Repetitive But Highly Recommended.......2007-08-01
The bad: (1) very repetitive. (2) puts journal entries in there that are NO WAY actual entries... it's as if he just needed a way to mix up the otherwise rather dull text. (3) states things as fact a bit much... no discussion about, say, maybe these experiences are just lucid dreams with excellent recall? (That's what I view them as until such time as I can experience it all for myself).
The good: if you want to have an OBE or lucid dream, he gives a zillion different things to try: more suggestions of techniques than I've seen in any other single book... (not that I've read them all, mind you). For this reason, it's highly recommended: let's face it: you're probably looking for a book that will help you have an OBE... I think this book will help you in that pursuit more than probably just about any other single book out there.
The Best "How To" Book for Your Traveling Experience.......2007-07-08
William Buhlman has not only written a book that captivates you from the start with his own fantastic experiences of out-of-body travel, he has taken great care to give end of chapter points that help the reader remember the important stuff.
Buhlman approaches his subject with a positive thrust, not with any of the scary warnings that some other writers use. He clearly knows "who he is" and helps the reader come to understand that we are ALL powerful Beings that can do what he has done. He says right off that we do create our own experiences, so we must think positive to create a positive experience.
Chocked full of interesting and mind stretching experiences, this little book is devoid of extra padding that is useless to a reader. Buhlman sums up his final chapters with guided How To information, but also encourages the reader to explore even beyond the writer's experiences. He firmly believes that "the world is your oyster" and you can create a wonderful, exciting life beyond the veil of flesh that we live here in the 3D world.
One of my library treasures, this book is a goldmine of information.

dude!!!!!!! how in the f--k is it possible for us to be able to do this?!! i dont think we are "just human beings"! my god, what exactly in the hell are we?! the main thing i cant stop thinking about is how does the entire world not know? I dont care how intellectual one may think they are; after this experience you will feel like you were an ape. hey, but this sh-t does get very scary tho, i must admit. there's a section in this book that aims on helping to conquer your fears.

As a Druid High Priestess whom runs a large circle and runs PsychicSpellCaster.com, I can honestly tell you that this is full of very real information. Information that explains how the metaphysical is not really a mystical 'secret'- it is all explainable and can be used in a persons life to create a better life. The book can be heavy at times, but the format it is printed in really makes reading it easier (nice graphics,seperate paragraphs for covered subjects).
Over the years,many clients and students of mine have approached me with an array of metaphysical questions that can be explained by Quantum Physics (which is the underlined thread in this book). Therefore in my professional opinion, this is a must read.
Misleading. Realistically this is a self-help book with no scientific connection........2007-08-11
This book/movie is good in that it at least briefly skimmed principles of quantum mechanics and probably provokes some optimistic thought in its readers. Unfortunately, they dragged the most precisely proven scientific theory out onto the self-help floor. I honestly don't see the connection between Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and learning to better control your life with your mind. Taken word for word these two things might mesh together, but really, this book/movie strips all science from quantum theory, turning it into a two hour message to learn how to think with your mind.
This book has no place citing quantum mechanics or anything remotely scientific. It might be useful if you want to stare at the ceiling and try to figure out how to guide your life with what you have behind your eyes. Go read something on philosophy if you want to discover something about thought that isn't purely scientific.
A beautiful book, though not much new.......2007-07-31
I loved the film, despite having already researched most of the information in it. The movie had an awesome way of presenting the information and putting it into a visual form, so i was looking forward to the book.
I was immediately impressed with its looks and high quality finish. Reading it though was a little dull. I am perhaps overly critical as the information was hardly new, however for those new to the quantum physics world this is a great starter. I was hoping for some new insights that the film missed, but no such luck.
I love having it on my shelf, and it was worth reading, but the film was far better. Buy this with little expectation and you will be happy with your buy.
Thought provoking.......2007-06-27
The chapter on the links between biochemistry and emotion makes the book worth buying. Knowing what is happening inside your body is the first step to controlling it.
I am not convinced that quantum physics is the reason that people can communicate beyond the ordinary five senses. None the less, I have refered back to the book several times and I do recommend it.
The Movie was Flawed... the Book is Flawed........2007-06-19
The physics in this book is stretched into philosophies that can't possibly be derived from the data. The movie was just as flawed, only more confusing due to its pace and the little Flubber guy.

No, this book won't change your life or anything, but if you're an enthusiastic reader of lay science books, like me, it's a must read. Gleick's style can get dense and repetitive at times, but the concepts that he is conveying are slippery, at best. It's hard to get an intellectual bead on them. So the repetition is appropriate.
And if you've ever wondered how in the universe order could evolve out of chaos, this book gives us a peak at the best clues there are to what lies behind the kimono.

Mathmeticians, physicists, and others that unlike me did not find college level calculus challenging may be slightly disappointed with this book. There are no real equations for the Mandelbrot Set on the cover or any of the other areas of the discipline that are illustrated so well throughout the book. I have to say that the book was extremely interesting and difficult to put down. The visual presentation rather than equations seemed effective to me and Gleick is a very good science writer. There is possibly no other book that has stirred interest in this subject as well as this book for the layman in its 20 years. If you're not disappointed that you won't need a calculator to read this, I think you would appreciate the explanations for this new perspective on physics, meterology, biology, geology and math. I think of this book many times when I see alluvial flow patterns in the sand, the veination of leaves, mammotous clouds. It's an eye opener to part of the world that you may not perceive or begin to understand without reading this book.
A pop-science take on Chaos.......2007-03-12
Is Chaos theory a new title? Or a catchy name tacked on to the science explained by non-linear math? Either way, James Gleick explains the emergence of a new non-mainstream science movement. Like most of his pop science work, Gleick delves into the history, personalities and impacts of the science, as opposed to the in depth mathematics behind it. Taken as that, it's a worthy book that meets it's goals - documenting what might have been the beginning of a great scientific revolution.

Chaos is as great a science book as it gets outside of some of the better than your average undergrad science textbooks; i'm talking about the good textbooks like "Project Physics Course" or Morris Kline's "Calculus". As noted by some who obviously have pride in knowing the real thing, these types of books are not the real thing; the real question is 'are they worth anything?' Yes! These general science books that are good general science books are philosophy books.
This Chaos theory book has been ranked pretty highly for its philosophizing as far as I can tell. To say the least, this is where my shock at contemporary supposedly 'intellectuals' goes up! James Gliek goes on and on(he even has a whole chapter called "Revolution" in the book) about how Chaos theory is a new science(o.k. it is), and that this new science raises questions about scientific method; to say the least, if chaos theory challenges you on scientific method, then your already dead in the water as far as an understanding of science and its methods are concerned! In fact, humanity takes steps backwards if a book that argues this stance is so popular with the 'intellectual' community. Ernst Casserir and Jacob Bronowski way back in the stone ages of the 1900's had all this figured out. Jacob Bronowski's books were published because his articles were so popular! What happened?
What happened is a new generation was born every fifteen to twenty years, and they just learned what they needed to.
Getting back to James Gliek's 'Chaos', he talks about how Chaos theory blows up the 'reductionist' views of science. Chaos theory is somehow more holistic than previous sciences. Never mind how he never mentions how Maxwell's electromagnetism 'combines' light with electricity; quantum mechanics derives chemistry, and General Relativity derives newtonian mechanics, he never even mentions how the abstract nature of mathematics works. Mathematics is an abstraction(not the popular notions of empty and vagueness); abstraction is the common form that any set of similar structures can take on; the famous example is how a couple of oranges and apples are two concrete examples of the common form of the number two. Abstraction is a unification; all of mathematics and science concepts are such unifications at one time or another. A strange attractor does not break this scientific methodology; it is as much an abstraction as any scientific concept.
Scientists seem to have lost track of all this including all these transhumanists who just happen to be nanotechnologists

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Not a bad book, but rather technical for my liking. This book is more for the chemist than the alchemist (if you know what I mean). I agree with the reviewer BJ Day, the spiritually esoteric aspects of the Akashic record was not touched upon at all. The closest he came to this, was mentioning how "Native Tribes were able to communicate beyond the range of human eye and ear. At times entire cultures were able to share information among themselves, even though they were not in any known form of contact with each other". Maybe Ervin Laszlo will give more of that in his 2nd edition (May 2007). He has a pretty impressive resume, and a interesting surname.
Why stop at the akashic ?.......2007-05-02
A very great scholarly book but i was a bit dissapointed with the conclusions he reached. he is coming from a scientific background and only very carefully concedes anything that might be labelled spiritualistic. That is fair enough ... keeps us from going off the rails completely but sometimes i wish great scholars wouldn't be so rigid. Sometimes academia gets in the way of other, far more intuitive and (ironically) RATIONAL conclusions. However, he does have the very great virtue of scientific rigour, so that you know if he admits for example telepathy into his discourse, that it must be solid.
He explains how information is transferred instantaneously
during phenomena like the quantum spook 'action at a distance' and telepathy (which he readily admits into his framework), and then poses the question 'how' is the information transferred , given that it must be faster than the speed of light. He also marvels at the level of 'coherence'
between organisms such as ourselves and our envoirnment, and again points to feedback loops and systems theory (covered very well by the way in
fritjof capras 'web of life').
Again the big question is 'how' - how does the information get 'fed back' so quickly on natures broadband, so to speak, in order to maintain such a high level of coherence. This points convincingly to another type of 'connectivity' - not translatory across a surface, but vertically towards a common center (in this case an omnipresent etheric, or common field sustaining and informing the observable world). The idea of the ether raises its head again and, inspite of mitchelson&morley it is very plausable. (incidentally, according to nature magazine, this was revisited in 1986 and traces of etheric wind WERE found, using more sensitive equipment. Where was the huge sensational reaction in the scientific community ? .... this is what i mean about scientific rigidity, or fear of ridicule).
This is how the book starts out, and it is very exciting, and then he goes on to posit the existence of the akashic field (read 'etheric field', vacumn or zero point field) which mystics and spiritual teachers have always maintained.
This field would explain neatly a range of phenomena - just like Lynn
mcTaggarts book 'the field' - in fact, basically, at this point he has just caught up with McTaggart.
I was then hoping he would maybe explore the possibilities of the other fields (or plenums / planes) , just as the esoteric literature tells us - ie. the astral plane, the mental plane, the causal plane etc. but he stops at the akashic. (in fairness, as a scientist he had to).
From there he says it is an information reservoir that 'informs' the physical world of phenomena, storing the information holographically in wave patterns - and that everyones conscious experience is stored there for everyone else to tap into ... (reminded me abit of Carlos Casteneda and the eagle devouring our awareness at the point of death).
The thing that dissapointed me is that he was dismissive of reincarnation and the idea of a soul existing as an entity within the field as 'unlikely' without giving any further explanation. He said that peoples experience of past lives were actually people just tapping into the field of all experience in a manner not unlike radio reception - ie. you pick up on the frequencies that resonate with your own. The consious experiences are recorded there , but there is no trace of the agent who put them there .... abit like the song being immortalised when burned (encoded) onto the cd , but the cd burner (the agent) itself dissapates)...The obvious extension of that analogy is who or what is the listener to the cd's ?
At the end of it all , and after many iterations of universal creation, all of the fields potential gets realised (in the form of these holographic, soliton like, patterns) and this is equivalent to all of the possibilities inherent within the mind of god becoming realised - or god has become self realised through us as his agents (yes ... very like the eagle devouring the awareness at the point of death). All the different possible permutations and combinations , that exist as potential , do eventually get materialised (or 'made observable') and their exact details get recorded in this field. Thus both the being and the becoming are in there (as they would have to be if they exist as potential within the mind of god) ... BUT, here he seems to take the path of the materialist when he seems to suggest that these wave patterns ARE the very mind of god. There is something missing in this picture ... it is like having a cd and no listener.
The esoteric literature would appear to suggest that we may well be thoughts in the mind of god, and that we are exactly as immortal as this gods mind is - no less. We don the clothes of many etheric planes (giving us for example a mental body and an astral body as well as the outward physical body), but we remain that immortal spark, that static point in eternity. The creative forces of the universe are inherent in us as much as in any God - at the level of our eternal core, it is we ourselves (as one) who spin the web of the outer worlds, including the sheath known as the akashic field.
Why can't there be other 'higher' agents, such as the soul and the monad within what the author has termed the akashic field ? Why does he just dismiss the idea of the soul incarnating as 'unlikely', and instead postulate something far more requiring of a leap of faith - ie. the cd's without a listener ? It could be a case of bringing a bit of scientific scepticism to bear , just for the sake of it , in order to compensate for the giant step taken in the direction of spirituality - so as not to TOTALLY alienate himself from his peers.
Its still a great work though - just a pity he restrained himself from going the whole hog.
Esoteric literature on the otherhand seems to maintain that we ARE immortal ... that we form collectively the mind of god, and that these forms are structured in a certain way (for example the numbers 3 and 7 seem to feature pretty heavily in the picture, as well as recursivity (galaxies of galaxies type of thing). The personality is the agent of the soul, and the soul is the agent of the monad. The soul spawns many personalities over many lifetimes(these do dissipate back into the field) and collects the conscious experience of each (this is the eagle). After a while the soul no longer needs the experience of physical matter ... its agent (the personality) is a perfected instrument and carries out the souls purpose in matter - just as the sculptors art eventually takes form through the heavy medium of marble, the souls vibration achieves a true and faithful expression in the world of matter. The personality is dispensed with and you just have a soul operating in the world. Eventually in a similar manner the soul itself is absorbed back into the monad ... and so on as long as there is freedom of thought within the mind of god, the process goes on and on - it is eternity itself. The mortality or immortality of the self would appear to be a question of identification ... if i identify myself with my personality, then i get a different answer than if i identify myself with my soul. In the second case i (soul) will survive death, in the first case (personality) no. Similarly at another level you would need to identify with the monad to get the happy answer. i think jesus identified with the very force of life itself (the father) ... and thus knew for certain that he was exactly as immortal as the creative forces themselves. One thing that can't be created is creativity itself - it has to preceed the creation, and thus the creative forces of the universe are immortal.

Although Mr. Wheatley is a little verbose in sections, his documentation of Zen Buddhistic Principles found throughout the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics, Theology, etc. forms a nice reference guide for anyone tuned into that wavelength. In particular, his explanation of how Godel's Theorem and Cantor's "Confusion" shed great light on the difference between GOD's Logic and Man's Logic should be a revelation to any undergraduate level math students who encounter these ideas for the first time. Curiously, Mr. Wheatley makes many misstatements about both Zen Buddhism Principles and the Bible, however. For example, by accepting the false biblical teaching of Original Sin, he misses the point that eating the proverbial apple gave Adam and Eve the ability to make Moral Discernments in fulfillment of GOD'S PERFECT PLAN. As proof, read Genesis 1 which states that Man and Woman were made in GOD's Image. Genesis 4 shows that Adam and Eve weren't the first humans on Earth at all, there were plenty of others by then. The allegorical meaning of the story of Eden, then, isn't that Adam and Eve were the first humans on Earth, but they were the first humans with the ability to make Moral Discernments (in GOD's Image). In fact, Moral Discernment is God's Unique Gift to Man, which is the basis of consciousness, not some Math Formula. But because the wages of the resulting, unavoidable sin are Death, many people foolishly try to return to Eden by: (1) living a sinless Life (2) by removing choice altogether by passing and enforcing strict Laws (3) by attempting to do away with Moral Discernment and the resulting consequences for our actions altogether by trying to remove Shame from Shameful actions. GOD is not some ethereal Man-In-Space, but is simply the Totality of all Real Things, The Set of All Real Sets. GOD's Love manifests itself from the amazing sub-atomic relationships that underly this magic Life all the way to the grandest of Macroscopic Scales, the Interconnected Totality itself. The Zen Buddhism connection can be found by simply superimposing the 0 symbol and the symbol for infinity (8 on its side) in Mr. Wheatley's supposedly "new" formulation that 1 = 0 x infinity. Superimposing them gives you the yin-yang symbol. A potential disadvantage of artificially separating the infinity from the zero, however, is that Mr. Wheatley is able to equate the entire expression to be equal to 1. This potentially might obscure the fact that the deepest meaning of the yin-yang symbol is that it is both 2 and 1 AT THE SAME TIME. His overall equation does preserve that important meaning by utilizing a single element on one side of the equation and two elements on the other side of his final TOE equation. This may be hard to see for some at first, however, which could potentially obscure the richest meaning of this beautiful symbol/equation. A much more GODLY TOE, in my opinion, comes from Euler, who discovered that e ^ (i * pi) - 1 = 0. When someone can explain that relationship, then they can say they know GOD.
A life changing experience??.......2005-06-13
This book is an easy read and does succeed in being somewhat thought-provoking. However, I am a little surprised at the awesome, "life changing" experience it apparently was for many of the readers. Wheatley's conclusions were interesting but nothing really new. All of his material should have passed through the mind of any thinking person without the aid of this book.
The reason I gave this book three stars is because he uses unneccessarily wordy ways of describing simple things. Also, the author and many other reviewers insist that Wheatley makes only one assumption. Wrong-his whole theory is one big assumption.
Overall though it was a very interesting and worthy book.

A Very Important Book.......2004-01-26
I must preface my review by stating that I have never been so excited and moved by a book that I have wanted to contact the author. That is what I found myself doing upon reading this book. This book is just what its title says. The author does not "miss a beat" describing in great detail using practically every aspect of scientific knowledge from atomic structure through logic to quantum theory---we are even given a valuable explanation of Love. This text may be challenging to read for those unfamiliar with scientific terminology. And it can also be difficult for those with a science background, such as myself. However, for me it is well worth the work necessary to strive to understand the unfamiliar terminology. (I am continually learning from this book. I am presently on my third reread).
One of the author's main messages is "not" to believe anything without first verifying it with reality, as we know it. He calls it the "Personal Explanation Principle". He indicates that religions are just such belief systems that we as people "fall" victims of; because we do not verify the beliefs with the facts, as we know them, of reality. He gives a very detailed explanation of how the New Testament can be explored using his methodology.
The author methodically and meticulously walks us through his thought processes, which took 30 years to assimilate, of delineating the structure of reality and the nature of consciousness. Included in the "walk" are many of reality's phenomena made revelatory. An example of that, for me, would be the dual nature of light. It's particle/wave duality, which is explained as "functions". Also, when the author took me on the mental journey of "Setness" an exhilaration of the magnificence of life swelled up in me.
To me this is a very important book that should be read by all that are seekers of truth. It is for all those wanting to gain an understanding of the purpose for their existence, wanting to know where life is headed towards, and wanting to know who God is.
This book will enlighten and develop one's mind substantially. You will discover that this is our objective.
And yes, I contacted the author and he responded openly.

This is a really great book. It combines philosophy and science in order to tackle a multitude of existential problems. The author's style of writing is fresh and alive, I recommend ths book to anyone interested in expanding the fronteirs of their understanding. Books I also liked are a Universe in an Nutshell by Steven Hawkings and Descent into Illusions by Paul Omeziri.

Mind into Matter is a book with many exotical ideas and interpetations (some sceptics may say convenient extrapolations) but it is an interesting backgorund for the things that may follow in the next years.

Repetitive and redundant.......2006-01-12
Of the thousands of books I've read in my life, and the hundreds I've actually purchased from Amazon.com, this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about a book to write any sort of review.
I kept waiting for the author to get to the point. He rambled and meandered and didn't tell me anything new whatsoever. He used the words "alchemy" and "alchemists" in almost every single paragraph of the book.
Skip this book - you'll get MUCH more out of the "Cosmic Trigger" series, "Quantum Psychology", or "Prometheus Rising" by R.A. Wilson.
In the Beginning Was the Word.......2005-11-02
Dr. Fred Alan Wolf has once again pricked our consciousness in order to awaken us to realities already within our grasp. In Mind Into Matter he explains in lay terms how thought transmutates into the material, and how we can therefore truly create not only our world, but the world we leave to our children. In essence, a "you-niverse" Recent centuries of scientific development have attempted to understand and describe all creation strictly as objective science, to the detriment and ignorance of the subjective. It's time the pendulum swung back a bit. By melding the ideas of the old alchemists with those of the new scientists, Wolf uses the language of quantum physics to describe what the alchemists and Qabalists have long called the Magnum Opus - the Absolute Realization.
I was fortunate enough to meet Dr Wolf to discuss his work in the company of an eclectic group that included local physicists, physician and mind-body guru Deepak Chopra, as well as musician Dave Stewart. All of this diverse and highly creative assemblage were mesmerized. As we dissolved into reading Rumi, quoting Newton, and evaluating neurophysiologic experiments, it became increasingly clear how Wolf's concepts collate all of that wisdom. Wolf's work should be studied by all who wish to develop consciousness to a higher level not only to contribute to their own well being, but that of the planet.
Highly recommended for anyone, regardless of scientific background.
An Inspiring View of Consciousness & Reality.......2005-01-11
I'm very picky about books that deal with the relationship between physics and consciousness, but this one I like. In books of this sort, the understanding of physics is often too limited, while on the other hand there is frequently very little appreciation for the depth of ancient metaphysical traditions. This book does a very good job of working with both sides in a highly intelligent yet readable manner.
For anyone into Hermeticism or Kabbalah, it is especially noteworthy that Wolf has organized a signfiicant portion of his book around an esoteric understanding of the Herbrew letter-numbers. The particular system he uses was developed by Carlo Suares, a little known yet influential mystic, author, artist and somewhat unorthodox Jewish Kabbalist. Wolf met Suares and began learning about his ideas in the 1970s. Suares' greatest contribution to Kabbalah was an interpretation of the letter-numbers as representations of recurring dynamics and patterns in terms of both consciousness and physics. Suares' book, The Cypher of Genesis, would be a good introduction to his theory and practice of Kabbalah, and an excellent companion to Mind into Matter.
Of course, Wolf's own qualifications in theoretical physics are well established. For more than two decades he has been a consistent leader in challenging the long worn-out mindset that existence is best experienced, explored and explained as essentially an accidental and random interaction of quanta. In this book Wolf allows himself to dive a little deeper into the spiritual implications of his work. Perhaps the best thing about Wolf's writing is that it is more than scientifically sound and philosophically poignant, it is actually inspiring literature! Wolf artfully weaves together insights from a wonderful scope of human inquiry - physics, depth psychology, mysticism, and alchemy - in a way that is head and shoulders above the slipshod speculations common to authors of the "New Age" genre.
Fred Alan Wolf's works will stand the test of time, and this one should be included among his essential readings.

At an Esalen Institute meeting in 1976, tai chi master Al Huang said that the Chinese word for physics is Wu Li, "patterns of organic energy." understandable to normal people.......2007-07-27
Read this book a few years ago and just bought it recently for my wife so she could understand what I was talking about sometimes, and to tie in with other reading she is doing that mentions quantum physics. It explains the basic concepts in clear terms, making much more sense out of a VERY abstract field. If you want to understand what it is about, this is a good place to start.

I think the virtue of this book is that it challenges the established scientific paradigm that the universe is made of discrete particles. In other words, that matter is as solid as it seems and somehow energy is separate from matter. It also makes it clear that there are plenty of mysteries left to explore about the nature of the universe, even the physical universe. In addition, it stresses the interrelationships between things and what the implications might be with respect to different subject areas such as psychology.
While it's true Zukav doesn't explain the physics in depth, it does give a layman a sense of the physics is about, what it may mean and good food for thought about how this might relate to spirituality. The book is not a science text, it is a flight of imagination and a pretty good one. Much of the contents is highly speculative, but it is thought provoking and easy to follow.
If you are a scientist or a well-read layman in the area of physics, you might be disappointed. Also, if you have a deep knowledge of Eastern religion you might find it superficial and perhaps even a bit annoying. I think this books makes a sacrifice in terms of accuracy for depth and wonder. As such, it doesn't quite captivate either major audience. However, it is a useful starting point for many people into these often difficult to understand areas.
With respect to organization, I would agree that there is room for improvement. However, it not meant to be a textbook. I can give the author some wiggle room on this because in some ways, it is rather poetic and its value is to convey a sense of awe and wonder. In the regard, I think the author achieved his purpose, but sometimes at the expense of accuracy.

I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced by the author's point of view, but he certainly succeeds in giving you a better understanding of QM and the philosophical questions involved in it.
No Strings Attached.......2007-02-24
This dated book simplifies the historical journey of discovery that became quantum physics. The author proposes interrelationships among: science/scientists, Jungian psychology, eastern mysticism, philosophy & logic, & languaging. Readers vary greatly, finding the physics (even w/o math): daunting, wonderfully enlightening, or boring, depending on the reader. The author simplifies physics mostly in layman's terms, but esoteric ideas are the nature of modern physics--outside the box. As a former physicist, I find his attempt quite admirable; as a former electronics engineer, I wish he'd addressed the error factor. As for accuracy, I cannot personally say, but Jack Sarfatti (whom I highly respect) stated that he'd created/reviewed the physics. Zukav's definitions of technician vs. physicist are relevant too--technicians may be challenged by the open-minded, brain-storming nature of physicists. Many (e.g. Bohm) approach (if not reach) Buddhist viewpoints. I've extensively studied Buddhism & agree with Zukav overall--indeed, he quotes Bohr, Stapp, et al in support of an interrelated universe--but some of his extrapolations are hyperbolic overstatements--reminding me of Gershom Scholem, the historian who popularized Kabbalah. Neither kabbalist nor mystic, his historical analysis was superb; his personal opinions weren't.
IMHO great value lies in exploding the either-or way people tend to view Reality (even in Buddhist philosophy!) which, per Zukav, Einstein, Heisenberg, et al, is only our View of actuality. Unreality has been defined as reifying former conclusions--i.e. forming a conclusion, forgetting it was only a conclusion, & taking it as the truth. This resembles psychological neuroses which are often a child's ways of coping with the world unconsciously continued into the present. Conclusions are analogies & all analogies are wrong--or they'd be identities. Thus, the periodic table, phyla of biology, concepts of waves & particles ...are all inherently incorrect--an error factor must be invoked. If so, the platypus won't upset the biologist & light won't upset the physicist. If water can be gas, liquid, or solid, why can't light be multi-stable? As Zukav states: p. 134: "We often discredit what we know when it contradicts what we have been taught is possible," p. 311: Henry Stapp "Everything we know about nature is in accord with the idea that the fundamental processes of nature lie outside space-time," & p. 313-4 fn: "According to Sarfatti's theory, the wave function of the photon pair is at a `higher level of reality' than the wave function of the separate photons...Every step up to a new level of reality is a step to a new order--that is the definition of a level of reality. of our multilevel hierarchical reality, i.e. the wave functions of events which are `separate' on one level of reality are correlated at the next level up: `separate events' at that level are, in turn, correlates at the next level up, & so on." This definitely parallels the four worlds of Kabbalah & reasonably correlates with the "kayas" (bodies or dimensions) of Tibetan Buddhism.

What a pity the two responses to "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" chosen as "spotlight" reviews are both cynical and derogatory. I hope they don't deter others from reading further. Neither reviewer seemed to grasp the fact that Gary Zukav was not writing about physics: He was writing about mental mastery in the *context* of physics, going to great lengths to explain the implications of "Wu Li." The whole book, in fact, is based on five of the many representations of "Wu Li." Zukav even says in the introduction, "This is not a book about physics or eastern philosophies."
All the same, Zukav checked his facts out with "five of the finest physicists in the world" and footnotes their comments where they "punctuate, illustrate, annotate and jab at everything in the text." What more can you want? Those physicists even allowed themselves to be named, surely professional suicide if Zukav is substantially incorrect - as some reviewers maintain. Zukav also warns the reader that knowledge in physics at the time of writing was set to progress rapidly. What was accepted then would soon be made redundant as more information arose.
I feel really sorry for those who get no joy out of this book. I, for one, will go back to it again and again out of sheer delight. Zukav puts it this way: "Most people believe that physicists are explaining the world. Some physicists even believe that, but the Wu Li masters know they are only dancing with it."
All I can say is that, with this book, I danced too.
