I won't write a long detailed review like some of the better reviewers here. All I can say is that I was the furthest thing from an alpha male. But this book changed that for me by giving me the tools to be an alpha male. Naturally, for it to work you need to apply the things the book teaches, but if you do, then your life will change. There are a lot of expensive products, DVD's, CD's and other things that people are selling out there, but this book really covers everything you need to know. And the main thing it teaches is how to be a real man. I believe that if I had this book earlier I could have saved my marriage. I'm just a beginner in this kind of material, but I've read a few things out there. If you're trying to find one book to get started, I think this one is the best, at least that I've come across. I'm really looking for a book from John about alpha male relationships and marriage. He covers it a little in his book, but men everywhere really need a manual to undo all the terrible social programming. The funny thing is that it makes women happier.

Alpha Male is unlike any other dating book I've read. In contrast to the others, this one does not dump a laundry list of specific rules or things to say. Rather, it focuses on nonverbal communication and how to build a powerful aura by using the right signals at the right time. It covers all the important but subtle details including dress, attitude, body language, and how to touch a woman.
The author does an expert's job applying psychology. Interacting with a female is a tricky dance of wits and confidence, and he tells you exactly how to play this game. You will find that much of success relies on attitude adjustment. To build this positive mindset, the author effectively compares the habits of alpha males and betas (the ineffective seducers).
Another plus is that the material in this book can be, and should be applied to social situations in general. Many examples point to the nonverbal mannerisms of CEOs; such behaviors to succeeding in business interactions are also keys to success with women. Best of all, this guide gets the job done without the need for romance or wussy poetry.

This book was ok at best. I had already downloaded several ebooks before I read this book. It actually to me looks to be alot of revised info. If this is the first book you've read on picking up women ore becoming an alpha male you will enjoy it. If you have read other books on this subject you should probably move on.

Two management consultants have jointly written this book about alpha males who occupy some 75% senior management positions in America's business world. According to them, alpha males are indomitable, tenacious, and persevering enough to reach the apex of their career. They inspire awe and respect but could move people to fear and trembling. Despite having great career success, the downside of their traits and behaviours such as the `laws of the jungle' attitude, interpersonal impatience, and difficult controlling anger can have devastating effect to their health, marriage, and other people surrounding them.
Both writers marry hard data on some 1,500 executives and base on their abundant coaching experience with senior executives from Fortune 500 firms to figure out why such top dogs become pit bulls that snowball problems and expose their vulnerabilities. In short, alpha males are various in terms of their different traits they possess such as commander, visionary, strategist, and executor. Some are inclined to act like visionaries that often dream up exotic ideas but hate naysayers. Others have an uncanny ability to deal with crisis but tend to exercise their authority through intimidation and domination. Both writers conclude that Trump's `apprentice' mentality would do more harm than good. Brilliant Insights for the Many Alphas at the Helm.......2007-03-03
It is hard to not wax poetic about this book as I was so excited to literally walk into it in an airport store soon after it was published. Not one to usually look at hardback books, the title was alluring and the content took my breath away. Here were two top consultants working with some of the best and the brightest who had characterized the execs into four categories. Their process of categorization allows a much greater understanding by the executive than most of the others I have seen over the years.
Each of the four "types" (and most of us have a mix) have specific strengths and risks when it comes to leadership and effectiveness as a top executive. As an executive coach, I really like helping each "alpha" I work with to look at the "risks" of their personality traits rather than call anything a weakness. We play to our strengths and mitigate our risks. This offers a framework from which we can look at what is working, what isn't, and set very specific goals for behavioral change.
Every successful executive has some/many alpha traits. Kate Ludeman, PhD and Edie Erlandson, MD at Worth Ethic, offer an online test that is incredibly helpful as it provides very clear explanations of the specific strengths and risks indicated by the individual. The conclusions and recommendations they offer are extremely valid (from a practical point of view). Having worked with hundreds/thousands of alphas over the past 25 years, I wish I had the benefit of this screen and understanding of their conceptualization process for each client earlier. This is one of the few items I always use when working with a new client.
Breaking the traits into strengths and risks is really what it is all about. Although I have used a SWOT analysis for years in all levels of work (with individuals or with boards and strategic planning), I've always hated the "W" term, weakness. This is such a judgmental and pejorative term to most people, and sounds very permanent. The term "risk" is ever so much better to work with (and hints at the situational component). So even if SROT won't be a best seller, I now explain that what I want to look at are their personal risks, not weaknesses. Every exec is comfortable with risk. It's how we live, and really is an important part of what gives the fabric of life a certain richness and depth. A risk is something that one can assess and make decisions about. A weakness is just, well, yuck.

Men and dogs: Why we love them both and how alike they really are........2007-04-04
This book simply ROCKS. It is a book all women above the age of 18 should read. As women, we all understand on some level the reason we are attracted to some men and not to others. This book simply puts those thoughts into a neat, sensible and funny theory about men and their pack order.
Reading this book, I found myself thinking of all of the men that I have known and dated, and all of them fit one of the author's pack status personalities. The mix of biology, humor and good relationship advice kept me glued to this book for hours.
This book isn't about getting laid quicker, or figuring out the male psyche. It does, however, give a new and interesting perspective on why men behave they do and how we interact with them. Alpha males aren't the only pack order personalities out there. Some men are great husbands and others are great lovers. There are ancient and instinctive reasons for this, and I loved reading about the biology behind love and attraction.

A good FUN read, and you'll understand men!.......2007-03-28
First I've got to admit I'm one of those "Y" types the author advises not to read this book. But then, being your basic "Y" type, I don't follow directions all that well, so I read it. That was partly in self-defense, after listening to Patricia laugh so much while she read it, and then announcing I'm a sentinel.
This book is a really fun read. It is written in a humorous, almost conversational, style that both made me laugh and made it difficult to put down. Whether you agree with what the author says or not, if you simply like to read for the sheer pleasure of the written word, this is a book for you.
It is fun, and may be partly tongue-in-cheek, but the premise makes sense; men, like dogs and their ancestors the wolves, are pack hunting predators. There must be organization and positions within the pack -- different jobs -- to make the hunt successful. This may not be so crucial in the modern world, but we spent a few hundred thousand years needing to hunt to survive. The characteristics that make up the positions are as deep in our nature as the "flight or fight" response or the need for food and shelter.
Here are a few things you'll learn: guys who say they are Alpha almost always aren't; why the neighbors always say "but he was such a nice, quiet guy"; how to recognize perpetual puppies, retrievers and junkyard dogs by their wardrobe and habitat, and why too much testosterone is not a Good Thing.
For us guys, this book offers the perfect alibi; "I can't help it, it's in my genes." For women, this book is like an Audubon Society Field Guide; yes, you can recognize a guy's PSP after you read this book.
You can save the chapter on biochemistry until the end but don't skip it entirely. I've check some of the information about genes and biochemistry on the Internet, and while the author assures us she didn't do any research, everything I checked is right. Maybe Francis Crick was right; psychologists of the future will be biochemists.
Oh, and buy it from Amazon; you can get free shipping! I bought it from the publisher and it cost $8.50 more!

EXTRA! EXTRA! A "MUST READ" TWO THUMBS UP!.......2007-03-24
OK, so it was never my intention to read this book. Let's face it, in the forward the author actually tells us men not to read the book. Being smarter than the average bear I knew this was a sneaky way to get us men to READ THE BOOK and normally I wouldn't have fallen for it(obviously, the author has some devilishly smart advisers helping her with this). But my wife had purchased the book and I needed to implement my own Bush Doctrine (For you liberals out there that means I needed to read the book before my wife did and put it into action against me).
It turns out this is a great book. I've read it 3 times now. The first time I read it I laughed so hard and so often I almost peed my pants. I ended up reading the second half of the book in the washroom just in case. Half way thru the book the first time I knew I would need to read it again because all my laughing was getting in the way of my note taking. Seriously, if my wife was going to read this stuff I needed to bone up on my knowledge.
This author is not only smart as hell and a great researcher, she's informed and funny too. I'm not going to get into all the terminology she uses (Retrievers can do that).....but she's bang on right and she knows it.
So my recommendation is going to be for everyone to purchase this book and actually read it. And I mean everyone.....8 to 80, blind, drunk or crazy......if you can read you need to own this book.

My recommendation: Read this book!.......2007-03-18
The author takes a very funny tongue-in-cheek approach to understanding why men are the way they are. The first third of the book provides an easy to understand and eye-opening overview of the genetic and brain chemistry factors that influence male behavior. The notion here is that men are predisposed or "hard-wired" to act in certain ways and that no amount of conditioning is going to change that underlying predisposition.
The second two-thirds of the book provides what is essentially a field guide to men, the heuristic for which is the concept of "Pack Status Personality" (PSP). The PSP framework borrows concepts and terminology from the worlds of dog breeding and wolf research and applies them to men, which makes learning about what makes men tick understandable and fun. Each PSP is described in terms of its brain chemistry, dominant personality traits, behaviors, grooming, and sex habits, all in an effort to identify the qualities that would make its constituent men a good mate for the right woman.
I recommend this book without reservation for women who have yet to find their ideal mate - as well as for women to understand better the mates they have already found. I also recommend it for us men (yup, and I am a Retriever) who would like a very entertaining and testosterone-free way of understanding the men who influence the world in which we live. Finally, I will give a copy of this book to my daughter when she reaches the age at which men become a serious preoccupation and pursuit, and I suggest everyone else do so as well.

Some people, unfortunately, never seem to develop into full-fledged human beings. They remain caricatures but can sometimes be extremely successful. Foster has crafted an interesting and compelling story about how these people interact with their world and provides some insight into their motivations. They can be dangerous, but are also very easy to spot. Sometimes winning isn't worth it, and sometimes accomplishing a goal can jeopardize something more important.
In addition to being a nice read this novel can serve to help a young professional consider their ethical/moral bearing. Foster knows real estate and loves LA and makes both inviting to the reader. I highly recommend this book to anyone starting a career in an aggressive and competitive field or to anyone who likes a good story.

Riveting and compelling. I loved the suspense, drama and romance. A page-turner. Strong characters with strong motives and driving passions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover. Suspense, romance, twists in plot, ethical dilemmas, intrigue, and downright ruthless tactics by the antagonist all make this a good read.
As a 4th generation realtor, it was nice to finally read a book written by someone in the business - if you are in the business then you will have "names" for each character - people you know just like them.
If you are not in the business, you will understand what draws so many in and why they stay in this cutthroat world.
The author has obviously pored a lot of his heart and soul into the story, providing great realism and fact.
A great read, don't buy it unless you have time to read it cover to cover.

Anthony Clark is a former male escort. he has seen it, done it, and now he tells about it. Fortunately his wife is very understanding of his past, as she helped him write it. The book is fast-paced, allowing you to absorb the lessons of other (less fortunate) men while you get to chuckle occasionally from the safety of your favorite arm chair.
The stories are real, and the lessons of what NOT to do are invaluable, if you value such things as your wallet, your sanity, and getting ANY regular amount of affection from the opposite sex. The title really says it all. This book covers that precarious time from post break-up (or when you got dumped, cheated on, or just plain bored and left), reminding you that you are really not alone in this. We all go through some of the hilarious situations contained herein. It is best to read and learn, and thus avoid many of th mistakes you will see here. Good fun, and extremely readable.
