Equations are not so good from mathematical viewpoint.......2005-08-05
Although there's a lot of information, the equations could be physically correct, in SI system. Right now there are many strange numbers and conversion included, i.e. 4.44 or 10 etc. which make the practical calculations simple, but hides the underlaying physical principles.
Magnetic Core Selection for Transformers and Inductors.......2000-07-19
This book is a must have for anyone serious on the subject. It's the most comprehensive source of information I have ever come across; pays for itself in time saved searching for data, examples are of great practical value and the material is current. EE background recommended.

Magnetic Core Selection for Transformers and Inductors (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
ASIN: 0387281517 |
Book Description
For the past seventy years, ferrites (magnetic ceramics) have been prized for a range of properties that has no equivalent in the existing metal magnetic materials. They have contributed to many important advances in electronics and new high-performance products are appearing all the time. Ferrite technology has produced greater progress in the past 15 years since the first edition was published. Many of the semiconductor and IC technology responsible for the computer and Internet explosion would not have been possible without the magnetic materials technology needed for powering and otherwise exploiting those developments. Modern Ferrite Technology, 2nd ed, offers the readers an expert overview of the latest ferrite advances as well as their applications in electronic components. This volume develops the interplay among material properties, component specification and device requirements using ferrites. Throughout, emphasis is placed on practical technological concerns as opposed to mathematical and physical aspects of the subject. The book traces the origin of the magnetic effect in ferrites from the level of the simplest particle and the increases the scope to the larger and larger hierarchies. From the desired magnetic properties the author deduces the physical and chemical material parameters, taking into consideration major chemistry, impurity levels, ceramic microstructures and grain boundary effects. He then discusses the processing conditions and associated conditions required for implementation. In addition to conventional ceramic techniques, he describes non-conventional methods such as coprecipitation, co-spray roasting and single crystal growth. The second section of this book deals with a complete listing of the many important applications in the field including ferrites for permanent magnet, telecommunications, power supplies, memory systems magnetic recording and microwave applications. The function of ferrites in each of these applications is described. The requirements of the electronic circuit and device are broken down into the individual component specifications with regard to size and configuration. Design criteria for power level, degree of stability and cost are then considered.

Book Description
Electromagnetic metamaterials-from fundamental physics to advanced engineering applications
This book presents an original generalized transmission line approach associated with non-resonant structures that exhibit larger bandwidths, lower loss, and higher design flexibility. It is based on the novel concept of composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line metamaterials (MMs), which has led to the development of novel guided-wave, radiated-wave, and refracted-wave devices and structures.
The authors introduced this powerful new concept and are therefore able to offer readers deep insight into the fundamental physics needed to fully grasp the technology. Moreover, they provide a host of practical engineering applications.
The book begins with an introductory chapter that places resonant type and transmission line metamaterials in historical perspective. The next six chapters give readers a solid foundation in the fundamentals and practical applications:
* Fundamentals of LH MMs describes the fundamental physics and exotic properties of left-handed metamaterials
* TL Theory of MMs establishes the foundations of CRLH structures in three progressive steps: ideal transmission line, LC network, and real distributed structure
* Two-Dimensional MMs develops both a transmission matrix method and a transmission line method to address the problem of finite-size 2D metamaterials excited by arbitrary sources
* Guided-Wave Applications and Radiated-Wave Applications present a number of groundbreaking applications developed by the authors
* The Future of MMs sets forth an expert view on future challenges and prospects
This engineering approach to metamaterials paves the way for a new generation of microwave and photonic devices and structures. It is recommended for electrical engineers, as well as physicists and optical engineers, with an interest in practical negative refractive index structures and materials.
Download Description
Transmission Line Approach and Microwave Applications of Metamaterials fills an important niche, connecting the more theoretical nature of negative index materials to the practical and covers all of the important topics relevant to a very complete description of the transmission line model of negative index materials. It also includes outgrowth applications developed by the authors during their research.

first class collection.......2006-03-05
This is a collection of reprints of famous magazine and journal articles about passive devices used in RF designs that are hard to find. It is arranged in sections with a summary preceding the reprints.
The classic papers vary in clearness. The ones from trade magazines are short on theory but very practical for designers. The ones from scientific journals are very compactly written and may be hard to follow by some engineers.

Customer Reviews:
filled with mistakes, poorly edited.......2007-06-08
This book has some good points. Most notably, it contains a lot of detailed data and information related to the design and mass production of motors. The problem is knowing which information to trust. As a case in point, I counted 28 formula errors within the first chapter alone. In my view, errors of this type and number are unacceptable -- they undermine whatever value the book might otherwise have. Regrettably, other serious flaws exist. For example, the editors chose (incredibly) to repeat entire sections of the book: literally word-for-word. Apparently, they were either asleep, or else they thought a bigger handbook would sell better.
The truly sad thing is that the book does have potential, and it is evident that a lot of work must have gone into it on the part of its many participants. Perhaps with some capable and conscientious editing work, a second edition will be more worthwhile. In the mean time, there are other resources that are much more deserving of one's valuable time and money.
Don't buy as an Ebook.......2004-06-04
I ordered a copy of the Ebook through our purchasing department. I figured that an ebook would be good because we can get it right away.
The problem is this:
The guy in purchasing bought the ebook and downloaded it for me.
Because of the DRM copy protection, the book can only be read on the computer in purchasing. It will NOT open on any other computer. It will not print. I can't view the book from my computer so it is useless to me. You don't find this out until after you have purchased the book!
Copy protection only inconviences legitimate users. People who want to illegally break the copy protection won't be bothered at all.
For $85 for and eBook, they could have less restrictive licensing. If they want to make it this restrictive, sell it for $10.
DON'T waste your money on the eBook version

Excellent reference work and study guide for magnetism.......2003-08-11
This is an immensely important compilation of the state-of-
the-art quantum electronic interpretation of the physics of magnetism. Doctor O'Handley has masterfully organized his lecture notes and has produced a magnum opus.
I had the extraordinary good fortune of attending his lecture series at the University of Florida in 1994. The class was primarily for materials engineering graduate students, but I was allowed to take the class because I was doing research in magnetic devices for electrical engineering. Even though the physics involved was at a higher level than I was used to, Dr. O'Handley was able to communicate the necessary concepts in a lucid manner.
His intelligible explanations in the lecture hall are repeated and expanded in this well-crafted volume.
If you are interested in the science of magnetism from an electrical engineering, or material science, perspective, I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing this book.
Modern Magnetic Materials: Principles and Applications.......2001-12-01
This book will take you from basic academic knowledge about magnetism to a proficient understanding of the most recent advances in magnetic materials and devices. This book is well very organized and written in a concise manner. Dr. O'Handley has earned our congratulations on both scope and quality for this book. Graduate students, researchers, engineers, theorists, experimenters and other newcomers to the field will find this book an excellent entry to the field as well as a handy reference. The book is one of the best text in the area of applied magnetism.
This invaluable book should certainly be present in the library of any department or institute carrying out magnetism R&D work. In other words, it deserves to be on the shelves of any lab or research institute library. I strongly recommend this book to every student and teacher who intends studying or teaching magnetism.
Modern Magnetic Materials.......2000-04-04
This is the book which contains all about the magnetism practically in use. From the basic theory of magnetism to the practical use, e.g., magnetic recording materials, surface and thin films. This is the best book treating magnetism practically. But this deos not contain the rigorous thoery using second quantization, e.g., Hubbard Hamiltonian and Anderson Impurity. That is, this book is the introduction for graduate students majoring in experimental condensed matter physicis - materials and materials science for practical use.

Book Description
Permanent Magnet Design and Application Handbook, 2nd edition, is still the only comprehensive book covering the design and applications of permanent magnets. Since the last edition, major changes have occurred in materials and suppliers. This edition lists properties of over 400 new materials. Written for the practicing engineer, not the physicist, its purpose is to pull together the diverse magnet information needed to design products rather than to present theory. Numerous tables, photos, and diagrams are used throughout. Also included are an international index of permanent magnet materials, a bibliography, and a glossary. Appendixes give demagnetization curves, magnetic properties, physical properties, and conversion factors.
Customer Reviews:
A solid foundation for understanding permanent magnets.......2000-04-07
The 1995 reprint of Permanent Magnet Design and Application Handbook, contains most of the previous text but now includes a 500+ page reference on many of the permanent magnet materials available thru the early 1990's. This book has been a standard to most permanent magnet designers. While the content is aged, it still covers the basics to understanding how to practically design magnets. The book focuses on design with Alnico and Ceramic magnets. These were the standards of the 1950's,1960's and 1970's. It just touches on the more modern materials such as SmCo. At the time the book was written, these materials were just under development and thus design rules were still being written.
This is still one of the best illustrated books in magnetism. Most are hand drawn pictures with some photographs intermingled. All of the concepts shown are applicable to current design.
The new reference pages provide a text based database of many current magnet materials. Some names have changed, but the content is still current. The cross-references alone are valuable to designers and purchasing personnel. Those updating designs with newer materials will find this book invaluable.
While the lack of graphical information does reduce the value, I still recommend this as a reference book for all designers interested in magnets. A designer that can absorb the information in this book is well on the way to being a Magnetics expert. Expert or not, the book is well written and well worth the time to read and learn from an expert in the field.

Book Description
The recent emergence and proliferation of proximal probes, e.g. SPM and AFM, and computational techniques for simulating tip-surface interactions has enabled the systematic investigation of interfacial problems on ever smaller scales, as well as created means for modifying and manipulating nanostructures. In short, they have led to the appearance of the new, interdisciplinary fields of micro/nanotribology and micro/nanomechanics.
This volume serves as a timely, practical introduction to the principles of nanotribology and nanomechanics and applications to magnetic storage systems and MEMS/NEMS. Assuming some familiarity with macrotribilogy/mechanics, the book comprises chapters by internationally recognized experts, who integrate knowledge of the field from the mechanics and materials-science perspectives. They cover key measurement techniques, their applications, and theoretical modelling of interfaces, each beginning their contributions with macro- and progressing to microconcepts. After reviewing the fundamental experimental and theoretical aspects in the first part,
Nanotribology and Nanomechanics then treats applications.
Three groups of readers are likely to find this text valuable: graduate students, research workers, and practicing engineers. It can serve as he basis for a comprehensive, one- or two-semester course in scanning probe microscopy; applied scanning probe techniques; or nanotribology/nanomechanics/nanotechnology, in departments such as mechanical engineering, materials science, and applied physics.

Introduction to the Theory of Thermal Neutron Scattering
ASIN: 0444510508 |
Book Description
Neutron Scattering from Magnetic Materials is a comprehensive account of the present state of the art in the use of the neutron scattering for the study of magnetic materials. The chapters have been written by well-known researchers who are at the forefront of this field and have contributed directly to the development of the techniques described. Neutron scattering probes magnetic phenomena directly. The generalized magnetic susceptibility, which can be expressed as a function of wave vector and energy, contains all the information there is to know about the statics and dynamics of a magnetic system and this quantity is directly related to the neutron scattering cross section. Polarized neutron scattering techniques raise the sophistication of measurements to even greater levels and gives additional information in many cases. The present book is largely devoted to the application of polarized neutron scattering to the study of magnetic materials. It will be of particular interest to graduate students and researchers who plan to investigate magnetic materials using neutron scattering.
· Written by a group of scientist who have contributed directly in developing the techniques described.
· A complete treatment of the polarized neutron scattering not available in literature.
· Gives practical hits to solve magnetic structure and determine exchange interactions in magnetic solids.
· Application of neutron scattering to the study of the novel electronic materials.

Product Description
The present text book gives an comprehensive account of magnetism, spanning the historical development, the physical foundations and the continuing research underlying the field, one of the oldest yet still vibrant field of physics. It covers both the classical and quantum mechanical aspects of magnetism and novel experimental techniques. Perhaps uniquely, it also discusses spin transport and magnetization dynamics phenomena associated with atomically and spin engineered nano-structures against the backdrop of spintronics and magnetic storage and memory applications. The book is written for students on the late undergraduate and the graduate levels and should also serve as a state-of-the-art reference for scientists in academia and research laboratories.
Customer Reviews:
Excellant Magnetism and Sychrotron Characterization Reference.......2007-05-16
This book is has a wonderful overview of both the basic concepts of magnetism, as well as the cutting-edge developments of the past decade. It also has an excellent explanation of the novel synchrotron x-ray techniques used to characterize magnetism in practice today (XMD&PEEM). Exceptionally well written from two scientists who are excellent public speakers and know how to captivate an audience. Highly recommended!
