Customer Reviews:
Little, but essential.......2007-10-01
I have assigned an earlier edition of this book for an upper-division historical geography course that featured lots of writing. The Essential Handbook is compact, easy-to-use, and inclusive of the essential information needed by college-level writers. While there are larger, more detailed works that the continuing writer will want, this little book provides a fine initiation into the world of careful and correct writing.
Expensive.......2004-09-06
The book was expensive at my school's bookstore and I regret not buying it from here. It may be called the little BROWN book but mine is purple and I have an older version which is gray...go figure!!!
useful writers handbook.......2004-01-09
My school requires all students to buy copies of this book before entering high school and I do not think they could have chosen a better book to use as a basis for grammar excercises and teaching proper citing protocol. While I have only used sections of this book, it seems to be easy to use and contrary to what an earlier reviewer said, both section names and page numbers are listed in the table of contents. The book is tiny, perfect for carrying in my backback and holds a ton of information. The only problem I have with this handbook is that there is an updated MLA pamphlet that is included with the book and it is harder to understand. Also, the book really should be brown just so the books shows some sense of humor (just kidding). I would highly recommend this book to high school students as a quick reference guide for writing research papers and projects.
Hard to Navigate.......2002-04-24
The layout of this book is very strange, rendering it hard to use. Only a summary Table of Contents appears at the beginning of the book. Worse, it is split over two facing pages--that is, the Table of Contents is presented as one page with the book binding splitting the page in the middle. And, though the book is organized by numbered sections, the section numbers (incredibly) do not appear in the summary Table of Contents. There is a detailed Table of Contents, but it doesn't appear until the literal end of the book. It spans the last page and the inside back cover and is mostly hidden by a fold-in book flap (now that's handy). Of course, this also means that the index is not actually at the end of the book, as you foolishly might have expected; it preceeds that detailed Table of Contents.
It is a lot of work to use this book. The content may be good, but if you're looking for guidance on something specific, you're going to have to dig to find it. A guide should be easy to use, not a chore, in and of itself.
Handy Guide.......2000-04-03
The Little, Brown Essential Handbook for Writers is a useful guide for grammar, style, punctuation, and other writers' needs. The plastic binding makes the book easy to manage when referencing and editing your work.
It isn't always as detailed as a writer might like on usage, but if you have a strong handle on usage, then this shouldn't be a problem.
The book is small and compact, so it doesn't take up a lot of shelf space, but it is full of useful information. It's also great as a writer's traveling companion. Information is quick and easy to find. I recommend keeping this one nearby when proofreading and editing one's work.
Book Description
This full-color second edition features up-to-date, vital information on today's fire service combined with current hazardous materials and terrorism coverage -in one all-inclusive volume! Firefighter's Handbook: Essentials of Firefighting and Emergency Response 2E, highlights all the critical details that apply to the job of today's firefighter, from the basic requirements of Firefighter I and II, to hazardous materials awareness and operations, to incidents involving terrorism. The comprehensive format provides a welcome alternative to using numerous manuals to train students for the Firefighter I and II and Hazardous Operations levels. Clear and consistent content that is compliant with the 2002 edition of the NFPA 1001 Standard makes this a must-have training aid and resource for every firefighter.
Customer Reviews:
Great handbook.......2007-03-06
This is a great resource for firefighters. I went through the fire academy and spent the past few years using IFSTA Essentials to study with. I found the Firefighter's Handbook to be much more entertaining and enlightening. The chapters read alot easier and seem to be written for firefighters rather than students. It's loaded with more fire service history and many more tips and tricks of the trade than essentials. Highly recommend it.
Great book!.......2007-02-19
This book has to be, hands down best book to get if you want to know all about Firefighter I.
Excellent.......2007-01-12
I found this book very useful. This is an excellent introduction in fire fighting and rescue. In my country (The Czech Republic) some drills, standard operation procedures and organization matters are different, but this publication is still very useful and inspiriting.
Pennsylvania Beware.......2006-11-26
DO NOT buy this book if you are in Pennsylvania! The Commonwealth has created their own edition that is similar, but different than this. You will be frustrated in class trying to follow along with this version.
a great book.......2005-12-04
Much better than the previously used texts at the local fire academy, and the skills sections make a good resource for in house drills.

Book Description
Essentials of Biological Chemistry is an introduction to this exciting and rapidly developing field of the chemistry of biologically active compounds. Assuming little in the way of biological knowledge, this text aims to develop students' understanding of how biological processes are controlled by underlying chemical principles. Taking a mechanistic approach, the book starts with the basics and carefully leads the reader through the essentials of the field. It begins by looking at biological systems and the physical chemistry of the cell, and then moves on to cover protein structure and function and catalytic proteins, and concludes with a number of case studies. Each chapter is carefully structured, and includes examples, summaries, self-test questions and problems.

Customer Reviews:
A good textbook.......2007-05-14
A good "text book" stye publication covering a very wide range of welding and cutting methods, but not an ideal book for persons looking for an "introduction to welding" manual. I would have liked to see the author add some basic projects, leading the reader thru all the steps with some good photos of common mistakes and how to avoid them. Still a very worthwhile reference manual to have...
GREAT!.......2007-01-15
This is a very good book if you weld or just need to have info on welding
a must have
Great introduction to welding..........2006-06-11
With the purchase of a brand new Miller GMAW welding machine (wirefeed electrode), my boss entered us into the world of welding. Even though a 30 minute tutorial at the welding supplier was enough to get us started, I bought this book at a local retailer as a reference.
The format is one of simple question and answer that reads easily. The content is organized logically by type of welding activity. I opened to the first chapter on oxy/acetelyne cutting and read down the list as I fired up an OA torch for the first time. I found it supremely reassuring to have such direct instruction coupled with stern warnings. Apparently if I did not know what I was doing, I could have caused a serious explosion. I found nearly everything I could ask for in this book exept for practice welding. Of course I have lots of time for that now that I did not blow myself up.
Highly recommended for beginning welders or curious persons.
dynamite book!.......2006-03-06
This book is appropriate for beginners to experts. The book is written clearly and concisely. The examples and projects are top notch. Recommended to anyone who wants to know or wants to review any subject in welding and brazing.
pretty good.......2005-10-19
This is a dry, but very comprehensive, book on basic welding practices. I suspect it was written for college level welding classes.
If you want some good depth on welding, this is the book for you. If you are looking for welding tips, move along.
Book Description
This innovative book answers the call of departments and training centers for more options when selecting materials for firefighter certification classes. This new briefer version of Delmar Learning's Firefighter's Handbook features important and up-to-date information for fire service professionals without the related topic of hazardous materials. It covers the critical details that apply to the job of today's firefighter and meets the requirements of the 2002 edition of NFPA standard 1001, when taught in conjunction with a Hazmat course meeting NFPA standard 472 Ops+ level. The book is a lower cost resource for fire departments, academies and schools in which hazardous materials are taught in a separate course with separate learning materials.

Book Description
The author, a seasoned rubber technologist of four decades, provides more than 180 essential rubber formularies, some of which have never been published, that are used by practitioners the world over on a frequent basis. Main areas covered include thin coatings, oil seals and `O' rings, belts, auto rubber components including tires, industrial rubber rollers, tank linings, footwear, clothing, hoses, and erasers. A special feature of the formulations is that they are designed for factory scale applications.
The opening chapter of this indispensable book gives practical information on compounding techniques, coloring, ingredients, as well as a whole section on typical rubber testing methods. The book concludes with appendices useful for the technologist that include seven conversion tables and three tables on scorching of rubber, specific gravity and volume cost, equivalent chemical names for trade names.
Designing a rubber formula on the factory floor demands knowledge of the whole undertaking, such as the physical nature of ingredients, the interaction of additives and the base rubber during compounding and processing, as well as making sure that the finished product conforms to specification and requirements. This book provides all the necessary knowledge for practitioners and students alike.

Ottimo testo.......2004-03-23
E' uno dei migliori testi su Inventor. E' molto dettagliato e ben curato. Spiega molto bene l'uso di Inventor dalle cose più semplici fino a quelle più complesse. Tocca praticamente tutti gli argomenti coperti dal software. Se si desidera sfruttare Inventor in modo pesante, è un testo da leggere fino in fondo.
Complimenti agli autori.
