Book Description
Few fields of medicine have witnessed such impressive progress as the diagnosis and treatment of liver tumors. Advances in imaging technology, the development of novel contrast agents, and the introduction of optimized scanning protocols have greatly facilitated the non-invasive detection and characterization of focal liver lesions. Furthermore, image-guided techniques for percutaneous tumor ablation have become an accepted alternative treatment for patients with inoperable liver cancer. This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the role of diagnostic and interventional radiology in respect of liver tumors. The volume moves from background sections on methodology and segmental liver anatomy to the main sections on the diagnosis of benign and malignant liver lesions. An integrated approach, focused on the correlation of ultrasound, CT, and MR imaging findings, is presented. Finally, a full section describes the principles, methods, and results of percutaneous tumor ablation techniques.

For speech contests, acting exercises, auditions or audience entertainment in a stage review, these short monologs are to theatre what Art Buchwald is to journalism. Warm. Funny. And best of all - real! Sixty-five characterizations for girls, boys, and both together. Any young person will relate to the topics of these scripts. And they will like them as performance material that is "scarefree." The only book of nontheatrical monologs we know of.
Customer Reviews:
Encore! An Absolute Winner!.......2006-03-29
This is the perfect book for an audition or cold reading. I needed to have a monolog for my theatre class and this was just the thing! The monologs in this book are so perfect for kids. It has monologs for any style of audition and some of the monologs are just hilarious! I truly don't know who wouldnt like this book!
This book is okay........2001-12-05
I didn't really like this book. The monologs were of an unusual sort, they were really abnormal, that is, most of them were. They also were hard to "act" to. They just weren't my style.
It was o.k........2001-08-04
this was a pretty good book expected i expected more! it said in the add WINNING and it wasnt really the kind you act out on stage with they were the kind you express yourself or make up a little play for your friends and that is not what i expected i was very disappointed because now i have to find a new book.
Excellent.......2001-02-15
I found this book excellent for monologues. Trying out for an acting club, we used monologues from here as our cold readings. They put everyone at ease because they are so perfect for kids. Everyone got really into the monologue they were assigned. In the club, we will perform live with big puppets like they use on tv. For each of our puppets, we will use one of these monologues. They're fantastic! The kids we perform for will absolutely love the monologues!
didn't find this one helpful.......1999-05-26
a friend of mine gave me this book in preperation for a professional audition i had coming up and i found nothing in it worth performing. the conclusion that i came to is that the peices selected in the book are somewhat shallow and it's my opinion that if a young actor wants to "win" with whatever he/she is performing, that the material will need to be more real to life and personal to the performer. i don't meant to say that the book would not be usefull for acting excersises or cold reading work, i am, however, saying that young actors such as myself need more of a challenge in their performing than this book gives, especially for something as important as an audition.

Great Book on Microwave NDT&E ..........2006-03-09
Dear Candidate Buyers,
I am a Ph.D. student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in SUNY. I bought this book almost 2 months ago, and after buying from Amazon I used the book very often.
I am studying on Characterization of Dielectric Materials by a Microwave Non-Destructive method. The book is generally written good, but I do recommend this book to people studying and working on the special area of Characterization of Materials by Microwaves.
You can find in the literature lots of studies of the authors V. V. Varadan and V. K. Varadan, on characterization of materials by free-space non-destructive method. Their research group is one of the big scientic groups on Microwave NDT&E (Non-Destructive Testing and Evaluation).
As a result, I rate this book 5 out of 5, but want to notify the prospective buyers of this book that this book is written for a book on a specific subject (characterization of materials by microwaves), it is not a text book (in my opinion).
Bye

Book Description
Modern science and technology, from materials science to integrated circuit development, is directed toward the nanoscale. From thin films to field effect transistors, the emphasis is on reducing dimensions from the micro to the nanoscale.
Fundamentals of Nanoscale Film Analysis concentrates on analysis of the structure and composition of the surface and the outer few tens to hundred nanometers in depth. It describes characterization techniques to quantify the structure, composition and depth distribution of materials with the use of energetic particles and photons.
The book describes the fundamentals of materials characterization from the standpoint of the incident photons or particles which interrogate nanoscale structures. These induced reactions lead to the emission of a variety of detected of particles and photons. It is the energy and intensity of the detected beams that is the basis of the characterization of the materials. The array of experimental techniques used in nanoscale materials analysis covers a wide range of incident particle and detected beam interactions.
Included are such important interactions as atomic collisions, Rutherford backscattering, ion channeling, diffraction, photon absorption, radiative and nonradiative transitions, and nuclear reactions. A variety of analytical and scanning probe microscopy techniques are presented in detail.

Book Description
Materials scientists, polymer chemists, surface physicists and materials engineers will find this book a complete and detailed treatise on the field of polymer brushes, their synthesis, characterization and manifold applications. In a first section, the various synthetic pathways and different surface materials are introduced and explained, followed by a second section covering important aspects of characterization and analysis in both flat surfaces and particles. These specific surface initiated polymerization (SIP) systems such as linear polymers, homopolymers, block copolymers, and hyperbranched polymers are unique compared to previously reported systems by chemisorption or physisorption. They have found their way in both large-scale and miniature applications of polymer brushes, which is covered in the last section. Such 'hairy' surfaces offer fascinating opportunities for addressing numerous problems of both academic and, in particular, industrial interest: high-quality, functional or protective coatings, composite materials, surface engineered particles, metal-organic interfaces, biological applications, micro-patterning, colloids, nanoparticles, functional devices, and many more. It is the desire of the authors that this book will be of benefit to readers who want to "brush-up on polymers".
Customer Reviews:
Not for Females.......2002-07-06
I bought this book thinking that I could use these pieces in auditions, but because most of them are for males, they don't work for me. A couple are decently funny, but I found it strange that in a few of them, they listed things. For instance, dates... It's very hard to pull an audition piece of any comedic measure from a list of things you are supposed to say. So, I definetely would not reccomend this book.
GOOD BOOK, IF YOUR MALE.......1999-12-07
Though the book does have many interesting monologs for students, they are mainly for males. If you are female, I would suggest you look elsewhere for good material. Almost 3/4 of this book was for male actors.
WOW, absolutley brilliant.......1999-09-23
I thought that the monologues were both genuine and interesting, it captivated my audience and I could have gone on for hours, thanks.
this humour is not everybody's cup of tea.......1999-04-16
taste varies, but some of the humour used here is way off line - certainly by european standards. sorry - but i was really dissapointed.
Great book for practicing auditions........1999-01-24
There are 50 great reasons to buy this book. Buy if you want to know them. This focuses on young students like me. I highly suggest it.
Book Description
Semiconductors continue to get smaller with a tremendous increase in the density of devices that necessarily conduct electrons. Because of this density of functions and devices engineers and scientists are searching for practical and effective new materials that are non-conductive (dielectric) in order to build much smaller and viable gates through which electrons move without effecting parallel and overlapping operations.
Chip density and performance improvements have been driven by aggressive scaling of semiconductor devices. In both logic and memory applications, SiO2 gate dielectrics have reached its minimum thickness due to direct tunneling current and reliability concerns. Therefore high-k dielectrics have attracted a great deal of attention from industries as the replacement of conventional SiO2 gate dielectrics. So far, many of the candidate materials have been evaluated and Hf-based high-k dielectrics appears to be one of the promising materials for gate dielectrics.

Book Description
This book integrates those critical geologic aspects of reservoir formation and occurrence with engineering aspects of reservoirs, and presents a comprehensive treatment of the geometry, porosity and permeability evolution, and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs. The three major themes discussed are:
• the geometry of carbonate reservoirs and relationship to original depositional facies distributions
• the origin and types of porosity and permeability systems in carbonate reservoirs and their relationship to post-depositional diagenesis
• the relationship between depositional and diagenetic facies and producing characteristics of carbonate reservoirs, and the synergistic geologic-engineering approach to the exploitation of carbonate reservoirs.
The intention of the volume is to fully aquaint professional petroleum geologists and engineers with an integrated geologic and engineering approach to the subject. As such, it presents a unique critical appraisal of the complex parameters that affect the recovery of hydrocarbon resources from carbonate rocks. The book may also be used as a text in petroleum geology and engineering courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels.
