In spite of the impressive predictive power and strong mathematical structure of quantum mechanics, the theory has always suffered from important conceptual problems. Some of these have never been solved. Motivated by this state of affairs, a number of physicists have worked together for over thirty years to develop
stochastic electrodynamics, a physical theory aimed at finding a conceptually satisfactory, realistic explanation of quantum phenomena.
This is the first book to present a comprehensive review of stochastic electrodynamics, from its origins to present-day developments. After a general introduction for the non-specialist, a critical discussion is presented of the main results of the theory as well as of the major problems encountered. A chapter on stochastic optics and some interesting consequences for local realism and the Bell inequalities is included. In the final chapters the authors propose and develop a new version of the theory that brings it in closer correspondence with quantum mechanics and sheds some light on the wave aspects of matter and the linkage with quantum electrodynamics.
Audience: The volume will be of interest to scholars and postgraduate students of theoretical and mathematical physics, foundations and philosophy of physics, and teachers of theoretical physics and quantum mechanics, electromagnetic theory, and statistical physics (stochastic processes).

I thought this book was excellent as far as these kinds of books go...I haven't read the entire thing thus far, but it has a great chapter on complementary and alternative medicine, terrific nursing alerts, nice chapter on nursing history. There's a lot here - don't drop it on your foot! These two New Orleans nurses have definitely put a lot of thought into the organization and inclusion of material into this weighty volume! Accompanying CD is nice, but I've been told by other students that the quizzes are far too simplistic compared with the ones their instructors give them. Still, this book would make a great reference for any student or nurse who needed a refresher. I think this would be an excellent first semester text!

Dr. Saaty has obtained a really great work. The Analytic Hierarchy Process is powerful in decision analysis to choose the best choices. The book describes in a detailed way all mathematic theory involved in his AHP method, demostrating that the best methods and consequently all techniques developed after method not necessary imply the most complicated theories and analysis. AHP is simple, easy to use, and its implications in the use of the state of the art inside the organizations give as result the best decision support tool: computer-aided decision-making and analysis (Expert-Choice and AliahTHINK)

This is one of the few texts that treats karman number analysis of fluid flow. Also like unit op by g.g.brown, it covers flow through porous media which BSL doesn't. Over all this text is better in application than BSL while being as rigorous.
OK for a review of the material.......2000-02-13
The focus of this book is on the mathematics of transport phenomena with little regard to applications or accessibility to students. A broad range of topics are condensed into a single book that reads like the hastily prepared lecture notes of the professors. The poor quality of the typesetting, figures and illustrations is frustrating - making the reading process painfully arduous. This is probably the last book I would turn to for information on the subjects listed in the title (most of which is better covered in the 1960's classic Transport Phenomena by Bird, et. al.).

This book was extremely dry. The subjects brought up in the book had no real applications and was only pleasing to those whose fun time is filled with boundry layer equations and diffusion of dilute gases in my butt.

This book is designed as a self-study guide for both beginners and experienced practitioner who want to learn more about Process Control.
A true road map to the world of process control. The book contains 17 step-by-step self study units. It also comes with a CD that includes a digital version of the full textbook.
I am an Industrial Practitioner of Process Control. I have been working for more than 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation, and Process Safety and Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. I have made extensive use of this book to prepare tutorial and training material for technician and operators.
If you are looking for a more in-depth treatment of process control topics, but still oriented towards practical industrial applications, you might want to consider Bela Liptak's Instruments Engineer's Handbook Volume 2 - Process Control and Optimization. I own both books and they have proven to be a very effective combination to solve day to day problems in my job.

This book only provides a slight overview on system process control, if you want a detailed how to design a PID then look else where.
