    Book Description

New advances offer flexible, low-cost fabrication methods for light-emitting materials, particularly in display technologies. As researchers continue to develop novel applications for these materials, feasible solutions for large-scale manufacturing are increasingly important. Organic Light-Emitting Materials and Devices covers all aspects of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), focusing on the unique characteristics of electroluminescent materials, device structures, and fabrication technologies. Written by internationally recognized experts across several fields, this book first explains the multilayered structure and fundamental physics that account for OLED design. The book compiles information on the synthesis, properties, and device performance of nearly 1,000 organic small molecule- and polymer-based electroluminescent materials. It also investigates practical manufacturing techniques for OLED fabrication as well as methods used for microstructural characterization, performance measurement, and defect analysis. Later chapters discuss the patent status of the currently employed organic light-emitting materials, potential applications of OLEDs, and the challenges facing future developments from both academic and industrial perspectives. Incorporating the latest research on hundreds of light-emitting organic materials, Organic Light-Emitting Materials and Devices reflects the current understanding of molecular design in the field and reveals the most stable and efficient electroluminescent materials as well as the vast potential for future applications.

      Book Description

Recently developed organic photovoltaics (OPVs) show distinct advantages over their inorganic counterparts due to their lighter weight, flexible shape, versatile materials synthesis and device fabrication schemes, and low cost in large-scale industrial production. Although many books currently exist on general concepts of PV and inorganic PV materials and devices, few are available that offer a comprehensive overview of recently fast developing organic and polymeric PV materials and devices. Organic Photovoltaics: Mechanisms, Materials, and Devices fills this gap. The book provides an international perspective on the latest research in this rapidly expanding field with contributions from top experts around the world. It presents a unified approach comprising three sections: General Overviews; Mechanisms and Modeling; and Materials and Devices. Discussions include sunlight capture, exciton diffusion and dissociation, interface properties, charge recombination and migration, and a variety of currently developing OPV materials/devices. The book also includes two forewords: one by Nobel Laureate Dr. Alan J. Heeger, and the other by Drs. Aloysius Hepp and Sheila Bailey of NASA Glenn Research Center. Organic Photovoltaics equips students, researchers, and engineers with knowledge of the mechanisms, materials, devices, and applications of OPVs necessary to develop cheaper, lighter, and cleaner renewable energy throughout the coming decades.

      Customer Reviews:

      4 out of 5 stars OPV.......2007-08-16

Because of each chapter is written by different author. It's not well-organized. However, it provides a comprehensive concept about organic solar materials, and current progress.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and well-organized.......2007-02-26

This book brought together contributions from a large number of experts in the field of organic photovoltaics. Usually, for a book of this type, contributions tend to be too specialized and disjointed with each other. However, this book manages to provide a wide and comprehensive coverage of the field in a well organized and cohesive manner that is easy to understand.

There are 3 sections in this book. Section 1 covers the history and development of solar cells, as well as a general overview of organic photovoltaics. Sections 2 describes the mechanism and modeling of organic solar cells, while section 3 provides a wide sampling of the different materials and device architectures available. It is invaluable for new reseachers in organic electronics, and useful for anyone who wants to find out more about the field.

5 out of 5 stars good overview of the field.......2007-01-03

This compilation of topics thoroughly covers many of the current research directions in the field. Both a very good reference and a primer for the field.

          Book Description

This book explains the subject of optoelectronic devices and their use in integrated optics and fiber optic systems. The approach taken is to emphasize the physics of how devices work and how they can be (and have been) used in various applications. Mathematical derivations and the development of design equations are provided where necessary to explain phenomena and engineering principles, but a strong effort has been made to not obscure important concepts with mathematical details. Illustrations and references from technical journals have been used to demonstrate the relevance of the theory to currently important topics in industry. By reading this book, scientists, engineers, students and engineering managers can obtain an overall view of the theory and the most recent technology in Integrated Optics. In this fifth edition all chapters have been revised and updated.

            Book Description

The exponential growth of the number of internet nodes has suddenly created a widespread demand for high-speed optical and electronic devices, circuits, and systems. The new optical revolution has replaced modular, general-purpose building blocks by end-to-end solutions. Greater levels of integration on a single chip enable higher performance and lower cost. The mainstream VLSI technologies such as BiCmos and CMOS continue to take over the territories thus far claimed by GaAs and InP devices. This calls for an up-to-date book describing the design of high-speed electronic circuits for optical communication using modern techniques in a low-cost CMOS process.
High-Speed CMOS Circuits for Optical Receivers covers the design of the world's first and second 10 Gb/s clock and data recovery circuits fabricated in a pure CMOS process. The second prototype meets some of the critical requirements recommended by the SONET OC-192 standard. The clock and data recovery circuits consume a power several times lower than in prototypes built in other fabrication processes.
High-Speed CMOS Circuits for Optical Receivers describes novel techniques for implementation of such high-speed, high-performance circuits in a pure CMOS process.
High-Speed CMOS Circuits for Optical Receivers is written for researchers and students interested in high-speed and mixed-mode circuit design with focus on CMOS circuit techniques. Designers working on various high-speed circuit projects for data communication, including optical com., giga bit ethernet will also find it of interest.
