Time to accept the obvious.......2007-09-05
We must now accept the facts that the most scorned scientist of modern times (Velikovsky - NOT "Veilkovsky" as amazon perhaps intentionally mispells it) was correct with almost everything he wrote starting in the 1940s. Some minor details (mainly related to dating) might need revising, but the basic info is beyond dispute now, mainly: Our solar system is dynamic and changing; various sized objects (asteroids, comets, planetoids, and large planets) have come into our solar system and wreaked havoc in historical times; some of these objects have stayed in our solar system and become stable (Venus) while others will return in somewhat predictable fashion (planet X, Nibiru, etc); electrical discharge from large objects, the planets, and the Sun play a major role; humanity is more ancient than we have been told, has attained very high levels of culture and technology previously, and has barely survived a number of global catastrophies (probably 6 major ones, although various smaller ones too) which has forced the survivors to start from scratch; all ancient texts and beliefs from various cultures mention this; we will have to deal with another global event sometime within the next couple hundred years or so; and finally there must be a massive conspiracy that keeps this basic information from us, but why?
Tremendous info (and the first book) from one of the greatest and determined minds of the 20th century. He will go down with Hahnemann, Tesla, Maxwell and Rife as the 5 most supressed scientists who could have made a tremendous impact on all of us, of the last 200 years.
Wishful Science AND Scientific Wishing..........2007-08-17
Clearly, the scope of this book boggles the mind! It has a sweeping, awe-inspiring theme that rivets the attention. I was barely keeping my balance as I tried to comprehend how, by the greatest of luck, mankind WASN'T destroyed in the melee of the planets!
Alas, Alas! Dr. Velikovsky was more the psychiatrist than the scientist. He knew quite well how the human mind could be hypnotized. Alas, again! Science (the lack of, that is) undid him. When he made his tale of how the massive lighting bolt from Venus to Earth reversed our planet's magnetic field,... his veil was torn asunder! Two important points are made below: first, Velikovsky did not understand electicity and, second, no one at that time understood what would be discovered in Ireland in a little more than a decade.
Though I am no degreed scientist, I have worked decades in precision electronic measurement. My epoch has seen the changeover to numerical displays; Nixie tubes, 7-segment displays, LEDs, plasma, LCDs. Before these, there was the d'Arsonval movement; the meter movement. A simple 1/4-turn motor with a magnet at its heart. After years of service, the permanent magnet would weaken,... a few domains flipped on this measurement, a few on the next.
Now, the important point! These magnets were often re-magnetized because the precision movements were very expensive. How was this done? It was connected across a car battery through a starter solenoid. Bolt the movement's magnet down, push the 'starter' button, and,... Wham! A rejuvenated magnet,... unless you connected it the wrong way! Then you had a meter that went backward,... until you put it in the right way and did it again.
You see, Velikovsky did not understand that it was a 50-50 chance that the Earth's magnetic field WOULD NOT have changed. (And today we understand that the Earth's poles could not have been changed by it at all!) All he knew was that an iron bar struck by lightning became magnetized. Depending on which direction the electrons flowed through it (my apologies to Ben Franklin but electron 'current' is the reality), the retained magnetic field would be one way or the other. Velikovsky used pulse magnetization to support his view, but he did not understand the science behind it.
And then, there is Newgrange, Ireland. Its massive, very ancient burial site was built 5,000 years or more before the present day. It was very carefully built so that the rising sun during the winter solstice would shine through a special roof box above its entrance, down a narrow, 60 foot-long passage and illuminate the inner chamber for several minutes.
5,000 years,... that's BEFORE the fantastic cataclysm alledged by Velikovsky. Now, YOU figure the odds that Newgrange was originally built to point somewhere else and, just by chance, happened to stop at EXACTLY the right alignment afterward. No, it is no accident. The Earth has held its present polar alignment for a least the last 5,000 years.
Still, WORLDS IN COLLISION is quite a read. And, to see where Velikovsky was coming from read his EARTH IN UPHEAVAL. It IS in the science section of most college libraries.
A brilliant book by a scholar of scholars.......2007-07-09
In his 1950 'Worlds in Collision', Immanuel Velikovsky presented evidence from diverse ancient writings and academic disciplines that within recorded history there have been global natural catastrophes caused by near collisions between Earth and a comet-like body. Much of the evidence in this book demands scientific explanation. Velikovsky's collation of evidence in this book is valuable even if his specific cometary thesis is not correct.
'Worlds in Collision' is one of the most important books in the history of science, perhaps because of its major concepts, but at least because of the widespread misrepresentation and other unfair treatment that has been done since 1950 to discredit Velikovsky's theory in this book. Such treatment has resulted in a climate of hostility against Velikovsky within academia. Examples of such treatment are discussed in numerous works including 'Carl Sagan and Immanuel Velikovsky' by Charles Ginenthal.
One tactic by which critics of Velikovsky have contributed to the climate of hostility is to label the theory in 'Worlds in Collision' as pseudoscience. This tactic is deplorable because it creates the wrongful impression that Velikovsky's theory is not legitimate science and effectively bullies people who want to investigate Velikovsky's ideas or similar theories. For decades, the climate of hostility has given scientists reason to fear that if they openly investigate Velikovsky's ideas, their papers may be rejected from publication or they may lose their jobs. The climate of hostility has inhibited the scientific investigation of ideas of Velikovsky in this and other important works.
'Worlds in Collision' is so rich with fascinating ideas and evidence that it can be read again and again with new insights gained each time. This book inspires a love of learning and a desire to do research, and a respect for ancient traditions and writings around the world.
Pseudoscience vs Science.......2007-01-06
This one of the most controversial books published in the mid twentieth century, and also a glaring example of pseudoscience. Although it looks like a scholarly book, its major flaws are easily visible to a scientist. Velikovsky was discussing many things about which he knew very little, and many of the phenomena that he suggests happened in the solar system are impossible or contradicted by well-established evidence. To a scientist this book seems vague, illogical, and obtuse. Velikovsky is inconsistent, for example describing the chemistry of the atmosphere of Venus and Mars in various places as "hydrocarbon", "carbohydrate", "petroleum gases", and "of the nature of carbon" (whatever that means). Many of his references to electromagnetic phenomena, always presented qualitatively (without numbers or equations) are incomprehensible. One of the most mystifying passages is found in the final pages of Worlds in Collision, where he suddenly introduces the idea that the solar system is like an atom, and hypothesizes that if the forces between sun and planets were primarily electrical (his early theory of "cosmos without gravitation") the planets might be able to jump from one orbit to another like the quantum changes in the electrons of an atom. This stunning non-sequitor seems to be a serious suggestion, not just a reversal of the common teaching analogy that compares electron orbits to miniature planetary systems.
Henry Bauer summarized his detailed analysis of Worlds in Collision (in his book "Beyond Velikovsky") by writing "Velikovsky displays a lack of understanding of chemistry, physics, and astronomy... [He] is not only ignorant of the facts...his whole approach is not that of the scientist... he does not weigh his evidence ... he does not adduce independent tests of validity ..[his] ideas about natural science are not worth taking seriously." Yet "he discusses these subjects in a manner that would convey, to a layman, an apparent familiarity with these fields."
Although there are relatively few "predictions" in this book, much has been made of claims that Velikovsky anticipated many discoveries from the space age. Velikovsky was correct about the high surface temperature of Venus (although he never quantified his prediction, saying only that "Venus is hot"), but apparently for the wrong reasons, since there was no net energy excess and no decline in temperature over time. In the case of Jupiter's radio emissions, he correctly predicted a more important role for electromagnetic effects than was thought at the time, but the radio noise from Jupiter is unrelated to the hot, electrically charged atmosphere hypothesized by Velikovsky. On the chemistry of Venus, he was completely wrong, as he was also in his predictions for the Moon. Actually, the dead surface of the Moon, where geological activity virtually ceased more than 3 billion years ago, provides one of the strongest counter-arguments to his scenario of recent planetary encounters.
Probably the most definitive answer to Velikovsky came from terrestrial science. Rather than astronomers' arguments about what might have happened to Venus or the Moon, direct information has become available on our own planet's history. First were data from dendrochronology, the use of tree rings to determine past growing conditions (and hence climate), which were extended back more than 4000 years, into the period in which the Velikovskian global catastrophes were supposed to have happened. Then the early 1980s saw analysis of Greenland ice cores that provided annual values for global average temperature and volcanic dust and sulfuric acid going back tens of thousands of years. There was no evidence of any volcanic or impact or climatic catastrophes at or near the times proposed by Velikovsky from his interpretation of ancient myths. The fact is that many things that might have seemed plausible or at least possible when Velikovsky wrote them in 1950 have since been shown to be wrong.
For a detailed point-by-point discussion of Velikovsky's science errors, see my chapter in Donald Goldsmith (editor) "Scientists Confront Velikovsky" titled "Planetary Astronomy and Velikovsky's Catastrophism" and my article "Velikovsky at 50" in Skeptic 9, No. 1 (2001).
Wandering planets.......2006-09-21
In this non-fiction book from many years ago, we are told how the planet Venus wandered from its orbit, causing many events from ancient history and the Bible. Since Venus leaving its eliptical orbit around the sun is somewhat less likely than the United States of America lifting off the ground and floating away, the amazing thing is that people actually believe this nonsense, and yet they do. And they call scientists narrow minded for not considering that maybe the law of gravity is wrong. What seems narrow minded to me is a love of nonsense combined with a lack of interest in basic science.
Book Description
Free to patrol the skies and surface of the high seas under international law, U.S. and Soviet naval and air forces made daily direct contact during the Cold War. Often confrontational and occasionally violent, air-to-air contacts alone killed over one hundred Soviet and American aviators during the Truman and Eisenhower years. Diplomacy to curtail the hostility produced mixed results. In the 1960s the Soviet Navy challenged worldwide U.S. naval dominance, and collisions and charges of harassment became common. In 1972 the two nations signed an Incidents at Sea Agreement (INCSEA) that established navy-to-navy channels to resolve issues. This agreement is the focus of David Winkler's study. He argues that in contrast to conventional diplomatic channels, Soviet and American naval officers, sharing bonds inherent in seamen, could put ideology aside and speak frankly. Working together, they limited incidents that could have had unfortunate consequences. Drawing on previously unavailable State Department files and recently declassified papers held at the Naval Historical Center as well as discussions with former top naval officials, diplomats, and others, Winkler details U.S.-Soviet incidents at sea, analyzes the changes in U.S. policy and naval strategy, and evaluates the effects of various events on U.S.-Soviet maritime relations, helping readers to fully appreciate the agreement's significance in establishing a direct military-to-military contact and as a venue to discuss other issues during the 1970s and 1980s.

An Interesting Read.......2001-04-22
I found this book quite fascinating, as it touches on a facet of the Cold War very rarely mentioned in the mainstream of history -- the practices of limited (though still dangerous) engagement between the U.S. and Soviet high-seas fleets. Furthermore, it details not only the incidents, but the effect that seemingly remote occurences had on both the Soviet and U.S. leadership. That effect, ultimately led to the establishment of a number of agreements, also detailed in this volume. Interestingly enough, Winkler makes it quite apparent that many of the Soviet diplomats and military officials were quite mindful of the impending failure of the Soviet Union, even in the early 1970s. I would definitely reccomend it if you are interested in Naval or Cold War history, or if for some reason, you want a detailed history of collisions at sea, as found in one of the appendixes.

Colorful and Insightful Tour of Shanghai in Its Multicultural Heyday........2007-03-17
In 1842, Great Britain's victory over China in the First Opium War opened Shanghai to foreign development and created a unique form of government that would give rise to both the spectacular successes and failures of the "most international metropolis the world had ever seen." Shanghai was a free city, where no visa or passport was required for entry. Foreign citizens whose governments had treaties with China benefited from "extraterritoriality" and were not subject to Chinese law but to the laws of their homelands. The city had fewer constraints. Unfettered by colonial law or obligations, Shanghai was governed by a Municipal Council of businessmen. It became the largest port in the Orient. In 1895, Japan brought industry to the city. By the 1920s and 1930s, Shanghai was a city of over 3 million people, the cultural center of China as well as a haven for "the dispossessed, the ambitious, and the criminal" from all corners of the globe.
That is the heyday that Harriet Sergeant writes about in "Shanghai: Collision Point of Cultures 1918-1939". An economic center since the 1840s and an industrial center since the 1890s, Shanghai was as much a Chinese as a foreign city by the 1930s, a cultural center and hotbed of political thought. White Russians fleeing Bolsheviks had brought European arts to the city. Chinese academics and artists fleeing warlords or Nationalists brought both radical and traditional culture. It was the pride before the fall. In August 1937, China and imperial Japan went to war in Shanghai. The city never recovered from the destruction of its industries and effective occupation by Japan. In 1941, Japan seized it officially. In 1949, Mao's Communists marched in. But those who lived in Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s, when the city's legend was bested only by its reality, tend to recall it with awe. That persistent allure inspired Harriet Sergeant to seek out memories of that time -Chinese, Western, and Japanese- on three continents.
The memories of Shanghainese (Chinese residents) and Shanghailanders (foreign residents) bring the amazing contrasts and collaborations of Shanghai to life. A section is dedicated to each of 3 major populations: The White Russians, The British, and The Chinese, describing the history, experience, and impact of each population in Shanghai, from the lowliest paupers to the most extravagant wealth. The reminiscences of former residents from all walks of life never fail to fascinate. The author's astute assessment of the Shanghai businessman, the city's driving force, displays uncommon insight. The stories of Shanghai's populations are punctuated by chapters describing the city's battles in which the outside world encroached on its stubborn independence: the onslaught of Nationalists and subsequent purge of communists in 1927, the street battles between the Japanese and Chinese armies in 1932, and finally the arrival of the inevitable war in 1937.
In her exploration of Shanghai between the wars, Harriet Sergeant presents a portrait of an extraordinary city and the people who made it tick as well as Shanghai's perspective on the world. China and Japan are viewed through Shanghai's eyes, not the other way around. Harriet Sergeant researched this book in the 1980s, so her occasional comments on modern Shanghai, though interesting, are dated. That leaves me to wonder what she would think of the city today, since Shanghai has enjoyed a renaissance. "Shanghai: Collision Point of Cultures" is a fairly rigorous but thoroughly enjoyable story of one of the world's great cities when its absurd independence and stunning heterogeneity made all things seem possible.

Finally!!.......2005-12-22
Phew! It is a huge relief to finally read a book that portrays Islam the way it should be! I read most of this on the plane and it really made time fly(no pun intended). The second i started reading it I was captured by its fast paced story and its unique plot lines. Before I knew it I had landed and was dissapointed because I would have to wait till I got home from the airport untill i could read what happened next. This book on cross-religious marrige is a perfect warning to those who are interested in participating in cross-religious marriages. As I have seen with many couples especially when the woman is a muslim, these are undescribably difficult. This book besides being a wonderful story and a fantastic read, carries a lot of life lessons and morals to muslims everywhere and even Western non-muslims. It makes you question your life position in terms of Islam and God. Besides all that it shows there is a reality and obligations in life that can and do co-exist with the religion. This book portrays Islam in the light it finally deserves. One which puts a clear line between Islam and Muslims, terrorism and Islam, Even to an extent breaks down barriers between Christianity and Islam. My aunt reading a few pages of the book has picked up a copy herself. I cannot emphasise enough how much I enjoyed this book it's story (which I am sure has been already summed up from previous reviews), its life lessons and Ms. Abdi's captivating writing style. From cover to cover, it is a book you can not put down untill it is finished. The characters were alive, emotional (Anisa the main character had an abundance of emotion), to be honest they were real. They jumped out of the book and into the living room. In conclusion I finished the book days ago and still think about it as an adventure I just had. I strongly recommend this book. I give it an easy 5 out of 5.
Must Read.......2005-01-26
the book had me hooked from page one till the end. I've read the book atleast 3 times and it never gets old. I'd recommend it to anyone
AuthorZone.Com Book Review.......2003-10-11
Anisa is 15, living with her widowed mother and two little brothers on Rako Island when she overhears some of her family members discussing whether she should continue her studies. Anisa is a dedicated student, has little interest in marrying at her age and is aghast as she listens to her relatives planning her life for her. It is the opinion of Anisa's Aunt Huda and Aunt Rahma that she should not. Anisa's mother has other ideas.
Because Anisa does so well during the upcoming year she is offered a chance to go to the USA as an exchange student. Anisa's mother who is supportive and wants her daughter to have the best possible education is at first put off by the notion, however, Anisa's Uncle/stepfather intervenes and Anisa soon boards an airplane for flight to the US. The fellow students with whom she is studying at first put off Anisa. With their different notions of foods, attitudes and values they seem so different from what she knew at home.
It is while living in the USA that Anisa meets and marries a non-Muslim man. Mike converts to Islam before their marriage, but it does not take long before Anisa realizes that most likely Mike only converted in order to marry her. He is not really faithful to his new doctrine. At last Anisa decides to take her children and return home to Rako Island. What follows next is the crux of the tale. Mike and Anisa must decide how and what to do in order to best care for themselves and their children.
I enjoyed reading this book. Writer Abdi is a Dubai housewife recently taken to writing. In A Mighty Collision of Two Worlds she presents a nice, sprightly, highly readable writing style centering on the inevitable conflict inherent in every marriage. These conflicts are compounded with the diverse backgrounds of the two participants. The story of Mike and Anisa and the problems they face are as old as mankind. When two people from differing backgrounds meet and marry confusion, disagreement and misunderstanding are sure to follow.
Writer Abdi has crafted an absorbing and entertaining work filled with just enough local background to draw the writer into the narrative. Abdi's Rako Island milieu is filled with points of interest, resonance and redolence to bring the reader right into the tale. I could picture the sea, the streets and various players as I read. Foods, dress, prayer times are all introduced with deft skill in this nicely crafted work. I particularly enjoyed learning something of both Muslim daily life and religious tenets as I read Abdi's work. Writer Abdi manages to convey many of her own values in a subtle, non-preachy fashion that readers should find appealing.
A Mighty Collision of Two Worlds allows the reader a peek into a society that might be otherwise unknown. I found it refreshing to learn that we are not all so very different from one another. Various ethnic groups within American society take care of their relatives, in different manner perhaps than brother marrying his sibling's widow. And while polygamy is no longer allowed here in the US, extended families abound in both cultures. Foods and dress are often `bones of contention' for those who do not understand the culture of others. Reading of Anisa's `raisin and carrot' salad brought a smile to my lips. The girl entertained the same grumbly thoughts expressed by my own children when I, as Anisa's mom set the bowl on the table for the same reasons held by Anisa's mother Fatima. I too believe carrots aid the eyesight.
The one disagreement I might have with the writer is that her main character Anisa appears to have met no one in college or elsewhere in the US who held as strong religious beliefs, whether Muslim, Christian, Jewish or other as held by herself. There are so many living here in the US who are very steeped in their own religion that for Anisa to never met one is hard to fathom.
Some minor language issues for the American reader are easily resolved.
A Mighty Collision of Two Worlds is a good book for a quiet afternoon, happy to recommend.

Awesome and frank expose of East v. Western relationships. Very witty. Great read!
An Antithesis to ..."Without My Daughter".......2003-08-15
As a business man I am always looking for a good book to shorten my flight when traveling and for some reason when I looked at the title of this book I found it appealing and I needed to find out what it was all about. I sort of expected something else with regards to this mighty collision, however as I kept reading on I soon realized that this was a story with a deeper meaning, a story that needed to be told. As in the turbulent word we are living in today this book is dealing with a subject that is not spoken much about however it involves thousand of couples and is a subject that needs to be talked and read about. As I kept reading I was dragged into this conflict and I could hardly turn the book away when the meals was served on the plane. You are getting so involved that you just need to turn the next page to find out what is going to happen. The book is dealing with a mixed marriage, east and west and all the difficulties between the different cultures mixed together. It's a very exiting and very professional written book and you get the feeling that this is a book that have a soul and is something more than just a fictional novel. The author has a very good professional way of telling her story and to bring life into the characters and as you read on you find yourself very involved and even take side in this exceptional mighty collision.
To my knowledge this is the first book published from this author and after read the book I found it hard to believe that this is indeed her first published work. What impressed me the most about the author is her outstanding ability to handle the clashes of cultures which the book is focusing on with fairness and objectivity.
I've read many fictional novels, however this novel is among the best I've ever read. It's a page turner and the subject is very much in the limelight in today's turbulent world. If anyone wants to know the difficulties between the different cultures mixed together this book is a must read and will highlight some but not all. I really loved this book and can highly recommend this to every book lover.
Thanks to the author for bringing this hidden problem to the surface for everyone to see. I am looking forward to her next book, hopefully very soon. Thanks again!!!!
Thanks for shortenning my long flight

Best Understanding, Best Performance.......2001-09-17
I'm a student from Mass. going to school in Rochester, NY where, on Sept. 1, 2001, I went to see Michael Fairchild play the music of Jimi Hendrix. The performance was fantastic. If you closed your eyes you'd swear it was Hendrix playing. At this show I learned of Fairchild's CD, titled "rockprophecy.com", and his book "Rock Prophecy."
This book is exceptionally well written and pleasing to read. The stories are quite a surprise. Fairchild has unusual ways of seeing Hendrix. He combines this with new ways of thinking about religion and society. It strikes me as important research how these topics tie in with asteroids and Microsoft, and with rich people stealing credit for work done by others.
But after hearing Fairchild play that Hendrix music, I realized he does have the best understanding of Hendrix. The audience in Rochester was extremely enthused. Fairchild can use his musical talent to get his views across, which is good because "Rock Prophecy" gives evidence of what looks like jealous people trying to twist and misrepresent what the author is saying. Fairchild is in a battle with people who resent his talent and reject the view that equality is necessary if society is to organize for survival. The research is published here with sources cited for an impressive amount of information. To me, Fairchild reminds of Arthur and the Sword in the Stone. The one who can play that magical music so well is the one who will be listened to. The answers found in "Rock Prophecy" are answers everyone needs to hear.
Pap.......2001-08-19
I haven't read this book so I'm sure opening my self to cries of hypcropsy (sp?) but I have read plenty of Mr. Fairchilds diatribes on the now defunct internet mailing list Hey Joe for a couple of years. It made no sense then & makes no sense now. Taking credit for the success of the Hendrix CD :Blues because the of the liner notes? Ah what about the music? I will say that I did enjoy the linear notes to :Blues but then all you need to do is read the notes to :Woodstock. Obviously :Blues notes where a fluke. And since when is an album being in the top Ten an indactor of quality? I'm sure thirty years from now instead of talking about Jimi Hendrix we will be talking about Britney Spears and the Microsoft connection. Ha ha.
As far as being the original predictor of asteroid, I can't believe he is still going on about that. While NEO (near earth objects) including asteroids is a relatively new in the public arena, I guess scientists like Jan Ort & Kuipler working long before Faichild was born and working with some little thing called a telescope mean nothing. Oh I forget, recorded history begins with the birth of Mr. fairchild & Jimi Hendrix.
I can't believe some one actually published a book of his nonsese. Oh I know. It is placed in the comedy section.
Highly Stimulating.......2001-02-11
This book changed the way I see today's world. There are so many intense insights here, Mr. Fairchild's view of Jimi Hendrix is the most stimulating I've seen. But this book's explanations about the major religions of the world is most valuable to me. The sections on Constantine and how the Council of Nicea altered Jesus' fixation with equality should be seen by everyone. The idea of "Retarded History" is a major breakthrough. How this book gets to these topics out of it's starting point of presenting the asteroid prediction of Hendrix is a wonderful adventure in historical associations. It seems outrageous, almost frightening, that someone like Mr. Fairchild could try to show us amazing research about Hendrix's obsession with asteroids and then have a wealthy mogul like Paul Allen simply rip off the ideas, while at the same time attacking Fairchild. I think Michael is right, the "seers" are always "silenced" because what they see is unacceptable to the privilieged ruling class that controls the media. I'm telling everyone I know about this book.
~ Delusional demagoguery ~.......2000-12-08
It is indeed unfortunate that a tree or two gave its very all for the delusional demagoguery presented in these pages.
The author obviously harbors a grandiose vision of himself, which is as far removed from the primary subject of this book as earth is to the center of this particular galaxy in which we presently find ourselves.
If you really wish to learn more about Jimi Hendrix, don't waste your hard earned frogskins on this one. My advise would be to begin with _"Electric Gypsy,"_ and then, perhaps, the _"Jimi Hendrix: Sessions"_ book.
If it would have been possible, I would not have given this book any rating stars. Hopefully when it is "remaindered," it may be rendered into the toilet paper which it truly already is.
Seattle's Dirty Little Secret.......2000-07-03
Michael Fairchild's writings for Hendrix CDs are so much more stimulating to read than anything released since his career was obstructed by Paul Allen and an ungrateful Hendrix family. The Hendrix :Blues CD (MCA 1994) reached the Top-10 on Billboard charts. That release was named "Best/Historic Reissue of 1994" by Guitar Player magazine, was fawned over by Rolling Stone, and got critical acclaim around the world, thanks to Michael's selection of the music and superb booklet notes included with that CD. Likewise, his work on the Hendrix :Woodstock CD (MCA 1994) brought that release a "Best Reissue of 1994" citation from Rolling Stone.
That the new Hendrix company replaced Michael's writings with uninspired junk is a testament to their own dull perceptions. As Fairchild points out, we won't see a Hendrix release top the charts again, which is tragic, because Michael knew how to do that, and he was stopped by Paul Allen's meddling money, after Fairchild arranged for Allen's Experience Music Project to acquire some of the worlds best collections of Hendrix material. And now Fairchild's new book, Rock Prophecy, reveals how Paul Allen's media empire went on to overexpose the asteroid story. Evidence appears conclusive about Rock Prophecy being the source for hype about asteroids. Fairchild sought to publish Rock Prophecy while Paul Allen funded litigation that ended Michael's career with the Hendrix company. Why did the billionaire refuse to compensate Fairchild for helping to build the EMP's Hendrix collections? Mr. Allen appears as a jealous rogue obsessed with shutting this guy up.
It was Michael who was in there fighting Alan Douglas' control of the Hendrix legacy year after year. In one section of Rock Prophecy, Fairchild describes fighting a brutal battle against Alan Douglas, while at the same time fighting hordes of Douglas haters who resented the way Fairchild's advice kept getting Douglas-produced Hendrix releases back onto Billboard charts, while Paul Allen financed a lawsuit aimed to wrest control of Jimi's legacy away from Douglas. Mr. Allen's money nearly succeeded in silencing Fairchild, who is the brains behind the successful marketing of Hendrix in the 1990s.
Fairchild put together a CD titled Cornerstones that reached the Top-5 on Billboard charts. That, along with the :Blues CD that he worked on, remain the ONLY Hendrix releases to get into the Top-10 on the charts since 1971! But Fairchild defends himself well in the Introduction to Rock Prophecy. He states upfront that this is not a "Hendrix book" and he seems exhilarated to be free of the limited/limiting structure of "biographies." Rock Prophecy places Hendrix inside a vastly larger epic - mind boggling twists of history and religion. Some of these insights seem miraculous. It was Michael who was assigned by the Hendrix company to gather all quotes from Hendrix. If any of the enemies of Alan Douglas had made these discoveries, they would have made headlines years ago, I suspect. Fairchild pulls together over a hundred scholars, recognized experts on history, theology, anthropology, planetology, and science, to support a whole new context surrounding Hendrix. It's a fantastic read. Nearly 1000 footnotes cite sources for information. Rock Prophecy reports U.S. Government sponsored research into "remote viewing," but there are just a few sections about the occult, like five citings about witchcraft are in the Index - these are references to quotes from Hendrix on the subject, or references to 17th century witch-hunts as a "women's holocaust." The book does contain insightful analysis of Hendrix's obsession with Voodoo, implications for possession rites, and why these rituals are condemned by Judeo-Christian beliefs. That discussion precedes amazing interpretations about the early Christian Church, and the men who "closed the cannon" on the meaning of Jesus.
A remarkable aspect of this book is its seamless blend of religion with science. Hundreds of Hendrix quotes are assembled with striking results. The thought process of Jimi Hendrix has never before been revealed like this. Of particular interest is a Hendrix penned writing titled "Terra Revolution and Venus." In a brilliant juxtaposition, Fairchild cites the research of German physicist Otto Muck to explain how the Mayan calendar is based on an ancient alignment of Venus, Earth, and moon, which captured an asteroid and directed it to our planet. This is the only section on planetary alignment in this 380 page book, and it highlights the fate of related documents produced by ancient Mayans. Mayans had institutionalized adult homosexuality as a way of life. When Catholic Conquistadors invaded the New World, they destroyed almost all Mayan records that would have informed modern civilization of the threat of asteroids. Fairchild cites this as one more example of "Retarded History," a process that delays human progress and awareness.
Rock Prophecy is an immaculately researched book, evidence is incontrovertible about Hendrix's obsession with asteroids. It's incredible that this important aspect of Hendrix appears no where in any other book. THAT is why I think critics in the pocket of the Hendrix family and Paul Allen "have it in" for Fairchild, they realize that Rock Prophecy can take this subject out of the "guitar greaser" zoo it's now captive of and launch it all into permanent world literature.
Media fixation on asteroids in the 1990s really looks like a rip off of Fairchild's genius, at the hands of the "Microsoft Connection." All they can do now is try to slow down exposure of his book with "bad reviews," dissuade bystanders not to read what is destined to surface as the last word on the importance of the Hendrix story. Fairchild was cruelly brutalized by Alan Douglas, the Hendrix family, and Paul Allen's homophobic cronies, but these creeps might well be concerned over the effect Rock Prophecy will have once it achieves the circulation it deserves. This really is Seattle's dirty little secret.

Great Alone, Not so great trilogy.......2007-09-01
After reading the first two books I was very happy with my purchase. The story was great, the imagery was good, and it was deffinately controversial. The author doesn't hold back with the devistations that plague the earth wich makes it completely believable. I'd say worth reading except for the fact that I don't want to promote the third.
BeauSeigneur's Books Are a New Twist.......2006-07-28
I have read a lot of end-time books over the years, and I find Christ Clone Trilogy to be the best I have read. There are twists and new ways of seeing things all through his books. I have just finished the 3rd book of the trilogy after reading the other two and have found them more interesting and scarier than the Left Behind Series which I thought was a bit predictable and became somewhat boring. Not so these books! These books will make you think in a different way.
Continued logical but at points too detailed.......2006-06-15
The characters in the second book of the Christ Clone trilogy continued to develop well and in interesting ways. There is also a slight narrowing down of their numbers. The political possibilities are also flow logically. But the science starts to be too detailed and not cited especially with the first asteroid. We are still left wondering who is good and who is evil though those familar with the New Testament and Old Testament will figure it out faster.
Excellent!.......2006-06-10
Unlike the Left Behind series, Beauseigneur's depiction of the end times is presented in a way that is wholly plausable. Evil is shown as it truly is; subtle, bait & switch. His scientific explanations of the disasters as described in the Book of Revelation remove the mystery and show that yes, this can happen just as the Apostle John said it would. I recommend all three books in the series.
This definitely explains a fair amount of book 1..........2006-05-24
Since I was stressed out about some work stuff last night (and didn't end up getting any sleep), I plowed through the second book in the Christ Clone trilogy... Birth Of An Age by James Beauseigneur. I can definitely say it's better than the first one, and the story is starting to come together...
This volume picks up with the last chapter of the first book. Christopher Goodman, the person cloned from the cells found on the Shroud of Turin, has just finished his 40 days of solitude in the wilderness, and he's now ready to go back to the UN and start making changes. But on their way back to New York, a nuclear war erupts between India and Pakistan (and involves part of China), and many millions die. But that's just the start of the deaths. John the Apostle and Rabbi Cohen are prophesying major catastrophes (the ones normally associated with the Book of Revelations), and they start coming true. We have meteors devastating the planet, locusts, wide-spread madness, and poisoned water. Goodman sees these two individuals as necessary evil for mankind to advance to a new age of enlightenment, and he increasingly finds himself pitted against them. Right as he's poised to take over leadership of the UN, an assassin guns him down. But through miraculous events, he's resurrected and heads to Jerusalem to have a final confrontations with the prophets. Goodman declares himself the "anti-Christ" at that point, and has an interesting twist on the whole God/Satan conflict...
This book was somewhat shorter than the first one, and a lot of time is spent describing the natural disasters in fine detail. In fact, you go for long stretches with no mention whatsoever of Decker and Goodman. I was starting to wonder quite a bit about the theology of this series until the end of this book. Now things are more clear, and I'm following the general storyline. While still not the best End Times book/series I've ever read, it's starting to redeem itself...
Book Description
This fully updated third edition of a vital text on the history of indigenous peoples comes from the thorough research of a First Nations descendent. By turns revealing and deeply unsettling, the book details the brutal treatment and complete displacement of the Mi’kmaq civilization at the hands of European settlers. The author’s ongoing research casts doubt on the recorded tales of Canadian colonization and reveals that the mistreatment of First Nations peoples is not confined to the past.
Book Description
"Flayhart delivers a gripping chronicle of mishap and mayhem . . . filled with danger and heroism and rich with detail."Sea Power
A colorful and deadly history of ocean liner disasters from the mid-nineteenth century to the present., Disaster at Sea is a chronicle of the most frightening episodes in the maritime history of the North Atlantic. From 1850 to the present day, the Atlantic has been home to hundreds of ocean liners and cruise ships, each more lavish than the last...all of them symbols of wealth and luxury. Perhaps this is why readers have always been fascinated by the lives of these shipsand their deaths. Many of us know the stories of the Titanic and the Lusitania. Both tragedies caused tremendous loss of life, even as they made the ships immortal. But there are many little-known accounts of extraordinary survivals at sea, such as the Inman and International liner City of Chicago that jammed her bow into an Irish peninsula in 1892 but stayed afloat long enough for all to be rescued, or the City of Richmond that survived a dangerous fire in 1891, and a year earlier the City of Paris, whose starboard engine exploded at full speed in the mid-Atlantic and yet miraculously still made port. Often such tales are forgotten even if the ship sank: In 1898 the Holland-America liner Veendam hit a submerged wreck and sank at sea, but all lives were savedso this vessel's dramatic story seemed less important in maritime history than incidents involving human loss. As recently as 2000, the Sea Breeze I sank off the East Coast of the United States while on a positioning voyage, but all her crew members were rescued in a heroic effort by U.S. Coast Guard helicopters. These stories and many others are dramatic, and acclaimed maritime scholar William Flayhart has spent much of the last forty years in search of material from which to create colorful narratives.
Author of The American Line: 1871-1902 and coauthor of Majesty at Sea and the first edition of QE2, Flayhart retells classic ocean liner disaster stories while bringing to light never-before-published but compelling episodes in man's ongoing battle with the sea. 26 illustrations. Originally published in hardcover under the title Perils of the Atlantic.

Riveting!.......2007-09-26
I seldom go in for non-fiction literary works. However, Dr. William Flayhart III was one of my professors when I attended Delaware State University. His classes were always interesting and he had the uncanny ability of making history seem alive.
One day I was talking to some people about professors who had caught my interest and imagination when I attend college, and Dr. Flayhart came up in the conversation. I told the people I was talking to that I had heard he had written some books, so I did a search on Amazon. The Amazon search listed several books written by Dr. Flayhart. I decided to purchase a couple to see if they were as interesting as the history classes I had taken with Dr. Flayhart in the early 70s.
I have to tell you that I have read this book and at times have found it hard to put down. Each chapter is about a different disaster and Dr. Flayhart has managed to capture the details and at times made me feel as if I were on the ships he writes about. Even though the book is rich in detail, it is woven through each chapter to make it part of the story, so you never get the feeling that Dr. Flayhart is just reciting a list of ship specifications, loss of life, or shipping loses.
I highly recommend this book. I think that if you are interested in disasters at sea that involve steam ships making the North Atlantic crossing, you will find this book a real prize.
A page-turner!!.......2006-12-03
It's hard to put this book down!! As a writer of history, William Flayhart is magnetic. His style is compelling and informative. He offers a wealth of researched information to help us understand how these disasters happened, and keeps us involved as we read. I have read several accounts of the Titanic disaster, but found that Flayhart put forth information I had not read before. I will be anxious to read more of his work.
Can't put it down.......2006-01-19
This book contains 21 infamous ship wrecks in the Atlantic from 1850 to the present. Its well written and hard to put down. Stories come alive and I sometimes feel like I'm on one of these ships sailing from Liverpool to New York. Its amazing to see how most of these shipwrecks could have been prevented if crews were not so careless. Kudos to the author.
