Book Description
Fuzzy control methods are critical for meeting the demands of complex nonlinear systems. They bestow robust, adaptive, and self-correcting character to complex systems that demand high stability and functionality beyond the capabilities of traditional methods. A thorough treatise on the theory of fuzzy logic control is out of place on the design bench. That is why Fuzzy Controller Design: Theory and Applications offers laboratory- and industry-tested algorithms, techniques, and formulations of real-world problems for immediate implementation. With surgical precision, the authors carefully select the fundamental elements of fuzzy logic control theory necessary to formulate effective and efficient designs. The book supplies a springboard of knowledge, punctuated with examples worked out in MATLAB®/SIMULINK®, from which newcomers to the field can dive directly into applications. It systematically covers the design of hybrid, adaptive, and self-learning fuzzy control structures along with strategies for fuzzy controller design suitable for on-line and off-line operation. Examples occupy an entire chapter, with a section devoted to the simulation of an electro-hydraulic servo system. The final chapter explores industrial applications with emphasis on techniques for fuzzy controller implementation and different implementation platforms for various applications. With proven methods based on more than a decade of experience, Fuzzy Controller Design: Theory and Applications is a concise guide to the methodology, design steps, and formulations for effective control solutions.

Book Description
This text and reference offers an application-oriented approach to process control. It systematically explains process identification, control and optimization, the three key steps needed to solve a multivariable control problem. Theory is discussed as far as it is needed to understand and solve the defined problem, while numerous examples written in MATLAB illustrate the problem-solving approach. A new software package for linear multivariable process identification and control is included with the book on CD-ROM. This package combines unique features of some multivariable control tools, while a detailed description of this software package is included in a separate appendix.

Book Description
Telecommunications has evolved and grown at an explosive rate in recent years and will undoubtedly continue to do so. As its functions, applications, and technology grow, it becomes increasingly complex and difficult, if not impossible, to meet the demands of a global network using conventional computing technologies. Computational intelligence (CI) is the technology of the future-and the future is now. Computational Intelligence in Telecommunications Networks offers an in-depth look at the rapid progress of CI technology and shows its importance in solving the crucial problems of future telecommunications networks. It covers a broad range of topics, from Call Admission Control, congestion control, and QoS-routing for ATM networks, to network design and management, optical, mobile, and active networks, and Intelligent Mobile Agents. Today's telecommunications professionals need a working knowledge of CI to exploit its potential to overcome emerging challenges. The CI community must become acquainted with those challenges to take advantage of the enormous opportunities the telecommunications field offers. This text meets both those needs, clearly, concisely, and with a depth certain to inspire further theoretical and practical advances.

Book Description
"The present edited volume is of special importance, and for various reasons: First of all, it is a most comprehensive and multifaceted coverage of broadly perceived fuzzy control in the literature. The editors have succeeded to collect papers from leading scholars and researchers on various subjects related to the topic of the volume. What is relevant and original is that - opposed to so many volumes on fuzzy control that are strongly technically oriented and covering a narrow spectrum of issues relevant to fuzzy control itself - the editors have adopted a more general and far sighted approach."
From the foreword by Janusz Kacprzyk
Besides the theory and application of fuzzy control, original results on special problems in fuzzy sets theory, like simulation, problems of measurement, connectives in fuzzy logic, neural network and genetic approaches, are presented.

Book Description
Intelligent agents are one of the most promising business tools in our information rich world. An intelligent agent consists of a software system capable of performing intelligent tasks within a dynamic and unpredictable environment. They can be characterised by various attributes including: autonomous, adaptive, collaborative, communicative, mobile, and reactive. Many problems are not well defined and the information needed to make decisions is not available. These problems are not easy to solve using conventional computing approaches. Here, the intelligent agent paradigm may play a major role in helping to solve these problems. This book, written for application researchers, covers a broad selection of research results that demonstrate, in an authoritative and clear manner, the applications of agents within our information society.

Book Description
Artificial intelligence has, traditionally focused on solving human-centered problems like natural language processing or common-sense reasoning. On the other hand, for a while now soft computing has been applied successfully in areas like pattern recognition, clustering, or automatic control. The papers in this book explore the possibility of bringing these two areas together.
This book is unique in the way it concentrates on building intelligent software systems by combining methods from diverse disciplines, such as fuzzy set theory, neuroscience, agent technology, knowledge discovery, and symbolic artificial intelligence. The first part of the book focuses on foundational aspects and future directions; the second part provides the reader with an overview of recently developed software tools for building flexible intelligent systems; the final section studies developed applications in various fields.
