Great reference!.......2007-09-04
I love learning new things about my dogs, and this book taught me a lot!
Superlative study of canine body language!.......2007-07-28
We rescued an abused Great Dane puppy 3-4 months ago. She had been mistreated by 2 females in her short 6 month life, so she hated women. Within a month, I had been to the local ER twice with dog bites(not puppy mouthing, but snarl/lunge/attack bites). A behaviorist recommended this book as a way to identify the triggers and expressions that would tell me that the pup's very low fear aggression threshold was about to be crossed. With knowledge from this book along with many exercises and activities, the pup, now 85 lbs. is starting to calm down. This book has probably saved her life as we had to get her volatile and frenzied behaviors under control before she gained another 50 lbs.
A must read for all dog owners. Now we feel sad about how previous pups had communicated with us, and we were too dumb to catch the messages they were sending!
This book is very helpful!.......2007-05-28
I've had dogs all my life, but haven't actually studied them until recently. I find my old interpretations of dog communication were very human-biased. This book is very illuminating on how dogs really communicate. The author communicates the subject using excellent photos and photo sequences, which is such a help! I generally find text descriptions inadequate and even videos are difficult, because the sequences go by so fast. I think sometimes the author overdoes the interpretation, but as I gain expertise I may revise that comment. This is a great book and is one of my primary references.
Very useful book.......2007-05-28
I, and everyone I've shown it to, have found this book very educational. I thought I'd just use it as a reference, looking up specific body language as needed (which is a very good use for it), but I find myself reading it cover to cover because it's so fascinating. I've had dogs all my life, and trained them and loved them, but I can't believe how ignorant I was about their body language. As I read the book I see these behaviors in my dog and wonder how I could have been so unobservant. I think even folks who know a lot about dogs and training can learn some things from this. I plan to buy more to use as gifts.
Best Book For Understanding Dog Body Language.......2007-05-28
I volunteer at a shelter and am fascinated by temperment testing. While I have the benefit of watching a wonderful temperment tester each week, reading this book has been an incredible education. Now when I watch dogs tested, I can see what our tester is seeing... the freezing, the whale eye, the stress behaviors, and so on. I'm learning to better judge how a given dog reacts to other dogs or to cats.
For me, the benefits include being better able to know how to handle the dogs because I can better judge their personalities and shape my behavior to them, know how the dogs I handle are reacting to various stimuli, and be able to tell perspective adopters more about the dogs than I previously could.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who either works with dogs or owns a dog. You can't go wrong. The photos are so clear and the writing so easily understandable, that everyone can absorb the information. Be warned though... you'll want to read this book over and over and over again until the pages are well worn. It's just THAT good!

Book Description
This book and deck provide an important key to past life recall. Each of the 28 images is a visual representation of a particular world culture that will bring into focus the times and places of previous incarnations. The symbols of the Phoenix Deck will trigger unconscious memories that will enable you to see yourself more clearly and help you develop latent talents, identify lessons that must be learned, and explain irrational fears, attractions, and impulses.
This is the first divinatory tool especially created for studying past lives to better understand the present.

My Intuition Was Completely Right!.......2007-01-25
I was drawn to these cards when I first read about them on some random website. I had to have them! After searching every bookstore in all of my neighboring cities and not finding them, I decided to make my first online purchase.
These cards are absolutely amazing! They are much more than I could've hoped for, and well worth shopping online for!
I've done readings on myself, and although they tell me what I already know, they also tell me what I know but was afraid to face. The readings validate my feelings and intuitions.
My friends that I've done readings for (totalling in the 50's) have been absolutely amazed by the accuracy of the cards I've drawn for them. I've only had two people, out of over 50 people, who have said that the reading was not right for them. To me, that is absolutely amazing!
I would recommend these cards to anyone who wants to explore their inner self and essential spirit and soul. These cards are a remarkable tool to help a person begin that journey.
The past is never really past..........2005-01-09
I don't know whether to be alarmed or amused at the reviewers who find this deck limited to one use, but it does make me wonder about their view of work with past lives. This is NOT a deck to tell you that your name was Mary Smith-Jones-Brown and that you were born in Dublin-Cairo-Edinburgh in 1835-1637-3500BCE. Past-life regression and hypnosis may help you establish these things to your satisfaction, but I would caution that even the most competent and ethical of hypnotherapists has to work very hard to avoid influencing subject recall.
This deck identifies 28 times/places/cultures with strongly resonant energy. The cards are exquisitely painted, each in a very different style. The querent looks through the deck, allowing him/herself to be drawn to the most "magnetic" of the images. A reading is comprised of the seven most strongly attractive (in the magnetic sense) cards. The author makes it very clear that this would not be the sum total of a soul's previous journeys; rather, the cards suggest which previous incarnations are the strongest influences on the querent's current life. (So, unless you , your life circumstances, issues and needs never change, repeating readings from time to time is a very useful process.) The readings may also be linked to planetary influences, which I find valuable. Shorter readings combining past life and planetary influences may be done more frequently. Once you get to know the deck, it is very simple, when confronted with a puzzling, unresolved, or "stuck" situation, to draw one (or two or three) cards, asking "What past life influences are most with me now?" I have always gained some illumination from doing this!
This is one of the strongest decks I've workied with in terms of the art and the writing being equally strong. I find the descriptions and interpretations careful and thoughful, with a wealth of detail. I appreciate the way information is presented, allowing the reader and/or querent to feel what is currently resonant -- and I have noticed that my understanding of the information grows and matures as I do. There is plenty of room for further research and learning on the querent's part. The images are particularly useful for connecting to the "feel" of a culture, and they are so beautiful that using the deck is always a wonderful experience.
I would never be able to sum up what has happened even so far in this life with one card reading once, so I can't imagine why anyone would assume the same of several past lives. This is a wonderful deck for continued use over time.
Got as a gift...It was loved by the birthday boy!!1.......2003-08-15
I got it as a birthday gift since the person in question had
demostrated interest in it.
When he opened it he was so glad to find that the cards looked far better than on the web and the book also seem to offer a good reading time.
A Divinitation Jem!.......2003-02-16
This is a wonderfull Oracle! It is so user freindly and simply delightfull! I enjoyed useing the cards better than I ever have the Tarot!. The book flows well and is very insightful. She appeals to the witch in all of us! No matter what path we choose.
This is one of the greatest oracles ever!!.......2002-01-06
This totally answers my questions about my past lives and why I am here. You can do readings on family and friends(just take it seriously). I've been into the new Age\Astrology/Occult stuff for almost 5 years. I strongly reccomend it!! You will be so satisfied

Customer Reviews:
Interesting, but not sufficent.......2006-09-13
This book is a good reference for anyone interested in refreshing basic astrology, but it is a poor choice to use as a beginner's first book. One of the books major irritations is that the author changes the positions of planets which would traditionally be considered well placed, and does not provide an explaination for why he breaks from convention. For example, Mars is not considered dignified in Scorpio in this book and Venus is well placed in Aquarius?
I found it curious that he uses his own chart as the example, which would have been fine in itself, only by the end of the book I doubted his ability to be impartial about it. In his description of Cancer he claims that it is the most misunderstood sign (not Aquarius?), but mentions nothing of the Cancerian tendency to believe that they are misunderstood when they are not. He also says almost nothing good about Scorpio (he doesn't have any placements in Scorpio himself), and spends the majority of his time on his own positions while neglecting everyone else's. Perhaps, the negative trait of his own Leo rising?
Another amusing thing about this book is that the chart he does provide as the example for the book is incorrect. In my version of this book, figure 1 has Hewitt's Mars in Scorpio conjunct Neptune in Leo which is conjunct the Leo Ascendent. Well, it does not take a mathematician to figure out that Leo can only be conjunct Cancer or Virgo, or that Scorpio cannot be the sign on the 4th house cusp if Mars is in Scorpio in the 1st. Hewitt mention numerous times about how intelligent Gemini makes people( he has a stellum himself), but seems to forget the Gemini negative trait of spreading misinformation. He writes that Taurus people are not self aware, a statement usually true, but does not notice his own lack of self-awareness.
Good Rudimentary Introduction, but..........2006-05-08
I learned a good deal of "basics" information from this book, which I suppose it what the author intended. However, there was also a good bit of information which I found lacking or not fully explained. For instance, although the author gives you a basic idea of how to determine the degree of aspect when two planets are in conjunction, he isn't particularly clear in advising how to determine aspects that spread across signs. For instance, you'd be left to thinking that you could count HOUSE PLACEMENTS rather than SIGNS to determine the degree of aspect, which is not true. Also, the "interpretations" in the last half of the book are very general and tend to become tiresome...so much so that I had to push myself to finish the book. Taken on the whole, it's still a worthy work for someone like me who's baseline knowledge was largely peripheral, but you may have to seek other sources to expound on what he does not explain.
soo basic too basic infact, even for the beginner.......2005-05-15
This book is ok, but im not too keen on the way he writes - or more precisely the way he views people. He tends to put down those who are different from him, where as other astrologers tend to focus on the difficulties you are experiancing and how to overcome them.
The interpretations are about 3 sentances long and to be honest its not really worth the money.
I brought parkers astrology which covers the same things and far more for around the same price. I recomend you look into getting this one instead - its great value and also a brilliant resourse for other basic elements of astrology. Plus - its understandable for the beginner. You could also create a birth chart free on line at astro.com and use the parkers book to interpret it. (I sent off the free birth chart voucher that W. Hewit gives you about 6 months ago and still havent recieved it)
A Must Have for ANYONE interested in Astrology.......2004-10-09
What can I say? It's the absolute best, must have book for ANYONE who has even a slight interest in Astrology. I've been an Astrology enthusiast for over 10 years now and even though my level is more in the intermediate to advanced range, I still find this as an invaluable, handy reference. It perfectly "walks" you through this fascinating, yet complex science in a simple and easy to understand format. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go beyond those fun, yet very general and vague daily horoscopes you find in the paper. It even includes a mail in offer to get your own chart done! (At least my old copy does, not sure about the new edition)
This book will help you understand and interpret your chart to give you an enlightening and informative understanding of yourself.
It includes chapters that explain and interpret the meanings of all the twelve houses, the signs and their characteristics, the planets and their rulerships, even meanings to all possible aspects of your natal placements.
I really wish I had this book when I first developed an in-depth interest in Astrology. Again, A MUST HAVE FOR ANY ASTROLOGY ENTHUSIAST!!!
Good basics book, but..........2004-07-20
I would have given this book 3 stars because I felt there were too many pages dedicated to chart construction and not enough on chart interpretation. What little interpretation he offers in this book--a sentence here, a paragraph there, specifically when interpreting his own birthchart--I believe is very good, and would have liked the author to expand on this subject.
Besides that, I feel the general descriptions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects are well intuited and researched. And I have to give the author a star back for the many useful charts he includes in the text. Overall, a user-friendly guide for beginners and a quick refresher for intermediate astrologers looking to fill the gaps in their training. My two cents.
Book Description
A comprehensive and practical guide to the ancient oracle based on the alphabet of the Druids.
• Describes the symbolism and mythology of the 20 "tree letters" and their magical correspondences.
• Includes instructions on how to make your own Ogam divination sticks, cast the oracle, and perceive omens.
• Provides historical background and bibliographic references to the Druidic mythology ruling this 1,500-year-old oracle.

The author addresses three major areas in this book: Ogamlore, the history of this 1500-year-old oracle of the Celtic Druids; Ogamfews, the meaning of the individual tree letters, their magic, characteristics, folklore, and related stories; and Ogamcasting, the practical art of Ogam divination, which includes spreads, castings, and how to create your own Ogam set. With these tools of ancient Celtic wisdom, readers will receive insights and guidance on how to maneuver through life's questions and challenges.
Customer Reviews:
TREES!!!.......2007-09-11
I am learning ogham and one of the most important things that ogham offers is a path to communing with the trees. This is a fantastic book and I encourage people to use it for the purposes of communing with the wisdom that the trees can teach us.
Very good and well researched.......2006-09-30
This is the most accessible and available of the few ogham (or ogam) books out there. It is luckily very good and well researched. Working through this book will put you on the path of mastery of this tool. It includes in depth interpretations and a number of useful spreads.
Absolutely Excellent Intro to Ogam!.......2006-09-01
I went into this book knowing very little about the Ogam alphabet- just some simple associations with each letter from other books I've read that mentioned it in passing. But the Pgam is explored thoroughly and in-depth in this book- it definitely inspired me to start making my own set and using it as a divination tool! The books begins with a section explaining some of the history and mythology of the Ogam alphabet, citing a variety of sources for the best coverage. The author then goes on to describe each few, which is the best part! The fews are described in terms of word ogams, mythology, botany of the associated tree, and more. The last section directs you into a practical use of the wealth of knowledge the author provided. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in the Ogam, beginner or experienced! Great read!
A well rounded complete look at Ogam.......2003-01-05
I give this book 5 stars because in my mind it is the most well rounded book on Ogam and Ogam divination available today.
Mr. Mountfort puts forth a scholarly study of Ogam including history of, his interpretation of, making of, and casting of Ogams.
What struck me the most about this book was his painstaking effort to link for us the individual meanings to thier corresponding myths. Along with this he also at no time gets bogged down in the dogma of right and wrong when it comes to interpretations and makes it clear that the study of Ogam is an ongoing evolution and today's reality may very likely change as time progresses. What is important is that IT WORKS!
Lastly, he takes us through the recent revival of Ogam and gives us his views on modern publications pertaining to Ogam.
All in all, an interesting informative read.

A great book to read.......2003-01-11
You'll want this book to help you with your dreams. Not a waste of Money! Also: The Discovery of Dreams A-Z
What answers is your mind showing you?.......2002-05-03
Many dream dictionaries simply list words and their meanings. The symbols are obtuse because our mind is revealing information to us, but hiding it at the same time. Pamela Bell has methods for managing dreams, starting with KISS, or Keep It Simple, Stupid. It is not that anyone is stupid, but we over complicate, over interpret, over analyze what symbols may mean, and we lose the simplicity of the message.
The book is divided into sections, and long before you come to the interpretations of dream symbols, if you read the book sequentially, you will have a background that you can apply, and learn how to guide your dreams. The following is a short synopsis of each segment.
Introduction: "Dreams thus perform at least two functions, and interestingly these activities are relevant to the attributes of the two separate halves of the brain." (Bell) Every day our conscious minds are bombarded with images and thoughts, noises, colors, aromas, then, at night, when the conscious mind eases control, we review and interpret, and frequently solve problems; sometimes waking up to know the answer to complicated problems, or whatever may have been perplexing.
The Dream Interpreters: The most famous dream interpreter, in my opinion, is Joseph, the eleventh son of Jacob and firstborn of Rachel. He was sold into slavery, yet he was the one who interpreted the Pharaoh's dreams of the feast and famine years that would come upon the land. Bell follows the history of a few dream interpreters to show the changes from parlor games to therapy. She includes a short list of archetypal symbols.
Sleeping and Dreaming: "Sleep is a way of turning away from the external stimuli by which we are bombarded daily to an inner landscape which permits regeneration and rejuvenation." (Bell) I am an insomniac, so I frequently miss this part of the dream. She covers this disorder and many others, and gives tips to sleep better, including a list of herbs that may help.
Dream Interpretation: "Just as a child learns that certain words represent certain object, the dreamer begins to understand his or her own dream language." (Bell) This is the reason that there are many dream dictionaries, and why we do not necessarily know what we are telling ourselves.
How to be a Creative Dreamer: The common term is lucid dreaming, and it is where you control your dream. Once, when a knife wielding threat was attacking me, I woke myself up by saying, "This is a nightmare!" To analyze your dream you must experience yourself as the things and people within. In that dream, I was telling me what I already knew, but had not really faced. This chapter is rich with information and suggestions, including several guided dreams.
Dream Dictionary: These are the nuggets that we use to try to interpret the dream. This section is divided into elements: (1) Animals, (2) Environments in Dreams, (3) Journey, and (4) People. Then Bell provides an alphabetical listing of various words. Unlike many other books, she does not say, for example: Butterfly is one's own transformation, but that the butterfly represents freedom, although it can also "indicate a lack of ability to settle down or to take a protracted task." The interpretation is up to you, and it is therefore based on your current situation.
Dream Workbook: "The following pages are for the reader's personal use. They suggest various methods which can be used in your own journals, and for your own private interpretations." (Bell) Nearly every book about understanding dreams suggests a dream journal; it is the flow of life.
This is an excellent addition to my dream dictionary collection. One of the things I have learned about dreams and messages is this: If I do not get it the first time, my mind will send the dream again, but simpler. Five stars.

Mundane.... keep lookin.......2002-01-09
This book is terrible. It has all the common conventions of a Dream dictionary book. I would have to say that out of all the mundane, garden-variety dream books out there, this one rates in the top 5...
Extensive Lists Included.......2001-10-02
Extensive lists of meanings behind different items seen in dreams, as well as situations and accounts of specific dreams. One of the best lists in dream interpretation.
The Perfect Dream Book.......2001-04-10
This book offers an exceptional guide for remembering, interpreting and controlling your dreams. The dictionary is very comprehensive. A great book! I purchased two for gifts and one for myself!
Book Description
In this comprehensive and immensely practical book, Nicholas Campion, well known for his internationally acclaimed astrological columns, applies his wealth of experience and substantial expertise as a teacher to the calculation and interpretation of birth charts. In straightforward language, he explains the predictive techniques and methods used for comparing two charts.
The Ultimate Astrologer will teach you to become your own astrologer and work out horoscopes for your family, friends, and colleagues. However, the fascinating information in this book extends way beyond the study of birth charts; it includes both Eastern and Western systems of astrology, as well as the application of astrology to: the answering of specific questions (horary astrology); the selection of auspicious moments to begin new enterprises; health, healing, love, and relationships; and gardening, agriculture, business, and finance.
Customer Reviews:
Title well deserved..........2003-06-22
"A simple guide to calculating and interpreting birth charts for effective application in daily life", is what is says on the cover of this book. I found that this statement, in my opinion, is true.
Nicholas Campion is a well-respected astrologer who has written several other astrology titles - Mundane Astrology: the astrology of nations and organisations (with Michael Baigent and Charles Harvey), The Book of World Horoscopes, The New Astrology: the art and science of the stars (with Steve Eddy), and Zodiac: enhance your life through astrology. He is also an award winning, internationally authority on astrology as well as past President of the Astrological Association of Great Britain and the Astrological Lodge of London.
The Ultimate Astrologer is divided into 17 Chapters covering everything from the planets to becoming a professional astrologer. Also included are the necessary tables for calculating a birth chart so that you don't need to go and buy extra books if you want to have a go at working out your own birth chart. The tables provided are aimed for the reader in the UK and USA and include the tables of houses, ephemeris (from 1960 - 2010) and daylight savings times.
From the beginner to the more experienced astrologer, this title has something to offer readers with a wide variety of knowledge. The chapters start off with the basics, such as the meaning of the planets, zodiac signs and houses. There is a comprehensive chapter devoted to calculating a birth chart as well.
For the more experienced reader there are several chapters introducing prediction, relationship charts, horary, electional and financial astrology as well as several other branches of specialised topics that come under astrology
Overall, this is a worthwhile investment for the student of astrology that includes nearly everything you need to draw up a birth chart. While you are exploring astrology this is a perfect book because it will save you from having to buy an ephemeris, book of tables and daylight savings book - in a sense The Ultimate Astrologer pays for itself. That in itself is an achievement! I would recommend this title for the beginner/intermediate astrology student.
Book Description
A comprehensive and practical guide to the ancient oracle based on the runic alphabet of the Norse
• Reveals the symbolism and divinatory significance of the 24 rune "staves"
• Provides clear instructions on how to craft your own rune stones
• Explains the role of runes in the Norse wisdom tradition and its influence on such works as Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
Nordic runes are a potent and profoundly transformative magic system that gives contemporary readers access to the ancient wisdom tradition of Northern European cultures. The runes have deep resonances within the pagan Norse world of gods and goddesses, giants, dwarves, warriors, and wizards, which have greatly influenced the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, among others. Norse tradition attributes the discovery of the runes to the "All-Father" Odin--a god of inspiration and secret wisdom and the mythical prototype for runecasters, who established the pattern for gaining his knowledge.
Nordic Runes addresses three major areas: Runelore, the history of this 2000-year-old Norse oracle; Runestaves, the meaning of the individual runes of the Elder Futhark alphabet and their powerful mythological, magical, and practical lessons for daily life; and Runecasting, a comprehensive guide to the oracular application of the ancient runes, including their crafting, divination, and self-development. As Nordic Runes shows, the runes do more than simply reflect the path of fate; they help develop and enhance intuition. By learning to cast and interpret the runes, the user becomes receptive to the energy currents in material reality and empowered in the arts of its transformation.
Customer Reviews:
Nordic Runes.......2007-02-13
This is a very adequate book for people new to the runes, and in fact, I would even recommend it for those who have limited experience. The author gives solid, traditional descriptions of the runes and does a good job of explaining where he derives his meaning from by presenting the rune poems and applicable lore. In that regard, it is an excellent teaching tool for anyone who wants to delve into the primary sources.
The problem that I have with this book is that the author breaks no new ground whatsoever, aside from a few spreads he explains in the final section. Thus, for those with even a little experience, everything you'll find should be old hat. As a previous reviewer stated, reversed runes are explained very poorly.
A good beginners book on rune reading.......2003-07-01
The Author has established a niche for his trilogy on divination techniques from the ancient Celts, Norse, and western Europeans and he has kept within that niche with this book. It does not provide an elaborate discussion of the history of the runes and the different systems in use. He takes the Elder Futhark, using dagaz and othila as the twenty-third and twenty-fourth runes, respectively and provides the pronunciation guides, poetry, lore, and more needed to develop an understanding of each of the individual runes. I have a fair-sized collection of rune reading books but the spreads and casting techniques provided in "Nordic Runes" were new to me.
Two problems: (1) reversed runes are not well explained initially, however, the Author clarifies them in the spreads and casting section; (2) the Author denies any significance to the aettir - i.e. he believes that their order does not have any hidden meaning.
For folks new to rune work, the final chapter provides an overview of the major books and authors from the past 20 years.
"Nordic Runes" is a good platform for further runic studies for folks drawn to this kind of work.

Who's the idiot?.......2006-02-17
You don't have to be much above an idiot to see the bias contained in the book, which is inappropriate for a subject as abstract as dreaming. I was looking for a book on the basics; not a book on subtly disguised polemics, couched in terms and examples that are stringently politically correct. Enough already with marketing Jimmy Carter as a sympathetic, capable hero-type! This work had more the flavor of a feminiest manifesto than a fundamental treatise on the subconscious.
Informative but not very deep.......2001-07-12
This book explains many points of view on interpreting dreams, but only gives the big picture, not getting into too much detail. It's a great introduction to the subject, but not for use afterward on a daily basis. Also disappointing, it does not contain a dictionary of symbols and/or typical sightings in dreams. I guess they expect you to buy one. In that case, it should not be called "Complete" ... there are many more books I'd rather have on hand for reference.
Really Fun Read!.......2000-04-18
I've read a lot on dreams. This book is by far the most comprehensive and easy to read. It's not goofy or too wedded to any one way of looking at dreams. The writing is really lively and humerous. And there is a lot of well-researched information, especially on the science of sleep. I'd say: buy this one!
A really good and fun, soup to nuts look at dreams!.......1999-01-26
This book is well researched, fun to read and knowledgeable about the world of dreams from past to present. I especially liked the sections on "Dreaming Through The Life Span" and the section on what my dream symbols MAY mean.
This is the only book you need to get to learn about dreaming!

GREAT BOOK - Paul Wade makes astrology easy and FUN!.......2007-05-27
I discovered Paul Wade's info packed website as I Googled around one rainy day. I literally was glued to my computer screen for hours as I read every single word he had written. Paul made a lot of the concepts I had struggled to wrap my 50 year old brain around make SENSE! I had so many AHA moments while readin g his website and then his book, I felt like one big AHA.
This book is an AMAZING find for any newbie (or even seasoned astrologer). Some of the little things that had never made sense just fell into place as I read Paul's book. Well laid out, fun to read, it is a TREASURE.
If you are ready to REALLY learn astrology, in TODAY'S WORLD, buy this book and learn astrology for THIS century.

Frustrated.......2006-08-19
I am a beginner in Astrology and was very interested in the topic but am dissappointed that you need several other books to create your chart. The format of the book also does not lend itself to photocopying the charts in the book as you work your way thru the chapters. I would recommend to the author that he add a link to a web site where the reader could print the templates for completing the charts for each chapter. Examples in the book of how to actually read the sources cited would also have been helpful.
