Book Description
We've all heard the reportsthe great housing boom that has fueled premium prices and sellers' dreams is slowing down. The real estate market may experience ups and downs like any other, but it's not likely to implode spontaneously. With proper planning and a little knowledge, homeowners, investors, and other stakeholders can avoid disaster and in fact profit on their properties regardless of what the market does. Beyond the Bubble takes a balanced look at what drives changes in real estate markets and how these changes affect property owners and investors. Readers will learn:
* the history, nature, and dynamics of market `bubbles'
* how to anticipate a coming downturn and act accordingly
* the regional nature of real estate market conditions
* differences and similarities in residential and commercial markets
* other profit strategies when selling is difficult or impossible
* how to analyze the market using facts, not hype
Thorough and well-reasoned, Beyond the Bubble will help property owners maintain a strong and level foundation for their financial futures.

Learn How to Handle Real Estate Bubbles.......2007-08-14
The authors examine the components of real estate bubbles and provide useful guidance in detecting changing conditions to determine when a bubble is present. The book provides readers with a roadmap to become aware of the key factors affecting real estate prices and learn how to predict real estate price increases and decreases.
According to the authors, there is neither a single real estate market in the United States, nor a single bubble due to regional differences. Certain markets will remain hot because of the location, climate, jobs, etc., while other cities may experience declines due to excess speculation and price increases (for example, Florida and California).
The five phases of a bubble and the history of bubbles are described so that readers can understand what to look for. The four signs to recognize that a real estate market is about to change are fleshed out. They include: activity of development and inventory available, speculation increasing near the top, market statistics turn negative, and lending statistics become ominous. The authors also describe bubbles by property type (residential, retail and commercial). Moreover, the ten key factors to consider when making an objective decision about a real estate purchase that you are interested in is covered in detail.
Other topics covered in the book are how to use real estate in your investment portfolio, using options on real estate, how to profit in rising or falling real estate markets, and limited partnerships, REITS, ETF and REITs
Anyone considering buying a house, especially in an inflated market should read this book before making a move. Knowledge is power, especially in real estate negotiations.

Book Description
A practical, down-to-earth guide for rightsizing: the buzzword for streamlining your possessions and making time for the things that matter most in middle age. Millions of midlife Americans are starting to reevaluate their surroundings as their kids begin to leave the nest and they themselves start to think about retirement. Whether theyre going from the multi-bedroom suburban house to a condo in the city, or downsizing from two homes to one, or making room for grandchildren to visit or an elderly relative to join the family, the trend for people in their 50s and beyond is a shift to well-planned living quarters that suit their age, stage, and situation. And in making this transition, theyll face the daunting task of paring down a lifetime of possessions while furnishing their new lives with things that have meaning. This simplification of surroundings and stuffcalled rightsizingwill liberate people in midlife to pursue their passions and hobbies without the responsibilities of a big house weighing them down. RIGHTSIZING YOUR LIFE will be the first comprehensive, practical guide to this winnowing process, providing a six-step plan to get startedas well as tips on how to deal with the emotional factors (an attachment to your possessions, nostalgic mates, reluctant kids) that can stall the process and sabotage sensible decisionmaking.
Customer Reviews:
WELL WRITTEN BUT NOT THE BOOK FOR ME.......2007-06-15
I got this book because it was highly recommended. It is a good book if you are 55 years old or older and ready to move out of your house, contemplating retiring or have had a major change in your life. The book is well written and gives good examples throughout it. The author writes about how to go about making a decision about where to move when you are contemplating retiring and when your kids move out. She also explains how to get rid of items in your house that you don't need or use any more.
I am in my mid forties and like to think about my future, but I do not think this book is the right book for me now. I am still working and have kids in school. Once I have an empty nest I might go back to this book for information since it has a lot of valuable information and I do recommend it, but not for someone my age yet.
Timely information for Boomers and beyond.......2007-06-09
Whether members of the Sandwich Generation or in the midst of a family in flux, our cohort is facing major transitions - often emotionally charged with the responsibility of letting go. Ciji Ware fills a gap in the literature by providing a practical guide to this often difficult process.
It is obvious that she has done her homework. Although some readers may not identify with the lives of the people Ciji interviews, she tackles universal themes that relate to all of us. The pop-out boxes - complete with principles, top ten reasons, tips and timetables - help the reader focus on the specifics of what needs to be done. And, for the purpose of moving forward, the resource directory at the end of the book is invaluable. Through research, interviews and her own personal experience, we get a clear picture of situations that may very well include our own changing priorities, the potential obstacles and the freedoms that action can bring.
Ciji engages her readers through storytelling, yet cautions them to concentrate on what's personally important as they find their way toward creating change. This book affords us all the opportunity to clear the way, both physically and psychologically, to explore our passions and choices in the next chapter of our lives. As Ciji says at one point in her book, give yourself the gift of dreaming.
The book speaks to me.......2007-06-08
My husband and I have talked about what we need to do to get organized but this book really set goals for us. We also have been trying to decide about if we want to move into a smaller house now that the kids are grown and it clarified this for us. This book really was needed and it seemed like the author was speaking to me and really understood our concerns and had answers for us.
lots to think about.......2007-05-26
This is a small book with a lot of information and suggestions on how to find the right balance for you where you are today. And, as the author states, sometimes a person or couple does not need a smaller house - perhaps they need a larger home, or one laid out for their lives today, not their lives twenty years ago. She also shows, with many examples, how to keep on top of what is in your home, discarding items no longer useful to one's present life and circumstances. In addition, she leads the reader to the realization that many times "stuff" in our lives is really representing something else - maybe we do not want to give away a cabinet, for example, because it was "mom's" - we have to understand we can have the memory, which does not take up space, yet we can learn to let go of the actual object. Or we keep something no longer useful because it makes us remember a dream we do not wish to relinquish. Understanding why we hold on to things is crucial for learning to let go and no longer be weighed down by them. In the process, we can lighten not just the load in our homes, but in our spirits. Anyone who is not already an actual monk in a monastery can learn something about themselves and their all-too-human tendencies to acquire more "stuff" and then learn to deal with what they find out! This book should be given to anyone just starting out on their first home or apartment - it is a lot easier to start out life knowing what to keep and what to shed, rather than wait until 50 or more years of living has piled on the possessions. I recommend this book highly.
I Wish I'd Had This Book a Few Yers Ago.......2007-04-05
Being a bit ahead of teh baby boomers I went through this process a few years ago.
At the beginning of the process I had: a big suburban house and a wife; a car and a truck; a boy and a girl; a dog and a cat. Then the pets died, the children moved on to their own lives, wife wanted a divorce and the car. Sold the big house. Got rid of an incredible amount of junk, but still have more stuff than I need. Bought a quite small house one quarter the size.
I wish I had had this guide at the time. Although I did most of what she says, it took me a lot of thinking to do what she's already thought about. And she pointed out that there were a few things that I wish I'd done differently. The real key is exactly as she says is 'keeping what matters most,' and if I had had her advice, I'd have kept a few other things, gotten rid of some of the things I kept.
Well thought out, and worth the small cost.

Pretty Pictures.......2007-01-17
This book has lots and lots of pretty pictures of fences that are not explained or detailed. There is decent information about rock walls, but otherwise this book really lacks in the substance needed to build fences.
Excellent purchase - highly recomended.......2007-01-16
The author (Jeff Beneke) has a nice way of explaining options in a approachable and casual manner making the project of designing/building a fence and/or gate much more fun. This book is very complete in it's review of latches, hinges, fence options for consideration along with beatiful photography and sketchs to illustrate ideas or concepts.
Even the guys at our local fence supply company where we bought our materials were impressed with this book when I used it to reference a particular piece of hardware.
Review from someone who's not known as a handyman.......2006-07-05
I bought this book to build a 6' privacy fence. I didn't know the first thing about building a fence but this book takes you by the hand and walks you through each step. The author does a great job of keeping things simple for the reader/beginner and includes illustrations and photos to help you envision the process. I keep referring back to sections of this book as I continure to build. Highly reccomend this book to all beginners.
Fences: In thought, word, and deed........2005-09-21
"The Fence Bible: ..." by Jeff Beneke is an excellent, comprehensive guide. The title says it all, and the author delivers. Whether you want to build your own fence, or contract the project out this book can help you get it done right.
Fully lives up to its name.......2005-04-06

Book Description
Volume D is concerned with the influence of symmetry on the physical and tensor properties of crystals and on their structural phase transitions. This role is very important in many different disciplines of the science of materials, such as crystallography, elasticity, solid-state physics, magnetism, optics, ferroelectricity and mineralogy, and Volume D deals with all these aspects in a unified way. The book is accompanied by a CD containing two pieces of software, one which supports Chapters 1.1 and 1.2 for the determination of irreducible group representations and tensor components, and one which supports Part 3 on structural phase transitions. Part 1 introduces the mathematical properties of tensors and group representations and gives their independent components for each of the crystallographic groups. The software included in the accompanying CD enables one to determine the irreducible representations of finite point groups in three dimensions (the 32 crystallographic groups and the groups of quasicrystalline phases) and the independent components of a tensor of any rank for each of these groups. As examples, several tensor properties of crystals are described: elastic properties, thermal expansion, magnetic properties, linear and nonlinear optical properties, transport properties and atomic displacement parameters, of special interest to crystallographers. A separate chapter is devoted to the particular case of tensors in quasiperiodic structures. Part 2 is devoted to the symmetry aspects of excitations in reciprocal space: phonons, electrons, Raman scattering and Brillouin scattering. Part 3 deals with the symmetry aspects of structural phase transitions and twinning. A prominent feature is the joint description of twinning and domain structures, which are usually presented in completely separate ways in handbooks of physics and mineralogy. The theory of structural phase transitions relates the symmetry characteristics of the transitions to their physical characteristics. The application of the symmetry principles that derive from this theory is illustrated by the tables contained in the accompanying CD. The CD also contains tables of tensor properties at any group-subgroup phase transition. Volume D was recently reviewed by M. Moore (Crystallography News, No. 90, September 2004, pp. 11-12).

Book Description
This book presents a highly integrated, step-by-step approach to the design and construction of low-temperature measurement apparatus. It is effectively two books in one: A textbook on cryostat design techniques and an appendix data handbook that provides materials-property data for carrying out that design. The main text encompasses a wide range of information, written for specialists, without leaving beginning students behind. After summarizing cooling methods, Part I provides core information in an accessible style on techniques for cryostat design and fabrication - including heat-transfer design, selection of materials, construction, wiring, and thermometry, accompanied by many graphs, data, and clear examples. Part II gives a practical user's perspective of sample mounting techniques and contact technology. Part III applies the information from Parts I and II to the measurement and analysis of superconductor critical currents, including in-depth measurement techniques and the latest developments in data analysis and scaling theory. The appendix is a ready reference handbook for cryostat design, encompassing seventy tables compiled from the contributions of experts and over fifty years of literature.
Book Description
The book presents a detailed description of high-resolution x-ray scattering methods suitable for the investigation of the real structure of single-crystalline layers and multilayers, including structure defects in the layers and at the interfaces. Particular attention is devoted to lateral structures in semiconductors and semiconductor multilayers such as quantum wires and quantum dots. Both the theoretical background and the application of the methods are discussed. The second edition is extended to deal with lateral surface nanostructures such as gratings and dots, new examples for measuring layer thickness, lattice mismatch, and surface/interface roughness. The book will be an invaluable source for graduates and scientists.

Book Description
After a brief introduction into crystal plasticity, the fun- damentals of crystallographic textures and plastic anisotro- py, a main topic of this book, are outlined. A large chapter is devoted to formability testing both for bulk metal and sheet metal forming. For the first time testing methods for plastic anisotropy of round bars and tubes are included. A profound survey is given of literature about yield criteria for anisotropic materials up to most recent developments and the calculation of forming limits of anisotropic sheet me- tal. Other chapters are concerned with properties of workpieces after metal forming as well as the fundamentals of the theory of plasticity and finite element simulation of metal forming processes. The book is completed by a collection of tables of international standards for formability testing and of flow curves of metals which are most commonly used in metal forming. It is addressed both to university and industrial readers.
