          Book Description

New advances offer flexible, low-cost fabrication methods for light-emitting materials, particularly in display technologies. As researchers continue to develop novel applications for these materials, feasible solutions for large-scale manufacturing are increasingly important. Organic Light-Emitting Materials and Devices covers all aspects of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), focusing on the unique characteristics of electroluminescent materials, device structures, and fabrication technologies. Written by internationally recognized experts across several fields, this book first explains the multilayered structure and fundamental physics that account for OLED design. The book compiles information on the synthesis, properties, and device performance of nearly 1,000 organic small molecule- and polymer-based electroluminescent materials. It also investigates practical manufacturing techniques for OLED fabrication as well as methods used for microstructural characterization, performance measurement, and defect analysis. Later chapters discuss the patent status of the currently employed organic light-emitting materials, potential applications of OLEDs, and the challenges facing future developments from both academic and industrial perspectives. Incorporating the latest research on hundreds of light-emitting organic materials, Organic Light-Emitting Materials and Devices reflects the current understanding of molecular design in the field and reveals the most stable and efficient electroluminescent materials as well as the vast potential for future applications.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent undergraduate-level textbook in electroceramics.......1999-02-16

The electroceramics community, in general, has been suffering from a lack of good textbooks which cover all major fields of interest of the subject in a clear and comprehensive manner. The book by Moulson and Herbert is an outstanding exception to that. It can conveniently be used as a senior undergraduate or a first year graduate text. The first 2 chapters of the book summarize the prerequisite background needed in the solid state sciences and ceramic/materials processing, respectively. In the following chapters, a wide range of materials such as conductors, linear dielectrics, piezoelectrics, magnetic materials etc. are presented. The text is easy to read. The underlying physical principles of each subject are well blended with the materials related phenomena, thus providing the the reader with the "broader picture" in a concise fashion. The book contains well-chosen self study problems at the end of each chapter which address practical engineering problems as well as fundamental principles. It is my hope that more books like this will come along soon so that the materials science and engineering students are as well served as their peers in other disciplines in the sciences and engineering. I highly recommend this book for those who are seeking a good textbook and/or for those who would like to self-study the subject.

          Book Description

Described as THE classic text on magnetism, FERROMAGNETISM covers the basics of magnetics, as well as in-depth coverage of magnetic materials. IEEE Press has now brought this important cornerstone of magnetics research back into print. Recognized for its breadth of coverage, this book includes information on magnetic phenomenon and theories, magnetic materials, basic magnetization and domain theory, as well as many fundamental expressions, and useful technical data on many materials.

          Customer Reviews:

          4 out of 5 stars Great in 1951 - Good in 2007 .......2007-08-03

Bozarth's book is very, very thorough - for the technology of 1951. It is well-written and packed with both practical and theoretical information. For example, magnetically soft materials are discussed in exceptional detail, including their chemistry, manufacturing methods, and performance data. In contrast, coverage of magnetically hard material is inadequate. Alnico permanent magnets are the most current types it addresses. PM technology has come a long, long way since 1951. So too have a few other technologies I can think of. Although Bozorth's book remains worthwhile, the immutable consequences of passing time takes a toll that is discernable. Certainly the book is not worth the $140.00 retail price suggested by Wiley - which leads to my next point.

Wiley's 1993 edition of "Ferromagnetism" appears to be an exact reprint of the original version first published in 1951. I base this conclusion on a close review of the downloadable excerpts available on the Wiley-IEEE website. The table of contents are IDENTICAL in every respect, right down to the page numbers. The preface and first chapters are also the same, word-for-word. This is the fifth or sixth case I have come across, wherein an outdated technical book has been "repackaged" with a more recent publication date. In my view, this practice is designed to intentionally mislead consumers of technology-related material, which changes quickly. My rating of four stars relates to the book itself, in the year 2007. As for Wiley, a proper thrashing in the woodshed seems in order.

4 out of 5 stars lots of information.......2004-09-17

This book gives one all the information one needs to get a good handle on magnetic properties of materials and how the latter vary as a function of almost any parameter one can think of.
The only problem is its age, which makes the chapters dealing with magnetic theory and measurement techniques a bit outdated (this explains the 4 stars). However, these last two subjects are treated extensively in other more recent books.
Nevertheless, this a very useful book to have which covers all the aspects of ferromagnetism in a clear and concise manner.

5 out of 5 stars Very useful magnetic data book.......2001-01-16

This book gives a huge amount of magnetic properties data (saturation field density, permeability, magnetisation etc) for metals such as Iron and nickel, but more importantly, a vast magnetic data for a wide range of Fe-Ni alloys and Fe-Co-Ni. Also it shows the effect of heat treatment and mechanical work on these properties.

If I recall right, this book first published in 1951.

            Book Description

The theoretical understanding of transport properties of semiconductor structures on short length and short time scales, and in the nonlinear high-field regime is of particular relevance for future electronic and optoelectronic materials. In recent years great progress has been made in a variety of aspects. Theory of Transport Properties of Semiconductor Nanostructures presents a state-of-the-art overview of theoretical methods, results, and applications in the field. It contains eleven chapters which are written by leading researchers. This book starts with a tutorial introduction to the subject, then in the following five chapters a hierarchy of different approaches to transport theory is presented, descending from a macroscopic level (quasihydrodynamic simulation) via semiclassical Monte Carlo techniques and cellular automata to a full quantum transport theory covering both Green's functions and density matrix theory. In the last five chapters the formalism is applied to more specific topics which are of great current interest such as transport in mesoscopic structures, chaotic dynamics in lateral superlattices, Bloch oscillations and Wannier-Stark localization, field domain formation in superlattices, and scattering processes in low-dimensional structures.
Theory of Transport Properties of Semiconductor Nanostructures is aimed at physicists, electronic engineers, materials scientists and applied mathematicians. It may be used in research, as a professional reference in microelectronics, optoelectronics, and graduate teaching. This book should be useful not only to graduate students but also to professional scientists working in the field. It attempts to present comprehensive reviews of the most important advances, and often takes a tutorial approach.

              Book Description

This book provides the knowledge and understanding necessary to comprehend the operation of individual electronic devices that are found in modern micro-electronics. As a textbook, it is aimed at the third-year undergraduate curriculum in electrical engineering, in which the physical electronic properties are used to develop an introductory understanding to the semiconductor devices used in modern micro-electronics.

The emphasis of the book is on providing detailed physical insight into the microscopic mechanisms that form the cornerstone for these technologies. Mathematical treatments are therefore kept to the minimum level necessary to achieve suitable rigor.

              Book Description

Liquid crystals are a state of matter that possess properties of both solid and liquids. Owing to its unique physical properties, liquid crystals have found important applications in optics and optoelectronics, including the expanding technology of flat panels. This book presents an engineering-oriented, practical treatment of the optics of liquid crystal displays. It covers all aspects of the technology, beginning with the simplest case of plane wave propagation in homogeneous media, and gradually building up to more advanced concepts. With few books available even on related subjects, this title certainly fills a gap in the field.

5 out of 5 stars A very helpfull and readable textbook.......2000-01-28

A few fundamental principles like Maxwell's equations are used in the book to develop successful theory. Thorough examples help to apply the theory to very broad range of actual technological problems of modern optical science. It makes the book of great use to graduate students and to anyone having good mathematical background.
