on developing the ability to give at least several minutes warning of an approaching storm. In the case of the Oklahoma City storm of May 3, 1999, this paid off big time, with many fewer fatalities than would have happened otherwise.
Nancy Mathis tells this story with great skill. Before the reader is through they develop a wide respect for the obsessional people (including storm chasers) who have continued to develop an understanding of the formidable storms. The reader also begins to understand the power and fascination of these nearly unique monsters of the American Great Plains, where 80% of all tornadoes develop.
I have seen the result of the passage of a weak tornado in Florida (in fact I crossed its path just an hour before it went through). Even though the storm skimmed the treetops, it dropped several long-leaf pines into the roofs of apartment complexes. Luckily no one was hurt, but it was close. These are not storms with which to trifle!
This is a great summery of tornado research and history, plus a great description of a particularly savage storm. If you live anywhere were tornadoes can strike (the whole United States, but especially the Midwest), you should read this book!
compelling book about tornadoes.......2007-05-18
This was a book i could not put down, despite the author's letting us know right from the beginning who lived, who died, and how big the killer tornado was. Mathis' description of the history of weather forecasting was fascinating, and her summary of the science of weather (and tornadoes in particular) was easy to understand and compelling. Her recommendations on how to survive a tornado are vital for anyone who lives in "tornado alley" as well as for people who live in areas rarely visited by these potential killers. I recommend this book to anyone interested in weather and its effects on people.
A Great Book on Tornados.......2007-05-13
Nancy is a fantastic author and did a great job with this book. An enjoyable read.
Like an IMAX movie in hardcover.......2007-05-01
Just finished reading Nancy Mathis's Storm Warning in one sitting. Having grown up in Oklahoma and spent more than two decades as an airline pilot, I thought I knew a thing or two about hook echos, doppler radar and microbursts. Mathis nails these down--making the science interesting and easy to understand. But she also tells the story of this terrible twister in a way that puts the reader right in the middle of the action. And that is scary, especially if you happen to be reading Storm Warning during a blustery spring storm, as I did. I could picture the eerie green sky as the storm chasers sped across the plains and smell the dank culvert where victims perished. The blow-by-blow description of the destruction of a two story house in 20-25 seconds is as vivid and chilling as anything I've ever read. Do yourself a favor though: read it on a quiet sunny day with calm winds.
A Riveting Read.......2007-05-01
Ok, so who knew that a book about tornado forcasting could make me tearful at its ending. It is a tribute to the author's ability to thread the stories of the lives so affected by these events through, in and around the science that makes this book read like wonderful fiction while carrying the burden of informing like nonfiction. There are two layers of the human element here, the victims of the killer storms, some of whom heal and many who don't, but the other story is of the men who pursued the science of forcasting, both for the love of the science itself, and for the advancement of the common good. The people I came to know in this book will be with me for a long time. This is, simply stated, a great read.

MY BOY LOVES READING IT.......2007-01-07
My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!
magic, danger, history.......2006-06-02
The book Twisters on Tuesday features magic, danger and history. The magic is the tree house. I bet you're saying huh? Read the book to find out about this magical adventure.
The main characters of the story are Annie, Jake,Ted and Morgen. Annie is Jake's sister. She likes danger and Jake likes to study.
Ted is a featured charactar in this book. He starts out as a human and changes, into a dog and the story's plot is how Annie and Jake help him. I recommend this book to people who like magic and history in their books.

TWISTER!!!!!!!.......2006-01-19
I enjoyed reading Twister on Tuesday. Although this book is fiction, it uses many facts so that you always learn something new. Jack and Annie go back in time to a prairie to help Morgan, the secret librarian. They end up getting caught in a twister while helping their new friends to safety. I recommend that you will like reading this book as much as I did.

Awesome book on an awesome natural phenomenon.......2006-09-10
I remember checking this book out at the local library and reading it cover-to-cover at least 4 times when I was between the ages of thirteen and sixteen. That was around 10 years ago, and I still remember bits and pieces of it. It was that good. Now, I suggest you pick up a copy of this before more people discover how good it is and it becomes a rare/collecible item. Highly recommended if you like reading non-fiction about tornadoes.
Absolutely the BEST book about a day of tornadoes!.......2006-03-19
I own this book in its original printing. This book is so good I will not loan it out in fear of losing it. I am an avid storm watcher via Internet, etc. This book is like being there! I'm glad to see they have broght it back into print. A must read for anyone interested in severe weather and survivor stories.
An excellent tornado book!.......2002-06-22
I have read this book several times over the years, and it holds my interest all the way to the end each time. It reads easily and quickly, and yet gives great detail to the horrific events of Friday, May 31st, 1985. This book is even more important to me because I live about 43 miles away from where the nearest tornado hit- Newton Falls, Ohio. If you are a severe storm and/or tornado buff, or just want to learn more about this particular tornado outbreak, this book is for you.
Best Tornado Book I have ever read!!.......1999-03-19
This is truely the best tornado book I ever read. I lived not far from several of where these tornadoes struck. An F4 tornado just passed south of my hometown, Warren PA, and struck Tionesta and Northern Forest County, killing 7. I found out about this rare, yet fascinating outbreak in PA. I recommend this book to be read by any tornado enthusiast.
The best tornado book ever.......1998-12-08
This is the best tornado book that I have ever read. This incident happened about 50 miles from my hometown which makes it more exiting yet.The author's chronological story from the start to end keeps the reader's interest through out the whole book. I am currently looking fo a copy of this book

Do you know how rain is formed? Do you know when tornado season is? If you want to know these questions read the Magic Tree House book Twisters by Mary Pope Osborn and Sal Murdocca. Read this nonfiction book and learn how hail is formed, learn what is the worst storm. Also there are some sweet experiments. This is an awesome book I loved it a lot. Go to the book store near you and get this book or any Magic Tree House book.
A real "Twister".......2005-02-07
The book that I'm reviewing in school is Twisters and it's by Mary Pope Osborne. I think this book deserves four stars because it is an interesting book to read. The book I'm reading is about weather. They talk about twisters, hurricanes, storms and other cool things. One thing that I learned is hail can be the size of a golf ball. Also, there are different kinds of hail sizes, like the size of a ant. I would recommend this book to a friend because if you're doing research you could find great information. Other books by this author are research guides on other topics.

Twisters.......2004-02-06
Twisters are tornadoes. I learned about them in the book Twisters by Will Osborne. Twisters wreak everything. Twisters can destroy homes because the winds go 300 miles per hour. They hit in the midwestern U.S. in April, May and June. I feel excited about this book because it's good to know about natural disasters so if it happens you'll be prepared.

Book Description
When a tornado watch is issued one Tuesday evening in June, twelve-year-old Dan Hatch and his best friend, Arthur, don't think much of it. After all, tornado warnings are a way of life during the summer in Grand Island, Nebraska. But soon enough, the wind begins to howl, and the lights and telephone stop working. Then the emergency siren starts to wail. Dan, his baby brother, and Arthur have only seconds to get to the basement before the monstrous twister is on top of them. Little do they know that even if they do survive the storm, their ordeal will have only just begun. . . .
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic book for Middle Schoolers.......2007-07-17
This novel is about a boy and his friends and family that survive seven tornados in their town of Grand Island, Nebraska. Dan, his friend Arthur and his little brother Ryan wait out the tornados in the shower stall in Dan's basement. When the storm is over, they desperately seek to find their families and shelter. In the end, the novel explains how they survived after the storm. The themes are of family, community and survival.
This novel explains storms in great detail. The use of sensory details is tremendous. I have been through a tornado, heard the sirens, and felt what the character felt. It was dead on. The characterization and the changes in Dan from beginning to end are/can be a focus in the classroom. The novel can provide the students with a book rich in details and character development. It moves at a fast pace and is a page-turner. The vocabulary is not very challenging, I believe, but the words that are unfamiliar will be easy to find among context clues due to strong interest of the story. This book could also help emphasize character education as far as perseverance and selflessness.
The novel is completely accurate. I felt like I was in the tornado. I have been through a tornado and lived in an area where the sirens came on. Reading this book, put me right back there. It is obvious the author has been through a tornado or did their research. It is believable for most people; some find the devastation hard to believe if they have never seen what Mother Nature can do. I believe, in light of Hurricane Katrina, that students will believe the author's details in this novel. It is easy to see everything through Dan's eyes whether you are male, female, or any race. It is about him and the storm.
I did not find anything controversial in this novel. It is appropriate for 7th grade, maybe even 6th grade. The book is a fairly easy read with some vocabulary that can be pointed out as unfamiliar. The thing about this novel is that it is completely entertaining. They can actually get into this book and can focus on the sensory details and characterization of Dan and Arthur. They will not agonize over the details but embrace them. GREAT literary merit and a fantastic, interesting read. I LOVED it!
Worthwhile book based on true events.......2007-07-14
As a fellow Nebraskan who remembers that night, I wanted the book from the moment I heard it had been written. And it was well worth it, as it made many of the events of that night become alive and realistic for the reader. That night certainly changed the face of parts of GI.
It's a good book, though not for much younger than 8 as some parts are a little scary. Ruckman wrote in first person, telling it from the viewpoint of Danny. It makes it very comprehendable as well as interesting for young readers.
WOWEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Night of the Twisters.......2007-03-28
My classmates and I are reading this book.It is about a boy named Danny and his best friend Arthur and Danny's little brother, Ryan. The boys and Danny's mom are wathing the weather channel and there is a tornado watch, then a warning, then the siren!!!Well, the mom is out of the house checking on their neighbor,Mrs.Smiley.Danny's mom doesn't hear the siren! While the 3 boys are downstaires, the tornado is in the center of the house!!! The house was ruined. But wait....where's Danny's mom? Suprisingly ,the boys look up and they hear windows from a CAR crashing! Then a scream!!!The scream was his mom...ooo, I would HATE to be her.Read this book to find out what happens next!
A Reivew From Myra From Creston.......2007-01-30
If I had to describe this book in 2 words they would be...panic-stricken. I enjoyed reading it because it's one of those "can't put down" books and the suspense built up more and more every page! Although I normally don't enjoy action books/movies/video games etc. this kept my interests and held on tight. I think everyone who has ever doubted action should read Night of the Twisters.
The characters are as close as they can be to real. Dan Hatch is normally a fun loving kid; when the tornado struck he is a "cry-baby". Ivy Ruckman could actually make you feel as though you were Dan. The fear, the sadness, and the terrifying experience flowed into your blood turning you into one of the characters. As a conclusion the characters are defiantly real!
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate this book an 8. If I were the author I would have changed a few scenes in the book, cut it shorter, and token out a couple of unnecessary characters. I really don't enjoy long books. I call it a L.T.I.N.T.B (Longer then it needs to be) book. Those are the only changes I would have made.
I learned a couple lessons from Night of the Twisters.
Reason #1) you always have to expect the worst of thing to happen and hope for the best.
Reason #2) a disaster can never be too far behind you.
They may not be what we call life's little lessons but they sure can make a difference.
This was an okay book. Too scary for me........2006-10-02
It was about a 12 year old boy and his best friend and baby brother. They pretend that the tornado is just not goning to happen but the weather channel says a tornado is going to hit ground. Dan and his best friend think thats it not going to happen but then the winds start to howl and it starts to rain and hail. Then the boys know they should have listened! Read it to see what happens to them.

Book Description
A tornado appears in the distance, and Pete, the farmhand, gathers everyone into the storm cellar. While they wait for the storm to pass,he tells the family about the dog dropped down by a tornado when Pete was a boy. Named Tornado, Pete's pet was no ordinary dog -- he played card tricks, saved a turtle's life, and had a rivalry with the family cat. By the time Pete tells all of Tornado's lively stories, the storm has passed, and another family has been entertained by this very special dog.

Tornado.......2006-04-28
I think this book was okay because I like to read about tornadoes and twisters. Pete was a very nice man. Pete's dog did what he was told. I like Tornado because he did a lot of card tricks. I like Mary Lou because she fed the turtle a lot.
Tornado Review.......2006-04-28
This book is about a dog named Tornado. He can do all sorts of things. Things that a dog cannot usually do. Pete tells stories about Tornado the dog and the adventures they had. Like the one with five thirty,or the one with the turtle, and the very sad part at the end. What will happen to Tornado? Find out in this book.

Flying Dog.......2003-11-17
This book is easy to read but it is heart warming. It shows you how much he loved Tornado. It shows how broken hearted when his dog was taken away from him. You fell so badly for him. How could any one do that to him?
The book is about a family who has to go into a storm cellar because a twister is coming. Pete tells the family about his dog he uses to own named, Tornado. His dog was great. He could do card tricks and did what he was told. One day he brings Tornado to town with his dad. They are gone about an hour and a family comes and sees Tornado in the truck and starts yelling, "Look, it is Buddy!"So he has to give Tornado up to the family.
Will they get Tornado back? Will they ever get out of the storm celler? Just read the book to find out. I think this book is great for childern ages 7-10 or if you just want to read a short book.
Book Description
It was April 3, 1974. Crime was soaring. Unemployment and inflation were out of control. A costly war had just come to its demoralizing end, and an unpopular President was on his way out of office. Then, over a sixteen-hour period, nature stepped forward with its own display of mayhem: an unprecedented outbreak of 148 tornadoes, covering thirteen states in the heart of the country, from Michigan to Mississippi. Hundreds of people were killed, thousands of homes demolished, and a billion dollars in losses sustained. Sixty-four of the tornadoes would be classified as severely violent; six belonged to the most rare, most deadly category: F5, or "incredible tornadoes."Like the best nonfiction, F5 is a brilliantly crafted page-turner that reads with the immediacy of a novel, telling a harrowing story of natural disaster against the backdrop of the turbulent 1970s. Acclaimed journalist Mark Levine follows the heart-wrenching fate of a rich cast of intertwined characters -- ordinary Americans whose lives are transformed in a terrifying instant. A pair of teenage lovers are caught while driving on a dark country road; a Vietnam veteran is trapped at home with a newborn baby; a sheriff finds himself in the line of fire twice in rapid succession; a black preacher with a past of dire hardship struggles to protect his family.Other figures enter the story from the broader cultural scene, including Hank Aaron, on his way to challenging baseball's home run record amid racist death threats; Patty Hearst, whose image as kidnapping victim is undergoing a radical shift; Richard Nixon and George Wallace, both intent on using the storms to their political advantage; and a memorably eccentric scientist, known as Mr. Tornado, who regards the "Superoutbreak" as the apotheosis of his scholarly life. Gripping and revelatory, F5 braids the story of the shattering outbreak with images of social upheaval and individual heroism in a stunning, unforgettable read.

Interesting historical account.......2007-09-07
I enjoyed this book despite it being a little slow at times. The author does an excellent job of making you feel you know the characters albeit in a detached, history book sort of way. It takes a while to get to the actual event of the tornado which could easily bore anyone looking for an adventure romp. However, if you are looking for an in-depth, comprehensive account of a major weather event you will enjoy this book. It left me feeling very grateful that we have the current warning systems in place against severe weather.
Dreadful.......2007-09-06
I thought the book was poorly organized and hard to follow, and was more of a political tome than reporting; I was very disppointed. I lived as a young adult during the period when the events in this book took place, but I did not recognize the America that the author described. I thought the book was about tornadoes; I guess the author felt he had to get some things off of his chest. Maybe he does, but I hope next time he works his issues out in private.
A bland disaster?.......2007-08-21
As a fan of disaster stories, I opened this book with anticipation. A natural disaster I had never read about coupled with a noted author...well, my anticipation was better than the actuality. The book is, frankly, bland. Everything about it - the reporting, the prose, the arrangement - is all ok, but that's all it is. OK. I expected a lot more from this combination. And why the author felt it necessary to spend three pages toward the end of the book talking about the streaker at the Academy Awards that year is totally beyond me. However, that is about the ONLY section of the book that truly engaged my emotions.
F5 pairs science with a personal touch lending it appeal.......2007-08-09
F5: DEVASTATION, SURVIVAL AND THE MOST VIOLENT TORNADO OUTBREAK OF THE 20TH CENTURY comes from an award-winning magazine writer and is a powerful survey of the 1974 tornado array - some 148 of them - which struck thirteen states in the Midwest and killed hundreds. F5 reads like fiction but packs in science details on the six that achieved F5 force status - the rarest, largest of tornadoes. By including case history vignettes of individuals affected during the storms, F5 pairs science with a personal touch lending it appeal into general interest lending library holdings, where it's sure to be popular.

I enjoyed the book.......2007-08-04
I enjoyed this book, and its personal stories of the people involved. As other reviewers said this story does jump around too much. I also found stories about the politics of the time distracting. I would have also like to have seen maps of the area the tornadoes struck. The personal stories of the people involved were well written and I would have like to have heard more. I would recommend this book.

More O'Malley Excitement.......2007-03-21
Stephen O'Malley is a paramedic who has had enough of being a big city EMT. In a promise to his dying sister, Jennifer, he says he will leave the big city to take care of heart attacks and sprains in the slower pace of the country. On his way out of Chicago, he receives a call from Meghan, a childhood friend, who is looking for a little comfort from the rainstorm and a ride to her parents' house.
The story of Stephen and Meghan's early relationship is told brilliantly in flashbacks. When the story catches up to present day, the plot twists and turns like a scenic mountain road, blending Stephen and Meghan's lives with a series of jewel thefts. This is by far the most tantalizing O'Malley mystery. Stephen's struggle with the concept of having a relationship with God adds spiritual depth to the novel.
The other O'Malley novels are: The Negotiator, The Guardian, The Truth Seeker, The Protector, The Healer, The Rescuer. Each is a wonderful read!
Love this series!.......2006-11-16
The books in this series are awsome. Dee Henderson has become one of my favorites. She has a way of making the reader a part of the story and looking forward to the next! Suspense, romance, friendship, it's all there and more.
Great series, not the best book.......2006-05-03
I adored this series, but was rather disappointed with this last addition to the series. What makes this series so great is the characters and their interaction with each other and I felt that we didn't see enough of past characters in this book (like Lisa and Rachel were hardly ever mentioned) and it seemed almost to be another world from the others. Ovearll this series is so phoemonal and this is definitely not the book to judge the series by. While much of the depth that Henderson is known for is here, it just needed that interaction to really make it join the others in this series in caliber.
Good Wrap-Up, Mediocre Story .......2006-01-29
The O'Malley series supposably comes to a close in this book. I got to know Stephen O'Malley in the last chapter of The Healer and knew he was running. Running from God and Jennifer's death. His old friend, Meghan Delhart, is blind and has things that are randomly missing. An earring, some money. She finds a fabulous ring in her piano metronome and realizes the old kind jewelry dealer, who is deceased, Neil, might have a lot of secrets hidden under a loved name. Stephen is trying to find out who is doing this operation of jewelry theft and conterfeit. But, a perilous ending will have you on the edge.
I enjoyed this book, but one of the hardest aspects to overcome was adapting to reading the views of a blind person. I had to focus and visualize her black world, which was fairly difficult. This book gained my respect as I learned how challenging the blind have it.
Good Wrap Up to the Series Ms. Henderson. (Though I don't believe you're finished with the series quite yet!)
