Five Stars With no Doubt........2007-03-15
During my years as Structural Calculyst this book was always on my right side on my desk, and when I needed it, it was ready to help me find my way. One really very good Engineer has never found all formulas in his head, instead he should be able of finding them out on good references and really know how to use
them all. This is the best reference book you are going to find when formulas is your subject, just buy it!
The only book I know better than this one is written in German and few people are able to read in German, so!
very useful handbook.......2007-01-04
Very helpful book in engineering job, but unfortunately I've found some mistake (the reason for 4 stars).
In general you can find lot of formulas in this book. This book is also very well known and that's the reason for recommending it. You can just refer to Roark's formulas and everybody knows what's that.
Great Reference Tool.......2006-10-29
This Book contains every fromula that i would ever need during my Mechanical Engineering Course.
It is quite easy to use, and the print is clear the index is user friendly
Well Thought Out Upgrade from Previous Editions.......2006-04-18
I have three editions of this book: the classic 4th edition, the useless 5th edition and this, the 7th edition.
The 4th edition has simple format, is easy to use, but lacks methods for more sophisticated hand analyses and is sparse on explanations. The 5th is best used for a doorstop.
This edition is an excellent combination of the usefullness of the 4th edition with modern and more advanced methods.
The layout of each section has excellent explanatory material and provides the simple 4th edition type equations backed with more involved/advanced formulas which are very useful.
My hat is off to the authors. This is probably the best reference for those nasty stress and deflection hand calculations we all have to do from time to time.
Excellent resource.......2005-10-01
Roark's has been and remains an excellent resource for the structural engineer and designer regardless of the edition. This is a referance I use on a daily basis. Typically the first book I reach for.

All What you need and more.......2007-01-18
Great Book. Found a huge variety of topics covered. I liked it as a quick reference guide.
Need formulas in the middle of the night.......2000-04-11
Norton Lapeyrouse has done a good job accumulating those hard to formulas that you need in the middle of the night. We have all been on location and needed to calculate some aspect in drilling of a well and can't remember the exact formula. Well this book has just about everything you want. It ranks up there with Service Company's Tech Facts books and a more.
Book Description

* Presents simple formulas, organized by type of member, to permit more complex members to be solved.
* Includes formulas for dynamic response as well as nominal vibration formulas.
* Contains background material on stress and strain, mechanical properties of materials, stress analysis, stress concentration, and fracture and fatigue mechanics.
Customer Reviews:
Roark's book raised to the power 3!.......2003-01-30
This is a first-class reference book, very well organized. As a practising structural engineer, I'm commonly confronted with strength of materials formulas for different kind of structural members and I do extensive FE modeling. It is interesting to have analytical formulas to check these calculations on some occasions.
Roark's formulas for stress and strain hadn't satisfied me: information is not oriented for structural engineers, introductory texts are not enough theoretical and you have US units throughout.
In Pilkey's book, you have the perfect structural engineer's reference: many chapters, with at first a list of notation, explanation of conventions, and then a short introductory course on the subject together with solved examples. After that, there it is: magnificent well-organized "tables", with all kind of data of prime interest to a structural engineer. As an example, I'll mention that you can find plastic section modulus for about 11 section types.
Units are mixed for examples, but for data you have always both US and SI units furnished.
For all entries, Pilkey's book is far more complete than the Roark's one. You'll be surprised by the vastness and depth of formulas furnished. Furthermore, you have structural matrices in each case if you want to do numerical programming.
The list of references is up to date and very extensive. It is a pricy book, but you'll not regret it!

Mathematical Handbook of Formulas and Tables.......2007-09-25
A very useful book that gathers all the mathmatical formals 'as the title states. As an Engineering Student it is very helpful to have everything in one text instead of getting your old books and digging through them to find them.
Handbook of formulas and Tables.......2007-01-04
It is a good quick reference to getting formulas for math problems.
great reference.......2007-01-04
tables are concise with out missing any important integrals. the table is my constant companion for undergrad physics and mathematics.
one of the best.......2006-11-10
one of the best books i've ever got....
it has every thing i need
Very useful in a pinch.......2006-11-10
As a tabular summary of many useful mathematical relations, the book is very job-specific; however, it contains most of the functions and functional relations that a scientist or engineer might need. The layout is clean and very well organized. It's a useful reference, but does not actually derive anything, so if one is looking for derivations, then try looking at applied mathematics textbooks.
Book Description
This is a revision of the famed pocket guide giving engineers, scientists, technicians, and students thousands of essential technical and mathematical formulas and hundreds of diagrams to simplify and speed their calculations.

4 years of college between the covers.......2007-05-23
The fun thing about this book is that it has everthing you learned (or should have learned) getting your Engineering degree. It's all there! It usually takes some time to sort thru what all the vaiables mean, and often you have to flip between look up tables, but it is so charming to find EVERYTHING in one spot in a book so small you can carry it in your front pocket.
Great Tool.......2007-04-06
This book is a great tool for engineering students and expeienced engineers alike!
Super Handy.......2007-01-19
This book is a newer version to the one my father lent me while on my first internship. I recommend this book to any engineer, since you can find all the formulas you might ever need all in a nice pocket size book.
Excellent reference book.......2006-12-24
This a must have for all engineers, it contains the simplest to more complex formulae required for day to day engineering calculations & design.

A good book for managers.......2006-05-24
I am continuously using this book to improve the productivity and quality in my company.
As a manager in the software area, this book is a must.
Every time I read the book, I find something new to change in the company.
A good practical Guide to the Art of PM.......2001-05-18
I have read many books on the subject of Project Management. Most fail , either because they try to treat PM as a science, or because they go completely the other way and lack any real substance. This book is different. It combines good sound PM methodology with common sense. This is complemented by practical examples of real life situations that I'm sure every PM can relate to. I would recommend every PM browse the chapter relevant to the phase of the project they are about to start on. It's amazing how much common sense we forget. This books demystifies PM and cuts out all the Jargon. It is a real asset to any PM who is serious about delivering software projects on time, within budget, to customer AND team satisfaction.
Project Managing.......1999-12-06
A good book about project managing, it's a knowledge that should be shared with all of IT managers and engineers.
Very well organized book.......1999-11-10
Very good book to read once and refer to it again and again. Practical scenarios make this book different from others. I have attended workshop by Neal Whitten. It was worth attending and surely he has enough number of issues with project management.
Perfect for first time software managers.......1999-11-03
It's simply a very easy to use book, it's structure is unique where it gives you what you need to know either by browsing the most common mistakes in software development process in every phase of the development cycle, or by reading the to-the-point lessons you should follow in each phase..I recommend it to new managers who need to be on the right track in a short time and also as a quick reference for every manager.

Customer Reviews:
Rather old fashioned, but never-the-less useful.......2007-06-09
This Handbook has quite a lot of more formal math in it.
Rade and Westergren's modern Handbook is more useful for finding the engineering equations you need, without all the formal stuff.
I find both useful in different ways.
The worlds best mathematical handbook.......2007-01-27
I have been using Korn and Korn for over 20 years, and have gone through two hardback editions, before buying the paperback one for my son who is studying electrical engineering. I would not have bought him anything else, because Korn^2 is the MOST complete mathematical reference book I have ever seen. It is infinitely more useable than Bronshtein and Semendyayev, and if you want to have one reference book Korn^2 should be your choice.
Great Mathematical Reference.......2007-01-09
Hats off to Dover: you simply will not find a better mathematical reference with the depth and breath of topics addressed for the money. While there may be more prestegious mathematical reference books (Von Nostrand, CRC) but expect to pay at least $100 or more for them.
an MBA student says:.......2002-07-17
I've been searching for a math reference book to use while pursuing an MBA. Much of the math that is used in the classes I'm taking is relatively simple and was more then adequately covered by my undergraduate education. But it has been all been forgotten long ago. This book fits the bill.
Pros: Have been able to find everything I've needed quickly. (Chain rule, logarithms, conditional probability, general solution to quadratic equations.) The explanations are terse but clear.
Cons: Crowed typography, could have used more margins, maybe a choice that was made for this reprint. Sections are number x.y-z, makes it hard to notice when the index refers to a range: x.y-za-zb. The index doesn't always lead directly to the desired section, for instance there is no entry for chain rule, but differentiation takes you right there.
Unfortunately, I'm already through most of the classes where I could have made good use of this book, but for those starting out, this might be a handy reference.
an engineer says: thanks korn and korn.......2001-07-26
over a period of thirty-plus years, i've benefited countless times from this dizzyingly broad and accurate handbook. it must be seen in that light: handbook. but, as such, there is simply no competition, at least for the engineer doing mathematical evaluations or predicting performance. i myself even find it enjoyable to just read in it. also to remember: it is not a compendium of computer-based techniques; indeed, it is a handbook of actual mathematics. i appreciate this small forum as an opportunity to say: Thanks, K&K.
Book Description
- Illustrates through hundreds of examples, solutions, and questions how to take full advantage of the Handbook to solve the types of problems typically encountered in drafting rooms, machine shops and on the factory floor.
- Allows you to quickly become more thoroughly familiar with the vast range of contents found in the Handbook.
- By practicing the many practical techniques explained in this Guide, you will be able to obtain the solution or information needed to resolve on-the-job problems.
