Challenging the myths.......2005-04-08
There are so many myths when it comes to the Civil Rights Movement and so often it is reduced to a few holiday's and key speeches. This book not only teaches us about the ordinary, everyday citizens who sacrificed and stood for change, but also invokes critical thinking and connects us to our past so we better understand our role in fighting injustice today.
Book Description
Bestselling author David Horowitz reveals a shocking and perverse culture of academics who are poisoning the minds of today's college students. The Professors is a wake-up call to all those who assume that a college education is sans hatred of America and the American military and support for America's terrorist enemies.

College Students Deserve the Truth- Good Book.......2007-10-08
As a student I have found this book to be priceless and very informative on the serious problem of far left bias in American universities. In my best opinion the far left in our nation's schools is a very dishonest, vile, dangerous movement that can inflict serious harm upon western civilization.
Many crazed professors like Ward Churchill have created bizarre monstrosities in American political science departments. It is as if these departments in numerous American academic facilities are like radical left wing Disneylands where the reality of the real world never sinks in, and a totalitarianist point of view on life is the only expectable venue for students to engage in with out any critical analysis nor any honest value driven insight into putting people and events in proper perspective.
The far left really is a religion of its own and a very dangerous one at that, with sacraments like "Hate George Bush" "hate the military" "worship abortion" "distrust capitalism" - "hate Christianity & family values" ect. But in the long run the people who truly follow this backward religion are true losers, and those who believe in the American dream are the real winners.
If there was any good that came out of the horror's of 9-11 it was that many people including myself have awakened to the reality that the far left is very bad for America, and at least for me the ideologies of conservativism is the most positive and productive for any person living and working in the USA (and the entire west as a whole).
The far left has failed like socialism and communism before it, and American conservativism = the free market economy has been successful.
Another good sign of the positive turn around for America is that the far left generation is dying out, their lies, deceit, fantasies, and values are fading away in a culture that has found extensive success with free market capitalism, democratic reform around the world, and numerous American and allied military successes on the battle field against Militant Islam.
America = the greatest land in the history of the Earth, and no far left hack in any school can take that fact away.
Awesome book- worth your time and money.
Don't Underestimate College Students!.......2007-10-03
Any college student intent on getting an "education", however one defines that, can usually get it at even a moderately prestigious university or college. There is, at many schools, an extensive network of commentary on individual courses, individual professors, and how to use the "system" to maximum advantage, whatever the goals. I suspect that most students will not buy this book, because they have no-cost sources of better information. I suspect it has always been thus at "institutions of higher learning and lower living"--and quality is not well correlated with NCAA division or division record. A more interesting study would be of the underground sources of information, and how students use them. At one of the institutions I attended, the underground legal guide to renting apartments was priceless!
204 Reviews...hmmmm???.......2007-09-26
Why would any liberal read this book??? With 204 reviews, most coming from the left...do you really think we believe you actually READ the book.
It was a great book, will make me think about where i'm going to send my kids and grandkids.
A Must Read.......2007-09-13
Very insightful. Especially for college bound students and their families. Colleges should not be indoctrinaters. They should be places of free thought where young adults can make up their own minds. This book will shock you. Those who gave it bad reviews do so because they don't agree with Horowitz politically. They are scared that you will read this book. This is a must read for all of us!
Horowitz is afraid of itellectuals........2007-07-27
Horowitz is apparently scared witless that academics might actually have a political opinion. -And with good reason; the nation's intelligencia tend to lean left. Horowitz would rather that professors be stupid, have no opinions, and would have them not educate their students, such that the nations universities could churn out legions of uneducated but credentialed pigeons, ripe for the rhetoric of the right.
Horrowitz is horrified that educated people disagree with him, and that the tenure system actually protects qualified academics from removal by the uneducated proletariat masses.
It's easy to dig up dirt on people. Is it fair for Horowitz to dig up a paper someone wrote decades ago and use it as evidence against a person today? Does Horowitz have no skeletons in his closet?
The bottom line is that this book is just more right-wing political spew. The right hates the educated, and is running scared.
Book Description
Pedagogy of Freedom is destined to become a classic in the same vein as Freire's classic Pedagogy of the Oppressed, which was rereleased in a 1997 anniversary edition with an introduction by Jonathan Kozol and has sold nearly 500,000 copies in the U.S. His new book argues against progressive liberalism and its passive acceptance of a world where unemployment and hunger exist side by side with opulence. Freire shows why an acceptance of fatalism leads to the loss of personal and societal freedom and how individuals without optimism have lost their place in history, and their own lives.

Mezmorizing!.......2007-07-19
This book enlightened my spirit and made me wish I could teach again! it is an extremly passionate rhetoric for teachers and educators who look up to a positive change in the world and their students. I highly recommend this book for any new teachers, student teachres depressed teachers, or even lost teachers who need to know the way back to the right path of teaching!
The introductions is although half of the book but insightful of the circumanstaces of Frier's lectures and the outcomes of them especuially after his death.
teacher to the world.......2003-04-05
This small work is packed with wonderfully articulate insights, philosophical, political and practical, about education and how we should go about teaching young students. Paulo Friere is an enemy of oppression, coercion and neo-liberalism, a proponent of the human spirit and the possibility of a better world. If you are really interested in the ideas of existentialism, socialism, democracy and social justice, you will find yourself entralled with Friere's practical ideas in this book.

Review - Painless Police Report Writing.......2005-08-14
I have been employed full time as a police officer for nearly 13 years. I purchased this publication in hopes that it would provide an effective means of improving my report writing skills. To say the least, the publication is not what I was looking for.
The student workbook portion of the book contains no answer keys. Good luck on blindly grading your work.
If you are looking for a good report writing book, don't purchase this one. It is geared towards a person who has no grammical skills at all. This publication is even below the recruit level of law enforcement.
A COP From Florida.......2001-03-24
This book was not what you would expect from a book claiming to help out law enforcement officers write good reports. This is more like an elementary school work book with tear out pages. If you are looking for a book that will help you write a better narrative for police reports, this book is not going to be it. It was amusing more than it was helpful.

dealing with potential terrorism at schools.......2005-07-06
Michael Dorn is an internationally-recognized expert of school safety and anti-terrorist measures who has worked with government agencies, foreign law-enforcement departments, among other organizations. He is also associated with the leading defense and intelligence agency Jane's. After analyzing a few notorious incidents from around the world where terrorists took school children hostage for the reasons for the success or failure of government authorities in dealing with them, Dorn--with his co-author his son, also a recognized authority by government agencies and the media--discusses general principles which can prevent a terrorist incident, be prepared for one if it does occur, and if so minimize the number of school children and teachers taken hostage and the potential loss of life. The timely, authoritative manual addresses the natural concern over the safety of children with a realistic perspective on the probability of a terrorist attack on any particular school. The recommendations put forward follow the guideline of being pertinent and responsible without being excessively costly to school systems and governments at different levels.

Critical Issues in Policing: Contemporary Readings
ASIN: 0205274544 |
Book Description
From Mark Fuhrman to the Rodney King incident, the image of the rogue cop is embedded in the minds of many American citizens. The high profile of police deviancy in the media has provided the public with an overwhelmingly negative image of police integrity. In this book, readers are given a glimpse at the other side of this image and the inner stresses and truths about policing in America. Written by an experienced author (Bartollas) and a practitioner (Hahn), this book brings together an ideal mix of the academic and the practical in an intriguing and comprehensive overview of the state of policing today. Human interest stories interspersed between the discussion of such important topics as police stress, police corruption, excessive and deadly force, constitutional law, and suspectsÕ rights add to the readability of this informative book. In every chapter, there is an effort to place the role and functions of the police in context, whether it is historical, sociocultural, legal, political, or economic. This wide range of contexts provides readers with a complete picture of policing as it relates to various aspects of daily life. Law enforcement officers, students of law enforcement, and anyone else interested in the current state of policing today.

Policing in America reviewed by a former Chief of Police.......2001-08-26
POLICING IN AMERICA, by Clemens Bartollas and Larry Hahn, Allyn and Bacon, 1999, is overall a suitable text for teaching college freshmen and sophomores. It is in brief style with approximately 27 pages per chapter and is written in understandable language for this level of education. Because it doesn't delve deeply into any one specific area, an introductory class is appropriate for it's use. The book covers all the necessary subjects for beginning criminal justice students, and might be good for use in an academy setting as a supporting text. However, the inclination of the authors was more to the political left than might be suitable for a 'middle of the road' presentation. Significant emphasis was made to point out that law enforcement suffers from many short-comings sometimes to the detriment of objective education. The authors, on occasion, accepted at face value, the impressions and perspectives of writers more sympathetic with the offenders than with the criminal justice practitioners, and thereby opened themselves to unnecessary scrutiny with regard to their overall subject material. My students seem to like the book and my practice is to present both sides of any issue, so the students can make their own minds up about what to actually believe or not. I am a three-time chief of police in three different states, with advanced degrees in Justice, and a BS in Business. Additionally, I have graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officer's Course. I teach, or have taught, at every level of education. I recommend the book, with only slight reservation, for use as a college introductory level course text.
Book Description
The heroic struggles of the thousands of slaves who sought freedom through the Underground Railroad are vividly portrayed in this powerful activity book, as are the abolitionists, free blacks, and former slaves who helped them along the way. The text includes 80 compelling firsthand narratives from escaped slaves and abolitionists and 30 biographies of "passengers," "conductors," and "stationmasters," such as Harriet Tubman, William Still, and Levi and Catherine Coffin. Interactive activities that teach readers how to navigate by the North Star, write and decode a secret message, and build a simple lantern bring the period to life. A time line, reading list, glossary, and listing of web sites for further exploration complete this activity book. The Underground Railroad for Kids is an inspiring story of brave people compelled to act in the face of injustice, risking their livelihoods, their families, and their lives in the name of freedom.

A vital resource of information for strategizing new ways to combat terror and protect society.......2006-09-09
James J.F. Forest (Director of Terrorism Studies at the U.S. Military Academy) presents Teaching Terror: Strategic And Tactical Learning In The Terrorist World, an anthology of serious and didactic essays by a wide selection of scholarly authors compiling knowledge about terrorist organizations - specifically, about how they are taught and self-taught. Topics of discussion range from virtual training camps to the media as a terrorism showcase to technical issues affecting potential nuclear and radiological terrorism, to renewed strategies employed by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia. In compiling what modern scholasticism tells us about the transfer of knowledge among terrorists groups of various faiths and political leanings, Teaching Terror offers a vital resource of information for strategizing new ways to combat terror and protect society. Highly recommended reading.
Cutting edge scholarship on terrorism learning.......2006-07-13
This book, written by diverse group of scholars, makes an important contribution to the exploding literature on terrorism studies. The authors explain how a variety of extremist groups, including the Provisional Irish Republican Army, Jemaah Islamiya, Hamas, radical environmentalists, and, of course, Al Qaeda, learn their violent tactics and tradecraft, using this knowledge to carry out attacks against non-combatants. Teaching Terror should be useful to scholars and practitioners of counter-terrorism and homeland security, and upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level students in courses on terrorism, homeland security, and international security.
