Book Description
The Finite Element Method and Applications with ANSYS® provides the reader with theoretical and practical knowledge of the finite element method and with the skills required to analyze engineering problems with ANSYS®, a commercially available FEA program. This self-contained, introductory text minimizes the need for additional reference material, covering the fundamental topics in finite element methods as well as advanced topics concerning modeling and analysis with ANSYS®. These topics are introduced through extensive examples from various engineering disciplines, presented in a step-by-step fashion. The book focuses on the use of ANSYS® through both the Graphics User Interface (GUI) and the ANSYS® Parametric Design Language (APDL).
The text details more than 40 example problems, with solutions demonstrated in a step-by-step fashion, primarily through the use of GUI and, to a lesser extent, APDL.
Furthermore, it includes a CD-ROM with the "input" files for the example problems so that readers can regenerate them on their own computers, as well as the colored figures and screen shots.
Students, researchers, and practicing engineers will find this an essential reference for use in predicting and simulating the physical behavior of complex engineering systems using ANSYS®.
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as it could be..........2007-05-21
I bought this book expecting it to have a practical bent towards analysis with some theoretical backing provided as needed, but was disappointed. I prefer Bathe's book for theory, and haven't found a really good book for application to real world analysis.
Best way to learn ANSYS.......2006-01-14
This book is far superior to any other ANSYS FE book. It has something like 40 examples and the cd includes the batch input files. Other books on the subject (see Moaeveni) lack the # of example problems or batch file processing tutorials. Great for beginers and intermediate users who want to get the most out of ANSYS.

Transport Phenomena
ASIN: 1591690277 |
Book Description
This much-anticipated second edition introduces the fundamentals of the finite element method featuring clear-cut examples and an applications-oriented approach. Using the transport equation for heat transfer as the foundation for the governing equations, this new edition demonstrates the versatility of the method for a wide range of applications, including structural analysis and fluid flow.
Much attention is given to the development of the discrete set of algebraic equations, beginning with simple one-dimensional problems that can be solved by inspection, continuing to two- and three-dimensional elements, and ending with three chapters describing applications. The increased number of example problems per chapter helps build an understanding of the method to define and organize required initial and boundary condition data for specific problems. In addition to exercises that can be worked out manually, this new edition refers to user-friendly computer codes for solving one-, two-, and three-dimensional problems. Among the first FEM textbooks to include finite element software, the book contains a website with access to an even more comprehensive list of finite element software written in FEMLAB, MAPLE, MathCad, MATLAB, FORTRAN, C++, and JAVA - the most popular programming languages.
This textbook is valuable for senior level undergraduates in mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, chemical, and civil engineering. Useful for short courses and home-study learning, the book can also serve as an introduction for first-year graduate students new to finite element coursework and as a refresher for industry professionals. The book is a perfect lead-in to Intermediate Finite Element Method: Fluid Flow and Heat and Transfer Applications (Taylor & Francis, 1999, Hb 1560323094).

Book Description
In
Finite Element Analysis of Electrical Machines the author covers two-dimensional analysis, emphasizing the use of finite elements to perform the most common calculations required of machine designers and analysts. The book explains what is inside a finite element program, and how the finite element method can be used to determine the behavior of electrical machines. The material is tutorial and includes several completely worked out examples. The main illustrative examples are synchronous and induction machines. The methods described have been used successfully in the design and analysis of most types of rotating and linear machines.
Audience: A valuable reference source for academic researchers, practitioners and designers of electrical machinery.
Customer Reviews:
The only book on the subject.......2002-07-31
There are lots of books on finite element analysis. There are a good number of books on finitie element analysis for the electrical engineer. This is the only book devoted solely to the FE method for the analysis of electric machines, so it is kind of hard to say that this is the best because it is the only horse in the race. But I can confidently assert this because it answers most of the questions dealing with the area. Prof. Salon has done a very good job of putting a lot of results in a very slim volume. he has sought to answer most of the question concerning analyzing different machines and he has devoted just enough mathematics to clear up a number of important issues concerning the accuracy of the methods. Most specifically, he dealt with the air gap mesh problem very clearly and succinctly.
He also tells you how to go about calculating the inductance, the flux linkage, and the magnetic flux density from the vector potential. This is a very complete treatment of a very broad subject.
Do I think he could have done more with specific machines? Yes. I wish there were more on permanent magnet machines, I wish there were more on how to calculate iron losses, but these are subjects that are still being researched. maybe he can update the book in a few years and catch all of these topics. For now, the book is pretty darned good.

Book Description
Fuel cell systems have now reached a degree of technological maturity and appear destined to form the cornerstone of future energy technologies. But the rapid advances in fuel cell system development have left current information available only in scattered journals and Internet sites. The even faster race toward fuel cell commercialization further leaves the objectivity of many Internet articles open to question. The Fuel Cell Technology Handbook is now here to help, providing the first comprehensive treatment of both the technical and commercial aspects of high and low temperature fuel cells, fuel cell systems, fuel cell catalysis, and fuel generation. The first part of the book addresses the principles of fuel cell technology and summarizes the main concepts, developments, and remaining technical problems, particularly in fueling. The second part explores applications in automotive, stationary, and portable power generation technologies. It also provides an expert's look at future developments in both the technology and its applications. With chapters contributed by experts working in academic and industrial R&D, this handbook forms a reliable, authoritative basis for understanding fuel cell technology, applications, and commercial realities. Whether you're developing fuel cell components, designing a fuel cell system, or just interested in the viability of an application, the Fuel Cell Technology Handbook is the best place to start.

Wonderful book for researchers in structural engineering.......2000-09-09
This is a wonderful book I have ever come across in structural engineering. Professors Shames & Dym deserve all praise for the amount of hard work, they have put in it. This book covers almost all essentials required for structural engineers especially who are involved in reseach as I am, in the field of advanced solid mechanics, theory of plates and further in finite element analysis. The way calculus of variation has been discussed with the help of comprehensive examples is magnificent.I am highly influenced by this book while taking courses for theory of elasticity, theory of elastic stability, theory of plates and fininte element.
A good book on structural mechanics.......2000-08-30
I really like this book. It help me a lot in additional knowledge in structural mechanics. It gives a very good approach on the energy method as well as the calculus of variations. Although i would not recommend this book for studying about calculus of variations (not a book for beginner`s in this field). The book gives good details about beams (and other not so well known theories and approaches for solutions) and also plates. It deals with shear deformation as well as buckling. This book is recommended not only for civil engineering students but also for mechanical engineering. The book also provided basics for finite element analysis. But the approach of the discussion for the FEM should not be considered for an introductory course. All in all for what i`m looking for this book (mainly about plates) it is fairly complete. It is a very good book and very satisfying to read.
