Book Description
This wholly revised edition of a classic handbook reference, written by some of the most eminent practitioners in the field, is designed to be your all-in-one source book on heat transfer issues and problem-solving. It includes the latest advances in the field, as well as covering subjects from microscale heat transfer to thermophysical properties of new refrigerants. An invaluable guide to this most crucial factor in virtually every industrial and environmental process.
Customer Reviews:
Not a handbook for 'rule of thumb' engineering.......2006-12-16
This book is a resource for understanding/solving complex heat transfer. There are no pages wasted on useless information, just vital information pertinent to the topic. The book is well laid out and well referenced. The chapter on heat pipes is a bit lacking. Overall an excellent heat transfer reference.
Where's the useful stuff?.......2005-08-28
You could spend the rest of your life reading this book! It would be useful for any professor or A student or other intellectual studying the material in depth. But for a practicing engineer who has little available time to ponder the specifics, it would take a "lot" of effort to find material that could be put to work in this text. If you are interested in deriving the equations you need yourself, or if you're analysing a unique design, then this is the book for you. But if you are busy with standardized systems and technology, find another reference.
A Misleading Description.......2004-12-16
I was expecting more tables and equations especially for natural convection external flow. There is also very little useful information about forced convection external flow. I also would have liked to see some sample calculations to demonstrate how to use this book better.
There is plenty of theory despite the product's description and most of it is probably unnecessary for a handbook. It's more like a big, expensive text for heat transfer than a handbook. A person would have to be an engineer, mathematician, or physicist to deal with the level of mathematics presented in this book.
There is a fair amount of information about internal flow for both forced and natural convection, but this book's value is quite limited. I am dissappointed with this book and would not purchase it again if I lost it.
Reference book for engineers.......2004-04-02
This is not an introductory book on heat transfer! Instead it is a thorough treatment on heat transfer in a stringent an extensive manner. This book places greater emphasis on correctness than "easy-to-understand-ness". However, if you do read it, you gain a lot compared to most introductory heat transfer books. If you are interested in forced convection heat transfer, this book gives well documented equations and charts for a great number of shapes, though mostly internal flow. This is a very serious book for serious engineers!
A very useful reference.......2001-06-29
I found very useful the way thermal conductivity was approached. I was used to solve simple problems by means of "Temperature response charts". Now it is possible to use formulas instead of graphs.

Customer Reviews:
CD is a waste of time...........2006-11-02
OK- it's Perry's! Standard Perry's... there no phenomenal extra features... the packing is fairly nice though.. BUT the CD.. I cannot get the CD to self run- I can't get it to work period!!
I would give the damn thing 10 stars.......2006-04-21
If you are a Chem-E and don't own this book then you might as well kill yourself, or switch to mechanical.
The CD doesn't replace the hardcopy.......2006-03-20
The platinum edition is perfect - CD and hardcopy. While the CD doesn't replace the hardcopy it is very handy for it's portability and the accuracy of the 'active charts'.
The book is much more user friendly than the CD and if you can only afford one or the other then I'd recommend buying the book.
It can be quite difficult to find things on the CD version and it is slower than it needs to be as it always works off the CD drive (copying the CD onto the hard drive isn't an option).
perry's chemical engineers - very good deal.......2006-02-25
great deal!
i recommend it for anyone
Convenient for labs.......2005-10-06
The hardcopy Perry's is a fun bedside table read for chemical engineers, and makes an excellent review manual. But it is bulky and heavy to lug around to labs or study rooms, and so the CD's that are part of this edition are first rate tools to load on your laptop so that Perry's tables and measurements in searchable format( the next thing to 'The Force' that there is a for chemical engineers) is aways with you. Excellent item, and fortunately Amazon had it at an attractive price. It is a bonus to also have the hard copy. Good item to have for your 3d year forward, and essential for grad students or working engineers.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Resource.......2006-07-14
Excellent resource for MEP, plumbing and piping engineers. Provides thorough descriptions of pressure losses, treatments, correct valve uses and lots more. This book, when coupled with a CAD pipe library (such as Hercule Design's ANSI one), has all a designer needs. The inclusion of metric formulae is also most welcome.
wealth of knowledge.......2005-04-30
All the basic information on pumps, compressors, piping, plumbing, and any kind of specialty equipment used for any facility you could imagine.
There is everything from piping connection and configuration of an underground gasoline tank to details on the design of animal laboratories. The book is full of charts and solid recommendations on materials and methods.
Even if you think you know a chapter's subject extremely well, this book will have new and useful information that will extend your knowledge considerably.
If you do mechanical/piping design for commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities this book is an incredible buy.
Facility Piping Systems Handbook by Michael Frankel.......2000-08-10
This is one of the finest books about facilities systems I have ever found. It's rather banal title is misleading, because this book covers every aspect of the very complicated piping systems that serve institutional, industrial and even residential buildings. To give you an example, the chapter on compressed gas systems explains the working mechanisms of 10 types of compressor motors, and then goes on to explain silencers, aftercoolers, filters (and how to select filters) air dryers (with explanations and diagrams of the verious types), lubricators, air compressor drives, pressure regulation, cooling water, hose and fittings. Then in the same chapter it explains specialized features of compressed gas for light industrial uses, laboratories, and hospitals. And this is just one chapter. There are another 18 chapters with similar levels of detail and comprehensiveness, including vacuum systems, site utilities, general plumbing, waste, even animal care facility systems. This is a terrific book.

Product Description
VOLUME II
PART 2. FLUID MECHANICS AND HEAT TRANSFER
This essential part of the 2002 Handbook provides the basic information on topics such as single and two phase fluid flow, convective heat transfer, radiative heat transfer, condensation, boiling, etc. The present edition has been extensively revised and extended. CFD techniques are covered, as is turbulence modeling. Both liquid and gas fluidized bed sections have been expanded, as has the Section dealing with non-Newtonian flow. Multiphase flow has been revised and updated. Pressure drop prediction methods have been brought to current practice levels.
Single-phase heat transfer in ducts and cross-flow is one of the keystone areas for heat exchanger design. It has been rearranged to include smooth straight tubes, annuli, and tube banks and new dimensionless correlations. Packed beds have been extensively covered.
A new major section on porous media is presented. Multiphase heat transfer is thoroughly covered. Enhancement has been included. Industrial boiling equipment and design are presented in depth and new equations and systems are discussed. Deterioration of heat transfer coefficients in multicomponent systems is analyzed. Dynamically and statically stable foams are covered in new sections, with prediction of low-energy consumption
