Complete with a comprehensive set of examples and homework problems, Principles of Magnetic Resonance Imaging is the must-read book to improve your knowledge of this revolutionary technique.
Customer Reviews:
Great Textbook.......2004-04-02
This is an excellent textbook. Easy to follow if you are comfortable with Electromagnetics already. Lot's of math and examples inside. Make sure u get this book first, if you study MRI.
A definitive text for the signal processing of MRI.......2000-12-09
Magnetic resonance has recently recieved many riches in the form of excellent, definitive texts that have bundled together the advances of the last 20 or so years. Drs. Liang and Lauterbur have added to this trove by writing a text that goes beyond the standard descriptions of magnetic resonance image formation and including many advanced techniques available today, some of which they originated. The ideal audience for this text includes scientists, engineers, and physicians actively developing MRI applications from the physics on up. Though containing many recent developments it contains a core of medical imaging information that will not be outdated. The mathematical depth is sufficient to serve as a reference of basic and sophisticated methods but with enough pedagogical information to tutor the interested student. Liang and Lauterbur should be on the shelf of any serious professional or insightful student.
Excellent coverage of MR physics, however complicated maths........2000-05-21
The selection of the chapters and the overall coverage of this book are excellent. It provides an outstanding and detailed description of MR physics and of how MR signals are generated and processed. However, not being an engineer or a physicist but a MD interested in MRI, I had some problems with the mathematical background required to understand the formulas used in this book. I feel that the book would be greatly improved if a more detailed explanation to the mathematics were given. At this point, I would recommend this book to graduate students or Ph.D.'s in physics, in biomedical or in electrical engineering, who want to understand in detail the principles of MR signal generation and processing. Because of the somewhat complicated mathematics, the book might be somewhat less destined, but still of interest, to radiologists and MRI physicians who, like me, want to enhance their understanding of MR physics and signal processing.

PACS: Basic Principles and Applications integrates a comprehensive introduction to the imaging modalities and technical fundamentals of "filmless radiology" with clear guidelines for designing and implementing a PACS system. Written by a leading expert and featuring numerous illustrations, line drawings, and schematic diagrams, this practical, user-friendly resource includes individual chapters on such topics as:
* Digital radiologic image fundamentals
* Industry standards, with an emphasis on HL7 and DICOM
* Image compression
* Image acquisition gateways
* Communications and networking
* System design, installation, and evaluation
* Clinical applications and pitfalls
* Future development of PACS
PACS: Basic Principles and Applications is an essential reference and invaluable sourcebook for radiologists and radiology residents and technologists, as well as for imaging facility planners and support staff.
Customer Reviews:
The one book on PACs that deserves to be on everyone's shelf.......2001-07-04
This book is a MUST read for anyone involved in PACs. It has something for everyone, from a PACs administrator to an engineer configuring systems. Dr. Huang covers a wide range of material, including the basics of projectional x-ray, how different modalities work, to PACs and all of PACs elements. The book's emphasis is on the basics and principles, however. Don't look for specific companies or technology. I was also surprised that Cardiology and Clinical Imaging Systems were omitted. That said, I have not found a more complete book on the subject of PACs. The text is easy to read and the concepts clearly explained. If you need to ramp your knowledge up quickly on PACs or need a reference to use the investment in this book is WELL worth it.
Great intro for engineers (or anyone else) new to imaging.......1999-10-04
I am a software engineer who has worked for many years in various areas of computer connectivity. I recently accepted a position with a provider of DICOM (Digital Imaging And Communication In Medicine) software packages.
I needed to get up to speed fast on the overall architecture of imaging systems and PACS. I needed a birds-eye view of the various image acquisition devices and the information management systems linking them. This book provided everything I needed. Worth the money!
Great one volume coverage on PACS.......1999-06-09
One of the few available books on PACS. Highly recommended for people who want to study PACS based on one book, instead of going all out to read lots of academic papers. Cover all major concepts. Sort of expensive, though.

Book Description
Advances in digital signal processing algorithms and computer technology have combined to produce real-time systems with capabilities far beyond those of just few years ago. Nonlinear, adaptive methods for signal processing have emerged to provide better array gain performance, however, they lack the robustness of conventional algorithms. The challenge remains to develop a concept that exploits the advantages of both-a scheme that integrates these methods in practical, real-time systems. The Advanced Signal Processing Handbook helps you meet that challenge. Beyond offering an outstanding introduction to the principles and applications of advanced signal processing, it develops a generic processing structure that takes advantage of the similarities that exist among radar, sonar, and medical imaging systems and integrates conventional and nonlinear processing schemes.

Book Description
The popularity of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in medicine is no mystery: it is non-invasive, it produces high quality structural and functional image data, and it is very versatile and flexible. Research into MR technology is advancing at a blistering pace, and modern engineers must keep up with the latest developments. This is only possible with a firm grounding in the basic principles of MR, and Advanced Image Processing in Magnetic Resonance Imaging solidly integrates this foundational knowledge with the latest advances in the field. Beginning with the basics of signal and image generation and reconstruction, the book covers in detail the signal processing techniques and algorithms, filtering techniques for MR images, quantitative analysis including image registration and integration of EEG and MEG techniques with MR, and MR spectroscopy techniques. The final section of the book explores functional MRI (fMRI) in detail, discussing fundamentals and advanced exploratory data analysis, Bayesian inference, and nonlinear analysis. Many of the results presented in the book are derived from the contributors' own work, imparting highly practical experience through experimental and numerical methods. Contributed by international experts at the forefront of the field, Advanced Image Processing in Magnetic Resonance Imaging is an indispensable guide for anyone interested in further advancing the technology and capabilities of MR imaging.
Customer Reviews:
Defines the State of the Art as it Exists Today.......2005-11-29
The hardware development in Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology seems to have slowed down. We now have equipment that is reaching maturity, or at least slowing down in terms of major breakthroughs. Note that this is the case in hardware. In software it is an entirely different picture. The basic analog signals that are comming out of the MRI sensors may have slowed down in terms of change, but the development of ever more powerful software has not. If anything, the rate of change in the software area has increased rather than decreased.
Consequently books like this one that portend to give an overview of the newest developments have to be written like this one. To keep up with the current trends, this book has each chapter written by a specialist in the particular field covered by that specialist. To anyone working in the area of MR imaging, this book defines the state of the art as it exists today and points the direction that current research is taking the field.
This is not a book for beginners, but for the advanced reader it is indispensible.
