Book Description
The video tape series contains section-by-section lectures by a master teacher. The video series can be used by students who miss a class or by students who think they would benefit from seeing another teacher explain a particular topic. These videos could also be used as training tools for graduate teaching assistants.

Let me put it bluntly: my instructor uses this book as little as possible due to the incredibly overdone style in which the text and problems are written. Calculus is difficult enough as it is, but this book makes it virtually impossible to comprehend. User un-friendly. Petition your math department to choose another text.
If this is "Informal", I'd hate to see what "Formal" is........2003-04-14
Instead of actually showing any handy numerical processes used to figure out problems, this book tries to tell you via overly-wordy and remarkably garbled explanations in the middle of "real world" situations gathered from statistics. The authors' idea of "Informal" apparently means burying explanations under useless jargon. If you want to pass a Calculus class and don't already have a talent for mathematics, this is not the book to use. Use something that's straight to the point and ditch the "Informal Approach".

If you're a teacher of elementary or middle school math, you need to get over the sticker shock and buy this excellent book. Every chapter has easy-to-implement approaches that will make you a better math teacher. And the methods are simple to integrate into any required curriculum. This is the best resource for a math teacher I've encountered in my whole career.
CGI Continuation Book.......2007-08-23
This book is great for an elementary teacher, middle school teacher, or junior high teacher. CGI incorporates differing problem solving strategies and relies heavily on class discussion in order to develop new mathematical concepts.
The best part of this book is the development of algebraical concepts in the early grades but is great for reviewing or new ways of presenting concepts in the latter grades.
I highly recommend this product if a teacher is willing to implement the total program and money involved. I am a second year teacher and I spent over $800 to implement this program in my classroom because I had none of the materials needed (snap cubes, cuisinaire rods, markers, or tubs to hold the materials.)
