This text is perfect for the reader who can read graphs and diagrams. A picture is worth a thousand words and so are graphs and diagrams. This text is chock full of graphs with all the information that you may need for an undergraduate or graduate course. I love this book. Its an excellent reference.

It's an oldie,but a goodie! It's still useful ,relevant and dependable.For readers who want the kindergarten pictorial paperback,here you will be greatly disappointed. It does have clear schematical drawings and diagrams,in no-nonsense black and white.The formulas and equations are plentiful and helpful.It's just the best handbook on all aspects and applications for workplace industrial refrigeration operations.I have not found another ,in this particular area,that is on par or better than this one.

I enjoyed reading this book as a more intermediate industrial Mechanic, but for that price I expected a book with glossy pictures. I feel the book was over priced for a bunch of pages with drawings. Just a few black and white pics of equipment, and lots of complicated other stuff. The best pic was the cover. To really teach somebody this field you need to be a lot more visual.
I wouldn't recommend this book to a beginner. It would be a bit frustrating. But for someone who just wants a reference book with lots of useful information I think this book is for you.

I have covered this book in length-no other book or handbook comes close in terms of simplicity of it's explaination. The latest ASHRAE Refrigeration Handbook is a good reference to have when using this book as there are cross references.Value for money and looking forward to the next book that would be specific on Ammonia Refrigeration Systems design.

Excellent resource for MEP, plumbing and piping engineers. Provides thorough descriptions of pressure losses, treatments, correct valve uses and lots more. This book, when coupled with a CAD pipe library (such as Hercule Design's ANSI one), has all a designer needs. The inclusion of metric formulae is also most welcome.

All the basic information on pumps, compressors, piping, plumbing, and any kind of specialty equipment used for any facility you could imagine.
There is everything from piping connection and configuration of an underground gasoline tank to details on the design of animal laboratories. The book is full of charts and solid recommendations on materials and methods.
Even if you think you know a chapter's subject extremely well, this book will have new and useful information that will extend your knowledge considerably.
If you do mechanical/piping design for commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities this book is an incredible buy.
Facility Piping Systems Handbook by Michael Frankel.......2000-08-10
This is one of the finest books about facilities systems I have ever found. It's rather banal title is misleading, because this book covers every aspect of the very complicated piping systems that serve institutional, industrial and even residential buildings. To give you an example, the chapter on compressed gas systems explains the working mechanisms of 10 types of compressor motors, and then goes on to explain silencers, aftercoolers, filters (and how to select filters) air dryers (with explanations and diagrams of the verious types), lubricators, air compressor drives, pressure regulation, cooling water, hose and fittings. Then in the same chapter it explains specialized features of compressed gas for light industrial uses, laboratories, and hospitals. And this is just one chapter. There are another 18 chapters with similar levels of detail and comprehensiveness, including vacuum systems, site utilities, general plumbing, waste, even animal care facility systems. This is a terrific book.

This book gives the first thorough account of the theory of electronic transport in such mesoscopic systems. Beginning with coverage of fundamental concepts, the book presents a detailed account of transmission function formalism which is used to describe three key topics in mesoscopic physics: the quantum Hall effect, localization, and double-barrier tunneling. Other sections include a discussion of optical analogies to mesoscopic phenomena, followed by a concluding description of the non-equilibrium Green's function formalism and its relation to the transmission formalism. A few words to just sum it up, SUPER DATTA. The electro-moelecur analysis presented by author Super Datta is an incredible interpretation in defining the forier series. Euler's Identity is not only sexy, but intellectually stimulating. My boyfriend Michael and I a few weekends ago in Key West Florida had the opportunity to visit with Super Datta. While sipping tasty tropical beverages and listening to KC and the Sunshine band, we contemplated for hours over quantum mechanical models. This is simply the beginning of the decaying power sears.

The book primarily describes the so-called transmission formalism which is applied to electron transport in mesoscopic systems. Yet the main strength of the book is its introduction of the powerful, yet easy to implement numerically, apparatus of single-particle Green's functions. A device engineer armed with the knowledge of this apparatus and a copy of MatLab should be able to accurately model conductance and charge distribution in devices on the scale of tens of nanometers. Indeed, the book illustrates the application of the apparatus to transmission calculations in devices such as resonant tunneling diodes and single-electron transistors. The book provides much more than calculation recipes; the roots and physical relevance of the transmission formalism are well explained by examples such as the quantum Hall effect and conductance fluctuations. The text should be a great aid to future nanoelectronic device engineers.

I found this book to be well written, informative and well organized. The book seems to stand alone as a practical concise reference. There was a well developed theoretical section and several practical design sections.
Since there are many more engineering studies performed than actual slurry projects, I would have liked to see more practical examples developed on line sizing and project costing.
An update to the book should include some of the many engineering references available on the internet......

This text provides a uniform and consistent approach to diversified problems encountered in the study of dynamical processes in condensed phase molecular systems. Given the broad interdisciplinary aspect of this subject, the book focuses on three themes: coverage of needed background material, in-depth introduction of methodologies, and analysis of several key applications. The uniform approach and common language used in all discussions help to develop general understanding and insight on condensed phases chemical dynamics. The applications discussed are among the most fundamental processes that underlie physical, chemical and biological phenomena in complex systems. The first part of the book starts with a general review of basic mathematical and physical methods (Chapter 1) and a few introductory chapters on quantum dynamics (Chapter 2), interaction of radiation and matter (Chapter 3) and basic properties of solids (chapter 4) and liquids (Chapter 5). In the second part the text embarks on a broad coverage of the main methodological approaches. The central role of classical and quantum time correlation functions is emphasized in Chapter 6. The presentation of dynamical phenomena in complex systems as stochastic processes is discussed in Chapters 7 and 8. The basic theory of quantum relaxation phenomena is developed in Chapter 9, and carried on in Chapter 10 which introduces the density operator, its quantum evolution in Liouville space, and the concept of reduced equation of motions. The methodological part concludes with a discussion of linear response theory in Chapter 11, and of the spin-boson model in chapter 12. The third part of the book applies the methodologies introduced earlier to several fundamental processes that underlie much of the dynamical behaviour of condensed phase molecular systems. I am a Grad starting some reaserch in ET field. This book saved me a lot from struggling to understanding basic conceptions, assumptions, models, and theories. It is written so decently and much easier to be understood compared with those original papers.
A tour de force!.......2006-08-30
When I was asked by JACS to write a review of this book, I expected a good concise overview of Prof. Nitzan's many contributions to the field of quantum chemical dynamics. When I received a >700 page text I knew I had my work as a reviewer cut out for me. This book is a milestone in the field. It lays out the foundations of quantum condensed phase dynamics: quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, liquid theory, condensed matter theory, stochastic processes, and spectroscopy, and then builds upon these to present a clear and precise picture of how chemical physicists
and physical chemists view chemical reactions. Most of the results and ideas are from the recent literature--many from Prof. Nitzan's own work over the past 30 odd years. What I really like is the crystal clear pedagogy and development of the topics presented. I am sure that this will be one of the first books I'll turn in doing my own research.
This is really a very specialized book aimed at researchers and graduate students in physical chemistry and chemical physics. However, I think that the presentation is general enough that it will have broader appeal to other areas of physics.
While aimed a a theoretical audience, this will have appeal for experimental researchers. I highly recommend this as a text for an advanced graduate course or as a convenient reference text for researchers in all areas of chemical dynamics.

I thought that this was an excellent book. It provided lots of the practical kind of details that I was looking for. This book is great for someone who has either limited or no experience in HPLC. It would also work as a refresher, for someone who has been out of the field for some time.
