Highly detailed in every way. Complete equations suitable for computer programming. In fact, Rosemount and other companies refer to this handbook exclusively. The index is the best way to use this book. As handbooks go, it is easy to use and an excellent compilation of vendor information as well as original R&D information. There are a few quarks in the equations for integral orifices, but the actual errors are negligable. I got improved equations from Rosemount. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is that it takes some time to dig information from the handbook. It's all there, but, it takes time to digest it. You must have this book if you encounter instruments, particularly, flow metes, during your work. You must have this book!

Macosko has put together without a doubt the best practical rheology reference and the only one to include sufficient detail on rheometers. A bit heavy on the constitutive equations and tensors but you'll not be at a loss if you don't follow them. If you had the ability to purchase but one rheology reference, this should be it.
Excellent reference book.......2000-07-26
MacOsko has written an excellent *reference* book; don't pick this up as your first foray into the field of rheology. (I recommend Stephen Rosen's text for that job.) MacOsko provides a relatively pain-free introduction to tensors and then proceeds to apply tensor analysis to a variety of rheological topics. If your work doesn't require rigorous tensor analysis, or if you're new to the field, avoid the book. Otherwise it's a very comprehensive and readable reference.

This is the only book I know of that thoroughly explains every flow measurement technology. If you ever buy or specify flowmeters, it's a great reference to have.

What I needed, when I needed it.......2001-09-27
I needed to get up to speed on DMA fast and I got what I needed. It didn't provide all the info I required for my specific application (submicron thin films) but it did provide a sound foundation for further investigation. This is truly what it claims to be, a practical introduction, many thanks to the author.

I spent many hours researching for a Thermal Mechanical textbook that was packed full of "Get Down To The Point Answers". Let's face it, there are not many current Thermal Analysis textbooks for sale. The books I've seen are too scrambled with no understanding at the end. This book was VERY informative, and it answered my questions. Special Thanks to the author. I'm hoping for an expanded second edition...........1999-11-19
I ordered this book based on the other review here onamazon.com and was looking for a bit more. A fair bit of the contentis already covered by free application notes on the web and sales literature that the makers of DMA instrumentation pass out for free. If your looking for a solid treatment of the polymer physics of DMA testing, that's not this book; maybe it hasn't been written yet. If you just want to relate DMA testing to real world environments and effects, then there aren't enough good examples in the book or a method to make this book worth the price.
This would make an acceptable guide for a technician who was just introduced to a DMA - I was looking for more.
